"He has a huge shiner, but only one", says Jon. "Steve asked us to thank Andy Robinson for building such a safe race car, the rescue services for their rapid rescue, and our fellow racers for their support". Steve is being kept in overnight for observation as a precaution.

15:55

Top Methanol final

Lindsay Deuchar 6.389/196.82 def. Trev Capewell 15.558/51.74

The front of Trev's FC is sporting gaffa tape after hitting some rough stuff in the shutdown area earlier. Lindsay got away first at the hit, another straight and hard pass, shut off and chutes out before the finish line. Sharkman at the top end found piece of blower belt in Lindsay's lane.

Meanwhile Trev hit vicious shake off the line, something came off the car and fuel started to appear from underneath the car, Trev shut off, but then the FC gently tagged the guardrail at the finish line. The car idled down the shutdown area and trundled slowly into the field on the right until it eventually came to a stop in the long grass. The safety crews chased Trev through the grass, he is being checked out but the word is that he had his bell rung by the shake but is OK.

Jerry Charles and Steve Large didn't make the Cruise last night so were not in competition today. Ian Hook had the passenger side door come open and a couple of pieces fly off the FB Racing '34 Ford in his race against Colin Lazenby, whilst Colin's Chevy 210 left a belt on the track.

13:50

The two Jet FCs followed Fuel Funny Car, Roger Goring went first in Firestorm. A very strong flame and smoke show and a couple of throttle slams, then a planned thousand-foot pass (due to the crosswind) of 6.544/194.65. Martin Hill was next up in Fireforce 2, the usual prolonged and percussive flame and thunder show, a slightly softer-sounding afterburner than yesterday. Martin also on planned thousand-foot pass, 6.033/239.31

Wendy Baker followed on in her as-yet unnamed Fuel Altered; with the red, blue and gold paintwork on the body she runs a risk of being referred to as Wonderwoman unless she and Paul Stubbings think of a name pretty quickly! Wendy put in a very strong burnout and then as she reversed the car shot back and the front wheels 'fell over' in a similar fashion to Bob Glassup's altered on Saturday, the car headed backwards for the other lane and Wendy shut off. As soon as the engine cools Wendy will be back.

13:30

Top Fuel Bike final (eighth mile)

Steve Woollatt 5.368/106.64 bye, Steve Carey broke

Steve Woollatt needed to go 216.32 or faster to back up the 218.50 for an ACU speed record, but it was not to be as the bikes are running over the eighth due to a crosswind. Steve's bike again left the line relatively gently and the tyre started to turn so he feathered the throttle and then bakced off just before the eighth.

Steve Woollatt took a bye for the win after Steve Carey parted company with his bike after his burnout. The bike went down at very low speed; apart from a cut finger Steve is fine and the bike looks A-OK.

Top Methanol eliminations round 1

Trev Capewell 6.261/218.39 def. Doug Bond 6.843/153.58

Trev Capewell ran career-best numbers to take his first-ever round win, congratulations Trev! Doug Bond got away first but Trev was past him by half-track; no shake, a very hard and mot importantly straight run with a tiny puff of vapour at the finish line. Doug got off the throttle at about a thousand feet.

Lindsay Deuchar 6.131/220.43 def. Doug Ripley 7.472/141.23

Lindsay got a visible jump on Doug, 0.040 to 0.177, launching as if shot from a gun, a small amount of shake but Lindsay had it covered keeping it straight and true all the way down. Doug's TMFC was drifting to the right all the way down his lane and he backed off early.

Fuel Funny Car eliminations round 1

John Spuffard 10.996/73.74, Gordon Smith no time recorded

Two bye runs at once, Gordon Smith's tyres didn't light in the burnout, meanwhile Spuff put in a strong burnout, pedalling a couple of times with a lot of vapour from the left bank of cylinders. On the green the Shockwave FC again popped the blower, the relief panel flew into the air and the body lifted briefly. Meanwhile John Spuffard clocked a 0.897 sixty foot time in Showtime, then hit shake almost immediately after the sixty-foot reflector and got off the throttle.

Super Gas racer Steve Dunn has been taken to hospital for a checkout after the Tokyo Toy Toyota crashed at the top end. The car made a hard turn at the finish line and then barrel-rolled into the field on the right-hand side of the track. The safety crews got to the car very quickly indeed, great job guys. Good morning and welcome again from Shakespeare County Raceway on a glorious summer's morning, what a difference from our last update yesterday. It's eliminations day at the Allstar Nationals and we are as ever here to bring you the news in association with American Car Imports.

The Webster Race Engineering/MPM Oil webcam is on-line and broadcasting a picture every two minutes.

A couple of Good Mornings before we get going, the traditional raceday greeting to our US correspondents Ed O'Connell and Kathy Hileman in Rye, NH. Hello also to our good friends Gittli Koller, Regula Stucki and Gerda Dijkstra who are tuned in from Germany, Switzerland and Holland respectively...hope you're not having too bad a day in the office whilst we're at the track enjoying the racing and the sunshine. A big Hello also to all of our Volkszone friends.

The plan for today's coverage is as ever to bring you the winners of each round of eliminations, full results in Fuel FC, Top Methanol and Top Fuel Bike plus the demo vehicles. Eliminations are scheduled to start at 11:00 so keep an eye on the webcam and we'll be back soon after with the first results.
