FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 4 (left lane first)

Risto Poutiainen 4.9127/293.22 bye; Micke Kågered 5.0549/250.84, Kenni Neergaard 5.2147/214.85; Patrik Pers 12.8575/76.18, Andy Carter 18.3487/53.15; Timo Lehtimäki 5.7275/230.39 bye

Risto in the Last Chance Saloon as one of the title contenders contingent upon what happens to Tommy Johnson Jr's points - that decision yet to be promulgated by the FIA. Fantastic pass! 0.9093 to sixty feet, 3.3282/246.75 at the eighth, looked to shut off at the 1254 beam. Micke and Kenni outside the ladder and next to run. Nice run between Micke and Kenni, 0.9221 to sixty for Micke to Kenni's quicker 0.9135, 3.3832/247.88 at the eighth for Micke to Kenny's slightly quicker 3.3737/247.28. Smoke from Kenni's motor and he shut off, Micke off the gas past 1000 feet where he was clocked at 283.91. Engine note of a bouncing car at the top end and all the safety crews mobilised, clean-up crew also at the top end in Kenni's lane. Micke now in the ladder, Kenni spectating tomorrow. Micke bumped Andy Carter out of the ladder and Kenni moved above Andy in the DNQ list, but Andy is lined up to run next alongside Patrik Pers.

One monumental clean-up job later - well done track crew - Patrik and Andy fired up. Tyres up in smoke for both at the hit, and unfortunately that's an end to Andy's long and distinguished Top Fuel Dragster career. You'll be missed Andy and thanks for all the memories. Timo on a bye, Anita did not come round the corner from the staging lanes. Nice-looking run for Timo, looked quicker than the time which came up. 1.0306 to sixty feet, 3.7666/206.11 to the eighth, a couple of pedals after the eighth and shut off before the stripe. Urs elected not to run so that's the end of qualifying.

FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 4 (left lane first)

Oliver Azzopardi 6.2192/242.88 bye; Esko Raisvuo 13.7963/75.78 bye; Dave Wilson 5.5223/261.17, Derek Flynn 22.2802/31.07; Timo Habermann 11.5901/101.71, Paul Ingar Udtian 5.5608/250.43; Dennis Habermann 5.8303/252.40, Fred Hanssen 5.4022/260.55

0.9486 to sixty for Oliver, pedalled for about a second, 4.1410/177.76 at the eighth and into #8 spot bumping out Esko Raisvuo who was next to run. Esko's tyres up in smoke at the hit and he was shut off before the Tree. Eurodragster.com sponsor Derek's tyres up in smoke at the hit. No such problems for Grumpy, 0.9994 to sixty, 3.7018/217.93 at the eighth, candles lit all the way down the track and up into #5 spot. Timo's tyres up in smoke at the hit. 0.9379 to sixty for Paul Ingar, 3.6288/206.61 at the eighth, nice pass into the dark. Fantastic run for Fred to consolidate his #1 spot, 0.9330 to sixty, 3.5493/213.43 at the eighth, very close to the wall at the top end but stayed with it. 0.9474 to sixty for Dennis, sounded like problems changing gear as the motor grunted, 3.8781/197.95 at the eighth.

Final qualifying:

  1. Fred Hanssen 5.4022/260.55
  2. Dennis Habermann 5.4135/259.66

FIA Top Methanol Funny Car qualifying session 4 (left lane first)

Steph Milam 8.7429/166.08 bye; Jarmo Kuutniemi 6.3214/240.32, Rob Turner 14.5702/51.05; Dezsoe Krivan 7.7587/113.47, Danny Bellio 6.7471/151.11; Jürgen Nagel 7.1093/226.99, Ulf Leanders 5.6539/251.81;

Steph's wheelie bar wheel was actually in contact with the ground as the car was reversing from the burnout then moving into stage. Instant tyre spin at the hit, maybe the rear end unloading off the wheelie bar or at least contributory. One pedal, 1.4168 to sixty feet, more shake, then off the throttle. 1.0065 to sixty for Jarmo and 1.0428 for Rob then a shakefest, Rob's FC turned hard left and almost had the centre line and he got off the throttle. Jarmo pedalled and then stomped on it, 4.2523/185.04 at the eighth, no chutes, smoke from the brakes and then the safety teams mobilised as Jarmo's FC went into the field at the end of the track. Jarmo quite OK and the FC recovered very quickly. One of Danny's chutes deployed just past sixty feet 0.9822, Danny dragged it all the way, 4.0589/163.32 at the eighth. 1.0118 to sixty for Eurodragster.com sponsor Dez, 4.1909/143.71 at the eighth, close to the wall and off the gas just about that point. Fantastic run for Ulf, 0.9485 to sixty then driving through shake, 3.7110/201.98 at the eighth, the FC moving left and right but Ulf stayed with it, into #1 spot and the first half of a new European TMFC ET record into the bargain. Well done Ulf and Jörgen! Shake at the hit for Jürgen, pedal then back on the gas, 5.0112/181.41 at the eighth.

UEM Top Fuel Bike qualifying session 4 (left lane first)

Otto Knebl 13.7704/85.06 bye; Kev Charman 13.8785/51.26 bye; Petri Paljakka 12.1565/76.81, Sverre Dahl 9.1310/104.22; Steve Woollatt 22.0352/55.28, Steve Carey 6.7507/182.12; Ian King 12.9384/31.67, Peter Svensson 5.8817/224.40

1.1990 to sixty for Otto with the bike heading for the guardrail, shut it off and straightened it out, quick squirt again then idled down the track. 1.1442 to sixty for Kev then the bike threw its chain and the motor zinged briefly. Synchronised tyre shake and smoke for Petri and Sverre, both stayed on the throttle to about 300 feet with motors screaming before shutting off and idling through. Instant shake for Steve W, 1.4910 to sixty, shut it off very quickly. 1.0940 to sixty for Steve W, 4.3219/171.44 at the eighth, a brief feather of the throttle past half track as the bike moved towards the guardrail, then shut it off for good about 1100 feet out. Fantastic run for Peter Svensson! 1.0267 to sixty, 3.8767/202.00 at the eighth which presaged something really special, on the gas all the way, by far the quickest-ever European TFB pass and the first half of a new European record, well done Peter and Sören! Smoke at the top end, maybe smoking brakes, off the track safely. Ian hit shake at the hit and backed off, but on the up side he got a grandstand view of Peter's run.

Final qualifying:

  1. Peter Svensson 5.8817/224.40
  2. Ian King 6.2510/223.39
  3. Steve Woollatt 6.3469/211.90

Another bye for Greger. 1.1818 to sixty, 4.7718/155.25 at the eighth, up a few places but not enough to race tomorrow. Svein Olav's bike was making a rattling noise all the way in to stage, the motor cut out at the hit. Svein Olav spectating tomorrow. 1.1810 to sixty for Martijn, a hesitation in the motor towards the eighth 4.5921, improvement but no change in place and watching tomorrow. Improvements for both Roman and Vidar but both spectating tomorrow. 1,2877 sixty for Roman to Vidar's 1.1661 and an eighth of 4.8918 to Vidar's 4.8178. Both very straight runs down the middle of their lanes. New PB for Samu, 1.1601 to sixty and 4,4076/168.99 at the eighth, well done Samu! 1.2417 to sixty for Cannon, 4.7234/149.06 at the eighth. No improvements for either Ronny or Trond but another nice run for Ronny, 1.1813 to sixty and 4.4846/169.59 to the eighth. 1.1600 to sixty for Trond and 4.6869/155.75 at the eighth. Fantastic pairing between Mark and hans Olav, 1.1490 to sixty for Hans Olav to Mark's 1.2456, 4.3897/176.08 to the eighth to Mark's 4.4774/174.93, consistent pass for Hans Olav. Lo shut off on the line as the track crew spotted fluid in his lane. Job took the bye, 1.1303 to sixty and 4.3093/175.02 at the eighth, very straight run and up into #2 spot.

Alamo lane cleaned up, the very tall Monique Koedam made good use of less tall track announcer Darryl Bradford as a photo monopod as Per and Roel staged. Per's tyre up in smoke at the hit, tried to feather the throttle but to no avail, Roel's motor hesitated and threw out unburnt fuel, both shut off before 330 feet. Lo back for his bye after some cooling off time which included his crew who weren't happy at the late shut-off. Great pass for Lo on a cushion of nitro flames, 1.1449 to sixty feet, 4.3931/173.00 at the eighth.

Everyone in tomorrow as we are running a sixteen-bike ladder. Chris' bike sounded as if it was really struggling, 1.9073 to sixty and 9.0463 to the eighth, but he has a time on the board. Ray hadn't made his burnout when Mark was ready to stage and was signalled to shut off. 1.1676 to sixty for Mark, good-sounding run to that point then the motor hesitated and lost him some time. Nice 0.0923 RT for Martin N, left Timo for dead. 1.1522 to sixty to Timo's 1.1500, Timo looked to be catching then slowed down, off it about 1100 feet out. Risto couldn't get the car back in forward gear and shut off after the burnout, Kemmi took the bye. 0.8841 to sixty, the dragster hit shake and moved to the right and Kenni pedalled, 3.5224/240.15 at the eighth and shut off just past the eighth. 1.0242 to sixty for Arvid, 1.4136 for Steph, gentle launch. Arvid hit shake and pedalled past the Tree, 4.1745/147.90 at the eighth by which point his blower plate blew and the chutes deployed, the track crew had lots of small pieces to pick up off the track.

Rob Turner and Jarmo Kuutniemi next on track, but it started to rain as the came back from their burnouts.

Twenty minutes' or so break and we were back in action. Superb pairing between Ulf and Dez, 0.9583 to sixty for Ulf and 1.0181 for Dez, both driving through shake, Ulf's car moving all over its lane but he wasn't getting off it for anything. 3.7574/198.82 at the eighth for Ulf, 4.0885/180.48 for Dez getting close to the centre line. Ulf into #1 spot at that point. Concern from the track crew right up to the point that Danny and Jürgen staged but in they went. 1.0035 to sixty for Danny and 1.1607 for Jürgen, Danny's car made a hard move to the left but he hung on to it with just the slightest of pedals. 3.8854/191.97 at the eighth for Danny, 4.1907/192.61 for Jürgen whose FC made a move for the centre line then smoke from the motor as he got off it. Tyres up in smoke at the hit, a couple of pedals, 1.4650 to sixty and 4.9900/177.12 at the eighth. 14.31 mph came up as the speed which I am guessing was wrong unless Jarmo had both hands on the brake.

Track all Ok so hopefully no harm done. Sverre's rear tyre up in smoke, tried to ride it out but shut off eventually. 1.1134 to sixty for Kev, 4.4513/166.55 at the eighth. Hello to MSA Pro Mod Championship PR Robin Jackson who can't be here today, hope the coverage is a reasonable substitute Robin. Good morning also to Johnny Simonsson who is tuned in from Sweden, good to hear from you Johnny and good to hear you are enjoying the reports.

Quicker than 7.4 and, as I understand it, Frosty is in; subject to official word of course. 1.2166 to sixty feet, 4.7622/157.93 at the eighth. We'll put him in the standings for now, well done Frosty! Very brief burnout for Wayne. 1.0557 to sixty for Wayne, but the Vette was moving left under power and almost touched the centre line. A pedal and back on the power and moved to the left again. Eurodragster.com and Pro Mod Challenge sponsor Marco next. 1.0801 to sixty, looked from here like a gentle tune-up to get a number on the board. 4,3923/171.54 at the eighth. Great run for Robert, 0.9930 to sixty feet and 4.0747/178.13 at the eighth, a move to the right just past the eighth but Robert had it covered. His best in this car I believe. Linda hit shake before the Tree and shut off. 1.0687 to sixty for Norbert and 1.0887 for Jean, Norbert had the much better eighth 4.1932 to 4.6340, Norbert's motor singed about 1000 feet out and he shut off. 1.1483 to sixty for Roger, 4.4578/166.68 at the eighth, very straight run. Nick's tyres spun at the hit, 1.2672 to sixty and shut off at that point. 1.0230 to sixty for Bruno, small shake which he drove through, 4.0903/179.80 at the eighth and up to #3. Eurodragster.com sponsor Andy hit shake almost immediately, 1.0813 at sixty, looked like two cylinders went out and shut off. Rolf lead for dead at the Tree by Bert 0.5783 to 1.0902. 1.1009 to sixty for Bert, minor shake marks in his lane, 1.1034 for Rolf. Rolf was chasing Bert down all the way and really picked up afet mid-track, 4.3644/168.55 at the eighth to Bert's 4.6517/155.29. Bert up to #15 but no improvement for Rolf. Shake for both David and Eurodragster.com sponsor Graham, Graham recovered it by pedalling whilst David gave it up. Graham's Cuda headed for the centre line but he pulled it away, 4.5762/157.86 at the eighth and into the ladder at that point. 1.0342 to sixty for Roger and 1.0519 for Mats, Mats pedalled for shake, 4.1524/179.80 to the eighth for Roger to Mats' shake-affected 4.4199/170.74. Roger already safely in, Mats up from #20 to #13 at that point.

Super Pro ET qualifying session 7

Final qualifier for Super Pro ET; their eliminations commence after Pro Q4 today.

John Atkinson up from #21 to #8 in the third pair. Three pairs later and Dave Gibbons moved up from #5 to #2 - it's like he never went away. Superb 330-foot burnout from Marck Harteveld before his match-up with Mathijs Kraetzer. Thomas Stiefel achieved both his aims in one run, 6.894/200.57 from the pretty Chevy, on a 7.00 dial-in but who cares about that when you go six and 200. Well done Thomas! Dave Catton up from #17 to #4 in the last pair of the session alongside car owner Nick Good.

Good morning and welcome from Santa Pod Raceway for our coverage of the FIA European Finals brought to you in association with Alamo Rent-A-Car.

The Webster Race Engineering/Nimbus Motorsport webcam will be broadcasting live video and trackside audio as long as the track is open. Julian of Nitro FM has traced and cured the source of the hum in the background of the audio, and Chief Timekeeper Steve Horn is going to install a solution to yesterday's webcam freeze which happened late in the day. The solution is to drill a hole in just the right place. Once that has been done we will have to stop the webcam for a few moments.

Right now it's overcast, but the cloud is low and beginning to burn off.

A few Good Mornings, firstly to our good buddies Markus and Mathias at der Beschleuniger, hope you guys are well and enjoying the coverage. We have also received nice E-Mails from Erwin Raets, John Andrews and Anne Llewellyn - to whom thanks for spotting yesterday's best mistake. Hello all and thanks for writing.

We are due to start at 9:00 with the start of cycle 7 of qualifying. Pro sessions are due at 10:30 and 14:45. Stay tuned and as soon as the wheels start to turn we'll bring you the news.
