0.0444 to 0.1146 RTs in Marc's favour, identical sixties at 1.0097. Both his shake, Mattias off the gas by 330 feet, Marc's car turned hard right, then hard left, got into a pendulum effect and sideswiped the right guardrail, then crossed the centre line on the rebound. Mattias must have seen what was going on; although already off the gas he moved to the left as Marc came across the track. Safety crews chased after Marc's car but he had it under control and turned off at the end of the track.

In Eurodragster.com sponsor Urs' pre-event news item he said that he would be celebrating the event win. Let's see... not this time. Thomas away first 0.1145 to 0.1184 and had all the number from there, 0.8660 to sixty to Urs' 0.9570, Urs drove through shake just past sixty, Thomas full-on at the eighth 3.2272/261.65 to Urs' 3.4497/253.47 with smoke from the motor, Champion Thomas took the stripe by 0.2626 as Urs looked to shut off a moment early.

Dennis wasn't exactly a no show, he was out on the start line planting a Union flag on Timo's car after the burnout. The Habermanns decided to run a single and to fly our flag as a Thank You for such a great weekend. Much appreciated guys! 0.8911 to sixty, 3.5438/191.89 at the eighth and shut off.

Winner takes the Championship, just like Super Street Bike don't you just love it when the title comes down to the last race of the season? Jimmy takes the race and the title, congratulations Jimmy and team! Away first 0.0537 to Magnus' 0.1335, Magnus had the better sixty 0.9879 to Jimmy's 1.0046, for a moment Magnus looked to be coming back at Jimmy but Jimmy was powering through the eighth at 4.2420/167.16 to Magnus' 4.2666/165.77, the stripe and the Championship by 0.1412.

Johan's tyres didn't light in the burnout and it hurt him, tyres up in smoke and shake, shut off about 150 feet out. 0.9917 to sixty for Gareth, 3.8022/194.32 at the eighth, perfect straight pass.

Another PB for Martijn for which congratulations, and really great to see Job breaking the back of his problems this season.

Andy unaware of his red light also hit shake and pedalled more than once, the Camaro turned right about 150 feet out but Andy held on to it and kept hitting the pedal.

Holeshot win for the repeat Champion. 0.0586 to Micke's 0.1061, Micke with the better sixty 0.8674 to 0.8710, Thomas had the better 330 2.2389 to Micke's 2.2731, Thomas' tyres started to smoke before the eighth 3.3108/215.99 to Micke's 3.3527/226.43, the Andersen Racing dragster was fishtailing severely with tyres smoking, we saw the Bat on the right side of the car before Thomas even thought about getting off it which was about 800 feet out, Thomas had enough to take the stripe by 0.0169.

Urs Erbacher 4.2103/281.99 def. Duncan Micallef 5.2419/133.71

Duncan strapped a massive 0.0674 to 0.2518 holeshot on Eurodragster.com sponsor Urs and had the better sixty 0.8539 to 0.9359. 330 foot for Duncan 2.2378 to Urs' 2.3597, then a huge bang and ball of flame from Duncan's motor, lifted the blower by the sound of it. Meanwhile smoke and flame from the right side of Urs' motor but it was still functioning at the eighth 3.3608/252.19 to Duncan's slowing 3.6038/155.50. Despite Dncan's huge holeshot Urs overhauled him and took it by 0.8472. Safety crews chased both cars down the shutdown area. Clean-up in Duncan's lane.

David to the eighth in 4.6997/146.63 pretty much sideways, Micke 4.6333/147.15 smilarly. David there by 0.1621.

Fantastic race! Bruno just away first 0.1051 to 0.1090, Bruno with the better sixty 0.9711 to 0.9834, Bruno driving to shake to about 150 feet, the Vette swinging left and right but he stayed with it. 3.9247/189.66 to the eighth for Mattias and 3.9396/186.30 for Bruno, Mattias there first by 0.0565. Marc Meihuizen crowns Mattias Wulcan 2014 FIA European Pro Modified Champion, congratulations Mattias and team! Roger with the better sixty 1.0055 to Marc's 1.0142, Marc had to pedal for shake and Roger had the advantage at the eighth 3.9727/186.52 to 4.0086/186.31, but then Roger's Mustang started to make serious moves left and right in the second half, Marc got past him and took it by 0.0180.

Gordon Smith 4.4455/273.09 def. Jason Phelps 6.5943/105.03

Same as in Q1 Gordon was back at the start line before Jason pulled forward for his burnout. Jason visibly away first 0.1678 to 0.3677, Gordon much quicker to sixty at 0.9378 to 1.1038. Clear shake marks at 200-300 feet in Jason's lane, off the gas at about 300 feet. Gordon to the eighth in 3.5529/122.25.

Kevin Kent 6.9134/89.42 bye

0.9922 to sixty, motor note went down and the safety cut-out must have kicked in since the motor stopped and a chute deployed.

No Rene, no word why. Rikard took the green and squirted the throttle for a couple of feet, stopped and pushed back.

Steve Woollatt 8.4887/94.69 def. Filippos Papafilippou DQ no time

I can't remember the last time I saw Steve Woollatt in the left lane here at Santa Pod, put there by Fil having lane choice. I never saw anything like what happened next, either. Fil away first 0.0768 to 0.1748, the slightly better sixty 1.0612 to 1.0706, Fil's rear tyre was shaking and he crossed lanes at 330 feet, caught the back of Steve's bike. Steve somehow kept the bike upright, we could see Fil's bike sliding and rolling down the track but the question was where was Fil? No sign of him which was a real worry. Would you believe he ended up sitting on top of Steve's wheelie bars and hung on until Steve got it stopped in the shutdown area. Safety crews responded very rapidly again, gate open and rolling as soon as Steve passed. Fil taken to the Medical Centre with an ankle injury, Steve OK but understandably shaken but only because Fil hadn't paid for a ticket. Photographer Matt Woods showed us a sequence of pictures which he caught which show Fil sitting on Steve's wheelie bars as if they were a deckchair.

Otto Knebl 6.9826/164.85 def. Ian King 7.5444/128.41

Ian just away first 0.2427 to 0.2662, Ian had the better sixty 1.0581 to Otto's 1.1846 and the much better 330 foot time 2.7734 to Otto's 3.0293. Ian's motor started to sound rough, smoke from the headers and then a fire on the right side of the bike. The motor was still running but sounded awful. Ian still ahead at the eighth but slowing 4.3535/150.30 to 4.4621/175.69. Otto overhauled Ian in the second half even shutting off early. Safety crews on their way very quickly, chased Ian down the shutdown area. Clean-up in Ian's lane. Ian needed to win this round to clinch the Championship but as mentioned below Rikard Gustafsson would have to win the event, and 5.8 and 234 mph and back them up to take the title.

Christian Jäger no time def. Samu Kemppainen no time DQ

Samu needed to win this one to take the Championship. It started well, 0.1058 to 0.2095 RT advantage over Christian. 1.1362 to sixty for Samu to Christian's 1.1489, Samu was pulling away by the eighth 4.3399/174.09 to Christian's 4.7095/131.29. Samu's bike was heading left and he took out the 1320 foot reflector DQing his run. Now a nail-biter for Samu as Christian can win the Championship by winning the event.

Job Heezen 7.0405/190.49 def. Roman Sixta 7.8503/125.11

Roman away first 0.1307 to Job's 0.2048, the better sixty 1.1375 to Job's 1.2194 and going well at the eighth 4.5687/144.68 to Job's 4.6277/163.02. But then smoke from Roman's notor in the second eighth and he shut it off. Something came off Job's bike, looked like a wheelie bar panel, but he was well on his way and took it by 0.7357.

Too much attrition for the Zodiac team, I am guessing. 1.1841 to sixty for Martijn, 4.3939/175.63 at the eighth. Clean run, no shake or smoke.

This one done on the start line, 0.1872 to 1.3872 in Gert-Jan's favour. Gert-Jan to sixty in 1.1033 to Alex's 1.3585, 4.5951/149.51 at the eighth to Alex's 5.1131/146.65, 1.7540 win margin in Gert-Jan's favour. Brief sweep of Alex's lane.

Roy away first 0.0440 to Fredde's 0.0686 but Roy's bike banged up and down on the wheelie bars a couple of times which lost him some ET. Roy to sixty in 1.2740, Fredde long gone at 1.0779. Clear lead for Fredde at the eighth 4.5412/152.40 to Roy's 5.0208/143.89 and the stripe by 0.6321.

Michael Malmgren 6.6922/206.10 def. Thomas Lindström no time DQ

Thomas away first 0.0760 to 0.0942, Michael with the quicker sixty 1.0034 to 1.0130. Michael's GXP drifted left a little but he had it covered. All eyes on Thomas from that point as the Mopar hit shake, turned hard right then hard left, got into a pendulum and was up on two wheels firstly on the left side and then on the right, eventually doing a near-180 and crossing the centre line before getting stopped. Michael luckily long gone by then, 4.3120/163.97 at the eighth.

Magnus Pettersson 6.6760/207.93 def. Simon Gustafsson 6.9009/203.47

Big holeshot for Magnus 0.0192 to Simon's 0.1515. Magnus to sixty in 0.9869 driving through shake up to the Tree, 1.1110 to sixty for Simon. Magnus to the eighth in 4.2915/162.83 having drifted left and pulled it back, Simon to the eighth in 4.4851/161.20, Magnus took the stripe by 0.3572.

Jimmy Ålund 6.5426/212.98 bye

#1 qualifier bye for Jimmy and a smoother, straighter Pro Stock run you won't see. 0.9982 to sixty, 4.2191/169.12 at the eighth.

Crucial Championship race for Manty but a holeshot win for Dennis. Dennis visibly moved first 0.0542 to 0.1392, Manty had the better sixty 0.8988 to 0.9038, Manty and Dennis both drove through shake as if it wasn't there. Dennis to the eighth at 3.4902/214.95 to Manty's quicker and faster 3.4616/215.60, Dennis' holeshot enough to get him the win by 0.0454. New PB for Manty, well done Manty!

Jonny Lagg 5.5730/253.20 def. Chris Polidano 6.1348/262.67

Another crucial Championship race. Jonny away first 0.0533 to 0.1056, Chris' tyres up in smoke instantly. 0.9867 to sixty for Jonny, 1.2526 for Chris who pedalled, got back on it and the front end came right up and the car was banged up on the wheelie bars. Pedalled again to get the front end down. 3.6799/211.49 to the eighth for Jonny, Chris way behind at 4.3206/214.85 and 0.6141 lacking at the stripe. However! Despite this result and subject to official ratification Chris is 2014 FIA European Top Methanol Dragster Champion, congratulations Chris, Jerry and the Kalanc team!

Timo Habermann 5.2217/271.45 def. Dave Wilson 6.0085/223.63

Grumpy pushed back from his burnout rather than using the reverse, motor almost leaned out on the way back. Timo away first 0.0778 to 0.1710 and he never saw Grumpy again. 0.8873 to sixty to Grumpy's 1.0633, drove theough tyre-flapping shake, storming eighth 3.3234/217.60 to Grumpy's 3.9687/194.56 and a new European ET record backed up by his qualifier. Well done Timo, Werner and the Habermann team!

FIA Top Methanol Funny Car eliminations round 1

Gareth Ellis 6.6707/170.46 def. Danny Bellio 7.0792/227.85

Gareth away first 0.1536 to 0.1454, Danny with the better sixty 0.9836 to Gareth's 1.0262. Danny hit shake and had to pedal, meanwhile Gareth's FC started to trail a shower of sparks. From here it was difficult to tell whether clutch, or wheelie bar come loose, or what, but it looked spectacular. 4.1560/175.62 to the eighth for Gareth, Danny was off the gas but I think he saw that Gareth appeared to have a problem since he got back on the hard pedal, 4.8502/163.08 at the eighth. Gareth off the gas in the second half, got there first by 0.4003. Top end safety crews responded very rapidly, as ever, chased Gareth down as soon as Danny had gone through. Top end clean-up in Gareth's lane.

Leif Andréasson 6.1283/171.73 bye, Steph Milam no show

Problems for Steph so Leif took the single. 0.9592 to sixty, 3.7072/200.68 at the eighth and then the FC got its usual bounce on and Leif shut it off.

Johan visibly away first 0.1437 to 0.3170 and the much quicker sixty 0.9611 to Jürgen's 1.0894. No sign of shake or other problems for either. 3.6561/207.06 to the eighth for Johan, 4.0778/190.23 for Jürgen, plain outrun by 0.7274 at the stripe.

Stig away first 0.1396 to 0.1511 and the better sixty 0.8569 to Micke's 0.9009. Stig's tyres starting to shake by 330 feet 2.5002 to Micke's 2.2859, shake and smoke for Stig and off the gas as the dragster made a move to the left. 3.2829/256.35 at the eighth for Micke then green flame and a brief fireball from his motor right on the thousand. Track checked and all OK.

Duncan Micallef 4.02078/295.86 def. Tethys 4.7883/181.40

Duncan away first 0.1393 to Tet's 0.2158, the Maltese Lion was extending his lead by sixty 0.8504 to Tet's 0.9349 and at 330 feet 2.2313 to Tet's 2.4415. Duncan's tyres blackstriping past the eighth 3.2057/258.66 to Tet's 3.6080/207.05, looked to be off the gas there or just before. Tet's motor had all candles lit but seemed to be struggling. Brief clean-up in Tet's lane.

Urs Erbacher 4.1984/283.94 def. Chris Andrews 9.3187/42.61

Chris visibly left first 0.1004 to Eurodragster.com sponsor Urs' 0.1522 and had the much better sixty 0.8336 to Urs' 0.9181. Chris then hit bad shake and pedalled, his blower relief panel blew and the safety device put one chute out. 3.3470/250.66 to the eighth for Urs and looked like a burnt head gasket with orange flame on one side of the motor.

Thomas Nataas 4.9974/143.03 bye

Thomas with an ET record to back up said that the team were going for it even though on the #1 qualifier bye. 0.8542 to sixty, 2.2139 at 330 feet, tyres started to turn and smoke before the eighth 3.4871/170.98, a pedal and a couple of blips of the throttle and off the gas. By taking the green Thomas won the 2014 FIA European Top Fuel Dragster Championship, well done Thomas, Per, Karsten and the team!

330-foot burnout by David. Last-minute work in his wheelie bars and Chief Starter Ian Marshall signealled the team to bring the car forward now. Visible 0.0608 to 0.3603 holeshot for Tero but then bad shake, 1.1840 to sixty, the Mustang turned left and Tero got off the gas. 0.9962 to sixty for David, 4.0113/184.22 to the eighth, close to the guardrail at mid-track and smoke from the motor a the stripe. One Championship contender out of it.

-0.1526 red for Norbert, the car rocking back and forh in stage. 1.0404 to sixty for Marcus, a pedal before the eighth, 4.3862/168.52 at the eighth and feathering the throttle in the second half.

Andy in as an alternate for Freddy Fagerström and he got away first 0.1567 to Roger's 0.1841. Roger had the better sixty 0.9996 to 1.0678, way ahead at the eighth 4.0199/178.86 to Andy's 4.4718/161.79 close to the centre line.

Roger visibly moved first 0.1510 to 0.2292 but was already shaking at sixty feet 1.1147 to Mattias' 0.9930. Roger's Viper went for the centre line in quite a violent fashion and Roger shut off. Mattias' car was shaking and moving towards the centre line, a pedal before the eighth 4.1112/180.30.

Marc Meihuizen 5.9415/243.71 bye, Wayne Nicholson broke

Wayne in as an alternate for Kev Slyfield didn't get reverse after the burnout and drove to the end of the track. 1.0223 to sixty for Marc, didn't see or feel any shake (we can usually feel the shake from our office). 3.9272/192.66 at the eighth, very straight run by Pro Mod standards.

Bruno away first 0.1516 to 0.2055. Two .9 sixties at 0.9940 for Rick to Bruno's quicker 0.9714, storming eighth for Bruno 3.9141/186.32 to Rick's 4.2295/170.25. Clean runs for both, daylight win for Bruno but the development of Rick's car coming along just fine.

Eurodragster.com sponsor Andy visibly away first 0.1035 to Bobby's 0.2351, pretty hot sixty at 0.9713 to Bobby's 1.0495. Andy hit shake but tried to drive through it, the Camaro made a move to the left and then he had to pedal, back on the gas and a hard right move, we saw the side of the car and I swear it was up on three wheels at the eighth 4.3715/155.50. Another gusty drive for Andy. 4.5710/151.52 to the eighth for Bobby and off the gas in the second half.

The traditional Good Morning to Eurodragster.com US Correspondent Kathy Hileman who is tuned in from Rye, NH. Kathy tuned in yesterday to watch our late friend and colleague Ed O'Connell's astounding 3.949/316.40 ride-along with Thomas Nataas and she said that it could not have been more perfect. We will be scattering Ed's ashes at the end of the track when racing finishes today. If you are at the track then you are welcome to attend.

Championships-wise, with a big Thank You to Tomas Pettersson, Andy Marrs and our own Simon, we know that Johan Lindberg (FIA Top Methanol Funny Car) and Fredrik Fredlund (FIM Europe Pro Stock Bike) have clinched their titles, congratulations to them. Thomas Nataas (FIA Top Fuel Dragster) has to take the green in E1 to take the Championship, and he is on a bye.

FIA Top Methanol Dragster is down to whoever goes furthest in eliminations, Chris Polidano or Manty Bugeja... and if you check out the ladder they could meet in E2. FIA Pro Modified is between Mattias Wulcan, Micke Gullqvist, Roger Johansson and Tero Laukkanen; if results turn out that way then Micke and Tero are on course to meet in round 2, and if results continue to go with the contenders then Micke and Mattias would meet in the semi-finals. In FIA Pro Stock it's down to who gets the furthest in eliminations: Michael Malmgren, Magnus Pettersson and Jimmy Ålund. If the results turn out that way then Jimmy and Michael meet in round 2.

FIM Europe Top Fuel Bike is a formality since even if leader Ian King goes out in round 1, Rikard Gustafsson would need to win the event and set ET and speed records to take the title. Given that Rikard is on a Funny Bike the likelihood that he will go quicker and faster than 5.860 seconds and 233.36 mph is pretty small although I'd pay real money to see it. In FIM Europe Supertwin, leader Samu Kemppainen needs one more round win. Finally the FIM European Super Street Bike Cup could be won by any one of eight racers so it's a case of who goes furthest in eliminations. Setting records could help.
