Roger Moore suffered a big engine explosion in the burnout with the supercharger parting company with the machine, aluminium fragments spread all around the burnout box, and oil gushing out of the crankcase. Roger is fine, no medical attention needed, but there will be more downtime for cleanup.
After cleanup, the race between Roger and Maarten Ziljstra, who had withdrawn from competition, did not take place. Lorcan Parnell staged and will get a bye into the final. Dave Peters over Louis Davies who had a misfiring engine going down the track.

Good morning and welcome to our coverage of the 2022 STP National Finals at Santa Pod Raceway. The weather is fairly clear with high clouds and temperature of 7C forecast to rise to 16C and wind from the west at 13mph. Density altitude is expected to be between sea level rising to 500ft over the day, with 40-45 grains of water, excellent late season conditions.
We had an early finish to racing yesterday following heavy rain around 4pm, meaning that most classes were only able to complete two sessions of qualifying. The remaining two pairs of Outlaw Flat Four, Sportsman ET, ET Bike and VW Sportsman will complete their second session at 09:15 and then we will be into eliminations for the rest of the day, the eliminations running order being shown in the event index.
We'll update you on Championship statuses as we go, but for the moment congratulations to Dan Williams (Comp Eliminator), Andy Dibley (Super Gas), Andy Bond (Street Eliminator), Graham Fairhead (VW Pro), Richard Sawatzki (9.50 Bike), Louis Davis (ACU Funny Bike), Chris Neary (Comp Bike) and Hollie King (ACU Junior Drag Bike) who, subject to ratification, are provisional 2022 class champions.
Chief timekeeper David Anniwell has told us that due to a technical problem, the bottom scoreboards will not be functioning today, so teams and racers will see their dial-in or index on the top scoreboard first, then the ET, and following that the terminal speed.
After the early conclusion, teams and fans had the opportunity to come to Fuelers Bar at 20:00 for the SPRC Auction in aid of Hayley Hadfield's charities, Pancreatic Cancer UK and the Christie Hospital. There was a great turnout, added by streaming of the event and Colin Theobald did a great job of auctioneering including live and online bids. The final amount raised is estimated to be at least £20,000. A great idea by Super Pro ET racer Andy Thetford, wonderful contributions by Santa Pod and the racing community of auction lots, and generous participation by those present made it a highly successful event and congratulations to all those involved.
