Tyre up in smoke about 100 feet out and off the gas. 1.3134 to sixty for Rene, bike started to drift towards the centre line but he just managed to keep it away until 1000 feet when he hit one of the reflectors. 1.1789 to sixty for Christian, nice-looking run riding out a fishtail then backed off just before the eighth. 13:00 Super Pro ET qualifying session 3 Amanda Cox and Steve Johnson side-by-side up the ladder in the second pair, #20 to #4 and #14 to #6 respectively. Paul Marston up from #15 to #2 next pair. Paul Przybyl next up the ladder, #10 to #7. First pass with the ex-Pro Mod motor for Liam Jones, motor stopped twice before the burnout but whatever the problem was it got sorted. Big burnout then a backfire in stage. Restarted but the same happened again so pushed back. Laura Turburville up from #24 to #6 next run, blew her Personal Best away I think, well done Laura! Jack Brewster up from #18 to #11 next run, chute out before the stripe. #26 to #15 for Steve Saunders by the simple expedient of not breaking out. Nick Spence up from #21 to #3 after patiently negotiating his way through a dragster traffic jam with Dave Ward ready to pull round alongside him and Liam Jones' dragster in front of the Barn hitched up for return to the pits. Rick Cooke next up the ladder, #21 to #9. Next pair and Scott Hauser pushed back for fluid in his lane, not from his car. Ian Powell took the bye and moved up from #19 to #11.

First run down the track for Martin's Jet Dragster. Afterburner-free run, 5.5275/135.53 at the eighth already shut off by that point, chute out just after the eighth. 12:20 Fuel Funny Car qualifying session 1 (1000 feet, left lane first) Jason Phelps shut off, Kevin Kent shut off Jason's FC looks great in the colours of new sponsor TeamRock.com. Looked to have a slight problem getting out of reverse after the burnout but tuner Dave Bryant applied his magic. Meanwhile Kevin shut off, nothing visibly wrong. Jason's motor suddenly started to make thumping noises, orange and green flames out of the right bank and Dave signalled Jason to shut it off. 12:15 Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 1 (left lane first) Duncan Micallef 14.4611/54.74, Chris Andrews 10.0924/62.54; Noah Stutz 8.3507/66.77 bye; Duncan on the way back from his burnout before Chris pulled his own burnout. Instant tyre smoke and a flash of flame from Duncan's motor, shut off immediately. 0.8944 to sixty for Chris but hit bad shake and shut it off by the Tree. 0.8543 to sixty for Noah but the tyres were visibly shaking and he shut it off at about 100 feet, chute out about 300 feet out but I didn't hear the burst panel blow. Chris' run good for his Pro Mod licence and counts for qualifying. Looked like a planned 330 foor for Roger, 1.1049 to sixty, 3.1692 at 330 and off the gas. Dave and crew exchanged satisfied nods. Storming 0.9157 to sixty for Rick, one of the quickest PM sixtues I can remember seeing, 2.8244 at 330 and off the pedal. Shake-stricken 1.1278 to sixty for Eurodragster.com sponsor Andy, a couple of pedals and hard on it, 4.7714/168.56 at the eighth. The car was sawying left and right and blackstriping its lane but Andy stayed with it. Shake and a hard right turn for Steve, one tyre smoking as the car turned, looked from here to be up on its two left wheels for a moment. Steve pedalled and got back on it and the burst panel blew and the chutes deployed. 0.9784 to sixty for Robert, not much sign of shake, 4.0558/181.05 at the eighth. Qualifying after this session:

Stormer for Gareth, 0.9191 to sixty, driving through shake when the front end came down, 3.8146/195.11 at the eighth and straight down the middle of his lane in the second eighth. Qualifying after this session:
11:40 ACU Top Fuel Bike qualifying session 3 (left lane first) Rene van den Berg shut off; Steve Woollatt 11.7707/68.76 bye; Rene van den Berg no time DQ bye; Christian Jäger 7.7819/128.06 bye Rene's motor started then stopped within a couple of seconds. Two of rene's crew were downtrack to retrieve him from his burnout, Rene waved them back and they worked frantically on the bike whilst Steve took his bye. Steve's tyre didn't light on the burnout, would that hurt the run? Not to start with. 1.0538 to sixty feet then the rear tyre appeared to unload when the front end came down and Steve got off the gas about 200 feet out. Problem sorted Rene took his turn. 1.1935 to sixty with the rear tyre shaking, the bike headed for the centre line and Rene hit the 330 foot reflector with his left foot. 1.1126 to sixty for Christian, 4.5939/157.93 at the eighth, bike started to drift to the right and the motor was smoking, Christian shut if off before 1000 feet as the bike got close to the guardrail. A few arcane calculations reveal that had the wheelbase of Carla's Camaro, which Rick is driving this weekend, been 0.02 inches longer then Rick would have recorded a perfect run and won the Eurodragster.com / Gold RV Perfect ET Award. Tim Stanbury up to #11 first pair, -0.007 RT from Paul Marston in the other lane having a tilt at the Eurodragster.com / Bad Habit Racing Perfect Light Award. Next pair and James Forster blew away his PB, well done James! In the other lane Keith Herbert moved up from #10 to #2. ACU Funny Bike qualifying session 2 Stefan Schmidt up from #7 to #5 first pair. Dave Peters in at #2 after leaving before the lights ran in Q1. Stu Crane up from #8 to #2 next pair, alongside Fast Fil who improved to consolidate his #1 spot, shut off early so the six-second run should be a formality. Dave Buttery's motor cut out at the hit, improvement for Dale Leeks in the other lane but stayed #5 at that point. Harold Wolfenden on Rick Stubbins' bike hit problems a few feet out and rolled to a halt at the eighth. Fantastic run for Gary Jones, up from #11 to #2. Puff of smoke right on the stripe but track OK so hopefully nothing amiss. Bob Brooks up from #10 to #6 with the last pass of the session.

No harm done to the run, Graham up from #12 to #3. Richard Hann next to make a move, up from #7 to #4. Fantastic run for Pete Field to take #1 spot, PBs for both ET and speed, our first 200 of the weekend, first half of an ET record as well, well done Pete and Frank! Previous #1 qualifier Garry Bowe improved but couldn't take #1 spot back. Steve Venables straight in at #3 having built one motor from what was left of two.

Superb long burnout by Bob Hawkins in the new Time Traveller car, Terry Clifford's crew in the other lane literally twiddled his thumbs on the start line as they awaited Bob's return. It's overcast but dry here at Santa Pod, still the north-easterly breeze (i.e. tailwind) but not quite as cold yesterday.
