Super Pro ET eliminations round 1

Peter Lane's first race with his new car and takes the round win. More than perfect ET for Joe Kellett in his win against Rene Meierhofer, 7.9000 on a 7.90 dial-in. Well done Joe and team! Jet Dragster pilot in waiting Brad Jackson not far behind +0.0043 on dial-in in his race against Mick Howling and Rod Harrison +0.0079 in his bye. Looked like sparks or a fire for Mark Adams in the shutdown area in his race against Ian Powell. Mark's rail crossed lanes in front of Ian Powell but from here it looked he kept a hold of it and got it back to his side. It transpires that one of the front wheels departed the dragster past the finish line and at time of writing the wheel is nowhere to be found. Given that, it must have been some driving job by Mark as that incident could have turned out a lot worse. Yet another perfect ET, this time by Paul Przybyl in his race against Barry Giles, +0.0003 in dial-in, well done Paul! However Barry won the race on a better RT. William van Baalen won his first race after licencing on Thursday.

1.2151 sixty for Jemma Venables which is the quickest SSB sixty foot time I have ever seen. Another new European ET record for Dave Holland, 7.068, congratulations Dutch! One doesn't wish to plant ideas but that run would back up a 6.998.

FIM Europe Top Fuel Bike qualifying session 4 (left lane first)

Oto Knebl 8.3360/135.67 bye; Nick Milburn shut off, Steve Woollatt 6.6025/197.97 bye; Filippos Papfilippou 6.7629/202.57, Rikard Gustafsson 6.3880/215.84

1.1211 to sixty for Otto but was already leaning the bike right to counter its desire to go left. Eventually had to feather the throttle for a couple of seconds, 4.9529/115.83 at the eighth, back on the gas but then shut off altogether by 1000 feet. Nick's motor was misfiring in the burnout and he shut off before staging. Steve's bike sounded lazy on the launch but picked up quickly, 1.1438 to sixty, 4.3299/176.44 at the eighth and up to third. Excellent match between Fil and Rikard, Fil was not hanging around but Rikard whupped him. 0.0900 to 0.0923 RT advantage in Rikard's favour, 1.0708 sixty to Fil's 1.0982, 4.1542/17.76 at the eighth to Fil's 4.3888/168.34.

FIM Europe Supertwin qualifying session 4 (left lane first)

Job Heezen 7.3978/202.55 bye;

Much better run for Job and his first baseline pass of the weekend I'd say. 1.2437 to sixty, 4.9619/156.29 at the eighth, pretty much sraight down the middle of his lane.

Final qualifying:

  1. Martijn de Haas 6.7358/208.04
  2. Job Heezen 7.3978/202.55
  3. Ronny Aasen 11.2039/74.53

FIM Europe Pro Stock Bike qualifying session 4 (left lane first)

Martin Newbury 8.4142/108.31 bye; Allan Davies shut off, Ray Debben 14.8480/49.93 bye; Len Paget shut off, Alex Hope 7.2987/181.40 bye; Martin Bishop 7.8821/153.16, Kenneth Holmberg 7.6392/184.32; Fredrik Fredlund 7.0853/185.12, Karl-Heinz Weikum 7.2415/185.82

Eurodragster.com sponsor Martin out of the ladder going into this session. And going out of it but first alternate so a possible way back. 1.1426 to sixty, 4.7999/143.90 at the eighth but got very close to the guardrail and shut off in the second half. Allan shut off after his burnout. Ray took the bye, 1.2119 to sixty but headed for the centre line so shut it off. Len shut off before staging. Great run for Alex! 1.1131 to sixty, 4.6339/150.11 at the eighth, straight down the middle of the lane and back into the 7.2s. Improvement but stayed fifth. Similar run for Kenneth to the last round, the front end and motor note going up and down for the first thirty feet or so but then the bike settled down and really powered on. Martin's bike was approaching the centre line in the second half, shut it off a touch early. Consistent run for Fredde, Karl-Heinz off his previous pace. Lost the incrementals of the last two pairs but will retrieve them from the timing database at the end of today.

Simon has posted his second set of pit notes, which you can check out via the Event Index.

The Fuel FCs were in the pairing lanes and ready to go but then went back to the pits, no word why.

FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 4 (left lane first)

Tethys shut off (bye); Micke Kågered 5.3761/132.07 bye; Liam Jones 9.9365/60.78, Jari Halinen 4.1325/295.85; Stig Neergaard 6.9796/81.68, Anita Mäkelä no time

Tet shut down on his return from his burnout, not obvious from here what the problem was; the motor didn't want to stop that's for sure. Looked like a planned early shut-off for Micke. 0.8621 to sixty, not much in the way of shake, 2.2423 to 330 feet and off the gas before the eighth 3.6943/147.56. Nice paired burnout by The Bomber and Jari, our office in Race Control pretty much saturated with nitro fumes into the bargain. 0.9146 to sixty for Liam and 0.8885 for Jari, Liam with shake and smoke and off it before 330 feet. Chute out past the eighth. 2.3132 to 330 feet for Jari, 3.3103/255.70 at the eighth, his header flames becoming more opaque orange but he got to the thousand before anything untoward happened. Jari up to fifth and will be seeing Liam again in tomorrow's E1. Anita's motor cut our pretty much at the hit and something came off the car. Pulled over and stopped at the eighth. 0.8608 to sixty for Stig and then appalling shake and shut off.

Tet subsequently got in touch to let us know that he was shut off for a fuel leak.

Final qualifying:

  1. Anita Mäkelä 3.9607/301.78
  2. Stig Neergaard 4.0449/293.96
  3. Duncan Micallef 4.0952/262.46
  4. Liam Jones 4.1146/291.41
  5. Jari Halinen 4.1325/295.85
  6. Micke Kågered 4.1373/244.64
  7. Birgitte Bremnes 4.2323/246.55
  8. Tethys 4.9362/154.72

FIA Pro Stock qualifying session 4 (left lane first)

Simon Gustafsson 6.7416/204.30 bye; Michael Malmgren no time, Magnus Pettersson 6.6681/208.03; Jimmy Ålund 6.5620/212.09, Thomas Lindström 6.6351/208.96

Clean-up of Norbert's leakage complete Simon opened the session with his bye. Nice run! 1.0027 to sixty, the Avenger made a move to the right but Simon held on to it. 4.3338/163.13 at the eighth. A new PB for Simon, well done Simon and the Samantha Racing team! Instant tyre spin at the hit for Michael, shut off about twenty feet out. 0.9924 to sixty for Magnus, 4.2900/164.57 at the eighth, improvement but stayed #3. Both Jimmy's and Thomas' crew pushed their respective cars round rather than the cars starting in the lanes and then driving round. Thomas strapped a visible 0.0327 to 0.1185 holeshot on Jimmy and had had the better sixty 0.9780 to Jimmy's 0.9843, then Thomas' car started to move towards the centre line but he stayed with it losing time however. Jimmy with the better eighth 4.2307/167.80 to Thomas' 4.2726/165.17, Thomas there first by 0.0127 by dint of the holeshot.

Final qualifying:

  1. Jimmy Ålund 6.5278/212.90
  2. Thomas Lindström 6.6083/208.18
  3. Magnus Pettersson 6.6681/208.03
  4. Michael Malmgren 6.6967/205.15
  5. Simon Gustafsson 6.7416/204.30

18:20

FIA Pro Modified qualifying session 4 (left lane first)

Peter Wacker 7.3572/193.85 bye; Andy Wright 8.4391/177.13 bye; Wayne Nicholson 7.7149/183.56 bye; Rick Garrett 6.3478/217.10, Chris Isaacs 11.7281/67.77; Tero Laukkanen 6.1550/248.22, Marco Maurischat 6.3098/221.23; Marcus Hilt 7.0386/204.42, Jean Dulamon 9.1120/101.44; David Vegter 6.2998/230.49, Andy Robinson 6.3667/213.83; Micke Gullqvist 5.8823/245.53, Roger Johansson 6.0007/231.21; Mats Eriksson no time DQ, Norbert Kuno 7.9056/127.68

Peter's last chance to get into the ladder. We were glad to see the promised return of the lithe crew girls. The car seemed to hesitate off the line, 1.2223 to sixty, sounded like a deliberately easy pass. 4.8277/155.21 at the eighth. Peter will be spectating tomorrow although as things stand he is first alternate. 1.0912 to sixty with shake for Andy W, then the Coupe's tyres started to smoke and the car did a hard left. Andy did a good job to keep it off the guardrail. Next up Wayne and his last chance to race tomorrow. Camp Stanley an interested spectator and then got involved in lining Wayne up. Very lazy launch, 1.2986 to sixty, motor sounded to be sturggling to pick the revs up. Off the gas for a second or two, 4.9419/138.23 at the eighth then stayed on the throttle most of the way. Kev Slyfield returned to the pits without running. Eurodragster.com sponsor Chris had no reverse, pushed back to the start line after the burnout... as the car is so quiet we thought Chris had shut off but no, he staged for his run. 1.0444 to sixty and then did shut it off soon after. Safely in the field for tomorrow though. 0.9793 to sixty for Rick, 4.0940/174.28 at the eighth. An improvement but stayed in place. Great pair of runs from Tero and Eurodragster.com sponsor Marco. 1.0355 sixty for Tero, 0.9911 for Marco, the Vette picked up and ran. 4.1504/188.79 at the eighth for Tero, 4.1008/176.17 for Marco. Tero put on 60 mph in the second half. Both Tero and Marco up the ladder. Very wayward burnout by Jean followed by a wayward run. Marcus to sixty in 1.0604 and Jean in 1.0295, Jean's Camaro spitting flame as usual and then starting to move left and right, a hard move to the left at which point Marcus pedalled for a second or so - from here difficult to say whether he pedalled because he saw Jean or because of shske. Shut off 4.8730/111.96 at the eighth for Jean, pedalling 4.5869/156.21 for Marcus. 0.9835 to sixty for Eurodragster.com sponsor Andy R, 1.0399 for David. Andy hit shake and the Camaro went for the centre line, Andy kept on the gas and stopped it crossing the line although he ran very close to the line for a few hundred feet after. 4/1507/180.48 o the eighth for David, 4.0495/178.89 for Andy. Andy looked to shut it off before the stripe. fantastic match-up between Micke and Roger, the cars looked glued together although the numbers don't support it. 0.9561 to sixty for Micke to 0.9710 for Roger, slight shake for Roger, storming eighth for Micke 3.8735/192.06 to Roger's nott-a-slouch 3.9374/188.62. Micke getting close to European record territory. Mats hammered the throttle as Norbert staged, tyres up in smoke and motor zinging into the bargain. 1.0151 to sixty for Norbert and then a carbon copy of his earlier run as the car started to move about and fluid appeared from beneath. Norbert shut off as the Avenger approached the guardrail.

Final qualifying:

  1. Micke Gullqvist 5.8823/245.53
  2. Mats Eriksson 5.9564/244.06
  3. Roger Johansson 6.0007/231.21
  4. Norbert Kuno 6.0938/231.39

FIA Top Methanol Funny Car qualifying session 4 (left lane first)

Jürgen Nagel 5.9904/239.04 bye; Steph Milam 6.4581/176.43, Leif Andréasson 9.2545/89.78

0.9670 to sixty for Jürgen, a brief pedal there and I mean brief - just barely noticeable. 3.9430/191.21 at the eighth. 0.9583 to sixty for Leif, shake marks in his lane, off the gas before the eighth 4,7564/110.81. 1.0980 to sixty for Steph, again the car looked to really get up and go 150 or so feet out. 4.0970/190.52 at the eighth and off the gas just after.

Final qualifying:

  1. Leif Andréasson 5.6988/246.73
  2. Steph Milam 5.9101/232.57
  3. Jürgen Nagel 5.9636/227.00

FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 4 (left lane first)

Dennis Habermann 5.4612/264.06 bye; Dave Wilson 14.1990/68.43 bye; Timo Habermann 5.3657/261.01 bye, Stefan Gunnarsson did not start

The Part-Time Photographers' Club reappear, look over my left shoulder and sure enough there are the Pros in the lanes. They peaked early though since Super Comp ran first. The front end of Dennis' dragster was in the air for about a hundred feet and was then skittering for another hundred or so. 0.9205 to sixty, shake and a pedal at about 200 feet, 3.5989/208.14 at the eighth. Again looked like consternation around the motor from Grumpy's crew before he ran. Tyres up in smoke at the hit, 1.1604 to sixty and off the gas, idled along the track. Stefan's crew made several attempts to start the dragster but it was not having any of it. Eventually they conceded defeat and Stefan climbed out of the car. Nice pass for Timo, quite consistent too. 0.8835 to sixty, shake nicely contained to the top of the tyres flapping. 3.4975/211.92 at the eighth.

Final qualifying:

  1. Timo Habermann 5.3321/262.68
  2. Dave Wilson 5.3918/261.14
  3. Dennis Habermann 5.4612/264.06
  4. Jonny Lagg 5.4863/249.59
  5. Stefan Gunnarsson 6.1673/202.42

Great paired burnout by Duncan and Micke made a lot of the VIPs on the balcony jump. Interestign pair of runs wth both motors looking like they wanted to go pop. Visible 0.1353 to 0.3193 holeshot for the Maltese Lion, Micke with the better sixty 0.8665 to Duncan's 0.9085, Duncan's motor was spitting orange flame as well as nitro flames. Duncan to the eighth in 3.2477/263.86 to Micke's 3.2415/257.20. Duncan's motor looked to quit just before the stripe, flash of flame from Micke's motor also and he was visibly slowing in the traps. Great match-up between Jari and Stig! Jari away first 0.1242 to 0.1604, Stig with the much better sixty 0.8666 to Jari's 0.9325 with a touch of shake. Stig visibly ahead by 330 feet 2.2454 to 2.3852 and pulling further away at the eighth 3.2228/258.68 to Jari's 3.4122/248.05. Jari put on a lot of speed between the eighth and the thousand. Birgitte's first Top Fuel pairing, Tethys away first 0.1861 to 0.3268 but Birgitte with the much better sixty 0.8812 to 0.9227. 2.2780 to 330 for Birgitte and 2.3304 for Tet. tet's tyres went up in smoke before the eighth and he shut it off 3.5453/186.23, Birgitte to the eighth in 3.3209/238.85 with smoke from her motor, off the gas before the stripe. Liam just away first 0.1434 to Anita's 0.1537, 0.8929 sixty to Anita's 0.8806. Liam's tyres went up in smoke before 330 feet and he shut off or was shut off as one of his chutes deployed so maybe the blower panel burst. Smoke from Anita's motor before the eighth 3.3594/199.64 off the gas by then, lots of smoke and then a fire on the right side as she passed under the gantry. Safety crews waited for Liam to get past and then chased after Anita but returned to station very quickly so hopefully all OK.

FIA Pro Stock qualifying session 3 (left lane first)

Michael Malmgren 6.7415/205.17 bye; Thomas Lindström 6.6502/201.69, Simon Gustafsson 13.5920/61.51; Magnus Pettersson 6.7549/195.54, Jimmy Ålund 6.5452/211.89

As you doubtless saw in Simon's pit notes, Michael and team had some work to do on his motor after a broken spark plug went for a walk. I don't know enough about Pro Stock motors to say whether the work effectively made it a new motor tuning-wise but this was a good bedding-in pass I'd say. 0.0731 RT, 1.0128 to sixty, car went for the centre line but Mihael stayed with it. 4.3387/162.99 at the eighth. Simon had his bell well rung by shake off the line, 1.0100 to sixty and a move to the left, shut it off. 0.9886 to sixty for Thomas, 4.2740/165.88 at the eighth, had the chutes out right on the stripe. 1.0079 to sixty for Magnus, 4.3480/162.94 at the eighth, off the gas and chutes out before the finish. 0.9763 stormer to sixty for Jimmy, then slight shake which he drove through, 4.2173/167.65 at the eighth.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Jimmy Ålund 6.5278/212.90
  2. Thomas Lindström 6.6083/208.18
  3. Magnus Pettersson 6.6728/205.33
  4. Michael Malmgren 6.6967/205.15
  5. Simon Gustafsson 6.8303/202.44

FIA Pro Modified qualifying session 3 (left lane first)

Micke Gullqvist 6.0481/239.88 bye; Wayne Nicholson 7.5436/185.89, Kev Slyfield 6.4038/221.14; Bruno Bader 6.1824/222.51, Peter Wacker 7.1740/192.13; Marco Maurischat 7.1468/152.09, Andy Wright 6.8379/204.29; Chris Isaacs 7.8959/125.14, Rick Garrett 6.3950/210.91; Tero Laukkanen 6.2585/241.10 bye; Jean Dulamon 6.3050/213.08 bye; Andy Robinson 6.2635/229.34, Marcus Hilt 6.3727/220.18; Roger Johansson 6.3128/224.74, David Vegter 13.7038/64.29; Norbert Kuno 8.9256/108.82, Mats Eriksson 6.2988/214.82

After problems yesterday Micke pulls out the big one. 0.9882 to sixty, car headed towards the centre line but Micke stayed with it. 3.9655/186.48 at the eighth and quite a hard move left again but Micke stayed on the gas. Up from #17 to #2 at that point. Happy Birthday to Kev and how about that for a present - a new PB, well done Kev! 1.0519 to sixty, 4.1884/221.14 at the eighth, nice straight pass and up to #10. Wayne looked to drive through shake, 1.2252 to sixty, off the gas before the eighth 4.8289/135.64. 1.0191 to sixty for Bruno, shake marks past the Tree. 1.0702 for Peter, no shake marks. Bruno's Vette made a move to the right about 300 feet out but he stayed with it, 4.0372/184.16 at the eighth. 4.6173/150.94 to the eighth for Peter beginning to pull it all back together again after his long lay-off. Big start line advantage for Eurodragster.com sponsor Marco, 0.1242 to Andy's 0.4125. The better sixty for Marco 1.0670 to 1.0872, Andy with the better eighth 4.4321/165.43 to Marco's 4.4410/167.16. Marco off the gas early and chutes out before the stripe. Very straight pass for Andy, improvement but stayed in place. Eurodragster.com sponsor Chris trying a new four-link set-up to get off the line, looked good from here with a 1.0440 to sixty. 0.9561 to sixty for Rick. A screech from Chris' tyres about 100 feet out. Rick to the eighth in 4.1066/171.40, Chris looked to be rolling off the throttle at the eighth 4.6134/145.64. Tero took a bye, Jean Dulamon held for clean-up in the lane just vacated by Chris. 1.0577 to sixty, brief shake which we felt up here. 4.2208/187.25 to the eighth, watching the run I expected a slightly quicker ET to come up on the board but a very consistent pass with Tero's previous best.

Clean-up complete Jean took a bye. You could see this was a good one on the launch. 0.9961 to sixty, 4.0963/177.08 at the eighth, exhausts spitting flame all the way and then right on the stripe a bang and ball of flame and the scoop blew off. Safety crews moved instantly and chased Jean down. New PB by 0.3 seconds, well done Jean! Hopefully no damage. 0.9907 to sixty for Eurodragster.com sponsor Andy, 1.0395 for Marcus. Andy drove through shake which pushed the Camaro to the right, maybe a brief pedal but either way his eighth 4.1015/177.70. Marcus to the eighth in 4.1430/174.12. Cloud of smoke from Maruc' motor in the shutdown area, track checked and all OK. Shake for David not far off the line, 1.1637 to sixty and then shut it off. 0.9830 to sixty for Roger, the Mustang starting to move to the left and getting very close to the guardrail just past the eighth 4.1128/172.28. Roger stayed on the gas and pulled the car away from the wall, it was close though. 1.0226 to sixty for Norbert, tyres looked to blackstripe and the car put down some fluid as Norbert shut off before the eighth 5.0113/106.29. 0.9739 to sixty for Mats, drove through shake past the Tree. 4.1106/176.09 at the eighth, very straight pass and again I was surprised at the ET since the run looked quicker.

FIA Top Methanol Funny Car qualifying session 3 (left lane first)

Jürgen Nagel 5.9636/227.00 bye; Leif Andrésson 5.6988/246.73, Steph Milam 5.9101/232.57

Great run for Jürgen. 0.9586 to sixty, 3.8914/188.96 at the eighth. A gentle bounce in the second half but no problem. Improvement and up to #2. Steph Milam and Leif Andréasson all set, one of them had just fired up when they were shut off for rain. On the restart a great match-up. Leif nailed Steph at the Tree 0.2192 to 0.5397, the better sixty 0.9359 to 1.0169, Steph's car was really powering on though. Leif to the eighth in 3.7326/198.84 and Steph in 3.8811/193.47. PB for Steph and second place reclaimed. Well done Steph, Dave and the team!

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Leif Andréasson 5.6988/246.73
  2. Steph Milam 5.9101/232.57
  3. Jürgen Nagel 5.9636/227.00

FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 3 (left lane first)

Dennis Habermann 5.4646/263.57 bye; Jonny Lagg 5.8842/231.69, Dave Wilson 5.5681/256.13; Stefan Gunnarsson 6.6032/167.91, Timo Habermann 5.3806/265.18

0.0666 RT for Dennis, 0.9414 to sixty with shake, a pedal at 250 feet then hard on it, 3.6080/210.79 at the eighth and up into #3 spot at that point. Just for a moment as he went into the burnout Jonny's motor sounded as if it were running on one or two cylinders but the burnout was fine. Looked like Grumpy's team had a little trouble getting the plugs out of the injector before he was motioned forward to stage. Jonny away first 0.1141 to 0.1384, Grumpy had the better sixty 1.0338 to 1.0985 and the much better eighth 3.7219/256.13 to 3.9551/211.84. Grumpy's tyre tracks are visible to 1000 feet and they are absolutely straight, you could use his tracks as a ruler. Stefan's car was labouring from the hit, 1.1382 to sixty, off the gas at about half track 4.1742/188.85. Timo flew to sixty feet in 0.8995, car moved a little to the right but Timo had a hold of it, 3.5349/214.50 at the eighth.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Timo Habermann 5.3321/262.68
  2. Dave Wilson 5.3918/261.14
  3. Dennis Habermann 5.4646/263.57
  4. Jonny Lagg 5.4863/249.59
  5. Stefan Gunnarsson 6.1673/202.42

12:00

A big Good Morning to Carla Pittau and Rick McCann who are tuned in either on the way to or in Sweden. Safe journey guys and we wish you were here. A big Good Morning also to Andrew Minor of Andy Hone's crew who is unfortunately stuck in hospital reading this coverage. Get well soon Andrew and hopefully we'll see you back at the track very soon.

Super Pro ET qualifying session 9

Very gutsy drive by Laura Turburville in the first pair as the slingshot was really fishtailing in the second half. Fantastic pass for Jayne Kay in the Pink Lady altered, up from #31 to #6 +0.0040 in dial-in. In the other lane Jayne's partner and Eurodragster.com sponsor Pete Walters shut it off before half track, nothing visibly wrong. Next pair and Roy Wilding pulled a perfect 0.0002 RT, I am going to lose count of the perfect lights if this keeps up! Brian Pateman next to make a move, up from #15 to #11. Slotting in behind him a few pairs later was Roy Walker, up from #16 to #12. New PB and a breakout for Rod Harrison, 6.0478 on a 6.10 dial-in, well done Rod! That was with a pedal, too.
