17:55 Topspeed Automotive Street Eliminator qualifying session 5 Improvement for Dave Murdoch in the first pair but stayed #6. New PB for Martin Smith, well done Martin and Team Extreme! In the other lane Nick Hales' Mercedes didn't move on the green. Whatever ailed the Merc quickly sorted as Nick stayed on the start line and went up against Nigel Hale, slight improvement for Nick but stayed in place and smoke from one bank. Andy Marrs has crunched the numbers and the match between Mark Todd v Martin Smith earlier was the second quickest side-by-side in Street Eliminator history. Mark Todd was also involved in the quickest side-by-side which was his 7.2434 to Steve Neimantas' 7.3293 at the 2015 UK National Finals. Thank you Marrs!

17:35 Super Comp qualifying session 5 Before this session a break for clean-up in the right lane. Paul Brown up from #8 to #7 first pair. Third pair and Pete Creswell sounded to have problems burning out (can't see through the floor here) but fine at the second attempt then made up for it with another 8.905, this time with an additional 5 in the fourth decimal place.

17:10 Super Pro ET qualifying session 5 Craig Wright up from #22 to #15 at +0.0287 in the second pair. Next pair and Eurodragster.com sponsor Pete Walters shut off after his burnout. Mark Flavell took the bye, drove through the bounce but on the second shift the motor groaned and Flav shut it off. Wheels up and shake for Johan Oomen, Viper headed for the guardrail and he shut it off. Nice run for Dave Evans until about 1000 feet then smoke from the pipes and the big Impala started to move around, Dave shut off a touch early and put out the chute but still an 8.8022 on 7.9 dial-in. Track carefully checked and all OK, meanwhile a Billys-and-mop clean-up and a sled on the start line in the other lane. Barry Giles going great guns in the S+K Racing dragster but then it started to move around at the eighth and he backed out of it. I would have suggested the crosswind but unnoticed by Your Reporter the wind has moved round since this morning and is now head-on. Marc Henney up from #16 to #12 +0.0075, that's twelve racers +0.00 on day one and everyone down to #24 on +0.0, man I love Super Pro ET. #21 to #15 for Chris Parker at +0.0206. 0.0091 RT for Ian Brown and +0.0087 for Nick Good but stayed #9 with his previous best of +0.0070. Next pair and Dave Townsend lost drive a few feet out, made it to the other end though.

An aberration I'm sure. Nicky Frost's Camaro jumped in the air on launch, I think all four were off there for a moment. Looked like transmission problems for Paul Letchford, the roadster moved a few feet then stopped dead with the motor groaning, engaged gear eventually. Colin Morrice up from #9 to #4 next pair. Bullet dodged for Mort as the Camaro rocked in and out of deep stage, luckily before the Tree ran. Slight breakout ensued. Final run of the session, first competitive pass for newly-licenced Tyler Ashdown. Nice 0.0643 RT and 9.1049/145.32 good for #10.

Nick Good Motorsport team-mates Chris Parker and Brad Jackson side-by-side from #30 to #6 and #20 to #15 respectively. Improvement for Scott Hauser +0.0022 retained his #2 spot. A run for Barnard Saz will give us a 32-car field... great run! +0.0284 good for #3. Terminal speed showed as 253.64 mph, I'm sure he'd be pleased with that but he would have stopped somewhere in Milton Keynes had that been correct. Next pair and Nick Good up from #18 to #3 +0.0070. Johan Oomen and Lee Huxley gave us a 34-car field, in at #28 and #24 respectively. Johan stopped on the shutdown area and Thomas Haas and Billy Gane shut off on the start line for retrieval. On the retsart Thomas up from #26 to #16 at +0.0856.Last pair and hideous tyre shake for Dave Townsend, in the other lane Ian Brown having had his upgraded licence signed off in the last session went +0.0026 on dial-in for #3 spot. Well done Ian and team! Bernard Saz' 7.1684 run subsquently removed from the ladder as the timing crew considered that terminal speed indicated a premature clock stop.

11:40 Lucas Oil Junior Dragster qualifying session 1 Perfect 0.0006 RT by Roman Sixta Jr in the first pair put him #1 and won him the Eurodragster.com / Bad Habit Racing Perfect Light Award, well done Roman! Good to see Paige Wheeler back out on the track, last or penultimate outing in Junior Dragster I think, squeaker -0.0042 red. After five pairs every racer was in the 0.0s and that, my friends, is why Your Reporter always relishes Junior Dragster qualifying. Swap of cars for Shannon Kiddell, now in the former Giles family dragster, Daniel Giles crewing on a car he used to drive back in the days when he was shorter than me (although that was only a few days). Casper Ljungdahl a very welcome visitor from Sweden, 0.0737 great for a first shot at Santa Pod. The Comet launched particularly strongly. PB for Gary Gooding to take #1 spot, in the other lane Davey Murdoch here after buffing out the scrapes on his Willys caused by the car tipping over at a demo. Fantastic pass for Martin Smith in the Bentley! New PB judging by the team's reaction, well done Martin! real good to see Mark Todd back in competition with the big GTO. It was like he was never away, in to #1 spot. Ben Barnwell closed out the session in the Team Extreme Escort, 8.5662/155.78 PB, well done Ben! Huge cloud of smoke from the motor in the second half. Track check ensued and clean-up called at the top end.

Super Pro ET qualifying session 1 Tom Atkinson first in the queue, this must be Super Pro ET. Good to see new boy Austin Jacques in his Capri, 8.8745 on 8.76 dial-in. 7.7640 on 8.20 breakout for Laura Turburville, that combination of mystified and happy on the team's faces. Rare and welcome National Championship outing for Dave Townsend, 7.6447 on 7.50 to open his account. In the other lane a quick clean-up, fluid from Gordon Northway's big pick-up. On the restart a storming wheels-up launch from Nick Good in his blown-alcohol dragster, never get tired of seeing those launches. Next pair and Bernard Saz shut off after the burnout for a fluid leak, I think fuel as it evaporated very quickly. 0.0086 RT by Rainier van Schelt, close to the Eurodragster.com / Bad Habit Racing Perfect Light Award. Barry Giles in competition this weekend in the S+K Racing dragster whilst son Daniel drives the Giles and Hartley car. Daniel already run and #5, could Barry outqualify him? Not on this run, #22 but that looked like a ranging pass to me and full-bore next time. I think final licencing pass for Ian Brown in the Thatadoo Camaro, 8.99 dial-in, 8.5267 break-out, but all good and a thumbs-up from Ian Marshall.

07:25 Good morning and welcome from Santa Pod to our coverage of the FIA / FIM European Finals brought to you in association with John Woolfe Racing. The Webster Race Engineering / Nimbus Motorsport webcast will start shortly before qualifying commences (scheduled for 09:30) and will continue so long as the track is open. It is a beautiful day here at Santa Pod. Lovely sunrise and very little cloud, and mild. The track crew are currently sledding the track after scraping the surface from 250 feet to to 330 feet last night. The reporting plan for today is the full service of live report, pit notes and end-day gallery. Whilst you are waiting for today's action to start you could check out the report and gallery from yesterday's Pro Peak Performance Test and Tune Day, available via the Event Index. It was an enjoyable day, one of the themes being "Just how quick can Jens Eklund go?", the answer being 7.282 seconds. Also of note was the performance of the Giles and Hartley Super Pro ET team, with Daniel Giles driving the dragster this weekend, whose six runs were all in the 7.3s and had a spread of 0.030 seconds. These guys have not previously been UK National Champions for nothing but that kind of performance still impresses Your Reporter.
