Gearhead Garage UK Super Pro ET qualifying session 5

Breakout but a new PB for Scott Crookston in the Outlaw Anglia, 7.8995/169.15 on 7.95 dial-in, well done Scott and team! Next pair and Daniel Giles up from #14 to #4 +0.0032. Top twelve all in the 0.00s at that point. -0.0002 RT fir Billy Everitt but redeemed himself by going +0.0073 on dial-in, up from #24 to #11. That made thirteen on +0.00-something. Nick Good +0.0077 in this round but already +0.0060 anyway. Next pair and Colin Millar set a dial-in of 6.99, just so that he could do what he really wanted I suspect. If what Colin really wanted was a flash of flame, a bang, motor zinging and losing drive a yard off the line then he got it... but I bet you he is still smiling and joking. 0.0050 RT for Billy Gane next run. Aaron Femsome up from #30 to #28 with the last run of the day.

18:25

Race Director Carole Ismail has just informed us that it is going to take a little while yet to clean the surface. The plan for the rest of today is to finish the Nostalgia FC and FIM Europe qualifying session, then if possible to complete Sportsman qualifying cycle 5.

18:00

Clean-up continues but in the meantime Simon has posted a second set of pit notes which you can check out via the Event Index.

17:50

Fuel Funny Car qualifying session 2 (left lane first)

Jason Phelps no time bye; Kevin Kent 4.5291/265.62, Steve Ashdown 5.0413/221.22; Kevin Chapman 13.9295/67.67 bye

First outing for Jason in Mark and Jackie Hawkins' FC and if memory serves only the second run this FC has made. Motor fired up but then consternation on the left side of the motor and shut off. Steve with the better sixty 0.9702 to Kevin K's 0.9802, Kevin hooking up and going 2.5299 to 330 feet, Steve driving through shake but still to 330 feet in 2.5983. Steve's FC drifted right and the tyres were shaking, he hung on to it and pulled it away from the wall, meanwhile Kevin got to the eighth in 3.6278/232.57 to Steve's 3.9159/183.92, Steve back on the gas in a yellow nitro haze, motor was making a humming noise. Kevin there first by 0.5442. Kevin C's tyres up in smoke and motor zinged, the cause soon obvious as the car moved forward as a huge puddle of oil was sitting under the car, both tyres got a coating and the Thermoreg FC turned hard right, Kevin did a great job of keeping it off the wall - there was very little in it. Continued down track with motor idling, trail of fluid marked Kevin's progress.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Kevin Kent 4.5291/265.62
  2. Steve Ashdown 5.0413/221.22
  3. Kevin Chapman 7.7046/93.72

On hold for clean-up.

FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 2 (left lane first)

Björn Mårtensson no time bye; Micke Kågered 10.3590/77.75, Liam Jones 3.9541/307.87; Jndia Erbacher 5.2659/139.83, Antti Horto 3.9046/303.58; Anita Mäkelä 3.9571/295.07, Stefan Gunnarsson 5.9951/111.11; Duncan Micallef shut off, Stig Neergaard 5.3735/127.70 bye

Björn's motor close to zinging on the two burnout stabs, high idle, no reverse so carried on down the track and took the first exit. Wheelie for Micke, rear end unloaded when the front end thumped down, tyres up in smoke, his run done. Liam to sixty in 0.8580, 2.2063 to 330 feet, 3.1597/264.69 at the eighth, some haze past the eighth but stayed with it all the way. Annti slapped a 0.1475 to 0.3524 holeshot on Jndia, 0.8511 to sixty to Jndia's 0.8764, 2.1715 to 330 feet to Jndia's 2.3282, Jndia with shake pedalled, blowe belt broke and exited the car past the eighth 3.6873/158.36. Antti's dragster started to move around its lane at the eighth 3.1100/267.80 then a hard move left and right and Antti was off the gas just before the stripe. Antti up to #1. Anita wheels up to sixty feet 0.8622 but the front end came down gently, no unload. 0.8598 to sixty for Stefan, 2.3866 to 330 feet, Anita better at 2.2271, Stefan's tyres hourglassed and he lost traction and was off it before the eighth 4.0451/131.17, the car hidden behind haze and smoke. Anita to the eighth in 3.1645 at a huge 273.44, motor started to go away after the eighth and there was a clear just before the stripe. Duncan rolled through the bleach box and nothing, stopped a few feet over the line and shut off. Stig to sixty in 0.8482 with clear shake marks in his lane, a pedal, tyre smoke, 2.2804 to 330 feet, shake, pedal and a twitch, eventually chucked it in just before the eighth 3.6878/152.02.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Antti Horto 3.9046/303.58
  2. Duncan Micallef 3.9203/309.97
  3. Liam Jones 3.9541/307.87
  4. Anita Mäkelä 3.9571/295.07

  6. Stig Neergaard 5.2807/215.11
  7. Stefan Gunnarsson 5.9951/111.11
  8. Micke Kågered 6.5121/103.04

1.0090 to sixty for Michael, a little shake, 1.0867 for Robin with shake and the car drifted right, Robin stayed with it. 4.3174/164.72 to the eighth for Michael, Robin pulling it back to the middle of his lane 4.4890/162.78. 1.0190 to sixty for bengt, 1.0101 for Stefan, Stefan with a little shake, Bengt with the better eighth 4.2826/165.93, Stefan there in 4.3100/164.02 moving around his lane so off the gas at 1000 and chutes out.

  2. Michael Malmgren 6.6698/201.44

  4. Robin Norén 6.7881/206.28

17:05

FIA Pro Modified qualifying session 2 (left lane first)

Jean Dulamon 6.6075/218.14 bye; Bobby Wallace 7.0588/196.31 bye; Norbert Kuno 6.3247/228.18, Jon Webster 8.3702/165.47;

Wayne Nicholson 6.4223/223.53 bye, Marcus Hilt did not start;

Freddy Fagerström 6.2103/215.12, Kev Slyfield 6.1206/232.52; Jan Ericksson 6.0420/239.02, Kim Christiansen 6.0011/242.53;

Long burnout for Jean and then an excellent pass. 1.0713 to sixty, Camaro swaying a little but stayed with it, 4.3480/171.07 at the eighth, looked to shut off a touch before the stripe. Track crew checked Jean's lane and there was a cluster of crew right at the end of the track. Eurodragster.com sponsor Jon Webster was listed to run alongside Jean but the Mustang is still at the head of the lanes as I type. Looked like a soft launch for Bobby rather than shake, 1.0822 to sixty, straight run, 4.5562/157.37 at the eighth, one place up the ladder. Jon next around the corner, a drifting burnout. Gentle launch for Jon, 1.3770 to sixty, 1.0111 for Norbert. No sign of shake for Norbert, 4.1489/177.04 ot the eighth, Jon to the eighth in 5.4811/135.52 but then smoke from the left bank and the Mustang completely disappeared into a huge cloud of smoke on the stripe. Jon got it stopped without problems, but the clean-up crew were called to the shutdown area.

On the re-start Marcus' motor would not fire up, lots of frantic work to crank it over and then try again but with Wayne waiting to burn out they had to call it quits. Wayne took the bye, 1.0345 to sixty not quite as quick as Q1, the Vette was swaying left and right but nothing Wayne couldn't handle. 4.2006/175.70 to the eighth. Another PB speed for Wayne, well done Wayne, Belinda and team! Fluid found in Wayne's lane, clean-up crew called.

On the next re-start 0.9932 to sixty for Kev, 1.0739 for Freddy, shake for the second hundred feet which visibly lost him a little time, Kev with about fifty feet of shake after the Tree but drove through it, to the eighth in 3.9888/183.97 ahead of Freddy's 4.0701/184.98. PB speed for Kev, well done Kev and team! Start line crew had a look under Jan's car before staging, thumbs-up and in they went. Kim to sixty in 1.0200 with shake which he drove through even as the car moved left, 0.9932 for Kim, Jan pulled it back to the centre of his lane and got to the eighth in 3.9943/189.64, Kim with the better eighth 3.9649/190.94. All eyes on Kim past the stripe as his chutes did not deploy, smoke from brakes clearly visible from here. Top end safety crew moved instantly. Word came from the top end that Kim just got it stopped before the field. More good news to add to the PB, well done Kim and team!

On the next re-start 0.9900 sixty for David, 0.9932 for Eurodragster.com sponsor Andy who then drove through shake to about 150 feet, David with a storming eighth 3.8946/191.18, Andy not far behind at 3.9789/187.86. Smoke from Davids motor right on the stripe. Another fantastci match to end the session! 0.9672 to sixty for Micke, drive through shake then tyres clearly turned just briefly and then the car hooked right up. 0.9735 to sixty for Jimmy, Micke to the eighth in an even more storming 3.8637/194.56, Jimmy in 3.9083/242.41.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Micke Gullqvist 5.8687/244.20
  2. Jimmy Ålund 5.9154/241.62
  3. David Vegter 5.9392/240.28
  4. Kim Christiansen 6.0011/242.53
  5. Jan Ericksson 6.0192/242.37

  13. Bobby Wallace 7.0588/196.31
  14. Marcus Hilt 8.1153/177.83

FIA Top Methanol qualifying session 2 (left lane first)

Sandrooo burned out to the eighth and rolled to a halt past 1000 feet. Made it back though. Sandro edged out of stage as the lights ran, unrepresentative sixty of 1.2503, tyres shook then went up in smoke and the FC turned right, Sandro pedalled and pedalled but eventually got off it before the eighth getting close to the guardrail. 1.0424 to sixty for Micke, a bit of shake past the Tree, 4.2065/177.79 at the eighth then his blower relief panel blew in the second eighth, sounds like other mischief ensued. 0.9376 to sixty for Jonnny, 1.0132 for Jürgen, Jürgen's tyres shook a little about 200 feet out but he drove through it. Jonny blackstriping all the way but straight as you like, 3.6019/221.27 at the eighth, 3.9598/196.77 for Jürgen. PBs for Jonny, PB speed for Jürgen, well done Jürgen! Thanks to Andy Marrs who got in touch to confirm that Dennis' and Timo's run in Q1 was indeed the quickest and fastest Top Methanol side-by-side of the new era. 0.9973 to sixty for Dennis but then shake and smoke, a couple of pedals then his burst plate blew and he took no further part. 0.9021 to sixty for Timo, 3.5902/211.91 at the eighth. Sweep of Dennis' lane.

Comp Eliminator qualifying session 5

First outing for a while for Conrad Stanley in the former Pro Stock, now in B/A with a 7.43 index. 1.0942 to sixty and off the gas, planned launch we think. Rob Smallworth up from #7 to #6 at +0.1137. Florian Uebel with idle problems after the burnout carried on to the second exit. Chris Orthodoxou took the bye, Angela armed wit hthe bras and one of the crew looked to have a bit of a domestic just before Chris staged, blissfully unaware Chris went off on his bye and another new PB for him at 6.8970/212.85, -0.2630 on index into the bargain, congratulations Chris! Chris celebrated with some classic Anglo-Saxon on the top end microphone but got in an apology and a plug for Eurodragster.com also. Tim Mugridge closed the session up to #3 at 7.5874/180.66 on a 7.99 index, -0.4026, Tim is back!

Terry Gibbs Super Gas Shootout qualifying session 4

First outing for Gilles Perruchoud and a 9.7600 breakout, in fact at that point all four who had run had broken out. Next pair both in the tens. 9.5180 for Tim Moore, not getting with the programme. Next pair and brian Pateman up from #17 to #7 +0.0514. Simon Gough, aka "Norma" after last week, still carrying the Get Well message to Your Reporter's greyhound Belle who I am pleased to say is improving each day after her operation. And what better way to celebrate Belle starting to recover than with a perfect 9.9009 and #1 spot, well done and thank you Simon!

Topspeed Automotive Street Eliminator qualifying session 4

A big Well Done to Carl Goldsmith who has made it back to the start line after changing motors yesterday. The eagerly-awaitied Nitrous purge from Graham Smith and into the nines. In the other lane an improvement still further for Martin Smith to consolidate hos #1 spot. Nick Hale's Mercedes didn't move on the green, crew went straight for the kill switch and he was pushed back.

FIM Europe Top Fuel Bike qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Phil Crossley 8.0041/173.73, Glenn Borg no time DQ; Eric Richard 7.2467/189.00, Lorcan Parnell 10.4096/86.03; Thomas Pettersson 7.2656/143.88, Steve Woollatt 6.3679/195.46; Filippos Papafilippou 6.0991/214.08, Dale Leeks 7.4118/184.30; Rikard Gustafsson 6.2568/227.85 bye; Stu Crane 8.7896/99.71 bye

Glenn rolled the beams then the Funny Bike drifted left and he banged an eighth-mile reflector. 1.0788 to sixty for Phil but he saw Glenn coming as you could hear him feather the throttle. Much more to come from Phil's bike. 1.1525 to sixty for Eric, front wheel high in the air, 1.3275 for Lorcan who was quickly off the gas. 4.6924/151.52 to sixty for Eric, off the gas just before the stripe. Steve to sixty in 1.0541, Thomas 1.1164. Steve on the usual straight run, 4.0849/179.61, I know TFB is not easy but Steve and his team make it look that way. Shut off before the stripe. Thomas to the eighth in 4.3966/158.52 and shut off past the eighth. Long burnout for Fil on what let's not forget was only his second time on the bike and the first just a burnout. We were all expecting a half pass or something, no chance! 1.0720 to sixty, 4.0186 at a huge 196.23 at the eighth, bike swaying gently, off the gas just before thr stripe. 1.1108 to sixty for Dale, 4.7895/152.64 at the eighth. Great run for Rikard too! 1.1406 to sixty, 4.1428/188.02 at the eighth, stayed on the gas all the way, big speed. Robin Norén 6.7881/206.28, Michael Malmgren 6.6698/201.44; Stefan Ernryd 6.7735/157.81, Bengt Ljungdahl 6.6683/208.98

1.0569 to sixty for Robin, car drifting right, 1.0071 for Michael. I suspect a conservative tune-up. High-frequency shake for Michael which he drove through and was visibly ahead at the eighth 4.2851/164.60 to Robin's 4.4001/163.52 pulling it back to the middle of his lane. 0.9824 to sixty for Stefan, light shake but nothing to write home about, 1.0171 for Bengt. Bengt's car was swaying left and right, moving for the centre line but hung on to it and the better eighth 4.3020/165.76 to Stefan's 4.3436/157.81.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Bengt Ljungdahl 6.6683/208.98

Peter rolled the beams, 1.6275 to sixty, then drove through tyre spin, motor note went up, stayed with it past the eighth 5.3827/145.34, black smoke from the motor then white smoke in the second half and a flash of flame. Track checked and all OK. Bucking bronco ride for Jean, 1.1003 to sixty on and off the gas four times then shut it off. Eurodragster.com sponsor Jon made it to the bleach box but pushed back and Chief Starter Ian Marshall signalled a single. Great run for Wayne! 0.9992 to sixty, a little shake which Wayne drove through, car headed for the centre line but Wayne stayed with it and pulled it back, 4.1184/174.34 at the eighth. New PBs for ET and speed, congratulations Wayne. Belinda and team! As ever thanks to Robin Jackson for the PB information. Kev Slyfield picked up where he left off in open session 1 last week. 0.9715 to sixty, Bobby driving through shake to sixty 1.1083, a pedal losing him time to the eighth 4.7427/141.18 by which time Kev was long gone 3.9798/182.66. Kev close to PB territory. Norbert Kuno with a team made up of various Englishmen now dubbed "Nigel". Big shake for Norbert, 1.0002 to sixty but hung on in there but he had lost a lot of time. 1.1636 with big shake for Marcus, the launch looked visibly slower than normal even with the shake. Marcus' 'Vette made a move to the left and he almost had it up on two wheels pulling it back, 5.2132/122.08 to the eighth and shut off. Norbert to the eighth in 4.4991/154.75. Great match between Eurodragster.com sponsor Andy and Jan! 0.9972 to sixty for Andy, drove through shake, the car making a move to the left but Andy pulled it back. 1.0260 to sixty for Jan, drove through shake and it picked right up after. Andy to the eighth in 3.9714/188.86, Jan in 3.9847/191.03, smoke from Jan's motor right on the stripe. Straightest run I think I have ever seen Freddy make. 0.9912 to sixty to Kim's 1.0420, some shake marks in Kim's lane but he drove through it as if it wasn't happening. Freddy right down Broadway to the eighth 3.9601/187.78, Kim also on a stormer 3.9964/188.06. Some concern around Bruno's car before staging but all OK. Bruno rolled the beams very slightly, then started to shake, 1.1796 to sixty. 0.9892 ot sixty for David, minor shake marks in his lane but I doubt he noticed it. Bruno's 'Vette headed left and he wrenched it back losing time, 4.3075/182.20 to the eighth then a lot of smoke in the second half. David to the eighth in 3.9053/191.83, smoke from his motor right at the line. Great match to end the sesison! Micke with the better sixty 0.9733 to Jimmy's 0.9971, no real sign of shake for either, Jimmy with the better eighth 3.8876/192.07 to Micke's 3.8953/193.39.

FIA Top Methanol qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Jürgen Nagel 6.9582/138.98, Rod Harrison 6.3672/230.22; Sandro Bellio 14.1953/54.02, Jonny Lagg 5.8252/254.68; Dennis Habermann 5.3218/270.39, Timo Habermann 5.3874/263.73

0.22 adjustment for the TMFCs. 1.0240 to sixty for Jürgen, 1.0011 for Rod, Rod drove through shake, a couple of pedals and back on it. 4.2137/169.15 at the eighth. Jürgen on the gas at the eighth 3.9465/160.61 but then off it, chutes out before the stripe. Nearly eighth-mile burnout for Sandro and rolled beyond before reversing. 1.0940 to sixty for Sandro with shake and then smoke, FC moved left and he was off the gas before 330 feet. Jonny with one of those runs which looked quicker, 0.9847 to sixty, driving through shake, drift left towards the eighth 3.8888/202.03. Fantastic match between dennis and Timo! Dennis to sixty in 0.8973, Timo 0.9109, broth drove through a little shake, I think I heard one brief pedal but couldn't tell you who. Slight drift towards the centre line for Timo but stayed with it. Dennis with the better eighth 3.5128/216.92 to Timo's 3.5288/212.47. Checking with the numbers compiled by Andy Marrs I say that that was the quickest side-by-side Top Methanol pass of the combined era.

  2. Timo Habermann 5.3874/263.73

Comp Eliminator qualifying session 4

Wayward burnout for Paul Brooks but had it well in hand. Rob Smallworth up a spot from #7 to #6 in the second pair. Andy Hone improved still further to consolidate his #1 spot. Always a laugh to be had watching Angela wave the chute pin brassieres at Chris Orthodoxou. Belinda Bull with a 0.0028 RT and up to #2 at -0.4142, in the other lane his first 200+ mph run for Chris at 204.37. Good launch for Tim Mugridge, 1.1659 to sixty, out of shape towards the eighth and backed out of it.

Squeaker -0.0088 RT for Jordan Payne in the first pair. Similar story for Kaitlan Deevey next pair, -0.0055. That is how hard the Juniors try, including Frankie Fordham two pairs later at -0.0074. Joe Holland-Villa up from #6 to #4 at 0.0042. That was five Juniors in the 0.00s. Next pair and identical 0.0651 RTs for Lottie Bradford and Daniel Weir. Harley Coulsell up from #21 to #18 at 0.0718. Lukas Schmidt in the 11.90 limit Junior Stock Dragster clocked 11.4411, not sure we will see him again this weekend. Jacqueline Bartlett and Liam McDonald side by side up the ladder from #24 to #14 at 0.0421 and #22 to #12 at 0.0249 respectively. Squeaker -0.0030 for Katie Ellis to close the session.

Gearhead Garage Super Pro ET qualifying session 4

On the re-start almost identical 0.1024 to 0.1026 RTs for Ian Powell and Austin Jaques. Next pair and a 0.0038 RT for Laura Turburville, taking up on the good numbers where she left off yesterday. Next pair and a great +0.0062 for Dave Russell, good for a move from #37 to #6. In the other lane Scott Crookston's Outlaw Anglia didn't move, safety crew ran with fire extinguisher so I guess a carb cough. Colin Millar up from #27 to #6 at +0.0065. Big breakout and then some for Daniel Giles, 7.3287 on 7.50. Good to see Marc Henney back after what looked like weekend-ending problems yesterday but smoke from the eighth getting thicker all the way down the shutdown area. Up from #33 to #23, meanwhile track checked and all OK so hopefully no problems. Next pair and Eric Angeloni didn't move on the green, a quick look inside the scoop and then pushed back and returned to the pits. Long way round for Mick Howling, the car weaving left and right, Mick had it covered though. Squeaker -0.0016 RT for Dave Evans, forever doing it for Ed. 6.6775/211.76 for John Gerritsen, moving around the lane but hung on to it. Somewhat accelerated 8.35 dial-in for Bob Doyle, up from #33 to #28. At that point +0.0671 bought you #26 in the 32-car field. 0.0017 breakout for Paul Brown next pair, 0.0030 for Al Didwell in the pair after that. Wayne Jackson was up here in the office a short while ago collecting Brad's Eurodragster.com / Bad Habit Racing Perfect Light Award, in the course of the conversation he mentioned that the data told him to dial 7.73 for the Lucas Oil-sponsored dragster but that he was inclined to dial 7.71. Dialled 7.71 and Brad promptly went +0.0048 good for a move from #18 to #5. That, folks, is why I leave it to the clever people like Wayne to do that stuff. Next pair and Bernard Saz' Hotroen didn't move at the hit, got it in gear and off he went, out of shape so backed off, hit the gas again. Nice 0.0075 RT for Billy Everitt, took a look at the wall but as befits a son of John Everitt had it covered and stayed on the gas. Final run of the session and Scott Hauser's dragster made a move for the centre line at the eighth, shut it off. Track check ensued and tractors called to sled the surface.

Modurstang Pro ET qualifying session 4

First run of the event for Geoff Cowley, big breakout but a time on the board. Arnold Hol shut off for a fluid leak before staging. Fluid leak and pushback for Andy Thetford. Mark Bailey up to #18 from #25 backing off early and back "down" into the nines, nice job Mark. Paul Brown up from #19 to #7 at +0.0096. Great to see Jan Scheppers back after the yoke failure yesterday, in at #35 but ti's fixed now and he can worry about the dial-in next session. Eurodragster.com Perfect Light Award sponsor Tig Napier back after problems yesterday, up from #40 to #33 but similar to Jan he now has something with which to work. Karen Stevens the next to return after problems yesterday. Jon Turner up from #31 to #16, away from the danger zone at +0.0292. Eighteen breakouts in ths session, +0.0964 gets you #31 right now.

08:30

Good morning and welcome from Santa Pod Raceway for our coverage of the FIA / FIM Main Event brought to you in association with John Woolfe Racing.

Today's plan is for a frequently-updated report and results on qualifying, pit notes from Simon, and a photo gallery at the end of the day courtesy of Julian, Diana and Thaliah.

No webcast from us today; Santa Pod Raceway are running their own Web TV for the rest of the weekend courtesy of Barney and the guys at Box Lane TV. You will be able to tune in at www.facebook.com/santapodraceway. WRT to yesterday, please note that Eurodragster.com are guests here and that like any good guest we do what we are asked.

It started out quite misty here at Santa Pod, but dry and mild with a very gentle tail breeze. When I got out of bed this morning (a few short hours after I got into that bed) I could not see the gantry, and let's not forget that my accommodation is near scrutineering. It is clearing rapidly, though: right now I can see the end of the track from our office.

A big Good Morning to all the Eurodragsterholics out there; the usual greetings to Kai Plathan and the faithful Otto in Finland and Ivar Kolberg in Norway. A big Hello also to our good buddy Barry Bohannon who won yesterday's Put-Down of the Day award. Hello also to another good buddy Andy Marrs, with added thanks for proof-reading.

We are due to start at 09:30 with Sportsman Q4; Pro sessions are scheduled for 10:30 and 14:30. Stay tuned and get your Refresh-button finger limbered up... as ever I plan to post between each pair but it is not always possible. Also as ever, though, I will do my best.

Between now and 09:30 why not check out the report and another huge gallery from yesterday's Sportsman qualifying. Don't forget that you can tune in to Nitro FM at www.eurodragster.com/nitrofm.
