Tyre shake for Wayne, Jon had problems getting on boost then launched after a few seconds and ran to the end when there was an explosion from the engine, Jon stopping the car fine. 1.0560 to 60ft, 4.0787/185.88 to half track. New PB ET for Jon who expressed his disappointment after noticing rising temperatures on the startline. Wayne had 1.0587, 4.2677/179.21 driving through shake.
Marcus Hilt 9.7547/76.42 v Jean Dulamon 12.4684/67.07. Jean's engine had burned two pistons and the team decided to change engines overnight. Both cars launched hard but tyre shake set in and both off the throttle by 330ft. 1.0585 to 60ft for Marcus and 1.0360 for Jean.

Hans-Henrik Thomsen (Silver Lightning) 22.4699/27.21 Up in smoke by the Christmas tree, on 100% power, a new slick fitted for today.

Nitro Funny Car qualifying session 4
Jason Phelps 11.4921/77.74 v Kevin Kent 6.4282/95.85. Jason burning out first, John 'Bodie' Smith overseeing Kevin's operation. Kevin's chute out before 300ft and he pulled it down, Jason's car stood up on the tyres fourth time in a row. Incrementals for Kevin 0.9786 to 60ft and 4.2244/121.97.
Kevin Chapman NTR v Steve Ashdown shut off. Steve Ashdown couldn't get into reverse and was pushed back and then shut off. Drama for Kevin as the car went to the right, he corrected but the car went hard left and into the wall before the eighth, the fuel tank exploding and the impact separating the body from the chassis which went across the track upside down and came to a rest in the right lane. Video showed the relief panel in the front had come off and possibly caused the butterlies to get stuck open, causing the large explosion. Kevin got out of the car, is perfectly alright and was released after going to the medical centre for a checkup.
As a result of the incident, the programme will be amended and likely to overrun the scheduled finish time.

David Vegter 11.4180/73.84 (bye) The car went up on the two step and crept across the line to get a 1.1920 RT, given a second chance and then double stepped on the second attempt, car went to the left slightly and he was off the throttle. 1.2277 to 60ft for David, the team left scratching their heads.
Jan Ericsson 5.7719/249.49 v Andres Arnover 6.0304/246.49. Both of these quick cars down at the bottom of the order before this session. Straight down the track. Great run for Jan, PB on ET and new SPR track record, 0.9412 and 3.7939/197.03 for Jan, well done Jan and team! Incrementals 1.0410 and 4.0395/194.30 for Andres, but Andres' chutes failed to deploy and despite a lot of smoke in the shutdown area, Andres went into the field. Pause for recovery and cleanup.

Great pass for Dan Williams to go -0.7836 under index. Spencer Tramm lifted after 300ft as Simon Crowley improved to 10.3718/141.68 with a plume of smoke. Then Kev Jenkins, pleased with a near PB yesterday improved to new PB 7.3990/183.59, well done Kev and team! Robin Orthodoxou alongside him slowed to a 9.58/94.63. Near identical 7.63s for Kev Perkins and David Smith. Dave Swift with nitrous to 7.5332/182 improvement. Matt Peters' engine zinged on the launch, the relief panel blew and a bit of fluid on the track.

Steve Ashdown 6.3263/105.30 v Kevin Chapman 5.3769/147.19. First time this event for Kevin whose team were addressing a number of mechanical issues yesterday. Steve first to burn out, Kevin's revs remained high and there was fuel spilled on the track; he got pushed back and then found reverse. Both off the throttle before the eighth, incrementals 0.9693 to 60ft and 4.2560/123.63 for Steve, 1.0452 and 3.8653/164.56 for Kevin. Both cars running rich with plenty of yellow fumes from each, Kevin into #3 spot.
Kevin Kent NTR v Jason Phelps 10.096/89.94. Jason burned out first, both backed up without problems. Jason up in smoke on the start, Kevin left on idle and came to a halt at the eighth. 1.5970 to 60ft for Jason, 2.7073 for Kevin, neither representative.

Christophe Burfeindt first out, breaks out with a -0.03. Great 8.1671 on 8.16 for Ron Bartlett but stayed in #10. Good to see Rob Brown back after problems on Thursday. 8.80 on 8.69 and remained in #16. Steve Johnson blazed the tyres without getting on the wheelie bar showing his engine is producing a lot of power. Nitrous purge for Lee Darby but same 8.99 dial in, broke out to 8.7099/156.82 so remained in #18. Kie Astley (driving the old Wild Child car previously run by the much missed Andy Williams) ran a 9.1292 without turbo.
Jack Brewster, on a 7.20 dial, went right before losing traction as Billy Gane moved up from #6 to #4. Andy 'Fadster' Hadfield failed to find reverse and drove down the track as Callum Swinchatt waited to run, Callum went 8.7711/144.79, great pass for him near PB territory. Mark Turner dialled 8.37, moved up one spot to #18. Mark Flavell ran 7.1297/179.22 on a 7.00 as Barry Giles had an excellent 0.015 package including a 0.0022 RT. Scott Hauser pushed back after the burnout, then went into shake after the launch and idled down track, remained in #2.
Followed by Steve Warner in the two seater with passenger 7.8208/171.72.

Good morning and welcome to day 3 of our coverage of the FIA/FIM-E Main Event from Santa Pod Raceway. It's another sunny morning here with hardly a cloud in the sky and temperatures of 12C forecast to rise to 16C. The wind which caused a few problems yesterday has dropped to 11mph but is now coming from the north. Density altitude, currently sea level will barely reach 500ft, so the best atmospheric conditions of the event so far.
Yesterday was the first round of FIA and FIM-E qualifying seen since 2019 and it's fair to say that a combination of lack of track time and the crosswind caused headaches for some of the racers. Nevertheless we had excitement in most of the categories but fortunately few incidents. Super Twin Top Fuel rider Marcus Christiansen from Denmark suffered a horrendous explosion that winded him but was seen back in his pit by evening, and we shall hear what the team's plans are later. There was mechanical damage to several teams and we hope they have sufficient spare parts to rebuild in time for today's qualifying sessions which are at 11:00 and 14:30. Sportsman qualifying continues at 09:30 with the held over session 8 from yesterday. We also wish Comp Eliminator racer Luke Stevenson the best, he suffered a dislocated shoulder yesterday in getting strapped into his dragster, he is sadly out of the race and we hope to see him with his dragster back soon.
