Nostalgia Fuel Altered Association session 1 (left lane first):

Jim Usher 10.461/95.84, John Wright 9.070/126.82; Bob Glassup 10.564/81.80, Frank Bennett 6.793/168.02; Joe Bond 7.096/191.95 bye; Dave Grabham 8.416/168.89 bye; Clayton Round 8.021/169.08 bye; Jon Best 6.711/209.32 bye;

Pedalfest between Jim and John, John looked to have a cylinder out on launch and very close to the centre line. Straight undramatic run for Frank, shut off a touch early. Bob blackstriped and out of shape at half track, the Xtreme altered made hard moves left and right and almost hit the guardrail, Bob got off the throttle and pulled it straight, great driving job.

After Bob's run the decision was made to run right lane only for the rest of the day. It was either that or stop running completely whilst the lane was attended to again, and almost all of qualifying cycle 4 yet to run and a curfew of 6:00 pm looming Race Director Glenn Stockton and his team were left between a rock and a hard place. Glenn told us that the problem is that there is both anti-freeze and oil on the lane which keeps coming back to the surface. Not only is there the issue of cleaning the lane but the fact that it will be dark by about 8:30 pm.

Nicely controlled run for Joe, a few gentle moves left and right but Joe had it covered. Dave's altered headed for the centre line and from here it looked as if the front left wheel touched it, a long pedal and then straight again, back on the throttle and some moves in the second half of the track but Dave held on to it. Nice straight run for Clayton, the motor sounded a touch lazy though. Great run for Jon after looking to have trouble getting the altered out of reverse. Lots of clutch dust at the start, straight as you like, but then a flash of flame from the right side of the motor at about 1000 feet. New PB for Jon by a long way, well done Jon! As I type the top end safety crews have chased down Jon's altered, they reacted very quickly indeed after the flash and were already rolling as Jon passed them, well done guys.

Word is that we have oil in the shutdown area, stay tuned.

15:15

Pro ET qualifying top five after session 4:

  1. Billy Gane +0.003 9.923/137.24
  2. Dave Cherrett +0.007 10.007/121.15
  3. Steve Hudson +0.012 9.912/132.24
  4. Brian Huxley +0.016 10.526/125.02
  5. Phil Toppin +0.018 9.018/149.37

Brian Huxley's Sierra hit the left guardrail towards the end of the session. A trail of fluid from the Tree told the tale of this one, Brian had his hands full as the Sierra headed for the other lane but he held on to it and got it stopped at the eighth. Brian is quite OK. Lee Huxley told us that a rod broke and that the sump was split open. Not a lot Brian could have done about that.

Trackside conditions are 22.3 C, 47% humidity and 30.03 inches of air, track temperature 32.4 C.

Good morning and welcome from Shakespeare County Raceway for our coverage of the Open Sport Nationals brought to you in association with American Car Imports.

The Webster Race Engineering/Lex Joon Racing US Tour 2009 webcam is on-line and is scheduled to post a picture every sixty seconds until the track closes on Sunday.

It's another very pleasant morning here at SCR, sun with a little cloud and warming up nicely. We will bring you the trackside conditions shortly.

A big Hello to Stephen Moon who is tuned in from Arizona. You should not laugh whilst you are drinking Stephen, as you may end up needing an aegrotat.

Qualifying is due to recommence at 10:00 so stay tuned and as soon as things start moving we'll bring you the numbers.
