Latest update 18:00

Fuel Funny Car racer Gordon Smith said after his first run, 'We had severe tyre shake instantly and lifted. We are making changes to get it down the track and the track can definitely take more power'. He said of Jayne Kay's recent licensing runs 'She is good at handling the car and needs two full passes to get her license signed off. After she does that she will be taking over the driving from me'.

Fuel Funny Car racer John Spuffard suffered a dropped cylinder from the start which resulted in the car going into tyre shake. Car owner Bob Jarrett said 'We will get the cylinder problem fixed and then come back for the night session. Other than that there are no mechanical problems'. In this shot the intake manifold is being serviced during the usual between rounds maintenance.

Super Gas racer Jan Hardekopf has owned his MGA since 2001 and it is the first time that he has been at SPR since 2002. He said 'I enjoy racing at Hockenheim and qualified for the field however it was tough as only eight went forward to eliminations'.

Pro ET and Super Gas racer Jon Turner thanks Dave Milam and Dave Cherrett for their help in repairing the broken rocker. 'It took my team Pete, Peggett and Petch twenty hours to repair it as we had to take the head off and also check the bottom end'. A successful 10.6 checkout in Super Gas trim meant that Jon and team are now back on track.

Pro ET racer David Nichol started racing three years ago at a rwyb. He said 'I didn't know about the sport in the UK and wanted at the start to build a car that could race and go on the road, however I now have a pure race car. A Hauser Race Cars chassis became available and I put a Toyota 2JZ GTE engine in it. Greg from ECU Masters has helped me with the electrics and sponsors me and the gearbox is a hybrid Supra one. I did one JDS race in JDS Pro to try but the car wasn't competitive and Pro ET is a better class for the car. It produces 450hp now but 650hp is possible and the chassis has been tagged to 6.5'.

Pro ET racer Geoff Cowley is out after significant engine damage after the top of a valve broke off. He said 'That took out three pistons, another valve and damaged a cylinder head and scored the block. My thanks to Paul Jackson and his Dad for helping us take the engine apart, as well as fitting a new flex plate and neat starter motor supplied by Hauser Race Cars'. Also reported as having withdrawn is Pro ET racer Nigel Green with a broken gearbox in his VW.

Pro Mod racer and Eurodragster.com sponsor Andy Robinson ran a 6.48/185 after clicking off early. He said 'It was a planned 1000ft run but I lifted early after the gasket pushed out. We will miss Q2 and be back for Q3 tomorrow. The picture shows crew member Jerry Clayton inspecting a cylinder liner as the engine was completely apart when we came by.

Pro Modified racers Freddy Fagerström and Micke Gullqvist were getting up to a bit of tomfoolery. Freddy suffered two retainers and a rocker arm breaking in the valve train resulting in the engine running on six cylinders. 'The engine stayed together and I was lucky not to have dropped valves and losing the engine as a result'. After repairs Freddy came out in Q2 however rolled the beams and got into shake.

Pro Modified racer Jean Dulamon's front end is showing the scars of an encounter with the wall at Hockenheim. He said 'We were pleased to run a 6.5 with our new adustable rear shocks even though there was a problem on one of the runs. We also got a round win but broke a piston and valve and had no time to repair for the second round. Here I had had tyre shake in second gear, then got out of the groove and lifted after 2.75s into the run'. He improved to a 6.70 in session two to go eighth.

Pro Modified racer Paula Atkin is keeping to one stage of nitrous as the car is dialled into the track. She said 'It pulled over to the left and I lifted at 1000ft as planned. We have more data for our Fuse fuel supplied by sponsors Nimbus Motorsports and it's great to have Steve Clarke and Chris from Nimbus here today'. The car has a three stage nitrous kit but the team are taking a cautious, baby steps, approach as this is their second event in the class. Paula's time of 7.18 puts her no.11 in the order.

Pro Modified racer Mats Eriksson and tuner Adam Flamholc were delighted with back to back five second passes which help in the points chase that developed since Tierp two weeks ago. Mats said 'We had some problems with the supercharger and an electrical failure in the warmup and then in round one a sprag in the Lenco broke, so Micke Gullqvist caught up in the points. After the first session we are now even'. Adam, who is 2015 Swedish Top Doorslammer champion, will be racing Pro Extreme in the US at five events before the European season starts next year. He is considering competing in Pro Modified and also continuing to support Mats, who himself is intending to go the convertor route over the winter.

Pro Stock racer Jan Ericsson is at his first race at SPR although the car has been here with its previous driver. The debut, following a 6.67 PB at Tierp, was not as happy as Jan wanted. 'My engine broke in session one as a valve broke and the third member broke as well. So I will put our spare engine in and miss session two and be back tomorrow'.

Top Methanol Funny Car racer Jürgen Nagel suffered a broken rod and piston but the extent of the damage caused by the loose items rotating at great speed was scary. Crew chief Frank Schlemmer said 'The run started nicely and then I saw liquid spraying out of the engine and the car went left. Jürgen is a good driver and many others would have had a problem keeping it under control'. You will notice the bulge in the crankcase and we noticed a chassis rail was bent. Frank concluded 'We will be having to talk to our sponsors'.

Pro Modified racer Thomas Stiefel is the most improved racer in the class this weekend with a best in the class previously of a 6.819. In session one he ran 6.26/229 and in session two a 6.19/231, with little of the tyre shake that has plagued others.

Pro Stock racers Samatha Racing are having a sale of engines. For around £10,000 you can have a current spec Pro Stock engine with all ancillaries.

Top Fuel Bike racer Ian King checks the engine is firing on all four cylinders during the warmup. On both his runs, Ian's tyre went up in smoke, the first after a wheelie and he ended the day qualified sixth. In the championship, Ian has a seventeen point deficit to Rikard Gustafsson with 20 points for a round win, making this the closest championship for some years.

Super Twin racer Ronny Aasen was warming the engine with Team Zodiac members Ton and Vincent Pels. In session one he was shut off for a fuel leak and in session two he ran a 6.374/202 which is the third quickest run in Europe ever and the first half of a new European ET record (which currently stands at 6.409, held by Svein Olav Rolfstad).

Super Twin racer Martijn de Haas suffered a broken gearbox shaft. He said 'We don't have a spare but I remember Nate Gagnon shortened one from a Top Methanol car and it fitted so we are going to ask around. We're not going to give up yet.' Congratulations to Martijn who has won the championship, his main competitor Job Heezen having to withdraw due to illness.

Pro Stock Bike racer and Eurodragster.com sponsor Martin Newbury ran a new PB of 7.35. He said 'It had too much clutch as it found the mid track slippery, it is all about setup getting the bike to run quick and straight'.

Top Fuel Bike racer Otto Knebl suffered a locked clutch which the team expected to work on for the remainder of the day to resolve. He said 'We will be back out tomorrow morning'.

Many thanks to Brad O'Connor of BTC Motronics for this fascinating sheet detailing key facts about this weekend's Super Street Bike field. Brad provides trackside tuning for Garry Bowe, Dave Holland, Pete Field, Richard Hann and helps Graham Dance and said there is now a race between Garry, Dave and Steve Venables to be the first European Super Street Bike into the six second zone. Almost all riders are now using Motec M400 ECU and NLR AMS2000 boost controller. Most riders are utilising the MTC Gen 2 Clutch although some have NLR Airclutch, Hays or Rock Solid. The wheelbase is a limiting factor and in the US, a longer wheelbase of 72 inch for Turbo and 75 inches for nitrous compared with 68 inches for Europe.

Super Street Bike racer Peter Adorjan from Austria runs a Honda Blackbird, rare for the class and wnt 8.39/166 to go 20th.

Super Pro ET racer Ian Powell was five hundredths off his 7.96 dial in, however this was good for only 28th place after six sessions.

Super Pro ET racer Steve Ashdown is driving the Paul Marston Racing four link dragster this weekend. He found his helmet was out of date and needed to borrow one. Steve's son, Junior dragster racer Tyler, was able to oblige. Steve's time was 8.37, two hundredths off his dial-in which placed him eighteenth. Steve's first outing with the car was only three weeks ago, around the Mini in the Park event on 16th August, and over three days he learned to drive the dragster and utilise the transbrake.

Super Pro ET racer Marius Blackburn had a couple of runs in the left hand lane that looked like a one wheel burnout. His team said 'We have been adjusting the four link rear suspension for the left lane, however the car is fine in the right hand lane. He was qualified 26th with a 8.76, however in the sixth session the left lane but and the car did a wheelie and the steering broke on landing and it gently tagged the guardrail. Marius was able to drive the car to the first exit and was unhurt in the incident.

Super Pro ET racer Bernard Saz has a cool towcar with a fake supercharger poking through the hood and open 'headers'..

Bernard Saz's race car may look similar to last year's model however it is all new with Andy Robinson chassis and extremely light carbon fibre body. The body is so light that the 526 cu in engined machine is outside the weight break for Competition Eliminator and so he has changed classes. In Super Pro, he ran a pair of very easy looking 7.25s but on a 6.9s dial-in, making him 36th qualified. The car's detail is fantastic.

Super Pro ET racer Nick Good is making his first outing in his supercharged dragster, running a three car team with Brad Jackson and Chris Parker. Nick's car has run very consistent 6.8s so far this weekend and was pleased with performance.

Top Fuel Dragster championship contender Anita Mäkelä was chatting to Top Methanol Funny Car Champion Leif Andréasson before the first qualifying session.

Super Pro ET racer Mark Adams had a differential explosion in the final session yesterday and team chief Rod Harrison took it back to base in Manea for welding. Crewman Karl Harrison said 'We got the casing welded overnight and Geof Hauser helped us refit the spare diff and pinion so we hope we can go back out again later'.

Top Methanol Funny Car racer Steph Milam and team send best wishes to clutch man Dan Young who is in hospital for treatment and we hope he is able to be tuned into and watching the coverage. Steph has had to replace some burnt pistons after running the car in altered trim at Dragstalgia, with a 234mph pass making it Europe's fastest altered.

Pro Mod racer Simon Gough, with wife and crew Sharon fully recovered from her throat infection at the NitrOlympX, went 8.43, +0.0017 over his dial-in to be no.1 qualifier. Simon has built a substantial lead in the National Championship with this race and the National Finals to run.
