Lucas Oil Junior Dragster qualifying session 3

Harley-Jay Darby up from #19 to #16 at 0.0854. Next pair and Archie Wray up to #3 from #22 at 0.0043, #15 to #12 for Holley Marshall in the other lane. 0.0713 good for a move from #22 to #14 for Harry Redshaw. 0.0018 for Jack Gooding moved him up from #15 to #1, all going right for Team Extreme today.

Martin Smith and Team Extreme get the handle on the launch and voom! Into the sevens, well done guys! Congratulations also to Graham Smith on a perfect 0.0006 RT, ncie one Graham. Nick Hale briefly lost fire after his burnout, quick restart and an improvement but stayed #4. Oly Whitehouse under the class cut-off so into the ladder, well done Oly!

Next pair and Ben Bridges pushed back from the bleach box. 0.0095 RT for Stu Doignie and up to #4, in the other lane a much straighter run for Martin Curbishley, an 8.8814 breakout in the Fix Auto Penzance-sponsored dragster but that's what you get for not taking the long way round this time.

Second pair and John Przybyl up from #19 to #2 at +0.0042. Oliver Petzold and Dave Evans side-by-side up the ladder #19 to #11 and #21 to #5 at +0.0078, chute for the webcam into the bargain. Next pair and Ian Powell up from #19 to #11 at +0.0218, no chute for that one though. Birthday girl Laura Turburville up the ladder again, #6 to #1 at +0.0015. Sylvain Nowak with a breakout 8.4953 on an 8.60 but very happy crew, I am guessing a PB, if so then formidable, Sylvain! Billy Everitt shut off on return from his burnout, Brian Pateman took the bye and moved up from #13 to #8 at +0.0123. Then went on hold for a track check. On the restart Pel Norman up from #11 to #2 at +0.0026. Next pair and a Perfect Light for Joe Kellett, 0.0007, well done Leah! 0.0018 RT for Bob Doyle a couple of pairs later. Great run for John Gerritsen, 6.55 dial-in but I am guessing a PB of 6.6698/202.36 and just as importantly a nice straight pass and didn't need to put the chute out until the appointed place. Well done John and team! Session closed by Aaron Fensome in the blown-alcohol dragster, 0.0088 RT and 7.1987 on 7.00 dial-in, shut off just before the stripe so more in there. Fuel Funny Car licencing

First outing in Fuel FC for Kevin Chapman who as you will remember earned a Top Fuel Dragster licence last season. US tuner John Smith supervising and UK Fuel FC legend John Spuffard on hand. Motor didn't want to light first time, the usual anti-hydraulic work then fired up for the second time of asking. Nice burnout then work on the idle after returning. I can't say I heard the second fuel pump go in, on the green the car idled down the track, 16.8318/66.67. Pretty much a carbon copy of Gary Page's first run in the Panic FC last year. Either way Kevin has a feel for the tight confines of a Funny Car, I would imagine it felt a bit different to the Top Fueller.

Nice opener for Chris Orthodoxou still developing the blown-alcohol Pro Mod, shut it off at about helf track. Similarly good to see Belinda Bull and Tim Mugridge back. Belinda's pick-up commendably out of shape in the burnout, looked like she was trying to slap starter Dave Warren on the thigh. Shake for Belinda but got through it, huge shake, zinging motor and flames from the exhausts for Tim, backed out of it. The usual great burnout for Robin Orthodoxou, in the other lane Andy Hone into #1.

Great opener for Nigel Hale, PB territory I think. First SE outing for Adam Charnley in his Crossfire which he usually campaigns in Hutchinson & Dibley Sportsman ET, easily below the class cut-off. Next pair and Carl Goldsmith shut off and pulled over to the guardrail just after the eighth, clean-up called.
On the restart squealing tyres for Martin Smith in the big Bentley, pedalled and back on it but time lost to the tyre spin. Eagerly awaiting the nitrous purge for Martin Smith but not this time I think. Oly Whitehouse here testing yesterday, now in SE competition for the first time. Under power to 100 feet or so then took it relatively gently.

Great to see Ian Powell back after his season out. A big Happy Birthday for today to Laura Turburville who ran in the second pair. Joe Kellett in the other lane in at #1 at that point +0.0375. John Gerritsen out of shape at half track, off the gas and chutes out. Big break-out for Mark Flavell but a PB for the Funny Car, 6.7729/198.96, well done Flav and team! Great run for Nick Good, +0.0060, close to the Eurodragster.com / Vitesse Labelling Products Perfect ET Award. Great 0.0067 RT for Scott Crookston and +0.0565, let's not forget Scott usually runs in a heads-up class. Bernard Saz close to the wall approaching the eighth, pedalled and pulled it away but not far away. Aaron Fensome closed the session with a final licencing pass in the blown-alcohol dragster, usual last-run principle that if this pass was good then it would count for qualifying. Sounded to run out of gears at the eighth, a few pedals and off the gas.

First to leave the line at the FIA/FIM Main Event was... hmm, no RTs came up on the timing console. Second pair no times or speeds. Squeaker -0.0003 for David Smith, a fag paper off the Eurodragster.com / Bad Habit Racing Perfect Light Award only a few pairs in. Next pair and Keith Herbert had a go at the same award with a 0.0080 RT. Perfect ET Award sponsor Al Platt in at #1 at that point, +0.0286. Screaming motor and bits emerged from under Jan Scheppers' Mustang, broken yoke. Steve Hudson headed for the Tree at the hit, missed the Tree but went into the blue refuge, it was a close thing. Will Clark in at #2 +0.0401 at that point. Squeaker -0.0013 RT for Mike Lacey. Sean Law's dragster weaving left and right, looked to be getting close to a pendulum but he held on to it. Crew took a good look at the lane in case of fluid. Grumbly-sounding engine for Perfect Light Award sponsor Tig Napier, backed off at the eighth. Karen Stevens' Vega looks great in its new lighter blue, another candidate for Best Appearing Car and it's only May. -0.0004 RT for Harrison Brown, close but no £75.

Good morning and welcome from Santa Pod Raceway for our coverage of the FIA / FIM Main Event brought to you in association with John Woolfe Racing.
Today's plan is for a frequently-updated report and results on qualifying, pit notes from Simon, and a photo gallery at the end of the day courtesy of Julian, Diana and Thaliah. The Webster Race Engineering / Nimbus Motorsport webcam will be on-line broadcasting live video and trackside audio so long as the track is open.
Please note that "So long as the track is open". Right now we have a damp track as it is raining but the radar currently shows a clear end to it and as you know we have an awesome track crew here. Obviously we will get the webcast up and running in plenty of time so you won't miss anything. Have we ever let you down?
In the meantime why check out the report and huge gallery from yesterday's Pro Peak Performance Test and Tune Day. It got really busy - believe me it was good fun writing a live report and running the webcast at the same time - and there were some outstanding performances.
