0.8706 to sixty for Jari with big shake, off the gas after a second or so. Problems on the way back from the burnout for Liam, motor sounded to be leaning out. The crew rushed to his aid and worked on the idle and then Liam came back to the start line. 0.8610 to sixty, tyres started to blackstripe past the Tree and the motor note went up and up. Transparent nitro flames from the headers became opaque orange flames and smoke, Liam got off the gas about 250 feet out as the dragster started drifting.

Gordon visibly away first 0.1483 to 0.2022, Kevin had the better sixty and 330 at 1.0093 to Gordon's 1,0641 and 2.5649 to 2.7922, Kevin's car started to drift to the right and it looked from here like a pedal and a broken blower belt before the eighth 4.0288/162.86, Gordon to the eighth in 3.9924/216.51 and stayed with it all the way to the thousand.

The smoke from Bert's motor in the last round obviously something non-trivial. Pretty much a carbon copy of Kev's semi-final, a stab of the throttle and then on and off the gas all the way down.

Tim away first 0.1514 to 0.2372, Nick had the much better sixty 0.9779 to 1.0748 and the better eighth 3.9787/181.78 to Tim's 4.1120/181.99 starting to drift to the right but visibly catching Nick. Tim's FC hit the finish line reflector invalidating his time and possibly casting doubt on Nick's ET and speed - some complex maths needed which we can't do right now (Marrs?).

Rene staged pointing at the 330 foot reflector and that's just where the bike headed with tyre shaking. Off the throttle about 100 feet out and pulled the bike away from the centre line, then back on the gas for a brief while.

No second race between Steve Woollatt and Nick Milburn so Rene just needs to stage in the final to take the win.

Rick's block put a rod out in E1, Kev had a thrash to make it having stripped the motor down. We were expecting Kev just to stage but he wellied it a couple of times before idling down the track.

Then a bang from Jari's motor and chutes out, relief panel I am guessing. Safety crews sped to both cars. Jari's car quickly towed off, Duncan's car needed a bit more attention.

Bert away first 0.1863 to 0.1928 but Roger had the better sixty 1.0326 to 1.0985. Roger tried to drive through shake, the Vipe starting to move about its lane and then made a move to the right, a pedal at that point. 4.2924/170.80 to the eighth for Bert, 4.7009/137.74 for Roger off the gas then back on it again.

Kev Slyfield 6.6141/210.12 bye, Bobby Wallace shut off

Courtesy of MSA Championship PR Robin Jackson we knew that Bobby's team were doubtful they would make this round due to various niggles. Bobby made it almost as far as the bleach box but then shut off with smoke from one side of the headers. Kev took the bye, 1.1058 to sixty, driving through shake, 4.3059/168.54 at the eighth, sounded like a pedal as the car made a move to the right, then a big cloud of smoke from the motor at about 1000 feet. Track checked and OK.

Jean's tyres didn't light in the burnout. Eurodragster.com sponsor Andy got a visible jump at the start 0.0921 to 0.2900, 1.0186 to sixty to Jean's 1.0781. Jean's Camaro started to drift left and he stayed with it as long as he dared but was off it by half track. 4.1916/174.75 to the eighth for Andy, the Camaro was moving gently towards the guardrail but he stayed with it. Very finely judged run for these conditions.

Next race and Martin Curbishley appeared to have transmission problems a few feet off the line, car stopped and motor tried to zing but Martin caught it very quickly. Shaky launch for Marius Blackburn propelled the altered half way across the centre line alongside Roy Walker. Marius kept a hold of it, got off the throttle and collected it all together, back into his own lane, classy piece of driving. Eurodragster.com sponsor Pete Walters a no-show for his race against Steve Wells, Steve there for the taking as the pick-up hit shake and took the long way round, close to the centre line and shut it off about 200 feet out. Big cloud of smoke from Rick Cooke's motor on the stripe, track checked and all OK. Jayne Kay a no show for her race with Paul Przybyl. Looks like Paul Marston found the Shorty Powerglide he was seeking as he made it to the lanes but had to shut off and was pushed away. Competitor Laura Turburville had problems getting the motor lit, didnt' make a burnout, no result for that race. Ian Powell the next with a bye, Martyn Jones did not show. Mark Flavell also a no show against #1 qualifier The Package.

Mark Bailey a no show for his race with Laura Baynton, similarly Tim Stanbury so James Forster took the bye. Excellent 0.0042 RT by John Dalrymple, today's first tilt at the Eurodragster.com / Bad Habit Racing Perfect Light Award. Leigh Morris a no show for his race with Lee Huxley, and Rick Denny a no show for his race with Glenn Pallant. Bye also for Gino Bernadine as Ethan Lisle did not show, and for Dave Cherrett as Al Platt did not show. Simon Innes a no show for his race with Bob Molden.

It turns out we had a couple of incorrect pairings so the Jackson v Herbert and Forster v Stanbury races were re-run, Paul Jackson and Tim Stanbury the winners of the re-runs.

We had a nice sunrise here at Santa Pod this morning, the sun peeking through gaps in the cloud. It is already warmer than it has been for the last couple of days and once the sun comes up a bit the cloud will burn off.

There will be no pit notes again today as ace Pit Reporter Simon is still recovering from a back injury. Get Well Soon Simon. The traditional Raceday Good Morning to Kathy Hileman who is tuned in from Rye, NH - hope you are having a good weekend Kathy.
