AntiGravity Batteries / wemoveyourcar.com Top Sportsman Day 2 qualifying after re-run

This is the heads-up contest. One-shot qualifier, top sixteen go through to tomorrow's eliminations.

Richie Webb awarded a re-run after the red light lit in his lane yet video footage shows that the VW did not move. #19 before the re-run, #13 after.

That's our race report done, RWYB continues on track until 20:00. Tune back in a couple of hours for today's pictures.

19:25

MSA Pro Modified qualifying session 4 (left lane first)

Andy Wright 7.1572/219.20 bye; Rick Garrett 6.4946/212.85 bye; Kev Slyfield 6.9438/210.02, Andy Frost 6.7960/218.96; Andy Robinson 6.7701/224.66, Chris Isaacs 6.8809/211.83

1.1625 to sixty for Andy with tyres spinning and smoking and motor zinging. A brief pedal then back on it, 4.8709/165.46 at the eighth, the Coupe moved about its lane some but Andy stayed with it all the way. An improvement but stayed in place. Rick's sixty foot times are back, 0.9995 this time, hardly any shake by the look of it. 4.2015/170.94 at the eighth. Up to #2 and close to PBs on ET and speed - information courtesy of MSA Pro Mod PR Robin Jackson to whom many thanks. Great burnouts by Kev and Frosty who must have the world's most quiet street-legal race car as well as the quickest and fastest. Kev rolled the beams affecting his ET, certainly a quicker sixty than 1.4201. 1.1683 to sixty for Frosty, 4.5242/167.78 at the eighth, straight down the middle of the lane. Kev drove through a little shake, the Thunderbird was close to the left guardrail a lot of the way but he stayed with it. 4.6345 at the eighth also affected by rolling the beams byr 170.39 a genuine enough half track speed. Frosty up a place. Eurodragster.com sponsors Andy R and Chris closed the session. Andy R's problem in Q3 was an empty air shifter bottle. Two great burnouts. 1.0155 to sixty for Andy R and 1.0791 for Chris, Andy R hit bad shake and his motor zinged, had to pedal it. Meanwhile Chris was off and running, looks like a safe tune-up still Andy R to the eighth in 4.5017/164.12, Chris right there at 4.5446/161.73.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Andy Robinson 6.2306/234.90
  2. Rick Garrett 6.4946/212.85
  3. Kev Slyfield 6.5973/210.82
  4. Andy Frost 6.7960/218.96
  5. Chris Isaacs 6.8639/208.17
  6. Bobby Wallace 7.1334/192.22
  7. Andy Wright 7.1572/219.20
  8. Wayne Nicholson 13.3243/62.13

16:35

MSA Pro Modified qualifying session 3 (left lane first)

Chris Isaacs 8.0909/159.04, Bobby Wallace 7.3379/185.05; Rick Garrett 7.1029/140.27 bye, Andy Robinson did not start

Bobby's tyres didn't light on the burnout.1.1460 to sixty for Eurodragster.com sponsor Chris, 1.0937 for Bobby. Looks like shake for Chris, meanwhile Bobby's Willys was heading for the centre line and Chris pedalled but from here difficult to say whether it was for shake or because he saw Bobby moving in. Bobby pedalled and got it straight and got back on the gas, 4.7127/149.63 at the eighth. Chris was back on the pedal but looked to shut it off around the eighth, the Duster came close to the centre line at the stripe. Eurodragster.com sponsor Andy's motor didn't start that I heard. 1.0324 to sixty for Rick, a barely perceptible pedal, 4.3822/164.86 at the eighth then off the gas and the chutes out.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Andy Robinson 6.2306/234.90
  2. Kev Slyfield 6.5973/210.82
  3. Chris Isaacs 6.8639/208.17
  4. Andy Frost 6.8796/211.93
  5. Rick Garrett 7.1029/140.27
  6. Bobby Wallace 7.1334/192.22
  7. Andy Wright 8.1050/202.45
  8. Wayne Nicholson 13.3243/62.13

MSA Pro Modified Q4 is due at 19:00.

Apologies for the occasional drops in the webcast. Judging by its behaviour the satellite modem is overheating. Julian of Nitro FM, whose satellite modem it is, is on the case.

MSA Pro Modified Q3 is due at 16:30.

14:25

MSA Pro Modified qualifying session 2 (left lane first)

Bobby Wallace 7.1334/192.22 bye (observed run); Andy Frost 6.8796/211.93 bye; Andy Wright 8.1711/201.67, Wayne Nicholson 17.7535/48.44; Kev Slyfield 12.8529/65.18 bye, Rick Garrett did not start; Andy Robinson shut off, Chris Isaacs 13.0840/83.49 bye; Andy Robinson 10.6559/95.04 bye

Rick Garrett 6.5830/206.12 bye (out of session)

Nicely-controlled burnout for Bobby. Again 7.40 or quicker for the licence, the speed requirement already having been attained. Licence gained! 1.0677 to sixty, the Willys drifted left and Bobby held on to about 200 feet then a couple of pedals to get it straight and back on the gas. 4.5879/152.57 at the eighth and in to #4 spot. Well done Bobby! Good to see Frosty back where he belongs. I don't know what he has done to that Vauxhall during the lay-off but it is even quieter than it was. 1.1474 to sixty, tyres shaking and then blackstriping all the way to the eighth 4.5254/164.26. A brief pedal to get it away from the rapidle-approaching centre line and back on it, maybe shut off a touch early. Hardly any burnout at all for both Andy and Wayne. Same story for Wayne as last round, misfire and cylinders out, the motor struggling. Tyres up in smoke at the hit for Andy, 1.3521 to sixty, you could hear him feathering the throttle and then a pedal just before half track and back on the gas. Rick was down here but didn't make it to the bleach box, the Willys was pushed away, Rick got out of the car looking faintly unamused. 1.0868 to sixty for Kev and the tyres were shaking like mad even then, the motor revs were going up and up and the Thunderbird turned right about 100 feet out. Kev got off the gas at that point. The track crew had a good long look at Kev's lane, so Andy R was shut off. Huge shake for Eurodragster.com sponsor Chris, you could feel it come up through the floor here in our office above the right lane. 1.1643 to sixty and off the gas before 200 feet. Eurodragster.com sponsor Andy R swapped to the right lane - although lanes are specified the Race Director has the discretion to change lane assignments for track conditions. Instant shake and smoke, 1.1584 to sixty with the back of the Camaro way up, motor zinged and Andy off the hard pedal passing the Tree.

Rick came back out of session and put in a great pass. 1.0073 to sixty, driving through some shake, 4.2438/166.12 at the eighth, and shut it off and chutes out a touch early.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Andy Robinson 6.2306/234.90
  2. Kev Slyfield 6.5973/210.82
  3. Chris Isaacs 6.8639/208.17
  4. Andy Frost 6.8796/211.93
  5. Bobby Wallace 7.1334/192.22
  6. Andy Wright 8.1050/202.45
  7. Rick Garrett 8.4953/134.45
  8. Wayne Nicholson 13.3243/62.13

MSA Pro Modified qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Bobby Wallace shut off, bye (observed run); Wayne Nicholson 13.3243/62.13, Kev Slyfield 6.5973/210.82; Chris Isaacs 6.8639/208.17, Andy Wright 8.1050/202.45; Rick Garrett 8.4953/134.45, Andy Robinson 6.2306/234.90; Boby Wallace shut off, bye (observed run)

Bobby looking for 7.40 seconds or quicker for his licence. Nice burnout but then shut off for a fluid leak. Long screaming burnout from Kev, short and languid affair for Wayne, the motor didn't sound right and indeed on the run it was really labouring. 1.0396 to sixty for Kev, drove through a little shake past the Tree. 4.2755/170.10 at the eighth. Check out today's Eurodragster.com news for a story from Bert Englefield and Andy Wright. Great run for Eurodragster.com sponsir Chris in the Isaacs and Tramm Duster, looked really easy. 1.1195 to sixty, 4.5058/164.18 at the eighth and believe me there is planty more left in there. 1.1099 to sixty for Andy and then bad shake, the Hot Rod turned hard right, a pedal and then back on it. 5.5207/136.17 at the eighth. Superb pass for Eurodragster.com sponsor Andy. 1.0220 to sixty, drove through the acceptable level of shake. 4,1047/179.53 to the eighth and straight as you like all the way to the stripe. Shake for Rick, 1.2196 to sixty and a pedal, 5.1609/123.06 at the eighth. Bobby's motor stopped after his burnout and he was pushed back. More fluid on the track.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Andy Robinson 6.2306/234.90
  2. Kev Slyfield 6.5973/210.82
  3. Chris Isaacs 6.8639/208.17
  4. Andy Wright 8.1050/202.45
