Eliminations cancelled

The rain shows no sign of stopping and the radar shows yet more to come so we have been called for the day.

In the absence of any action today, courtesy of Grace Roaf we have posted a small number of weekend pitside shots which you can view via the Event Index page. There are ten pictures in all; if you do not see all ten updated thumbnails when you load the Gallery page then click on your Browser's Refresh button.

13:30

As you have doubtless seen from the webcam, it is still raining here at Santa Pod.

Tommy Johnson Jr held a press conference in the Media Centre accompanied by Promoter and SPR CEO Keith Bartlett. Ed attended the press conference and this is his report:

TJ commented on his first experience of European drag racing that everything about this experience, the facility, the people, and the cars have all exceeded his expectations by three times. He spoke of his plans to possibly compete in the entire FIA series with the permission of his current employer Don Schumacher Racing.

TJ is working full time a purchasing manager for all seven DSR professional teams as well as having race day responsibilities including reporting on track conditions to the team crew chiefs. Knowing that Tommy’s first love was driving, Don Schumacher encouraged him to pursue the opportunity to race in Europe, since none of the FIA meetings conflict with his NHRA duties.

He was surprised to learn many new racing terms and took photographs to test the knowledge of his US teams on terms such as scrutineering and the labels on various teams’ tool drawers. This is the first time he has worked with a crew whose language he didn’t understand, although they all speak excellent English; when dialogue in Danish produces a laugh, he assumes they are speaking about him.

TJ said that his Abu Dhabi Crew Chief texted him to congratulate him on yesterday's 4.66 almost as soon as the run had taken place and he didn't realise until then how many people were following the race as it happened.

He added that the Andersen Racing operation was first rate in terms of parts and equipment and preparation of the race car.

9:20

We've got light rain during the #1 qualifier presentation.

8:30

Good morning and welcome to our coverage of the FIA Main Event brought to you in association with Alamo Rent-A-Car.

The Webster Race Engineering/Nimbus Motorsport webcam is on-line and will be broadcasting live video and commentary/Nitro FM audio as long as the track is open.

High overcast but dry here at Santa Pod, we're very pleased to report that the stiff breeze has dropped right off and has changed direction to south westerly, so the temperature has risen.

A big Good Morning to Perry Antoniou and Dom Coleman whom we know are tuned in, hope you are enjoying the coverage guys. Hello and Thank You also to everyone who continues to get in touch to say nice things about the coverage. We also appreciate the constructive suggestions we have received; if we can't do anything about them this time around then we will next time.

On-track action starts at 9:30 with round one of Pro Modified. Stay tuned and as soon as the first pair fire up we'll start to bring you the news. Subject to how quickly the pairs go through we plan to post results run by run so keep hitting Refresh.
