Pro ET qualifying session 6

Big moves for Pel Norman and Gino Bernadine in this session. Apologies for the lack of detailed commentary on this session, we were dealing with the mysterious freezing webcam. We think we've got to the bottom of that one: the solution is to ask the Race Director to stop running Top Fuel Dragster.

FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 2 (left lane first)

Micke Kågered 5.6394/177.14, Kenni Neergaard 10.7179/87.52; Patrik Pers 18.9613/36.22, Andy Carter 13.2490/86.35; Jari Halinen 21.4400/46.04, Anita Mäkelä 4.9162/253.42; Risto Poutiainen 16.1656/67.02, Urs Erbacher 4.9264/308.45; Timo Lehtimäki 7.5352/114.63 bye

0.8816 sixty for Kenni, shaking past the Tree and shut off about 200 feet out. 0.9389 to sixty for Micke, 2.3819 to 330 feet then a bang and smoke and off the throttle at half track, the car behaved as if the blower belt had broken but then a lot of smoke from the motor all the way down the shutdown area. All of the kit was mobilised for clean-up at the top end.

One quick clean-up later, Patrik and Andy took to the track. Andy has Fuel legend Peter Lantz working with him at this event, in a shirt slightly too small for him and which he had not done up since when he walked too close to Andy's motor the header blast blew it open and we and the viewing thousands on the webcam were vouchsafed a view of Peter's stomach. Both cars up in smoke at the hit; a bang, sparks, brief ball of flame and huge heat haze from Patrik's motor. A pedal from Andy and then idled along the track. Jari's tyres up in smoke, 1.3769 to sixty, and he played no further part in things. 0.8879 for Anita, driving through shake, 3.2696/252.78 at the eighth and shut it off at 1000 feet or thereabouts. Anita into #1 spot. Instant smoke for Risto, flash of flame from the motor amidst the smoke, and shut it off. 0.9030 to sixty for Eurodragster.com sponsor Urs, 3.3562/251.40 at the eighth. Very consistent pass with Urs' Q1 performance. Initially looked like problems getting reverse for Timo, the car seeming reluctant to move, but all sorted and Timo made it back. 0.9087 to sixty, car started to drift to the left, a pedal and from here it looked as if the blower belt broke, the car behaved that way. 3.9446/150.50 at the eighth.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Anita Mäkelä 4.9162/253.42
  2. Stig Neergaard 4.9175/249.61
  3. Urs Erbacher 4.9226/287.78

  7. Jari Halinen 10.0674/86.35
  8. Kenni Neergaard 10.7179/87.52

FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 2 (left lane first)

Dave Wilson 5.6997/261.16 bye; Oliver Azzopardi 11.9057/67.11, Monty Bugeja 6.9940/143.91; Esko Raisvuo 6.5996/244.06, Paul Ingar Udtian 5.5366/251.96; Timo Habermann shut off, Derek Flynn 5.5236/263.73; Dennis Habermann 5.4135/259.66, Fred Hanssen 5.4745/260.02

100-foot burnout for Grumpy. Rolled the beams very slightly before hitting it which will have affected the ET, 1.0532 to sixty feet and 3.8737/213.08 at the eighth, up to sixth place at that point. Our two Maltese heroes next up. Big holeshot for Oliver 0.0707 to 0.4102 but tyres up in smoke at the hit again. 1.1679 to sixty to Monty's 1.0388, Monty on a good run to start with but sounded like the car stuck in second gear and Monty was off the gas at about half track. Oliver was off the throttle before the eighth having smoked the tyres all the way there. Esko's tyres didn't light too well in the burnout. Storming 0.9375 to sixty for Paul Ingar, 3.6164/206.62 at the eighth and up into #2 spot. Lazy 1.2388 sixty for Esko, 4.5544/184.98 at the eighth, an improvement but stayed in #8 spot. Timo left a huge trail of fuel along the track during his burnout and was shut off on the way back, pulled over to the guardrail. Eurodragster.com sponsor Derek took the bye, rolled the beams very slightly and the motor sounded to misfire just a touch at the hit before clearing itself. 1.0302 to sixty, 3.7057/214.73 at the eighth, up into second. Fred deep-staged which will have added to his ET. 0.9291 sixty for Dennis, 0.9826 for Fred, Dennis to the eighth in 3.5407/210.90 to Fred's 3.6159/212.53. Dennis into #2 and Fred stays #1.

Fantastic run for Ulf to begin with, 0.9836 to sixty, driving through about 100 feet of shake starting by the Tree, 3.7462/201.10 at the eighth, then smoke from the motor and the blower panel popped at about 1000 feet. Still into #1 spot though, what would that run have been?! Terrible shake for Arvid and shut off past the Tree. 1.1101 to sixty for Steph, 4.0048/190.11 at the eighth, new PB or close to it, well done Steph! Jarmo hit appalling shake at the hit, was off the throttle very quickly and idled down track. Another fantastic run for Rob, 1.0273 to sixty, 3.8525/195.86 to the eighth, blown away his Funny Car PB again, well done Rob, Steve and the guys! 1.0595 to sixty for Eurodragster.com sponsor Dez but then hit bad shake and shut it off. Superb run for Danny, a new PB, 0.9631 to sixty feet, 3.7972/196.79 to the eighth, the car fishtailing but Danny stayed with it and went into #1 spot, well done Danny! Bad shake for Jürgen, 1.4987 to sixty, pedalled, got back on it. 5.1363/164.85 to the eighth, an improvement but stayed in place.

1.2279 to sixty for Otto, heading for the centre line, shut it off before 300 feet then gave it another brief squirt. Great run for Kev, front wheel up and down a couple of times, 1.1326 to soxty and 4.4874/167.91 at the eighth, up to #3. Sverre's motor sounded to zing in his very brief burnout but all OK I guess as he made his run. rear tyre up in smoke at the hit for Sverre, a long second burnout then feathered the throttle and back on it. 1.1896 to sixty for Ian, visible course correction at the eighth 4.2221/181.91 and off the throttle in the second eighth. Steve W's tyre up in smoke at the hit, he gave it a couple of goes then shut off. Meanwhile a great pass for Steve C, 1.0847 to sixty, 4.2589/169.46 at the eighth but then smoke at about 1200 feet and Steve's motor zinged, I am guessing a belt broke. Cannon up to #8 at that point. Great-looking run for Ronny to start with, 1.1181 to sixty and 4.3757 at the eighth but then the front wheel thumped down and Ronny got off the throttle. 1.1865 to sixty for Trond, 4.7452 at the eighth, improvement but stayed in place. 1.2045 to sixty for Mark but looked like a clyinder out, a feather of the throttle but the cylinder stayed out and he shut it off. 1.1840 to sixty for Hans Olav, 4,5310/168.97 at the eighth. Hans Olav improved but stayed in place on the ladder. 1.1641 to sixty for Lo, 1.1345 for Job, 4.3830 to the eighth for Lo to Job's 4.3881, two great runs and in Lo's case very consistent.

FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Kenni Neergaard no time, Patrik Pers 21.2336/28.91; Stig Neergaard 4.9175/249.61, Jari Halinen 10.0674/86.35; Andy Carter 19.6421/43.43 bye, Micke Kågered shut off; Urs Erbacher 4.9226/287.78, Risto Poutiainen 8.1873/167.91; Anita Mäkelä 5.0413/252.39, Timo Lehtimäki 5.2673/252.00

As we go into Top Fuel Dragster a thought for the memory of four-second hero Kent Persson who recently passed away. This weekend's coverage is dedicated to Kent's memory; so long as we are thinking of Kent he is here with us. All of the TFs here this weekend are carrying Jarmo Pulkkinen's decal in Kent's honour.

Hello to Eurodragster.com Photo Kit sponsor Karsten Andersen who is having the unusual and definitely unwelcome experience of watching Eurodragster.com Event Coverage in real time. Hope you are enjoying the coverage if you can Karsten and we really wish that you and the guys were here.

Here we go then, quite possibly the last quarter mile TF race in Europe. Kenni and Patrik both have recent good form, most recently at Hockenheim in Kenni's case. Patrik's tyres up in smoke at the hit, 1.1710 to sixty and he shut off immediately, the car threw something into the air, either a cable tie or some rubber from the slick. 1.0367 to sixty for Kenni and his motor stopped dead, maybe the kill switch although there are no shake marks in his lane. Kenni pulled over and stopped about 400 feet out and the dragster was pushed back to the collection area. Great run to start with for Stig, 0.8655 to sixty, right bank was burning green so head gasket burning I guess. Carried on regardless, 3.2479/254.87 at the eighth, then a small puff of smoke from the motor, then suddenly Stig's dragster disappeared behind a huge cloud of white smoke. Safety crews chased Stig down the shutdown area. Jari's dragster slow away from the line, 1.3604 to sixty feet, shake as he got to the Tree and off it about 200 feet out.

Very quick clean-up, well done to the track crew. Bizarre goings-on yesterday after we ran the piece about Andy quitting Team West-Tec; we received an E-Mail requiring us to remove the piece since it wasn't correct, but to make a long story short Andy told us it was correct so we didn't remove the piece; Andy's car is not carrying West-Tec decals today so I'd say we called that one right. Micke's puke tank bizarrely blew off after he returned from the burnout and so Andy took the bye. Tyres up in smoke at the hit but boy did Andy's motor sound strong. 1.1658 to sixty feet and off the throttle immediately.

Clean-up from Micke's moment complete, Eurodragster.com sponsor Urs and Risto faced off. 0.9622 to sixty for Urs, 3.3575/250.75 at the eighth, blackstriping all the way and off it about 1200 feet. Weird run for Risto, 1.4360 to soxty and 5,4459/141.68 at the eighth, the car behaving as if the burnout throttle stop was on. Next up the two nominal leaders in the Championship chase whilst we await news of TJ's points deduction. Scary-looking run for Timo, 0.9271 to sixty, starting to drift right by the eighth 3.4659/232.06, looked from here as if Timo crossed the outside boundary line and maybe just gently tagged the wall, if so then the run will be DQ'd but we'll await word on that... and word came that the run stands. 0.0940 RT for Anita, straight run to begin with, 3.3934/250.77 at the eighth and then close to the wall herself in the second eighth.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Stig Neergaard 4.9175/249.61
  2. Urs Erbacher 4.9226/287.78

  5. Risto Poutiainen 8.1873/167.91
  6. Jari Halinen 10.0674/86.35

FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Oliver Azzopardi 7.1090/232.43 DQ bye; Monty Bugeja 5.8410/245.55, Esko Raisvuo 6.8570/242.54; Paul Ingar Udtian 5.6210/255.13, Dennis Habermann 5.6401/254.66; Derek Flynn 5.5454/265.62, Timo Habermann 5.6720/247.88; Fred Hanssen 5.4099/264.08, Dave Wilson 12.6791/85.38;

Oliver had a wretched time here at Santa Pod at the FIA Main Event so here's hoping for better luck this weekend. The US' Randy Anderson again consulting with Oliver's team. As Oliver moved forward towards stage Will Hanna appeared out of nowhere and started to walk towards the car pulling a spanner out of his pocket... was he about to do a Tonya Harding? I thought Grumpy was the main points rival. Whatever it was, Will thought better of it and put the spanner back in his pocket. Tyres up in smoke at the hit, the briefest of pedals, 1.2634 to sixty feet with the tyres hazing, Oliver stayed on the throttle all the way with tyres smoking and engine screaming, 4.9493/173.74 at the eighth, black stripes way past the finish line. Driving with the courage for which the Maltese are well-known. Oliver's Maltese fellow Monty next to the line alongside Esko. Esko started to roll the beams then hit the throttle, that will have affected his ET. 0.9868 to sixty for Monty, 3.8474/196.25 at the eighth, straight down the middle of the lane and a very pleased Joe Carabott and team. Nice work Charlie and Gittli! 1.3960 to sixty for Esko, a cylinder out all the way, 4.7976/181.89 at the eighth. Huge burnout for Paul Ingar, stopped about 1000 feet out whilst Dennis is here on the back of a storming test pass on Wednesday. 1.0391 to sixty for Paul Ingar and 1.0094 for Dennis, Dennis hit shake which he drove through even though the dragster made a move to the right, 3.7166/207.04 to the eighth for Paul Ingar and Dennis only slightly slower at 3.7173/204.74. Paul Ingar into #1 and Dennis into #2. Timo away first 0.0927 to 0.1177, the better sixty foot time 0.9538 to 1.1009, huge speed difference between the two cars at the eighth 3.6984/201.09 for Timo to Eurodragster.com sponsor Derek's 3.7485/221.15, Derek overheuled Timo and got there first by 0.1016 and into #1 spot at that point. Grumpy's tyres up in smoke at the hit, 1.1057 to sixty but off the throttle by then. Fantastic run for Fred, 0.9325 to sixty, 3.5661/212.90 at the eighth and into #1 spot which has done his Championship plans no harm at all.

Oliver's run was subsequently DQ'd as the car was found to be underweight.

Qualifying after this session:

  2. Derek Flynn 5.5454/265.62

FIA Top Methanol Funny Car qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Steph Milam 8.9692/151.57, Dezsoe Krivan 8.7476/132.94; Rob Turner 5.9861/237.78, Jürgen Nagel 8.0560/113.06; Danny Bellio 5.8587/240.32, Jarmo Kuutniemi 10.4053/99.65; Ulf Leanders 9.6104/90.16, Arvid Grødem 20.4841/33.63;

Hello to Mike Chalke and Emily Clarke who are tuned in from British Columbia to check on the progress of their former team, Turner Motorsport.

Will Hanna providing input to Deszoe's team this weekend. Instant smoke then shake for Eurodragster.com sponsor Dez, 1.3429 to sixty, big pedal and back on it, 5.5965/137.78 at the eighth. Steph's FC left the line very slowly, 1.5208 to sixty and 5.8201/124.76 to the eighth. Fantastic run for Rob, new PB in the Funny Car and the first UK TMFC into the fives. 1.0666 to sixty, 3.9246/191.24 at the eighth, great-looking run blackstriping all the way, well done Turner Motorsport! 1.1387 to sixty for Jürgen, the FC made a move to the right, 4.4899/138.63 at the eighth and shut off by then. Great run for Danny, 0.9742 to sixty, driving through shake, 3.8271/196.15 at the eighth. Spin then shake for Jarmo, 1.4871 to sixty and feathering the throttle, off it by the eighth 6.3449/111.67. Danny's chutes shredded into several pieces and came off as they deployed but Danny got it stopped. 1.0168 to sixty for Ulf but then huge shake, a pedal and shut off. Huge shake at the hit for Arvid, actually saw the right side of the car from our office in Race Control. Both off the throttle and idled through.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Danny Bellio 5.8587/240.32
  2. Rob Turner 5.9861/237.78

UEM Top Fuel Bike qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Otto Knebl 10.8787/109.08 DQ bye; Kev Charman 9.5524/85.38 bye; Steve Carey 11.9715/82.12, Steve Woollatt 6.3469/211.90; Sverre Dahl 13.7937/59.20, Petri Paljakka 6.4238/217.96; Peter Svensson 9.8294/84.11, Ian King 6.9404/180.64;

Otto's first competitive outing on what was originally Brian Johnson's bike. Feather of the throttle on launch, 1.5717 to sixty, on and off the throttle all the way, to the eighth in 6.6029/93.91. Run DQ'd for a Blue Line violation. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire flew up the track as Kev was pushed back from his burnout, what a great sight. 1.1223 to sixty for Kev, going great guns but then about 300 feet out the motor zinged and a number of pieces came off the bike, maybe bodywork. Brief squirt of a burnout for Steve C whilst Steve W went to the Tree, vstately and nicely-controlled burnout. Great run for Steve W, made it look very easy! 1.0704, rode through shake past the Tree, 4.1173/179.63 at the eighth. Tyre up in smoke for Steve C, a long feather of the throttle, 7.1975/100.60 at the eighth, just motoring by that point. Instant smoke for Sverre, feathered the throttle then off it and motored through. 1.1038 to sixty for Petri, shake for about 100 feet but he stayed with it, 4.2183/179.62 at the eighth. New PB I believe, if so then well done Petri! Peter left Ian for dead at the Tree 0.1460 to 0.9905, 1.0593 sixty foot for Peter and 1.1891 for Ian, Peter's motor made a groaning noise and he shut off about 300 feet out as something came off the bike. A feather of the throttle for Ian and something looked to come off his bike also but he stayed with it, 4.4859/164.27 at the eighth, took #3 spot.

Instant shake for Roman and feathered the throttle. 1.2211 to sixty for Martijn, front wheel up in the air a very long way. 4.9959/158.49 to the eighth for Martin to Roman's feathered 7.5181/98.34. FIA Pro Stock qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Ulf Wagnhester 6.9867/196.39, Conrad Stanley 18.4080/79.95; Tommy Leindahl 28.8185/23.23, Jonas Dantanus 8.2760/195.49; Micke Callin 23.6166/31.69, Richard Sundblom 7.3393/198.94; Michael Malmgren 25.6118/26.72, Sampsa Palos no time; Thomas Lindströ 6.7724/203.50 DQ, Jimmy Ålund 6.7503/204.28;

Instant spin for Conrad and he shut off and idled down the track. 1.0638 to sixty for Ulf, 4.5031/156.16 at the eighth, very close to his PB to open his account. A fair faff with Jonas' wheelie bars before staging, Chief Starter Ian Marshall asked the crew to hurry it up a bit and then pretty much ordered them to stage the car. Dante staged first out of courtesy. Instant shake for both, Tommy got to sixty in 1.3002 but by then was already shut off and idled down the track. 1.8527 to sixty for Jonas also with shake which made the motor scream, long pedal then back on the throttle, 5.7501/153.21 at the eighth. Same story for Micke as for Tommy, huge shake and motor went quiet, idled down the track. Shake for Richard too but a brief pedal, 1.1594 to sixty feet and 4.8438/156.90 at the eighth. Appalling shake for both Michael and Sampsa, 1.2586 to sixty for Michael and 2.9390 for Sampsa, both motors quiet after about a second. Michael got to the end on momentum, Sampsa eventually fired up and drove it down the track. Thomas' run DQ'd for a blue line violation, a member of the crew fiddling with the wheelie bars whilst Thomas was past the blue line, another member of the team took a huge handful of the guy's shirt and yanked him away but it was too late to redeem the run. 1.0123 to sixty for Jimmy driving through shake, 4.3474/162.81 at the eighth and into #1 spot.

Licencing pass for Eurodragster.com Blogger Frosty. Lost fire briefly after the burnout. Gently off the line, 1.4395 to sixty feet, then hammered it about 150 feet out, 5.0412/159.04 at the eighth. We'll put Frosty in the standings on the assumption that he has gained his licence. Tyres up in smoke at the hit for Bert, 1.3793 to sixty feet, a pedal and back on it, 5.2583/159.65 at the eighth, the Coupe moving left and right but Bert stayed with it. David shut it off and idled down the track, Marcus pedalled and got back on it, 6.2560/146.25 at the eighth. Bad shake for Roger, 1.2133 to sixty and already shut off. 1.3711 to sixty for Eurodragster.com sponsor Marco, bad shake and a pedal then back on it, 5.6616/146.70 to the eighth and shut off before the stripe. The clocks timed out before Roger got to the quarter. Huge twitch from Robert's Camaro as he got off the burnout. Shake for Robert, a very brief pedal and the car just hooked up and went, 1.1640 to sixty and 4.2697/177.75 at the eighth. Tyres up in smoke and a hard left turn at the hit for Eurodragster.com sponsor Andy, 1.3045 to sixty, pedalled it and then stood on the gas, 4.8487/175.04 at the eighth. Some spin for Urban at the hit, 1.2664 to sixty but the Vette hooked up and got going, 4.3557/175.62 at the eighth, straight run. Instant shake for Mats, 1.7323 at sixty, off the throttle after another stab but the Victoria was bouncing up and down quite violently. Best sixty so far of 1.0337 for Marc, a move to the left but he hung on to the car and stayed with it, 4.3783/171.53 at the eighth. Instant spin for Johan, 1.2363 at sixty, a pedal and then the Firebird really picked up as something cane off the car, 4.4304/183.98 at the eighth. Storming 0.9850 to sixty for Micke, but then shake and a move to the right, Micke pedalled and got back on it, 4.3700/155.00 at the eighth but the Camaro was still moving about the lane and he shut it off past the eighth. 1.0726 to sixty for Bruno and the best eighth of the session, 4.1769/179.03, into #1 spot.

Super Pro ET qualifying session 5

Rainier van Schelt up from #17 to #9 in the fourth pair, the car made a move to the left in the lights. Al Didwell into the ladder a few pairs later, #37 to #24. We believe a new PB for Nick George, 7.915 but on a 7.92 dial-in, the crew looked happy enough. Darren Law next into the ladder, #35 to #30. Joe Stevens and John Everitt shut off side-by-side for fluid leaks in the burnout, John leaving a small trail to about 200 feet. Joe got his leak plugged and ran immediately after the clean-up. Next pair and Scott Hauser moved up from #31 to #24 going right-side of dial-in. The top 22 separated by 0.099 at that point. Another nice run for Guido Uhlir, up from #26 to #20.

Have a great day Pelle.

Right now it's overcast, a gentle breeze but not cold. The track is looking good and right now the timing crew are doing the rollout.

A big Hello to our dear and much-missed friend Gittli Koller who couldn't make the race. Wish you were here Gittli, consider yourself hugged and a big Hello to Michael also. Good morning also to our buddy, and quite possibly the biggest fan of our Event Coverage, Ivar Kolberg who is tuned in from Norway... what do you mean "Which bit", all of him of course. Hope you are having a good day Ivar. Morning greetings also to Beppie Verboom and Paul Castle who are enjoying the webcam from The Netherlands, and to David O'Callaghan who is tuned in from the USA. Have a good day guys.

As well as the usual Thank Yous to Darren Prentice for accommodation and to Team Nutritionist Syd McDonald for breakfast and lunch we must also thank Andy and Janet Barrack who presented the Eurodragster.com team with several slabs of Kendall Mint Cake to keep our energy up. Your reporter having had Man Flu since last Saturday this went down particularly well, thanks guys.

We are due to start at 9:00 with the start of cycle 5 of qualifying plus the end of Super Street Bike Q4. Pro sessions are due at 10:30 and 14:30. Stay tuned and as soon as the wheels start to turn we'll bring you the news.
