Dave Smith with the repaired and immaculate looking XKR, lifted at 300ft to go 9.72. Next Robin Orthodoxou, a lot of tyre shake off the line to 8.34, the track cooler today than at the Festival of Power qualifying will be posted once a couple of the indexes have been amended.

Once restarted, Steve went right on the launch and went #2 but off the pace. Leah Kellett was trying for a seven in testing yesterday and got down to the 8.0s, with the throttle stop today she took the #1 spot.

Ed Keech next after a lot of work on his Tango Golf, to #4, then Chris Poyner (Green Goblin Beetle) and Jacob Bailey who went off into the distance with a 148mph terminal speed. First pair Alan Didwell's dragster and Collin Morrice's Camaro, Alan into #1. Then AC Bell (Gen 3 Firebird) and Dave Russell in his blown Marina van, both broke out, the air density is -582ft here. Followed by Phil Toppin's Corvette roadster and sponsor Pete Walters' dragster, Phil into #2 as Pete breaks out.
Next Ron Bartlett with his wheelie bars installed at the Festival of Power, alongside Lee Darby. Ron spun the wheels as Lee went down the track to go 3rd. Short break for track check in right lane.

Sorry not to see Simon Gough on track, he found a problem in his Racepak readings after a run yesterday and diagnosed a 'stretched valve', so he will be sitting out the event. Rick Denny also not running this weekend, and possibly out for the rest of the year after some expensive sounds from his engine on the drive to the track, best wishes Rick and hope to see you at the track next year if not sooner.
Breakout for Bob Molden. Dan Holloway first into #1 with his Rattler altered. Ronnie Mercer took the position over in the next pair. Breakout for Mason Griffiths followed by a pair of Junior Comp cars with Tom Kaye and Will Clark, Will into #2. Next pair Amy Watkins and Nick Mugridge who posted he had solved his engine problems, goes into #4 with a nice run. Next Dave Cherrett and Marc Huxley with a strong run but broke out.

Good morning and welcome to our coverage of the STP Springspeed Nationals. It's another great day at Santa Pod Raceway with a few wispy clouds, temperature of 6C forecast to rise to 14C and wind of 9mph.
Today there will be a large field of 250 vehicles taking part in three qualifying sessions. You can see the running order in the event index which as ever can vary with track or weather conditions. We will let you know any amendments to the order as soon as we hear.

Congratulations to two racers who completed licensing procedures and will be eligible to qualify and race this weekend, Alex Gordon running a 8.8149 in 8.50 Bike and Jazmine Tunstall a naughty-but-nice 8.9115/134.53 in the Brogie roadster she shares with her dad Richard.
A couple of notes from teams who have had problems even so far. A Super Pro ET car which is missing is the Team Time is Money Cortina which suffered engine damage following the failure of a Jesel cam drive on a test pass last weekend. Driver Tom Atkinson said "Steve Schmidt Competition Engines have been great with us so far and are looking after us, the heads are on their way back to the States (thanks Topspeed) while a fresh pair are being assembled. A year's warranty on a 1100hp race motor is most welcome right now! We’ll be back out in the Cortina as soon as we can be; we decided against putting the old 540ci motor back in, a lot of work just for a meeting or two. In the meantime we're gonna have some fun dialling the Nova back to 12.0’s in Sportsman ET.
Kev Jenkins and the Comp Eliminator Fraudster C20LET Mk1 Escort team noticed on a leakdown test, after the exhaust cam pulley had lost one of its bolts and come loose at the Festival of Power, that one cylinder was down very slightly, after the race weekend was over Kev had the head off and found that it had just picked up on a valve seat. The team thanks Steve at Vulcan Engineering who was able to repair it immediately so we could get it back up & ready for this weekend. The team hope to run close to their FoP best of 7.63/176.
