Rikard Gustafsson shut off, Steve Woollatt shut off

Rikard Gustafsson 5.9425/238.89 bye

Stu's bike didn't sound at all right in the burnout and he shut it off. Rene took the bye, 1.0214 to sixty, bike fishtaling and then moving left, smoke then a flash of flame from the motor at the eighth 4.0284/184.30, fire got bigger and bigger but the motor was still pulling so my guess is head gasket. The fire was pretty big by the finish line and continued down the shutdown area, safety crews moved very quickly and chased Rene down. Clean-up ensued. On the restart Fil to sixty in 1.0969, Mark in 1.1916, 3.9648/206.09 at the eighth for Fil then shut off at a thousand and put the chute out. Mark to the eighth in 5.0458/137.85, quickly into the sevens on the new bike, well done Mark and team! Thomas shut off with a broken belt. Dale to sixty in 1.1721, the eighth in 4.5477/160.22, smoke before the stripe and Dale said that some fire came up from a torched cylinder head. Rikard and Steve shut off before staging for spots of rain.

Track attended to, Rikard and Steve ready to stage again and shut off for rain again.

Rikard back for a third go, Steve elected not to run. 1.0605 to sixty, fishtailing but held on to it, 3.9281/196.30 at the eighth and looked to be on the gas all the way. Smoke in the shutdown area and close to the left guardrail but all OK.

First FIA outing for Dmitry. Hit the throttle for the burnout and some of the ne wwrap shredded and came off the car. 1.0139 to sixty feet driving through shake, the shake continued until the whole car was blurring, hard left just before the eighth 4.5951/123.80 and off the gas, pulled it back and idled through. Mark barely up on revs before launch, 1.0260 to sixty heading left with tyres blackstriping, close to the centre line and shut it off about 200 feet out, idled through the eighth 5.6796/85.24. Quick check below Marcus' car before staging. Nick up on the revs in stage then off, lights ran, Marcus got up and went 0.9883 to sixty, drive through shake, 4.0897/177.05 at the eighth. Nick still on the line, Marcus with issues slowing and got into a flat spin in the shutdown area, huge cloud of dust, when it cleared the left side of the car was pointed towards us. Simon back from the pits tells us that Marcus hit the wall and is out for the weekend. Nick up on the revs then 1.1905 to sixty, drove through clearly visible shake, the tyres were really flapping. 4.3337/179.76 to the eighth and accelerating hard in the second half. Safety crews waited for Nick to get safely past then sped to Marcus' aid. Bobby visibly away first 0.1532 to 0.5296, the quicker sixty 1.0071 to Bert's 1.0080, Bobby drove through shake after sixty feet but stayed with it, 4.0425/181.81 to the eighth, Bert not far behind at 4.0492/180.54. Bobby looked to be off the gas just before the stripe. Not easy to see what happened from here but there was a big cloud of smoke in the shutdown area and when it cleared Bert's car was over in Bobby's lane and the safety crews were moving. Word came back that Bert had banged the wall so unfortunately the BA Racing team are out for the weekend.

On the restart Eurodragster.com sponsor Jon to sixty in 1.0848, Kev in 1.0639 with shake, the shake wasn't getting any better for Kev so shut off as the 'Bird made a move. Jon drove through shake, Mustang headed left but he stayed with it, 4.2885/174.87 at the eighth, motor sounded to have a slight misfire but on the gas all the way as Kev idled through. No revs and a rattling sound for the motor from Peter, shut off and pushed back. Peter to sixty in 1.0852, hesitation from the motor, shut it off about 300 feet out. 4.9177/120.11 at the eighth, chutes out at about 1000 feet. 500-foot burnout for Freddy and stopped rolling ta 1000 feet, Mats burned out after Freddy but Freddy still got back to the start line before Mats. You'r enot surprised though are you. Freddy to sixty in 0.9932 droiving through the shake as is his wont, 0.9832 for Mats, Mats looked to have shake but not quite as much. Mats with the better eighth 4.0343/174.94, the Vistoria starting to make quite serious moves left and right but he stayed with it. Freddy to the eighth in 4.0872/181.06. Michel staged pointing at the eighth mile reflectors. Jean strapped a 0.1485 to 0.4194 holeshot on Michel, Michel with the better sixty 1.0051 to 1.0629, Michel's car headed left and he was off the gas 150 or so feet out. Jean's Camaro headed left, close to the guardrail but he stayed with it with flames clearly visible from the pipes, 4.1399/179.82 very close to the guardrail but he pulled it back towards the centre of the lane. Looked like a handbrake turn right at the end of the track for Jean to stay out of the field, stopped with the right side of the car facing us. Kim jumped out of stage going up on the revs. Norbert to sixty in 0.9923, Kim in 1.1352, Norbert's motor sounded down on power by the eighth 4.3766/157.98, Kim tried to drive through shake but then shut it off before the eighth 4.8912/120.89. Smoke from Norbert's car in the second eighth and down the shutdown area, track checked and all OK. Roger strapped a 0.0540 to 0.6045 holeshot on David who was planning a half pass. 1.0000 to sixty for Roger, 0.9462 for David, Roger drove through shale and he got off it before the eighth as the car made a move left and right, 4.4918/161.91 at the eighth. David to the ighth in 3.9657/152.35 and off the gas, as planned checking ou tthe repaired motor. Jan away first 0.0923 to 0.2923, 1.0060 sixty for Jan with minimal shake, 1.0180 for Andreas. Visible lead for Jan at the eighth 3.8834/194.30, moving right but stayed with it and pulled it back, 3.9983/192.07 for Andreas, Andreas looked to shut it off a touch early. Micke to sixty in 1.0619, shake and motor zing and off the gas. 0.9703 to sixty for Jimmy, acceptable shake. Storming eighth 3.8426/195.06, on the gas all the way. Final licencing pass for John Tebenham, licence won I'd say! 1.0473 to sixty with a little shake, 4.1056/182.90 at the eighth, car started drifting right a little but no dramas.

FIA Top Methanol qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Funny Car advantage stays at 0.22 this season.

Manty Bugeja 5.4276/262.19 bye; Jonny Lagg no time, Sandro Bellio 5.7138/249.10

Matthew Carabott did a fine job in the dragster on Thursday, now Manty's turn. Deep stage then 0.9515 to sixty, minor shake which he drove through, car headed right but Manty stayed with it. 3.5734/213.69 at the eighth and pulled it back to the centre of the lane. Big burnout from Eurodragster.com sponsor Sandrooo, rolled to the eighth. Jonny's tyres up in smoke at the hit and shut off, 1.3591 to sixty and idling. Sandro drove through shake, 0.9760 to sixty, 3.8146/205.01 at the eighth moving left but Sandro pulled it straight, headed left again after the eighth, put the chutes out just before the stripe but was too far over and the chutes took out the quarter mile reflectors. No time for Jonny as Sandro's chutes had banged the blocks but Jonny was idling anyway. A big Thank You to David and Adam of the timing crew who got us the incrementals as our repeater screen froze and then what was on the screen disappeared after the timing computer was rebooted.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Manty Bugeja 5.4276/262.19
  2. Sandro Bellio 5.4938 (5.7138/249.10)

Secret Worx Comp Eliminator qualifying session 6

Improvement for Kev Jenkins but stayed #7. First run of the weekend for stand-in driver Nigel Payne, Get Well Soon Jordan. Nigel in at #2 at -0.4556. Cloud of smoke from Florian Übel's Mustang then a bang, blower panel I think, and the bonnet came off the car, quick cartwheel and landed in the traps. Florian up to #3 for his troubles though. Andy Hone up to #2.

Good morning from Santa Pod Raceway for our coverage of the FIA/FIM Main Event brought to you in association with John Woolfe Racing.

Sun and a little cloud here at Santa Pod, already warm, if you ask me you should be in your car or on your bike heading to Santa Pod if you are able.

Today's plan is to bring you real-time reports and results, pit notes courtesy of Simon, and a gallery at the end of the day courtesy of Julian, Kirstie and Diana. Simon posted all of yesterday's pit notes in one go, a large tranche (to use one of Ed's favourtite words), definitely worth a look as is yesterday's gallery if you have not already.

No webcast from us until Tuesday; Santa Pod Raceway are streaming this event on YouTube Live (Santa Pod TV) and Facebook (Santa Pod Raceway); you can find a link to the YouTube on the Event Index. Please note that the YouTube page will not, of course, show the live broadcast until it commences so just keep hitting Refreshon that page. Our next Webster Race Engineering/Nimbus Motorsport webcast will be from next Tuesday's and Wednesday's private test days here at Santa Pod.

Quite a long working day yesterday, seventeen hours in fact, but it seems to be the way these days that if you say that you did a seventeen-hour working day then some generous soul will respond that they did seventeen hours and five minutes, they worked harder than you did, you don't know what hard work is, twenty two years is a mere bagatelle etc. One stands corrected.

A big Good Morning to the Eurodragsterholics, especially Kai Plathan and the faithful Otto in Vehkataipale, Finland, and Ivar Kolberg who is tuned in from Norway. A lot of you have been in touch in the last few days with appreciative comments, we can't reply to everyone but please be assured that your comments are read and appreciated by the whole team. Thanks also to those who have been in touch to point out the occasional error, such as posting the standings for a completely different class to that stated... what an idiot.

We are due to start at 09:30 with Q6 of Modurstang Pro ET; Pro sessions are set for 10:25 and 14:30. In those Pro classes in which it is possible we will post between pairings so keep hitting Refresh. Until 09:30 tune in to Nitro FM and check out yesterday's report, pit notes and gallery, all of which are available via the Event Index.
