Super Pro ET racer Pel Norman had entered Comp Eliminator but had to change categories. He said 'Our large 632ci engine and light weight means that we would have been in AA/A with an index of 7.56, but the chassis is not all chrome moly and so is tagged to 7.5s so we couldn't race competitively in Comp. We moved to Super Pro and ran a PB of 7.71 yesterday morning'. Pel and team are hoping to do another international trip in 2018, possibly to Malta via Rivanazzano in Italy.

Comp Eliminator racer from Switzerland René Meierhofer's partner Marlen Hurter was kind enough to alert us to René's racing life in the US. He said 'I spent six weeks over there in 2016 and eight weeks in 2017 and am based at Vero Beach which is an hour's drive from tracks at West Palm Beach and Orlando. I race on a lot of tracks in the area and one of my favourites is Immokolee. The car I have over there is a Dodge Dart with a Jerry Bickel chassis, the same as my Beretta with a bigger engine that I bracket race. I race mainly in the US and only do three races in Europe'. Thomas who started racing thirty years ago, crewed for Bruno Bader and is head of the GoldenVette Club, works with engine builder Thomas Engelage.

Super Comp racer Paul Hudson, joined by crew Jordan and Conor, had a problem when checking the valve lash revealed a broken valve spring. He said 'Thanks to all those who helped us repair it including Billy Gane for lending us a head spring tool, Werner Zudrell for retapping the threads on it, Paul Marston for giving us a new spring free of charge, and Bob Doignie for putting the new spring in. We found what was wrong and clicked it at 1000ft giving us a 8.97.' Paul had another problem when the fan cowling came off and smashed into the wall. 'We have improvised a replacement fan and could say we are in R&D mode'.

Super Comp and Super Gas racer Dave Day is out of the event following transmission damage. 'The ring gear on the diff broke which caused the propshaft to break which broke the rear of the gearbox. Part of the diff cover came off on the track and I sidelined the car. My son and crew Elliott was upset because of me sidelining the car and the red transmission fluid. But I'm fine, it's only metal, it hasn't happened at all to us in all the years we've been racing.

Topspeed Automotive Street Eliminator racer Antony 'Butch' Wilkins is developing his new Morris Minor Traveller and daughter Chloe will be joining Sportsman ET at the National Finals in a Suzuki. I need it to be 30mph faster and a couple of seconds off the ET'. Antony's engine was built by a friend Kim. It is a BBC with a 4/20 Megablower by B&M on low boost and two 850cfm double pumper carbs. He said 'I am possibly the quickest car using these tyres which were designed for street use with more tread than some of the drag radials which after litigation in the US, are now only for strip use. I have used these since the start of the season and am getting the most out of them. It's meant a lot of changes to the setup, with a more agressive launch'. Mark is also looking to the championship which he is leading Al Williamson by 840 points and could wrap it up this event.

Topspeed Automotive Street Eliminator racer Rob Slater has been following the sport since the 1980s, has been attending rwybs for twenty years and had his '57 Chevy for thirteen years. 'I wanted to step up and was inspired by Street Eliminator and so pushed to enter. I have developed the car for the last ten years with upgrades and had the chassis tagged to 8.5s at Hausers three years ago and then installed the twin turbos. Trevor Hirst from Doncaster helped me with the short motor and heads, I got the turbos from Mark Todd and did a lot of the other fabrication myself including the headers and throttle body. I am currently using a XFI2 engine management system but am looking at Fueltech for the future. My PB so far is 9.1, but my first pass was a brake test as they failed at Shakey six weeks ago and the car went into the field'. Rob thanks his wife Trudy and ex Outlaw Anglia racer John Davies for their help and support.

Lucas Oil Junior Dragster racer Jordan Payne had a successful final qualifying session when a 0.008 RT gave him sixth position. He said 'The car has been running very consistently and in five passes I ran three 8.12s, an 8.14 and 8.15. It's important in qualifying to get consistent ETs which will help in eliminations'.
