Track Worx Comp Eliminator qualifying session 1
First pair George Chiarella and Kev Slyfield. Kev was 0.9800 to 60ft 3.9147/188.78 to the eighth and lifted early, to George's somewhat wayward run, lifting early too. Next was Elaine Hancock on a solo, staged pointing slightly right, corrected it immediately and went down the track to a 8.5s benchmark run, so consistent. Lloyd Perkins took the other lane, easy launch and car went down the track on tickover. Matt Peters started, engine didn't sound right, shut off and towed down fire-up road.

Bruce Kopasz in the 924 lost gearing and then regained it alongside James Hodson. Adrian Solly with a 0.0013 RT, very close to Perfect Light, and wags the car's tail along the way.

Usual Pro ET runner Ethan Lisle entered into this class, with an over-optimistic 19.99 dial for his stock Lupo. Charlie Roberts in 5 Up! suffered problems and came to a halt at 330ft, being pushed back after Justin Foley went through with a 0.2s breakout. Points contender Jon Crawford broke out by 3/10s. Other visitors to the class were Super Pro racer Joe Kellett, who held his dial-in board out of the window and Eurodragster.com honorary member Spencer Tramm.

Tom Atkinson lost a few tenths with a wayward launch. Good to see Mike Lacey back for his first showing of the year and a lively wheelie as well. Ron Bartlett pushed back. Rob Brown's first showing in the class in his WB slingshot. Phil Toppin's car performing well. Alan Didwell had a 0.008 light and +0.0148 on his dial and went into #1. Eurodragster.com sponsor Peter Walters back in his blown BBC dragster, massive tyre shake and engine stopped, pulled over to the right. Ashley Bell now using nitrous in his new Firebird, ran two tenths quicker than his dial-in. In last pair Scott Hauser into #1.

Ronnie Mercer idled down the track with a problem. Dave Cherrett's dial in nine tenths off what he ran last weekend, and broke out. A spate of breakouts towards the end of the session. Lee Huxley back in the Mustang. At the end Dean Robey did an observed run in the Thug Motorsport Dragster, lifted before half track.

The wind yesterday resulted in Junior Dragster testing being halted during the afternoon, fortunately it's not quite as blowy today. 0.007 RT for McKenzie Love to go to #1 and a swing at the Bad Habit Racing Perfect ET Award to boot. Friday Birthday girl Kaitlan Deevey's car came to a halt around 1000ft and was pushed to the first exit. Championship contender Matthew Dowdy in #2 spot later in the session. Identical 0.0460 RTs for Thomas Cook-Abbott and Harley Coulsell in the same pairing. -0.0076 for Jacqueline Bartlett, Perfect Light Award winner at the last race.

Good morning and welcome to our John Woolfe Racing-sponsored coverage of day 1 of the STP National Finals from Santa Pod Raceway.
It's a gloriously sunny day without a cloud in the sky, temperatures on the chilly side at 6C (43F) rising to 12C (54F) and wind of 18mph, slightly less than yesterday's Performance Test Day. You will see from yesterday's report and gallery from Julian that some vehicles were suffering directional stability issues in the cross wind.
The plan for today which you can see in the running order from the Event Index is for four complete rounds of qualifying to a scheduled finish of 18:40 although this time depends on conditions. The track team have worked hard to prepare the track, the left lane of which was scraped yesterday evening in the first 30ft or so.
