A couple of minutes later, Katie Booth 9.3521/144.79 vs Douglas McClure 10.7759/121.93, tyre rubbing at the launch for Doug.

Jacob Kopasz (Golf) 14.1475 vs Nina Coombes (Lexus) 13.769, 9.4600/127.73 but invalid times for Jose Leite with a 0.0195 60ft as the exhaust fumes fouled the startline reflectors. In the bright sunlight the Dodge Challenger is an intruiging dark metallic gold, we don't think it's Hellcat but 11.6458/121.42 is respectable for a road car. Danny Jones back for a test run in the Bantam altered after cutting out on his previous run, 9.932/134.17 a great recovery and new PB, well done Danny and team on your first nine!

The slingshots of Doug Bond and Roy Wilding up next, Doug lifting the revs during the burnout, sounds as if he means business. Both cars with blown alky aluminium Hemis. Roy first 8.1664/169.80 to 8.707/141.59 for Doug, Darryl noticing the shift light with Doug coming on quickly as if the clutch was loose causing the engine to zing.

Fireforce 5 driven by Martin Hill, running a test pass to 1000ft yesterday, great flame and thunder show, then 5.3188/220.87, 0.9594 to 60ft and 3.5526/230.06 to the eighth, clicked early. Fantastic pass, as if Martin had been running it regularly, in actual fact his first runs since last October.

Run What Ya Brung session 5
Quite a few street cars, for which we don't have enough details to report. Dave Crowhurst in the rebuilt Wanger Beetle with a 10.1145/132.93, improving each run. Jose Leite had a practice 9.8210/132.59, following his defeat to Jacob Bailey in round 1 of VW Heads Up. Russ's Dutton returned for a 9.0429/149.14. The new green 100e ran 11.818/95.66, a lot of potential there. Dave Cherrett's Dark Revenger returned for a practice run, a move to the right and 10.278/129.90.
Dean Maudsley's '37 Chevy ran 14.7100/95.27, Dean needing to run a 13 to get into the Gasser Circus, getting closer now.

The Wild Bunch run a closest-to-dial competition, the dial being set for the whole competition after yesterday's qualifying. Wild Launch for Callum Swinchatt who was ultra consistent in the 8.8s range yesterday. Brian Watson pushed back with an engine problem. Results so far:

Pedal for Jon Webster. Eurodragster.com sponsor Jedd Guy with a huge pitrous purge, move to the left and pedalled, track temperature not optimal yet. Mark Bracking pushed back with a leak after his burnout as Gary Bird, who had a smoky run yesterday did not show. 0.0029 or 7 inches between Luke Hoskins and Rob Nixon. No show for Adam Cuthbert against Garry Hill. Ted Booth with the nitrous on went well ahead of Spencer Tidswell who slowed. Colin Millar headed left after 60ft feeding the power in and corrected. Mark Bracking soloed at the end of the round.

Lots of mechanial carnage means a few gaps. James Hodson's Golf had a lifted head, Nigel Hull with the Pro Mod style Beetle suffered a broken gearbox. Simon Crowley suffered the same in his Mk1 Golf. Dave Lea also had gearbox issues, changed one with the help of Nigel Hale's engine crane but had problems with the replacement. Carl Goldsmith had engine bottom end issues. Great win for Tom Herbert.

Good morning, and welcome to day 3 of our coverage of VW Breakout from Santa Pod Raceway, eliminations day.
We finally had summer weather yesterday and that looks set to continue today. It's currently cloudy but we expect that to burn off and the temperature to rise from a slightly chilly 8C to 19C in the afternoon, with wind no more than 10mph. With 1030 hPa barometric pressure the air is looking nice and dense for horsepower and a density altitude of around -500ft when racing is due to start. We predict breakouts...
Eliminations will commence at 0930 comprising round one for Nostalgia Super Stock, VWDRC Heads Up, Gasser Circus, Supercharged Outlaws' fifth session, and Outlaw Anglia. Run What Ya Brung including Wild Bunch and exhibitions by Fireforce Jet team and Andy Raw in the Nitro Bug will follow. Our report will show where we are in the running order.
The Outlaw Anglias made their best efforts to run a six yesterday with the three main protaganists Colin Millar, Jon Webster and Jedd Guy in the thick of things. We expect more today with the great conditions. Also in Outlaw Anglia, well done to Ben Kennedy who ran a string of PBs culminating in his first ten, for which he received the Outlaw Anglia decal. SPR announcer Colin Theobald set a new PB of 10.88/124.09 but we suspect that most of you know this already thanks to the celebration photo from Diana.
