Paul Marston went back to the pits, Dave Cherrett took a bye out of competition. 18:30 Topspeed Automotive Street Eliminator qualifying session 6 10.6799 for Nigel Hale, consistent with the last session. A couple of big wheelies for Al Williamson, the second dug a hole in the track, Al got off the gas... probably just as well since Anthony Wilkins' Morris Woody crossed lanes just before the finish line. Everyone OK, hopefully vehicles too.

17:10 Sorry for the few minutes' break in webcast service again, not entirely sure what happened there as I had my head down doing the race report... ah, and here's Julian of Nitro FM come to tell me that it was a cable issue connected (or not) to the UPS. All OK now sez Julian and we're fair set until the end of the day. It is at times like this that heart medication which turns you into a zombie can be a good thing. Gearhead Garage UK Super Pro ET qualifying session 5 Nice 0.0075 RT for Brad Jackson in the second pair. The first pair were entered as Pro ET so that will take some unlacing, luckily not my hjob. Sam Young and Joe Kellett next up, all eyes on Sam after his wayward pass earlier. l the Beetle started to move around the lane again, not so bad that Sam couldn't cover it and a much improved 9.9526/130.51. Old school v state of the art two pairs later, Steve Johnson in the Nostalgia slingshot and Mick Howling in PMR's four-link dragster. Better launch for Steve this time, on the power most of the way although sounded to be misfiring. Compared to what was happening earlier a mere bagatelle for someone of Steve's knowledge I'd imagine. Great launch for John Gerritsen then the Chevy started to move around and sounded to have some kind of transmission problem. John was off the gas and the top end cams showed him braking very hard to make the emergency exit by scrutineering. Two pairs later Thomas Haas up from #22 to #7 and Wouter van Leersum up from #23 to #9. Two pairs later and Scott Crookston moved up from #24 to #19 and Steve Saunders up from #36 to #25. Scott Hauser up from #11 to #3 at +0.0107, in the other lane Ashley Bell sullied the new white lines on a fair attempt to take the Tree with him.

15:25 Modurstang Pro ET qualifying session 4 Back to single-lane running for the time being. Third run of the session and Rick McCann's Camaro started to drift towards the centre line, shut it off about 300 feet out. Next run and drama as Tony Harter's Mustang took a left turn right by the first eighth-mile reflector, rear left side of the car climbed up on the guardrail and then the car headed for the other side of the track. Tony tried hard to stop the car but it just nosed into the right side guardrail. Safety crews moved instantly, sometimes I think they have a wormhole they activate to get to an incident so quickly. Tony got himself out of the car and is OK. Move to the right at launch for Geoff Cowley, backed out of it, plenty more sessions left to climb further up the ladder. Mark Bailey, 8.8470, you know how it goes. Karen Stevens' Lass Vega looked and sounded to be labouring but the motor recently had to be rebuilt so maybe taking it easy. Big move for Keith Hertbert, #12 to #4 at +0.0140. Next pair and a real squeaker of an RT for Simon Innes, -0.0002. Next pair and all but the same thing for Will Clark, -0.0004. No doubt these guys are trying their level best.

12:35 Comp Eliminator qualifying session 2 Improvement for Dave Nicol in the first run of the session but stayed #6. Much more reserved burnout for Robin Orthodoxou this time. In the other lane Andy Hone's motor sounded to misfire in the burnout, shut off and pushed back. Another 7.05 for Robin, 7.0577 this time, stayed #2. next pair and no reverse for Robin Sattler, pushed back to the start line for his run. Great pass for Guido, into the sevens and more in there as the Manta went the long way round, the chute came off the car as it deployed. Got it stopped no problem though.

In the other lane though Ian Powell took over #1 at +0.0260. 0.0067 breakout for Chris Parker, in the other lane -0.0065 RT for Gordon Northway but in at #2 +0.0316. next pair and Brian Pateman up from #27 to #11. #10 to #1 for Simon Gough, +0.0146. next pair and John Przybyl moved up from #28 to #4 at +0.0341. Robin Orthodoxou rolled to 1000 feet after his burnout, Guido having waited a while was sent on a bye. Great checkout for Guido, off the throttle briefly as the car went for the centre line. First outing of the season for Gary Gooding, nice-looking pass but smoke in the shutdown area. Track checked and all OK. Easy pass for Andy Bond, data collection run I'd guess.

First competitive outing of 2017 for Ian Powell, he was here testing yesterday and all looked good from here. Also good to see Nick Good on one of his occasional outings in the blown-alcohol dragster, into #1 at that point at +0.0403, in the other lane a breakout for Mick Howling in the PMR dragster. First competitive outing for Steve Johnson in the ex-Jon Webster Nostalgia slingshot. Wheelie and tyre shake, motor cut out when the front wheels came down. In the other lane a welcome return for Ashley Bell and into #2 +0.0478. Big burnout by Johan Oomen but stopped so suddenly that the back-up girl almost tripped over the car. Pushed back and Austin Jaques took the bye into #17 with an easy-looking pass. Two ex-Pro Mods next up, John Gerritsen and Ian Brown, #17 and #10 respectively, John put out his chutes at about 1000 feet. Steve Saunders shut off for a fluid leak, in the other lane Scott Hauser took the bye and into #2 at +0.0417.

Steve Unsworth pushed back for a fluid leak in the second pair. 0.0031 RT for Geoff Cowley in the third pair, close to the Eurodragster.com / Bad Habit Racing Perfect Light Award. On which subject Award sponsor Cath Napier thinks that the Perfect Light money won't last the day, Your Reporter thinks it won't last to lunchtime, let's see who gets that one right. Brief clean-up in Geoff's lane. Great run off the trailer for Gino Bernadine, +0.0372 to take #1 spot at that point... until the next pair when BobMolden took it over at +0.0167. Some smoke from Jon Turner's motor in the second half but all OK by the look of things. Good to see Jan Scheppers here, one of several very welcome guests from The Netherlands. Squeaker -0.0024 RT for Jan. First competitive outing for James Oliver, successful testing yesterday. +0.0957 on dial-in, good for #8 at that point. Lots of white stuff flying around in James' lane at about 1000 feet, maybe a tyre label or maybe James hit a pigeon. In the other lane Lee Huxley took over #1 at +0.0154. +0.0088 RT for Mark Bailey, taking a tilt at the Perfect Light money. Good to see Eurodragster.com sponsor Steve Hudson back on track, but of a breakout at 8.9708 on a 9.23 dial-in.

Alternately if you don't fancy all the sodding around then you can use another Browser. It's a beautiful day here at Santa Pod. Not a cloud in the sky, a gentle breeze, already warm. The track crew are already out there doing some scraping just by the eighth.
