As the rain worsened and developed into a downpour with another weather system behind it, we have been called. The plan for tomorrow is to run the classes that haven't yet qualified (Sportsman ET and Super Twin Top Gas) and then have a second qualifying session before running eliminations. Leeks Landscapes Funny Bike qualifying session 1
Lorcan Parnell v Stuart Crane, Stuart to 6.6672/205.17, fantastic pass to smash his PB by 3/10s showing the potential of his engine setup. 1.09 to 60ft, 4.3028/167.76 to half track. Lorcan rolled out of the beams, didn't get a time but had lifted after 330ft in any case. Steve Moxley reported that Jiri Lukes has a new MTC multi-stage clutch and engine work by JKE Race Works, however Jiri stopped on track and was towed through the first exit. Mark Smith's bike now in purple against Dave Peters, Dave leaning the bike over. Tony Clark riding Phil Crossley's machine was stopped for a track inspection at the top end and on the restart controlled the bike well to 8.2105/166.07 despite a wheelie and going close to the wall. Blood Cancer UK ET Bike qualifying session 1
Gary Hester into #1 with a 8.9901 on 8.98, close to the Perfect ET award sponsored by Andy 'Fadster' Hadfield and the Twister Team. Phil Pratt then ran 9.04 on a 9.02 dial in to go #2. ET Bike debuts for Blade King and Liam Holgate, both Junior Drag Bike graduates, Liam's bike bogging off the line and taking a while to get back on song. Jayne Kay suffered a recurrence of the engine cutting out, launched and then the bike suffered gearbox issues, nevertheless getting a time on the board. The last bike to run, also licensing, is former Pro Mod racer Roger Moore, nice burnout with former owner Bob Brooks as well as Lucy and Dave getting Roger up to the line. Fantastic run to 7.6816/136.02, well done Roger and the team, 1.1525 and 4.6965/151.04 incrementals for Roger.

MSUK Pro Modified qualifying session 1
Nick Davies out first with Rob Loaring on hand, the car now sporting a Rossler TH400 based automatic gearbox replacing the manual Lenco from last year. Nick bumped through stage twice and was allowed to restage by Ian Marshall. A cautious pass from near-idle revs going towards the center line and much more to come we are sure.
John Tebenham next, a much straighter burnout than the Pop and crew wearing 'Like Frank said...No Way!' shirts. A low-revs launch to 1.15 60ft and 7.001/177.14 was great for an initial pass.
Jon Webster in Fast Company, hard launch to 1.02 60ft, then left towards the wall and corrected and lifted to 8.4714/159.59.
Kev Slyfield in the Thunderbird next. Kev had run in Comp Eliminator last year as well as demo passes, and launched hard 0.9609 to 60ft, then got sideways at 330ft, lifting to go 8.065/111.24.

First up Neil Midgley, 7.201/160.79 with a lot of new parts, 1.1909 to 60ft and 4.5383/164 to the eighth. Then Allan Davies who had been at the RWYB last Sunday, in the left lane, a misfire from the engine possibly fuel starvation, so Allan lifted and coasted through. Next Al Smith on the PBR Rocket three cylinder, Andy Kirk taking the bike to the line. Half track pass to 7.1657/134.51 with 1.0500 60ft and 4.2148/171.11. Steve Woollatt yet to make a pass.

Lucas Oil Junior Dragster qualifying session 1
Caitlin Wilson and Kim Willcox out first, both red lights, then Luke Fulton similarly too quick. Next Harley Coulsell in the repainted Bandit 1 against Thomas Cook-Abbott, with Thomas's 0.0432 RT taking him to #1, we think his last year in the class. Chevrolet Checkett and Purdie Hadfield next, Chevrolet into #2 with 0.1307. Frankie Taylor went to #2 after that. Newcomer Daniel Todd, Mark's son making his first competitive run into #5. Then more newcomers Jack Taylor and Jake Cooper, Jack going 10.1782 in ET quick for JS, but later reclassified correctly to JM. Newcomer Jessica Bishop against Fenny Racing's Kai Cooper, Kai going -0.0035, closest yet to the Perfect Light Award. Lola-Belle Kent went to #2 with a 0.0808 RT. Harry Redshaw went to #1 on a 0.0226 with newcomer George Oliver #3 with 0.0800. Next another newcomer Max Taylor in 'Chilled to the Max' against Katie Ellis in her JMA.

Peter Nee Super Pro ET qualifying session 1
Dave Russell first into #1 position against Tom Atkinson, then John Tebenham and Bob Doyle, conservative times in the conditions, many racers not having been out since September last year. Newcomer Kieran Astley breaking out by 0.2s in a dragster against a very smokey Ashley Bell with what looked like steam coming out of the engine compartment. Short pause whilst the tractor sledded it away. Long burnout, well controlled for Phil Toppin, good boy! Callum Swinchatt in the other lane got crossed up and lifted before the pendulum effect got serious. Laura Turburville with a -0.008 light having a tilt at the Perfect Light Award sponsored by Cath and Tig Napier. Following this, Andy Bond's Ugly Sister up against Brian Pateman, conservative 7.90 dial in for Andy who smoked and lifted on his first launch of the season. Nick Good showing off the new livery of the four link Lucas Oil car (as seen on our recent spy picture) against Billy Gane. Scott Hauser against Mick Howling in the repainted PMR dragster, Scott going to #2 with 7.5328 on a 7.46 dial. Great burnouts for Eurodragster.com sponsor Peter Walters and Ian Brown in the Thatadoo Camaro, Ian on a huge breakout with 8.1582/128.05 against a 8.99 dial! Mark Bailey had a wheels up launch going right and then correcting, lifting - and relax. Mark Turner next in the M&M Supra, a car with quite a history over 30 years and Mark doing a half pass with no issues.

Modurstang Pro ET qualifying session 1
We're up and running, first pair Ronnie Mercer and Chloe Wilkins. Ben Newsome then went no.1 with a+0.0451. Then Geoff Cowley pushed back, rookie Allan Schofield with his dragster having licensed at earlier RWYBs. John Bean's Mustang now dialled into the nines following the addition of speed parts, and 1.380 60ft time showing the potential. Brian Huxley's Mustang showing #1, the 2019 champions carrying this number, but a bit of a double step off the line. A new pair to the class followed, Marc Huxley's patina'd Corolla and the repainted Package of Simon Gough, Marc to #3 in his first competition run in the car. Brett Featherstone's Nova with a new paint scheme but he was off the throttle early after the engine did not sound perfect. Another newcomer to the class who had impressed us in RWYB last year was Alfie Wratten against Lee Huxley in the new-to-him Nova. Cath and Tig's Bad Habit Challenger with high wheelie bars, went up-and-left on the launch but corrected quickly. Tom Watkins driving the Dodge Ram pickup, Dad Neil giving him the ride after Tom's Charger's engine blew last year. Amy Watkins took the #1 spot with a 9.59 on 9.58 dial. John Giles had a single in Tim Adam's Brogie roadster, getting used to the car and a quick pause for track prep before Super Pro ET.

The track team are still working hard to get the track dry. Once we get under way, there will be streaming video via the Santa Pod Raceway Youtube and Facebook channels which we've linked to in the Event Index. Barney of Box Lane Productions tells us that there will be nine cameras in total, with those from the start area and end gantry now being hi-def, with a new bank mounted camera as well.
Commiserations to Tony Betts who, after a herculean complete rebuild of his Nostalgia Funny Car, has had to withdraw his entry after finding cracked gears in the car's Strange rear end.
In Sportsman ET there is a new Award sponsored by Cath and Tig Napier, and the award, drawn from the proverbial hat by Kirstie, will go to the number one qualifier off the trailer.

Good morning from Santa Pod Raceway for our coverage of the first day of the STP Springspeed Nationals from Santa Pod Raceway.
The weather here is cloudy with a wind of 9mph, temperature 8C and relative humidity of 90%. The Santa Pod marshals are out on track with a sweeper and jet dryer to get the track and shut down area dry as soon as possible. Yesterday there was a test session planned and 90 teams signed on, however the conditions were bad, with constant rain and a wind that pushed temperatures deep into single figures in the open.
Welcome to all Eurodragsterholics who are following the coverage. We are set to start qualifying at 9:30am and four sessions are planned finishing by 8pm tonight. The details can be seen via the Event Index.
A special hello to fans around the world, not least our no.1 fan from Finland (where it is warmer than the UK currently) Kai Plathan and his faithful hound Otto. Long time supporter and sponsor Bob Roberts reports he will be here today to watch and take photos no matter what the conditions are.
Bob's Perfect Light Award will be in operation this weekend with £50 to each of the racers in the closest race taking speed into account. Greetings also to our Perfect Award sponsors Cath and Tig Napier for the Perfect Light Award and Andy 'Fadster' Hadfield for the Perfect ET Award; both of these have been reset to £50.
Commiserations to those teams that entered but for whatever reason have been unable to make it to the track. Our particular sympathies go to Jordan and Nigel Payne who ordered some new pistons, were told they had reached the despatch depot in Essex only to find that they couldn't be found by the staff, and three weeks later they have still not turned up. We also hear that Aaron Fensome due to drive his PWRD/Gold RV sponsored dragster in Super Pro ET has had to withdraw from the event. Hard luck guys, we'll see you at the next round hopefully.
