VW Sportsman Qualifying session 5
The final for the STP Greenlight Nationals took place at the end of the session.
Morgan Wilson defeated Lee Cordery who redlit (times TBC) and won £250 from the VWDRC.
Charlie Roberts moved up from 5th to third, and Rob Creswell from 10th to 6th.

Carl Goldsmith back after replacing a head gasket during the day. A huge cloud of smoke but the first nine second pass for Carl, 9.9987/145.72, well done Carl and crew! Carl also went to #1 being 0.0087 over dial. Oil discovered at the top end in Carl's lane so the tractor called to sled it out. James Hodson improved but stayed in position.

Nostalgia FC test
Andy Raw fired up, did the burnout, momentary concern that reverse wouldn't engage, then reverse back. Car went straight to the eigth, 1.0920 to 60ft, 4.4774/139.47 to the eighth and 8.2242/107.94. Much improved, well done Andy, Karl and crew!

Supercharged Outlaws Session 5
In the final SO session today we had Joel Kerr v Keith Freeman. Keith's burnout was to 200ft, Joel's shorter. Ian Pellant motioned Joel into stage then it was a wheels up launch for Joel, and Keith pulled a red light. Joel's short times were 1.0790 to 60ft, 4.7744/149.05 to half track and 7.5320/158.47 however drama commenced for Joel when the engine let go at around 1000ft and a lot of smoke appeared under the car in the left hand lane. He went sideways across the finish line and tapped the left wall but got the chute out and the car drifted across the track causing it to graze the other wall. We had word that Joel is perfectly ok. Keith recorded a slowing 10.99/89.59, slowing as he saw Joel's incident unfolding in front of him. We are now on hold for vehicle recovery and clean-up. There were no other Supercharged Outlaws this session so here are today's final timings and qualifying lists:

Oly Whitehouse sidelined his Beetle at 300ft. Alongside him, Graeme Freeman moved up a spot and then Oly's car had to be retrieved and towed down to the shutdown area.
Whilst we have some down time, we can happily confirm Nitro FM will return next weekend and we look forward to seeing the team back in action.
Ian Huggan had a line-loc failure so would welcome a spare unit.

RWYB Session 3 (ctd)
In a blow for the finals held over from the STP Greenlight Nationals, two of them are down to byes. Danny Pike's Outlaw Flat Four Notchback is broken and Luke Stevenson's VW Pro Golf (called The Loaner after it had been loaned by Carl Goldsmith) also out of action after suffering breakage in the hands of Jacob Bailey. After seeing some of Jacob's banter to Luke displayed in the car's rear window, you could say that added injury to insult. It was decided later to hold those two finals over to the STP UK National Finals. The VW Sportsman final between Morgan Wilson and Lee Cordery will be run at the end of today's racing.

RWYB Session 3
Andy Raw out first. Team looking very smart in their Peter Walters Race Design crew shirts. Andy staged well to the right and the car made a move to the right on its launch as well. Off the throttle.
Jet FC racer Martin Hill then came to the starting area for his first run in the FireForce 3 jet FC. This is Martin's first run of 2020 and it's in the traditional Autoglym lane. The flame and thunder show as strong as ever, and the tower not moving as much thanks to the new support beam. Great launch and pass to 1.1381 60ft, 4.0808/204.10 to the eighth and 5.9184/269.91 at the stripe.
Roger Goring was up next in Firestorm, earlier leak repaired. A short flame and thunder show and then full thrust to 1.1137 60ft, 4.157/195.32 to the eighth and a great 6.0918/246.36 for the quarter. A great treat to see the two jet cars, a bonus to all who came not expecting them to run!
We had a Outlaw Street match-up between Dave Mahoney and Rob's C10 pickup, a great 8.8952/155.21 for Dave to 10.8734/128.80 for Rob.
A couple of interesting combinations were a blue K20 Turbo Polo which suffered tyre spin with narrow street tyres, and a VW engined motorcycle which ran in the tens.

Andy 'Fadster' Hadfield is out for the remainder of the event. He told us 'The fire was caused by an electrical problem, the magneto rotating and affecting the timing. The supercharger lifted and a lot of repairs will be needed, for which Andy has five days as daughter Purdie is running at Not The Euro Finals.
Superb first run for Joel Kerr, 7.0082/197.99 (1.0582 60ft), well done Joel and crew!

First was Andy Raw in the Nitro Bug. Strong burnout, Karl Harrison guiding the car into pre-stage. Car moved to right and Andy was off the throttle by 100ft to a 13.5102/57.89 (1.0814 60ft).
Next was Roger Goring in Firestorm, however there was leaking fuel and Roger got the shut off signal.
Graham Rawlings 10.2072/130.21 v Rob's C10 pickup (OS09) 10.8315/126. Marc Taylor's Seat Leon ran 11.3659 to go 11th in the order. Then Dave Mahoney ran 9.3674/145.84 (1.4505 60ft), almost identical to his first run!

Pause as Richie Webb's crew pulled the chute pin and then he went to 9.7128/128.76. Simon Knief with a flapping rear window down the track, or 'active aero' as Luke Stevenson put it on the commentary. Danny Pike's notchback made a move to the right, then James Wotton idled through with problems.

Supercharged Outlaws Session 2
First pair was Gary Parkes v Eurodragster.com Perfect ET award sponsor Fadster. Gary across the line first 8.4661/159.59 to Fadster's 8.7010/128.45 suffering wheelspin.
After the burnout Joel Kerr was pushed back as the track crew went to the top end for a stranded Fadster after a small fire which was quickly extinguished. On the restart David McCallan in his Chevy truck ra a 9.5052/142.15. Paul Dale ran 9.6567/122.86 after darting to the right on the launch and then pedalling.

David Mahoney (OS68) ran 9.364/147.22 (1.3925 60ft) in his fully street legal Camaro. Graham Rawlings (WB83) went 11.3843/122.72 in his VW powered slingshot, giving the startline crew a scare on his launch.
Mike Whittaker in his four wheel drive Caddy ran a 10.1481/139.40, well done to him on what we think is a new PB!
We hear that Andy Raw in Nitro Bug, Martin Hill in FireForce and Roger Goring in Firestorm will be running at the end of the next qualifying session, around 12:10.
Sam Edward Swain has a tube chassis with a rear engined R32 designed for a Polo Coupe shell, fired up yesterday for the first time, Sam went 12.35/108 on the new car's initial run.
Jose Leite with his rapid diesel Polo went 11.6819/118.56. Just going into the second session for invited classes.

First out Andy 'Fadster' Hadfield and Keith Freeman, Purdie Hadfield acting as back-up girl for Fadster. Big tyre shake for Fadster 1.4304 60ft and 8.609/152.11 at the stripe. Keith had a 10.523 lifting just after the eighth mile.
Next was Paul Dale in his 105E Acute Angle v David McCallan in his Chevy truck. Paul had a new PB 8.608/155 to David's 9.4177/143.02, well done Paul and crew!
Gary Parkes was last with a 1.215 60ft and 8.1378/166.69, close to a PB for Gary.

Good morning and welcome to our live coverage of VW Breakout. It's a cool but sunny morning here at Santa Pod Raceway with temperature of 12 degrees celsius rising to 16 degrees and wind of 11mph.
The plan for today is for on track action to commence at 09:30 with qualifying for invited race classes (VW Pro, VW Sportsman, Outlaw Flat Four and Supercharged Outlaws) from 09:30, 11:30. 13:30, 15:30 and 17:00. At 17:00 there will also be the finals from the STP Greenlight Nationals for VW Pro, VW Sportsman and Outlaw Flat Four. Tomorrow there will be eliminations at 11pm quarter finals at 13:30, semi finals at 15:00 and finals at 16:30. RWYB will take place between these times and there will be a show and shine pitside. We will be reporting on each session of the invited race classes and will report highlights of RWYB.
There is the usual plethora of campers here spread widely over all of the surrounding fields, so social distancing is adhered to. Most facilities are available such as the bars, food outlets and so forth but on a smaller scale than usual and no bands this evening.
A big hello to Eurodragsterholics and in particular our team members Kirstie and Diana who are unable to attend this weekend. We will have photos courtesy of Julian and Kieran and post the galleries after racing as usual. Hello also to longtime supporter and sponsor Bob Roberts and to those tuned in from overseas who would like to be here but can't make it. We'll see you in 2021.
The counter-rotator is making its final passes and the track looks in great condition so we'll be back when racing starts.
