Super Pro ET racer Paula Atkin credits changes made to the throttle linkage in her Ford Mustang with today’s Personal Best run of 6.91 at 196.23. She found that her foot had been slipping off the throttle causing the nitrous to switch off. With no other changes the car ran a 60’ time of .98. Unfortunately the power of the nitrous assisted 615 C.I motor caused tire shake on a later qualifying run broke some gears and led to a snapped input shaft ending the weekend for the team.

Simon Gough’s Pro ET entry of a 1968 Camaro is a result of damage to his 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air last week. Simon jokingly claimed it was the cost of replacing the 2 blown out front tires that forced him to buy a new car instead. After 3 runs on the brand new BB 540 C.I. motor the team has found it runs perfectly to the eighth mile but won’t wind past 5000 RPM. This weekend is being use as a test session to sort out such problems before using the Nitrous system.

Thomas Cook-Abbott’s first weekend in Junior Dragster is going well. After his third pass he was feeling very comfortable in the car and turning a 0.088 Reaction Times. His father is a medic on the Santa Pod safety crew.

Martyn Jones' Super Pro ET dragster is back competing for the first time since a top end accident last year. The front end framework, roll cage, wing, gear box case and torque converter have all been replaced. The frame work was done by Kevin Cerusale. Martyn plans to install the vinyl signage with all the thank you’s as soon as all the silly mistakes have been resolved. Today’s shakedown run was to determine if the car was running straight, Butterflies freezing up and mis-adjusted wheelie bars caused a huge wheelstand. Martyn feels the Tom Conway motor is capable of a five-second ET and says he won’t retire until he has the fastest Super Pro ET run.

Gregory Robins, whose dad is Terry who races in Pro ET, is competing in Junior Dragster for the first time with a new engine.

John Grant, racing in Super Street and Super Gas, has experienced high and low points already this meeting. After winning the Eurodragster.com/Cotsweld Race Cars Perfect Light award in an earlier qualify session, he saw his weekend come to a close as his windscreen collapsed and blew into the cockpit at 137 MPH. At approximately 1000 feet, the windscreen failed causing both door panels to blow out. John emerged unhurt except for a small cut on his nose.

Wayne Hiscock and his wife/crew Pam are returning to Super Gas competition after a 4 year break. Wayne was quite pleased with his 9.24 run without use of transbrake. His two runs so far are basically check out passes for the 496C.I. BB Chevy powered 1971 Chevelle. His Personal Best prior to this meeting was 9.55 at 137 MPH

Cousins Simon and Jennifer Gustafsson traveled 39 hours from Sweden to compete in Super Street this weekend. Simon who drives a Camaro powered by a 406 SB Chevy (which is for sale), got his start in drag racing as a crew member on Jonas Dantanus’ Pro Stock. Jennifer, who got her start in Junior Dragster, racing from age 12-18, has been racing a Dodge Challenger since 2007. The cousins have never faced each other in eliminations, but in a qualifying session they once met and ran identical 10.917 ETs.

4 time UK Super Street Bike champ Graham Dance was quite relived to break a 6 year winless streak with a meeting win recently and is optimistic his new engine clutch combination will hold the power of the nitrous boost to lower his current PB of 7.27. His plan for this meeting is to creep up on a possible assault on the 200MPH mark, a definite possibility if the wind dies down.

Garry Bowe is looking forward to his first attempts at running a nitrous set-up on his Super Street Bike, recently added with assistance from Brad O’Connor. Having run 7.46 at Easter, he feels a 7.3 attainable with Nitrous boost at the top end of the run and then gradually working towards bringing the nitrous in earlier in the run for boost as well as acting as an intercooler.

Malcom Motler is returning to Super Comp competition after a two and a half year layoff in the Morris Minor pick up he originally purchased as a Post Office van 34 years ago. He has recently smoothed out the front end body work and rebuilt the gear box after Andy Frost pointe out it was slipping in 3rd gear The SB Chevy powered race car has a pick-up bed narrowed from a Dodge step-side truck.

Street Eliminator defending champion Ian Hook is making his first appearance this year after a significant chassis rebuild on his 34 Ford. Despite his win last year, he felt the chassis would be playing up at anything faster than an 8.20 pass. The chassis stiffening was performed is his shop with frequent phone consultations from Jon Webster.

Pro ET racer Billy Gane was pleased with the results of his just completed engine rebuild. A spun main bearing on the BB Chevy powered Cobra destroyed the crankshaft 2 weeks ago. The 461 C.I. engine has a new crank purchased from Terry Robins and re sized rod bearings, all of which performed flawlessly in a 10.29 check out pass.

Super Gas racer Jon Giles is competing at his first event of the year taking time off to celebrate the recent birth of his daughter. Changes to the Roar Willis in the off season include new metering blocks on the carburetor provide by Tony Morris from Orlando FL.
