Kev Slyfield ran a 6.0028/237.23, 0.996 to 60ft and 3.9319/190.40 at half track, great run not arrow straight but well controlled, with a harder launch. He was followed by Kev Jenkins getting more boost and running 9.88/140, well short of what the car is capable of. Matt Peters, with Spencer Tramm in attendance as Super Crew, made a strong burnout and 1.3011 to 60ft and 5.573/104.68 to half track. John Tebenham up from 9th to 6th in the first pair, then Ron Bartlett v Dave Evans with a gap of 0.0268 (although we must note that Bob's Photo Finish Award is for the closest race in eliminations . Leah Kellett lost fire after the burnout in the next pair and had to be pushed back as Austin Jacques moved up from 4th to 3rd. Steve Johnson improved his time to 7.829/175 but remained at 11th with a 7.00 dial as Billy Gane stopped at half track and need to be towed to the exit. Ashley Bell went 10.802/133.21 in his new Firebird. Phil Drewitt marked his debut in the class with a wild ride including three wheelstands and ending stationary on the other side of the track. Good 8.28 run for Joe Stevens in the next pair. Mark Todd with a great 7.1235/198.90 (1.206 60ft). 13:25 Exhibition Session 2 Neil Midgley first, 1.1198 to 60ft, drifted across his lane and lifted after 1/8 mile 4.555/136.12. Next was Steve Woollatt for his first pass of 2020. 6.6071/171.74, 1.1024 to 60ft and 4.1872/178.97 at the eighth, great pass! The third bike was Al Smith, short burnout and another riding job but smoke and out of it at 1000ft. 1.0879 to 60ft, 4.228/176 to the eighth and 6.9196/151.63 at the stripe. The first car out was Robin Read, the engine running higher than usual revs after the burnout but he reversed back fine. A softish launch, got quite close to the left wall and was out of it after the eighth, 1.1509 to 60ft and 4.834/147 at half track with 8.3031/111.55 at the stripe. Andy Raw in the Nitro Bug was next, engine sounding strong and burnout to 200ft. 1.160 to 60ft then he feathered the throttle as he neared the wall and just grazed it slightly with the headers, which activated the parachutes. Andy made the first turnoff and I'm sure he'll be back for more later. Bobby Wallace then brought out his ex-Rickie Smith Camaro Pro Mod with a 903ci nitrous assisted engine, in the same colours it wore in NHRA competition. 11:20 Exhibition Session 1 Robin Read was first up. If you've read his Tales From the Shed on FB, you will know how hard he has been working on his new car. The nitro fuelled Daimler engine sounded really strong on the burnout and then a 1.4041 60ft launch-and-shut-off in the Spirit of Le Patron dragster, named in tribute to his late father Jim Read, a leading light in the sport in the 1970s and 1980s. Neil Midgley was next on the Cannon Motorsport Supertwin. 1.0708 60ft, 4.847 to half track but by then he was heading from the right lane for the centre line and displaced a 1000ft block in crossing lanes. Al Smith on the PBR Rocket was next, 7.165/135.75, great riding job as the bike wanted to go left and he avoided crossing the centre line. 1.09445 60ft and 4.213/177.08 to half track. 11:10 VW Pro Qualifying session 1

Good to see Damian Haliwell back in his Biscayne too against James Murray in a V8 Cortina. Ashley Cooper in his Transit lifted after he got close to the wall. Alan Williamson in the Procharged 3100 Pickup had a good straight run. The final pair was Mark Todd and Joe Stevens, both prior champions. After a pause Mark did a great burnout across the line, Joe doing his before the startline. Tyre spin, a bang and off the throttle for Mark and Joe lifted. First off Kev Slyfield v Kev Jenkins. Kev S burned out to 300ft and Kev J behind the start line. Kev S got a good start, 1.1145 60ft 4.323/173 to the eighth and lifted after half track. Many of these cars for the first time down the track this year, great effort by the teams. Callum Swinchatt (who has been at the track this year) an early leader with +0.0196. Steve Saunders still with a 'For Sale' in the rear window of his Zephyr. Steve Johnson asked to shut off by Chief Starter Ian Marshall for a leak out of his slingshot. Good to see Wing Commander Dave Catton crewing for Nick Good, driving the Lucas Oil/Windscreen Wizards four-link car this event and leaving his other two cars at home. A fair amount of smoke from Phil Toppin followed by a quick track check, nothing found. The Doomsday Impala with a rear screen advertisement for Evans Stonemasons, into third alongside Alan Didwell into fourth with a 7.86 on a 7.75 dial. Scott Hauser soloed to a 7.4676/175.00 on 7.52, his best yet we think but places him at thr foot of the standings. Jake Cooper with another new JS runner, with Fenny Racing and crewed by Aaron Fensome. RTs getting there, Luke Fulton an early leader with 0.0155 and four sessions to get down to the £125 Perfect Light award territory. 9.00 Good morning and welcome to Eurodragster.com's John Woolfe Racing-sponsored coverage of the STP Greenlight Nationals at Santa Pod Raceway. The sky has low cloud, the temperature 16 degrees and it is dry as we see the counter-rotator doing its thing before qualifying starts at 09:30. We are scheduled to run to 18:45 this evening so follow our report for frequent updates. We posted a total of 120 photos by Julian and 60 by Eurodragster.com sponsor Bob Roberts of yesterday's test session. The session was lively with cars and bikes from most sportsman classes having a try down the track. There were a couple of new vehicles too, notably Robin Read's new dragster and Ashley Bell's new Firebird which will be going through shakedown passes this weekend. We also saw Elaine Hancock's Lethal Zephyr Reinvented on track for the second time, and understand she will be in both Comp Eliminator and Pro ET. There were one or two mechanical casualties as well. We heard from Dan Holloway that he has a suspected head gasket failure on his new Fox body Mustang and is now doubtful for the event. We'll let you know any other news as we hear.
