Stu's widow Bev flicked the starter's switch for the chief marshals to set off the timers one last time for him. Keith Bartlett said before the race that there had been engine damage in the Top Fuel cars that necessitated the teams working to 3am. A big cloud of nitro wafting into the tower, both cars sounding great now. Both drivers off after the eighth and strong performance until that point. Good morning and welcome to day three of our coverage from Not The European Finals. It's a glorious day, with barely a cloud and temperatures 11C (52F) rising to 25C (77F), with wind speed of around 11mph.
Today is eliminations day and round one of Pro ET is scheduled for 09:30. We have demo sessions and the final qualifier of Pro Mod scheduled for 10:30am and around 15:30 with nitro action at 12:00 and 15:00, all these timings subject to track conditions. We had news of some breakage this morning, in Comp Eliminator Kev Jenkins is out, the team reported that on the final qualifier they noticed on cranking the engine over it was not well, stripped it down and discovered the liners were cracked. In Super Pro ET there are a plethora of broken cars, John Tebenham, Steve Saunders (convertor), Mark Flavell (transmission), Dave Russell (suspected engine damage) and Dave Evans (engine damage). Mark Todd is also out after failing the cruise for a minor electrical issue which was just too inaccessible to cure on the spot at the SPR gate. We hope to see you all back at the track soon.
Also out for today is Tony Betts who had an unfortunate crash in the second round of the Funny Car Cannonball yesterday afternoon, it was one of those incidents which give rise to concern for the driver but thanks to the safety features of the car and the design of the track walls, Tony was out of the car walking around just a few minutes later. Tony, we're glad you're well and are sure you will be back next year.
