Martin Hill was next in Fireforce 3, the usual ear splitting, tower shaking flame and thunder show. Great run, 5.913/271.4 run, 1.138 to 60ft and 4.078/204.21 to half track.

Wayne Nicholson and Jon Webster first, Jon's tyres audibly shrieking at the end of the burnout as he lifted. Jon pedalled to 6.71/221 and Wayne went from side to side of his lane, clicking it off before half track. Jon's incrementals 1.063 to 60ft and 4.464/170 to half track.
Kev Slyfield ran singly, 6.367/235.30, pedalling expertly at 60ft, 1.118 to 60ft and 4.29/188 to half track for no.1.

Top Fuel Dragster session 1
RFM boss Rune Fjeld returned to the UK recently from his native Norway, the car with Antti Horto on board started on the second attempt after running just a couple of seconds, so no need to purge the nitro from it. Great launch, 0.8386 to 60ft and off the throttle before 330ft, the car went into tyre shake and wheelspin. A truly great spectacle and much more to come tomorrow.
Susanne Callin next, with Gary Page and Laurie Bamford and Jack Jeyes now stepping up. Once again the first attempt to start didn't fire the engine but the team needed to hand crank the blower to purge the nitro.
On the restart Susanne burned out, the car going to 330ft but the idle not quite right. Susanne reversed, Laurie checked the settings and then she launched to 100ft going 0.853 to 60ft and 5.324/82 to half track, with a lot of tyre shake.

Funny Car session 1
Andy Raw running first, backed up by Carl Harrison, the plan is to run to half track as today is effectively a test. He staged straight and went to 1000ft with a 5.737/187.44, his first full pass on the new combination, very rich setup, well done Andy, Karl and team! 1.08 to 60ft and 4.43/161 to half track.
Kevin Kent and Steve Ashdown next, in 'big show' cars, Kevin in the Santa Pod car for the first time since 2019 as his own is not yet ready. Steve Ashdown with a sizeable crew waited patiently for Kevin's team to finish their pre race routine. Both off the throttle by 330ft but great 60fts. 0.9601 for Kevin and 0.9341 to Steve Ashdown. Both had 0.281 RTs, at 330ft Steve was ahead. Half track 4.085/131.20 for Steve, 5.073/91.82, ETs for Steve 6.0322 and Kevin 7.7234.

Elaine Hancock reported back from the pits "I just wanted to let everybody know that I'm absolutely fine, I consider myself to be very fortunate, the safety gear did its job, I'm in one piece, the car needs a little bit of tlc, but it didn't roll and it didn't catch on fire. I'm sorry I caused such a mess on the track and I apologise to the crew and thank everybody, they were absolutely brilliant". Thanks to Diana for interviewing Elaine.

Fireforce 5 started the session, Martin Hill's first outing of the event and looking great on the live feed with a very brave lady holding the camera. Martin clicked the car at half track but still ran a 5.457/212, 3.56/226 at half track and a 0.9477 60ft, fantastic run! Martin will now come back and run Fireforce 3 later in the show.

Taylors Trophy Super Street Bike qualifying session 3
Great run for Ven 6.999/208 as Jake Mechaell went 7.321/192.22 to go third. Followed by Alan Morrison Jnr 7.416/190 and Ross Morrison 8.106/170, the 8 bike bump spot now 7.43 in great conditions. Graham Dance went 7.355/199 to go from 8th to 5th. Mark Dainty trying to keep the front down and Steve Mead trying to stay away from the right wall. Mark Hope finished the session, 7.311/195.42 but disqualified as the bike took the blocks out at the 1320ft mark. Ross Morrison on the outside looking in.

Third time of asking for Tom Atkinson and Dave Russell, Tom's dial in slightly slower than usual - and broke out to 8.93/150 on 8.97. Bob Doyle up from 18th to 13th. 0.003 for Mick Howling who moves up from 11th to 10th. Ashley Bell moved up from 25th to 13th and Laura Turburville who has remained in #1 since the first session, ran 7.852/167 on a 7.86.
0.002 RT for Mark Coulsell, but stayed in 12th. JT in the Crew Killer emerged from under the tower a knat's whisker away from the centre refuge. Alongside him, Barry Giles moved up one place. Scott Hauser took the #1 spot as Ian Brown pulled a 0.003 RT, closest yet to the Bad Habit Racing Perfect Light Award. 25th to 9th for Billy Gane. Jack Brewster dialled 8.50, the car capable of much quicker, ran a 10.21/111 as he gets used to his new ride. Mark Turner went 9.28/144.

James Forster up from 31 to 14 as Leigh Morris switched on the nitrous and ran 10.843/120 in his Jaguar. Ronnie Mercer still in cruise mode but up from 13 to 4, great judge of a run from Ronnie.
Geoff Cowley at #33 needed to get into the field, went to 24 as Dave Cherrett went to #12. Huge wheelstand, a heart stopping moment as the car went almost vertical for Tig Napier and the car stopped on track. The wheelie bar had folded up to the bumper, so a new wheelie bar will be on the shopping list, as well as a front suspension examination and repair.
Amy Watkins went to #3 from #5 on a +0.005 run. Alfie Wratten next alongside Tom Kaye, Tom way out of shape after the launch and on two wheels at one stage. Great run for Gary Carr who wheelied to 8.955 and up from 24 to 3 with his exhaust collector being left on the track at 60ft. Nick Mugridge was last in the session, getting more consistent.

Tom Herbert into #1 in his Corrado 2900cc. Jacob Bailey broke out running a great 10.431/140.68. James Gould went to #1 against Adrian Solly in L8 Goose, then Carl Goldsmith and Dave Crowhurst, both with ambitious 9.89 dials, Dave closest but Carl running a great 143mph as the Golf characteristically emitted some smoke at the top end. Paul Bargate with a conservative 11.99 dial, went into #1 at the end of the session.

Nigel Hale and Ashley Cooper up first, Ashley's engine cut out but he did take the green after a 21s RT. Next Elliot Day's competition debut, the teenager having crewed for Dad Dave, 9.894 being his first nine, well done Elliot!
Andy Bond and Nick Hale, Andy losing traction at 150ft. Great to see Al Williamson, albeit with the engine running a little rough on the burnout, alongside Ashley Higgs, pair of nines with more to come. Damian Halliwell back racing in his Biscayne, a smooth run for him.

Banks Night Club Top Fuel Bike qualifying session 1
Steve Woollatt 1.131 to 60ft, 4.211/179 to half track and 6.535/187 at the stripe, nice straight run, off it after 1000ft. Meanwhile Allan Davies suffered an engine explosion from his Puma 2000cc machine on launch, the bike pushed back and a trail of fluid from where Allan had sidelined the bike. Stay tuned.
Al Smith in the three cylinder PBR Rocket 3 against Neil Midgley on Cannon Engineering, Neil 6.647/181, 1.085 and 4.226/175 to the eighth as Al slowed after the launch, 1.23 to 60ft.

Greetings to Bruno Bader and Michel Tooren and teams, entered but not permitted to come into the UK due to Covid restrictions, John Tebenham 1.03 to 60ft then tyre shake and pedaled to a 6.736/222.17, 4.466/166 at half track.
Wayne Nicholson and Jon Webster next, Jon languid 1.088 to 60ft, 4.464/164 to half track and 6.764/215 as Wayne's tyres shook off the line, 1.199 and lifted to 25.361/28.82.
Nick Davies and Kev Slyfield, Kev couldn't disengage reverse after the burnout and backup, leaving Nick to solo, the turbo enginer eerily quiet. Wheelie "up rather than forward" for Nick, 1.021, 4.562 and 6.801/211.

Track Worx Comp Eliminator qualifying session 1
Great to see Jordan Payne back after piston delivery problems making it rather last minute.com. Lots of tyre shake for Kev Perkins, great run for Jordan in SM/A. Then drama as Elaine Hancock did a fantastic drifting burnout however when the tyres gripped, they propelled the car directly into the wall at a relatively slow speed. The team came up the track to console Elaine and no doubt assess what needs to be done to get her back on track. Stay tuned.
Kev Jenkins and Robin Orthodoxou next, Robin's hard tailed altered bouncing down the track but a big 190 speed, nice baseline run from Kev in the Escort powered by Vauxhall. Followed by the Williams Bros, Nic's Camaro running the engine from the Impala which had diff problems at VW Action.

Double breakout in first pair between Ashley Bell and Phil Toppin, new PBs for both we think, well done guys! Followed by traditional Tom Atkinson/Dave Russell matchup, another double breakout. Then Billy Gane, fresh from a triumph at Clastres in France last weekend, third pair of breakouts. Alan Didwell and Laura Turburville, Laura goes into no.1 with a 0.004 light and 7.906 on 7.90 alongside Alan Didwell 7.678 on 7.66 dial, great qualifying and possibly following last minute adjustments seeing the previous breakouts?
Mark Coulsell wearing a silver banner for the late Dave Rowlands alongside Ian Brown who went into fourth. Next Pel Norman, and get well soon to crew member Jack Williams who was hospitalised last week. Both Pel and Mark Turner rolled the beams so no elapsed time for either. Pete Walters alongside Brian Pateman, yet another pair of breakouts plus smoke from Brian, but no clearup needed.
Next was Marc Manning, runner up in the No Prep Big Tyre last weekend and Ron Bartlett, Ron into no.4 spot. Welcome back to Jack Brewster in a Pro Mod style Firebird newly constructed by Robinson Race Cars, Jack going to the left from his staging position and lifting, as Barry Giles went no.3. Next was Scott Hauser, 1.0397 60ft and 7.406, more hopped up than usual, to go into no.3 position. Kieran Astley next, 8.396 a great run for him. Next John Tebenham who will be donating funds from the sale of t-shirts in memory of Dave Rowlands. Nick Good in the four link dragster was alongside Mark Bailey. A lost GoPro camera has been handed in to race control, claimed by Allan Schofield.

Modurstang Pro ET qualifying session 1
Ben Newsome broke a rod last weekend, and is unfortunately absent. Will Clark and Chris Newsam (713) out first. Geoff Cowley broke out by almost two tenths, some adjustment in order there. Lee Huxley and James Forster in the third pair, Lee in the Nova again after being in the Mustang last weekend, and into no.1 with a +0.004, close to the Perfect ET money already. Big wheelstand for Perfect Light award sponsor Tig Napier.
Then new boy Allan Schofield, with 30 years racing experience in circuit motorcycles and TT who broke out on his first pass alongside Darren Law who went into no.2. The ex Steve Harrington Toyota of Alfie Wratten next against Bob Molden who was pushed back when the marshals decided the right hand Autoglym lane had some fluid on. Ronnie Mercer followed with a 11.25 on 11.20 over two seconds under his PB, nicely judged Ronnie. Bob Molden went next as the tractor lined up to sled the Autoglym lane.
Leigh Morris also on a nicely judged pass, dialled in a second below his normal pace. Dave Fulton then went into third, followed by Dave Cherrett and Marc Huxley in Can Do 2 Reborn. Simon Gough crewed by Mike Lacey, good to see him back after a year or so off, in a new class for him. Chloe Wilkins broke out by 14 thousandths, unlucky there. Tom Watkins continuing in Dad Neill's pickup. Next the two Firebirds of Amy Watkins and James Oliver. In the last pair Tom Kaye got into a wiggle in his new junior comp dragster.

The track team are now working on the expansion joints in the concrete surface to ensure a safe racing track. Stay tuned. We have one or twp snippets which we'll post in the relevant class when qualifying starts.

Good morning and welcome to our coverage of the Festival of Speed from Santa Pod Raceway.
After overnight rain it is currently cloudy and dry. The SPR crew have been hard at work drying the track and we should be on for a start in the not too distant future, possibly around 10:00 or so.
In the meantime, you will be able to see our galleries from yesterday kindly taken by Diana and Julian, who sent them to your Editor in Aldeburgh, Suffolk until this morning (hence the late start). You will see a wide variety of vehicles, some of which were taking to the track for the very first time.
Greetings to all Eurodragsterholics tuned in, many of whom are here at the track. The live stream will start as soon as racing begins, so we will let you know as soon as that happens.
Welcome back to Nitro FM which you can hear from the link at their home page. You'll be able to hear Colin and Darryl's commentary even before the stream commences, it's great to have them both back and bantering as ever. We also welcomed back SPRC Club Steward and former race director and team nutritionist Syd McDonald who is here for the first time after lockdown.
