  1. Brendan Clancy 9.940/133.27
  2. Steve Dunn 10.209/145.70
  3. Tim Adam 10.232/143.79
  4. Frank Mason 10.440/129.86
  5. Tethys 10.656/127.33

Conrad Stanley had a wild ride in Trevor Graves' Honda, the car suddenly disappeared in a cloud of smoke at about 400 feet and then appeared out of the cloud sideways and spinning towards the guardrail, a telltale trail of fluid on the track. Conrad got it stopped without hitting anything. Conrad tells us that he thinks a core plug popped and then "We went for a bit of a slide". He got the car stopped and then realised he was rolling gently backwards, and got on the brake to save the wing. He said that the worst part was thinking that the car was going to go over "Because it's not my car!".

The track temperature at the break was 19.0 C.

Because a second qualifying cycle won't be finished by the 18:00 curfew, the Race Director has decided that qualifying will finish at the end of cycle one. We have Junior Dragster and Junior Drag Bike still to come.

Top Fuel Bike qualifying after session 1:

  1. Steve Woollatt 6.608/216.11
  2. Steve Carey 24.531/26.75

Steve Woollatt left a black stripe right down the middle of the Gold RV lane on his pass, with shake marks up to about three hundred feet, and then the tyre mark is bold/light/bold/light for a couple of hundred feet where I am guessing the front end bounced up and down. So there is more to come from the Dealer. Steve Carey's rear slick went up in smoke at the hit and he got off the throttle as he passed the Tree.

15:37

Good morning and welcome from Shakespeare County Raceway for the first day of the 2006 UK National Championships. We're here to bring you all the news in association with American Car Imports.

The Webster Race Engineering/MPM Oil webcam is already on line and broadcasting a picture every two minutes.

It's a nice spring day out there right now, as you can see from the webcam it's sunny and springlike. The track got plenty of washes yesterday and overnight and the track crew are just applying the finishing touches with the jet drier. Yours Truly left his weather station at home this weekend, apologies for that, but we have a new toy to try out this weekend in the form of a temperature gun so we will be bringing you the track temperature through the day.

We have a couple of special days today, firstly a very Happy Birthday to Wild Bunch racer Darryl Howells. Wife Sarah tells us that when she first met Darryl, she thought he was joking when he said that his birthday was 1st April. Have a great day Darryl. We'd also like to wish a very Happy Anniversary to Paula and Ian Marshall, who are here this weekend racing the Highlander Super Mod Camaro. Have a great day guys.

A big Hello to Libby Mottershead who has already been in touch to say that she is tuned in to the webcam. Hope you're enjoying the coverage Libby, and hi to Nev.

The first three classes have been called to the pairing lanes for their first qualifying sessions so stay tuned and we'll bring you all the news as soon as things get going.
