We have now posted today's pictures, which you can view via the Event Index page. There are 150 pictures in all; if you do not see all 150 thumbnails when you load the page then click on your Browser's Refresh button. The pictures are by Roger and Ed but are in chronological order rather than separated so there are some instances of pictures of two pictures of the same vehicle next to one another - different angles of course.

We are also indebted to Andrea Kloss for giving us an additional picture of Rolf Ammann's unfortunate encounter with the Christmas Tree.

Eliminations are due to start at 9:00 am in the morning so tune back then and we'll bring you all the news.

20:45

Fuel Funny Car session 2 (left lane first):

Gordon Smith no time, John Spuffard 6.2345/223.42;

Gordon lost drive at the hit and idled down the track. 0.9191 to sixty feet for Spuff, huge shake at the Tree and he took a long pedal, then gave it another couple of goes then shut off as the car headed for the guardrail.

Martin closed out the day with a 5.9037/269.81 in the Fireforce 3 Jet FC.

We are now going to work on today's pictures but as dinner is also on the list of jobs it may be a while before we post. Stay tuned.

Trackside conditions at the start of this session were 13.0 C, 55% humidity and 29.59 inches of air, track temperature 16.1 C.

Wild ride for Bert, 1.1000 sixty foot time then the big Coupe started to move around its lane, the moves getting ever more violent until he almost took out the top end reflectors, just pulling the car clear in the very last moment. A pedalfest in the next pair as both Jan and Wayne hit shake, Wayne got very close to the centre line and then the car made a violent move when he hit is again after getting it straight. Big pedal in the middle of the run for Jan but he got into tomorrow's ladder. Two of this season's Championship favourtites next and both not qualified going into the run. No worries now! 0.0916 RT for Mats to Micke's 0.0913, 1.0198 to sixty for Mats to Micke's 1.0038, Mats to the eighth in 4.0981 and Micke 4.0428 and Mats there first and into second spot by 0.0152. Marcus shut off before the eighth, sounded as if he lost drive, Henri was all over his lane and close to the wall and won't be racing tomorrow. Kev's blower belt broke in the burnout. Roger took the bye, 1.0049 to sixty feet, a little pedal or two, 4.1474/167.22 at the eighth with flames from the exhausts - looked like a conservative run from here. 0.089 RT for Urban, 1.0744 to sixty feet, Terje to sixty feet in 1.0239. Urban hit shake and took out the 330 foot reflector, Terje looked to back off as he saw Urban coming. Urban got it back into his lane and drove through and then Terje hit the throttle again. Another pedalfest with Marko and Melanie, Marko hit shake before the Tree and pedalled, meanwhile Melanie got to sixty feet in 0.9704 then hit shake, pedalled and got to the eighth in 4.1505/181.22. Both the R2B2 Camaro and Marko's 'Vette were moving about their lanes but both stayed with it. 0.0611 RT for Micke L but then the Camaro hit shake and took out the 330 foot reflector, Micke pulled it back into his lane then shut off. 1.1391 to sixty feet for Marco, looked to be shutting it off at the eighth, 4.5160/157.19. Tremendous run for Bruno, 0.0633 to sixty, 3.9764/183.25 at the eighth and the chutes out before the traps. 0.9804 to sixty feet for Adam but then hit bad shake and headed for the centre line so Adam shut off. Eurodragster.com sponsors paired up next, Andy and team having cleaned the car inside and out after an oil bath previous round. 0.9983 to sixty feet for Graham, 3.9697/185.63 to the eighth, taking the long way round into #1 spot so there is more to come there. Well done Graham! 1.0228 to sixty for Andy, driving through shake, 3.9880/180.58 at the eighth, smoke from the Stude but Andy stayed with it and up into #3 spot. Graham's lead lasted one run, 0.9896 to sixty for Johan, 3.9370/187.04 at the eighth, is that the quickest ever European Pro Mod eighth? 0.0795 to sixty for Freddy, the truck moving around its lane but you know Freddy, he wasn't going to get off it. 4.1350/167.14 at the eighth but then had to shut off as the pick-up got into a big bounce in the second half.

FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Esko Raisvuo 5.7746/256.69 bye; Krister Johansson 5.5274/253.69, Paul Ingar Udtian 5.5061/254.70; Dennis Habermann 5.5099/253.82, Dave Wilson 5.4265/265.27; Timo Habermann 5.4676/258.02, Peter Schöfer 5.4044/259.05; Derek Flynn did not start, Fred Hanssen 5.4825/246.40 bye

Lazy sixty foot time for Esko, 1.0548 then the car picked right up, 3.8974/209.04 to the eighth, not a good enough pass to get into eliminations tomorrow but if you consider that a few days ago Esko wasn't even driving this weekend he will be happy enough. Great pass between Krister and Paul Ingar. Excellent 0.0533 RT for Paul Ingar and 0.9247 to sixty feet to Krister's 0.9961, Paul had the better eighth 3.5988/207.55 to Krister's 3.7006 at a big 216.89. Krister was trying to reel in Paul Ingar but didn't make it, Paul first by 0.0797. Paul Ingar up to #4 and Krister up to #5. Grumpy took Burnout of the Day after the tyres didn't light in session 1, boiling those hides. 0.9743 to sixty feet for Grumpy to Dennis' 0.9278 but boy did the Silverline Tools car pick up some speed by the eighth, a huge 220.72 in 3.6404 to Dennis' quicker but slower 3.6042/206.09. Looked from here as if Grumpy shut off just a touch early. 0.8943 sixty foot time for Timo to Peter's 0.9144, Peter had the better eighth 3.5426/210.44 to Timo's 3.5947/209.91, Peter there first by 0.0013 or 5.903 inches. Derek went back to the pits without starting, happy with his place I guess. 0.0225 RT for Fred, 0.9275 sixty foot time, 3.5392/207.77 at the eighth then smoke from the right bank of headers, Kirstie sat next to me here in Race Control saw something come off Fred's car at the eighth.

  2. Peter Schöfer 5.4044/259.05

FIA Top Methanol Funny Car qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Rob Turner 7.4842/175.07 bye; Steph Milam 8.6757/153.11 bye; Arvid Grødem shut off bye; Dan Larsen 5.7965/248.13, Jürgen Nagel 6.3078/165.48

Wild burnout for Rob as the car turned hard right but to be honest I think he was just hazing photographer Andy Willsheer who was stood right there and who has experience of Funny Cars on final approach. Sounded to be driving through the clutch a bit, 1.1997 to sixty feet, 4.8313/152.12 at the eighth, feathering the throttle. I am guessing a final checkout pass before going for it in the morning. Strange run for Steph as the car bounced away from the start line and didn't settle down for a couple of hundred feet. 5.6522/132.06 at the eighth and bouncing more towards the end, shut off before the stripe. Arvid shut off on the way back from the burnout. Tremendous pass for Dan, 0.9513 to sixty feet, driving through shake, 3.7993/196.22 at the eighth and into #1 spot by a long way. Nice start to the run for Jürgen, 0.9348 to sixty feet, heading for the centre line but staying with it, 3.7818/193.38 at the eighth but then the blower plate blew and punted the body panel way into the air. Still a pass good for #3 though.

Final qualifying:

  1. Dan Larsen 6.1180/192.87
  2. Arvid Grødem 6.2542/226.48
  3. Jürgen Nagel 6.3078/165.48
  4. Danny Bellio 7.2581/130.91
  5. Rob Turner 7.4842/175.07
  6. Steph Milam 7.5061/198.84

19:15

FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Stig Neergaard 4.8519/no speed bye; Andy Carter 8.0146/no speed, Risto Poutiainen 4.8013/292.71; Anita Mäkelä 10.5707/76.82, Micke Kågered 4.9918/247.84; Jari Halinen 5.0901/no speed, Urs Erbacher 4.7548/319.31

0.9459 to sixty feet for Stig, driving through shake, 3.3211 at a huge 259.93 at the eighth, staying with it to about 1200 feet and into #1 spot but then no chute until the very end of the shutdown area, got it stopped and off the track OK though. 95.09 terminal speed displayed on the timing system, I think not. Risto's engine was popping and banging as the crew tried to start it but it cleared eventually. 0.0835 RT for Risto to Andy's 0.0996, storming sixty foot time for Risto 0.8570 to Andy's far from shabby 0.8701. Andy hit shake, pedalled and the Lucas Oil dragster's tyres went up in smoke and the car turned hard right so he shut off. 3.2476/251.38 to the eighth for Risto, blackstriping most of the way, shutting off at about 1200 feet as the car made a move to the right. Good for #1 spot though. 12.70 shown as Andy's terminal speed. 0.9138 to sixty for Anita, shake and a pedal then off the throttle. 0.0918 RT for Micke, 0.8968 to sixty feet, 3.3153/247.27 at the eighth with wing-high header flames clearly visible, blackstriping in the second eighth and shut off at 1000 feet or so. Tremendous pass for Eurodragster.com sponsor Urs! 0.8871 to sixty feet, driving through clearly visible shake, 3.2459 at a huge 261.58 at the eighth, hung on to it as the car made a move for the centre line at the top end. The second-highest terminal speed ever in FIA competition (Håkan Nilsson went 319.57 at Gardermoen in 2006) and Urs is on the first half of a new European speed record, well done Urs! 0.9075 to sixty for Jari and 3.4054/241.38 at the eighth, looked to be hazing the tyres in the second half and shut off as the car made a move for the centre line. Looked close between the two cars from here.

Final qualifying:

  1. Urs Erbacher 4.7548/319.31
  2. Risto Poutiainen 4.8013/292.71
  3. Stig Neergaard 4.8519/no speed

1.0236 to sixty feet for Tommy, 4.5608/156.25 at the eighth, sounded to run out of juice in the last half. 0.0860 RT for Richard, 1.0510 to sixty feet and 4.5601/157.75 at the eighth. Great run for Jonas, 1.0080 to sixty feet and 4.4099/159.89 at the eighth, into second place. Harald's Mercedes hesitated off the line but then picked up, 151.09 at the eighth. 1.0055 to sixty feet for Micke but sounded as if he had trouble selecting a gear and he was off the throttle before the eighth. Great 0.0274 RT for Michael, 1.0308 to sixty feet to Jan's 1.0394, 4.3701/161.06 at the eighth to Jan's 4.5096/157.25, Jan had the chutes out in the traps.

Kev's bike hesitated off the line, and looked like a checkout pass from here. Mike Olie's motor stopped before the burnout but under the rules he was allowed to restart. 1.1668 to sixty for Steve, 4.9157/136.87 at the eighth but getting closer and closer to the guardrail - however Steve stayed with it and pulled the bike away from the concrete. Mike shut off after sixty feet but he just made it to the finish line and got a time on the board. 0.0942 to sixty feet for Rikard, 4.5482/129.69 to the eighth but then the bike crossed lanes in front of Bob who was luckily a little way behind. 1.1736 to sixty feet for Tim but from here it sounded as if the bike would not change gear and Tim shut off. 1.2110 to sixty feet for Christian but he was off the throttle before 330 feet.

  1. Steve French 7.7080/177.84

Eric Teboul 11.8657/63.44 DQ bye; Kai Selkämäa 7.1167/175.79, Steve Woollatt 7.0324/143.57; Steve Carey shut off, Rene van den Berg 10.3591/91.60 bye

1.0572 to sixty feet for Eric, then the bike headed for the guardrail, Eric shut off but sideswiped the rail which disqualified his time. Eric is OK, and the crew gave the track a quick sweep. Similar sixty foot times for Kai and Steve W, 1.0875 and 1.0831 respectively, Steve W rode through shake and his incrementals were much better than Kai's all the way, 4.2045 to the eighth to Kai's 4.5734. Steve shut off a touch early as the bike drifted left, Kai stayed with it as his motor started to smoke. Oil was found in Kai's lane.

On the re-start, just the briefest of burnouts from Rene. Steve C shut off for a fluid leak on the way back from the burnout. Rene took the bye, 1.0621 to sixty feet but with the tyre shaking and the bike heading for the centreline Rene shut it off.

Final qualifying:

  1. Steve Woollatt 7.0324/143.57

1.2675 to sixty feet for Cannon but cylinder going out towards the eighth 5.0545/127.26 by which time he was off the throttle. Up a place but spectating tomorrow. Martijn on a good one to start, 1.2536 to sixty feet but the bike just seemed to run out of puff the the second half and he shut off. Roman's bike looked to be straining all the way but he stayed with it - not enough to be racing tomorrow though. Samu shut off after the burnout, Trond took the bye, 1.2037 to sixty and 4.9810/137.28 at the eighth but only a slight improvement and he is in the stands tomorrow unless he can come in as first alternate. Svein Olav looked to be on a stormer, 1.2246 to sixty feet, front wheel in the air and straight as you like but there was a bang from the motor just before the eighth 5.1587/113.19 and that was teh end of his run. Svein Olav on the bump and biting his nails for a couple of runs. Big improvement for Turbo and worth one place on the list but not enough to get him in tomorrow. A shock as defending European Champion Per doesn't qualify, the rear slick boiling and from here looked as if a belt broke into the bargain. No improvement for Ismo but he is in the ladder for tomorrow. Nice sixty foot times for Jan Sturla and Hans Olav, 1.1851 and 1.1997 respectively, Hans Olav's slick was blackstriping all the way and he shut off at the eighth, Jan Sturla was off it at about 1000 feet. 1.1634 to sixty feet for Job and 1.1653 for Vidar, both bikes heading left although Job stayed with it longer, 4.5357/153.3 at the eighth and shut it off about 1000 feet out. 1.1580 to sixty feet for Lo and 1.1404 for Roel, Lo's bike went way out of shape and tried to throw him off and even Lo had to shut it off. 4.4032/165.18 at the eighth for Roel and shut off in the last few feet as the bike was heading for the centre line.

Fuel Funny Car session 1 (left lane first):

John Spuffard 7.9615/110.42, Gordon Smith 5.7680/198.83; Gary Page 14.0619/70.85 bye

0.9098 to sixty feet for Spuff, 0.9421 for Gordon, passing the Tree one of the chutes deployed from the Shwotime FC, Spuff obviously unaware for a moment as he stayed on it until the tyres started to smoke and he shut off. nice run for Gordon, 3.6548/204.83 at the eighth and then I thought I heard the blower relief panel pop but either way Gordon was off the throttle at about 900 feet. Our first look at the new Mongoose FC, great burnout by Gary and good to see Fuel tuner Alan Jackson back where he belongs. Dropped cylinders and sounded to be misfiring at the hit, 1.1039 to sixty feet and off the throttle.

Fuel Altered demonstration session 1:

Tony Betts 7.7743/118.70 bye, Paul Wratten shut off (fluid leak)

Martin Hill followed the Fuel Altereds with a 5.9444/268.16 in the Fireforce 3 Jet FC. Next up was Eric Teboul on his Rocket Bike with a fantastic 5.3313/247.66 on his Rocket Bike. 3.5195/225.53 at half track!

Next is Pro qualifying cycle 2.

FIA Pro Modified qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Melanie Troxel 6.5723/223.63, Marcus Hilt 7.7326/185.00; Johan Lindberg 6.0840/233.97, Ray White 8.0641/128.45; Wayne Nicholson did not start, Adam Flamholc 6.4637/166.07 bye; Robert Joosten no time, Marko Lantto 6.8581/213.76; Roger Moore 7.0680/no speed, Freddy Fagerström 6.2529/224.50; Kev Slyfield 7.5480/153.10, Bert Englefield 7.8689/127.32; Henri Joosten shut off, Terje Håkonsen 6.8881/199.76 bye; Rolf Ammann shut off, Jan Gunnarsson shut off; Marco Mauriscat 6.4764/215.13, Norbert Kuno no time; Graham Ellis 6.2886/227.00, Roger Johansson 7.0813/195.34; Urban Johansson 6.6263/221.43 , Micke Lindahl 6.7296/216.86 Bruno Bader 6.4122/178.52, Andy Robinson 6.3567/181.37; Micke Gullqvist no time, Mats Eriksson 8.0706/148.16; Jan Gunnarsson 8.1590/156.87 bye;

There was a small amount of consternation amogst the racers here over the last couple of days about a rule requiring Pro Mods to use Fuel-spec rear wheels. Some racers have changed wheels per the new requirement and some have not yet, and we would have had a field of ten cars running here had we gone strictly by the rules. But after consultation between race officials and racers a gentlemens' agreement has been reached, and signed by all racers, that no protests will be made based upon a racer not having the Fuel spec wheels. So everyone's in, at least until the end of qualifying.

Nice checkout for Melanie, 0.9842 to sixty feet, the car had a bit of a bounce at the eighth 4.3179/167.14 but a great baseline. Marcus drive through shake, 1.1181 to sixty feet and 4.9248/125.91 at the eighth, a couple of pedals on the way. Superb run for Johan, 1.0062 to sixty feet, no real shake, 3.9918/185.65 to the eighth and into number one spot with a PB, well done Johan! 1.2132 to sixty feet for Ray and 4.8335/133.76 at the eighth, shutting off about that point. Wayne's car didn't start and he towed back to the pits. 0.9820 to sixty feet for Adam, the Camaro moving about a bit, 4.0935/175.59 at the eighth and off the throttle and the chutes out before the traps. Robert left before the Tree ran and his tyres spun at the hit. Good baseline for Marko, 1.1702 to sixty feet and 4.5753/169.88 at the eighth. Good to see Freddy back, naturally he announced his arrival with a huge burnout. 1.0213 to sixty feet for Freddy to Roger's 1.0865, Freddy got to the eighth in 4.0789/179.61 to Roger's 4.6042/155.80, Roger's Viper was moving around its lane some but Freddy's truck was trying to write his name on the track in the second half. Freddy of course stayed with it all the way to the stripe. Not a great run for Bert, 1.0720 to sixty feet then the Coupe moved hard left and took out the 330 foot reflector. Bert got a hold of it again but then took out the eighth-mile reflector. Kev pulled his own car out of the way but stayed with it, as the quarter reflectors stayed intact we're just awaiting confirmation that Kev's time and speed are OK.

Reflectors replaced, Henri and Terje faced off. Henri shut off before staging and was pushed back. Terje took the bye, 0.9964 to sixty feet, then a pedal at about 330 feet, 4.3494/147.51 to the eighth and feathering the throttle. Drama in the next pair as Rolf Ammann's Coupe got out of shape in the burnout and smashed the Christmas Tree to smithereens. The rush was then on to stop Jan Gunnarsson backing up into the broken glass and wreckage of the Tree but luckily his crew got there in time.

Quite some repair job as not only did Rolf's Coupe destroy the Tree but it also damaged the stand and ripped apart the multi-core control cable. The timing crew did a great job of replacement and we were ready to go again. Norbert rolled the beams so no time for him. looked like a good run although the Avenger was moving all over the lane in the second half. 1.0290 to sixty feet for Eurodragster.com sponsor Marco, 4.1911/170.47 at the eighth and into fourth at that point. Great run for Eurodragster.com sponsor Graham, 0.0986 RT, 1.0351 to suxty feet and 4.1125/177.61 at the eighth, pretty straight run. 1.0105 to sixty feet for Roger but then horrible shake and he pedalled at about 300 feet. Shake for both Urban and Micke L, 1.1658 to sixty for Urban and 1.1333 for Micke betrays the fact. Great 0.0167 RT for Micke though. 1.0156 to sixty feet for Andy and 1.0280 for Bruno, both drove through pretty bad shake, smoke from Andy's Stude at the eighth 4.0118/181.20 and then the car disappeared into a huge cloud of smoke, which when it cleared revealed a long and wide trail of oil down the track. 4.0370/181.99 at half track for Bruno and then shut off early.

Micke and Mats first to run after the clean-up. Micke lost drive off the line and stopped by the Tree. 0.0218 RT for Mats, 1.0278 to sixty feet but then hit shake and the Crown Victoria drifted left then turned hard right and Mats shut off. Jan took his interrupted run, nice burnout then 1.0057 to sixty feet, hit shake about 150 feet out and the Badillac went for the centre line and Jan pedalled, then shut off.

  19. Mats Eriksson 8.0706/148.16
  20. Jan Gunnarsson 8.1590/156.87

Jean Dulamon is running leaded fuel and so can't compete but he put in a test pass. He came very close to taking out the Tree in his burnout and got a big round of applause for avoiding it, not least from the timing crew. 0.006 RT and 6.971/209.15 at the stripe.

Trackside conditions are 16.5 C, 39% humidity and 29.50 inches of air. Track temperature is 31.2 C.

FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Esko Raisvuo 6.0356/260.52 bye; Paul Ingar Udtian 5.6889/249.47, Dennis Habermann 5.5960/251.93; Fred Hanssen 5.3976/264.07, Derek Flynn 5.4203/260.55; Peter Schöfer 5.5303/244.19, Krister Johansson 5.6540/250.41; Dave Wilson 5.6483/248.23, Timo Habermann 5.4393/247.66

Great to see Esko back in the car after what seemed a participation-threatening problem earlier in the week. lazy launch, 1.0807 to sixty feet, cylinders out off the line but that cleared and then the car visibly picked up, 4.1376/198.53 to the eighth. Dennis got a big jump off the line 0.0267 to 0.1362, 0.9265 to sixty feet for Paul Ingar to Dennis' relatively gentle 1.0248. Dennis had the better eighth 3.6877/208.54 to 3.7156/195.38 and was there first by 0.2024 but his dragster made a move at the top end and crossed lanes - from here it looked as if the two cars got pretty close but Dennis pulled it back. Great side-by-side for Fred and Derek. Fred away first 0.0746 to 0.2028, the better sixty foot time 0.9270 to 0.9673, 3.5567/214.84 at the eighth for Fred to Derek's 3.5836 at a huge 217.54 for Derek and #1 and #2 qualifiers. PB for Eurodragster.com sponsor Derek, well done Derek!

As Peter and Krister came around the corner we had a site-wide power cut. Power restored, Peter and Krister returned. Peter away first 0.0742 to 0.1255 but Krister had the better sixty foot time 0.9986 to.1.0031, Peter drove through shake whilst Krister had a cylinder out on the right which was visibly pushing the car off line. 3.6396/209.92 to the eighth for Peter and 3.7491/206.61 to the eighth for Krister and Peter there first by 0.1750. Dave's car very hesitant to light the tyres on the burnout. Timo away first 0.0928 to 0.3343 and the much better sixty foot time 0.8965 to 1.0097. 3.7968/213.82 at the eighth for Grumpy to Timo's 3.5467/208.50 and Timo there first by 0.4505.

FIA Top Methanol Funny Car qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Rob Turner 9.5696/87.88 bye; Arvid Grødem 6.2542/226.48 bye; Jürgen Nagel 7.7752/150.05 DQ, Steph Milam 7.5061/198.84; Danny Bellio 7.2581/130.91, Dan Larsen 6.1180/192.87

First ever pass for Rob in the new Turner Motorsport TMFC, Will Hanna amongst the observers on the start line. 1.1542 to sixty feet, off the throttle at 300 feet or so and chutes out in the traps. We then had a brief clean-up in Rob's lane.

Same story for Arvid, first pass in the new car so we were expecting a checkout. Superb 250-foot burnout. One of those Maltese checkout passes then, 1.0131 to sixty feet, 4.0756/176.98 at the eighth and on it most of the way. Most importantly for Arvid no shake! Jürgen's FC rolled the beams and he was on and off the throttle all the way down and then his run was disqualified for a blue line violation. Steph pedalled after the launch and then the car picked up strongly in the second half. 0.9967 to sixty feet for Danny and 0.9820 for Dan, much better eighth for Dan 3.8886/190.10 to Danny's 4.0650/156.15 and Danny was just off the throttle at that point. Dan's blower panel popped at about 1000 feet and the body relief plate flew high into the air.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Dan Larsen 6.1180/192.87
  2. Arvid Grødem 6.2542/226.48
  3. Danny Bellio 7.2581/130.91

Trackside conditions are 17.6 C, 43% humidity and 29.50 inches of air, track temperature 29.5 C.

FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Urs Erbacher 11.9333/77.20, Jari Halinen 5.2061/269.84; Janne Ahonen did not start, Anita Mäkelä 5.7876/171.09 bye; Micke Kågered 9.4621/90.52, Stig Neergaard 9.1866/88.55; Risto Poutiainen 9.6624/73.44, Andy Carter 8.7529/86.20

Urs' burnout made the weather station fall down - we're over the right lane and he was in the left lane! Urs got to sixty feet in 0.9254 then his tyres went up in smoke and he was off it about 200 feet out. 0.9348 to sixty for Jari, driving through a little shake, 3.4954/230.86 at the eighth with cylinders out pushing the car to the right and he was off the throttle at about 1000 feet. Janne and Anita were started up and then told to shut off, extended track check going on in Jari's lane.

A quick sled and wipe in the right lane and off we went again. Huge bang and fire from Janne's motor on the restart, Jari broke some kind of record getting out of the car and Barry of the start line fire crew broke some kind of record getting to the car from the start line. Gentle run for Anita, 1.0053 to sixty feet, driving through a little shake, 3.5366/238.43 at half track with cylinders out and shut off at about half track.

Long burnout for Micke, Stig ready and waiting for a fair while before Micke got back. Then some consternation getting Micke's dragster out of reverse but they got there. Stig got a big jump off the line 0.1690 to 0.3393, 0.8704 to sixty feet for Stig and then cylinders out and tyre shake and he shut off. In the other lane Micke clocked 0.8792 to sixty feet and then his tyres shook and he shut off more or less simultaneously with Stig. Risto's first run in his ex-Bernstein car so we were expecting a checkout. The "King of Europe" on Andy's rear wing has been replaced by "Else Marie", make a note of that would you please Simon. Bit of a staging duel before this one, Andy went in first. Risto away first 0.1221 to 0.1423, 0.8942 to sixty feet to Andy's 0.8577, both cars hit shake just after the Tree and again both shut off simultaneously.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Jari Halinen 5.2061/269.84
  2. Anita Mäkelä 5.7876/171.09
  3. Andy Carter 8.7529/86.20

FIA Pro Stock qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Harald Sturhan no time bye; Jonas Dantanus 6.9508/198.14 bye, Tommy Leindahl shut off; Micke Callin 6.8863/201.59, Jan Palmqvist 6.9264/199.65; Michael Malmgren 6.7779/200.77, Richard Sundblom no time DQ

Harald looking for his first six this weekend. Not this time as the car didn't go up on the revs and the motor cut out off the line. Tommy's chutes popped out in the bleach box so the carpet slipper Cobalt was pushed back. 1.0115 to sixty feet for Jonas, 4.4542/156.21 at the stripe and getting very close to the guardrail at the top end. Nice RT for Micke 0.0647 to 0.1757, 4.4295 at half track to Jan's 4.4560, Jan's GTO was moving left and right in the second half and there was smoke from the motor. Richard's crew touched the car on the blue line so his run would have been disqualified, the car moved forward about a foot then stopped. 0.0657 RT for Michael, 1.0275 to sixty feet, 4.3628/161.17 at half track and shut off and chutes out a touch early, sandbagging in session one.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Michael Malmgren 6.7779/200.77
  2. Micke Callin 6.8863/201.59
  3. Jan Palmqvist 6.9264/199.65

UEM Funny Bike Cup qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Steve French 15.0607/46.31 bye; Mike Olie shut off, Bob Brooks 9.1094/94.07 bye; Tim Blakemore 8.4354/121.41 bye, Kev Charman shut off; Rikard Gustafsson 11.1423/70.46, Christian Jäger 7.7828/168.91

Bucking Bronco ride for Steve with added flames from the exhausts, sounded like a bit of a misfire and Steve shut off. Mike shut off after the burnout so Bob took the bye, 1.1340 to sixty feet, up to the top of second gear and shut off, planned checkout pass I'd say. Kev shut off approaching stage, fluid leak I think, Tim took the bye. 0.020 RT, shut off at half track. Rikard looked to be on a good pass, 1.1160 to sixty feet, but shut off at half track, great pass from Christian to take #1 spot.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Christian Jäger 7.7828/168.91
  2. Tim Blakemore 8.4354/121.41
  3. Bob Brooks 9.1094/94.07
  4. Rikard Gustafsson 11.1423/70.46
  5. Steve French 15.0607/46.31

UEM Top Fuel Bike qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Steve Carey 11.2666/67.86 bye; Steve Woollatt 8.4270/99.93, Eric Teboul shut off; Rene van den Berg 7.6412/179.76, Kai Selkämäa 11.8331/51.93;

Test run for Steve C bedding in a new blower and fuel pump. 1.1906 to sixty feet, clutch sounded to be slipping. Eric was shut off in pre-stage so Steve W took the bye. 1.0855 to sixty feet and shut off before half track, we are guessing a planned checkout pass. 1.0708 to sixty feet for Rene, feathering the throttle towards half track and shut off a touch early. Kai was off the throttle at half track and stopped in the shutdown area.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Rene van den Berg 7.6412/179.76
  2. Steve Woollatt 8.4270/99.93
  3. Steve Carey 11.2666/67.86

UEM Supertwin qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Jan Sturla Hegre 7.4234/152.65 bye; Vidar Ravnsborg 7.2995/186.66, Ismo Mäenpää 7.4784/188.92; Ian Turburville 8.4514/155.22, Chris Hannam 10.8590/80.52; Martijn de Haas no time, Svein Olav Rolfstad 7.6869/174.38; Per Bengtsson 8.4233/142.07; Roman Sixta 9.8928/146.28; Samu Kemppainen 8.6295/161.89, Trond Hoiberget 7.8320/177.83; Roel Koedam 7.0314/68.44, Lorenz Stäuble 6.6569/215.84; Hans Olav Olstad 7.5428/174.39, Job Heezen 6.9125/209.06

Great first competitive pass for young gun Jan Sturla, 1.1815 to sixty feet and 4.6790/157.40 at the eighth, fishtailing at the top end and backing off a touch early. Good baselines for Vidar and Ismo, and Vidar into #1 spot at that point. I noticed Chris' crewman Al Smith walking a bit gingerly, wonder what that was about. Great looking run for Cannon to begin with, 1.2521 to sixty feet but then lots of unburned fuel from the exhausts and every appearance of a broken drive belt. Bright header flames from Turbo. Rear slick up in smoke at the hit for Martijn, a bang from the motor and he pulled over at half track. Good-looking pass for Svein-Olav but we know he has more in reserve. The usual thundering burnout from Per, although Vidar had already made the weather station fall down, but then he went back and took another burnout. Roman in stage a long while before Per even pre-staged, Chief Starter Ian Marshall gestured to Per to hurry it up a bit. Per got a big jump on Roman off the line but he shut off at about half track. Trond sounded to feather the throttle at half track but still put down a pretty solid pass. Tremendous run for Lorenz, the usual fishtailing bu he held onto it, getting very close to the centre line at the top end and judging by Roel's terminal speed Lo's bike triggered Roel's first speed beam. Hans Olav's first incrementals looked good but he looked to be fighting his bike at mid-track, his left leg flailing, but he held on to it. Great run for Job and a baseline for better things.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Lorenz Stäuble 6.6569/215.84
  2. Job Heezen 6.9125/209.06
  3. Roel Koedam 7.0314/68.44
  4. Vidar Ravnsborg 7.2995/186.66

  8. Svein Olav Rolfstad 7.6869/174.38
  9. Trond Hoiberget 7.8320/177.83
  10. Per Bengtsson 8.4233/142.07
  11. Ian Turburville 8.4514/155.22
  12. Samu Kemppainen 8.6295/161.89

Trackside conditions at the start of the session were 17.1 C, 51% humidity and 29.47 inches of air, track temperature 24.8 C.

UEM Pro Stock Bike qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Stavros Svrachnos 7.7116/173.08 bye; Martin Newbury 8.1359/160.76 bye; Dave Beck 7.3304/176.44 bye; Richard Gipp 8.0277/164.85, Kalle Lyrén 7.4815/169.84; Karl-Heinz Weikum 7.8342/167.29, Martin Bishop 7.8568/162.48; Gert-Jan Laseur 7.5363/170.46, Zoltan Toth no time; Len Paget 7.9294/147.11, Fredrik Fredlund 7.5761/174.37; Jesper Thiel 7.8736/177.83, Anders Abrahamsson 7.2489/179.93; Kenneth Vik 7.4232/172.40; Ulf Ögge 7.2620/180.62

Hesitation off the line from Stavros' bike but a good baseline ET. Sounded as if Martin's clutch was slipping off the line, 1.3601 sixty foot time but his first pass in a while so that will give him some good data. Nice first run for Dave, one gear shift didn't sound right to my inexpert ear but a good pass and into #1 at that point. Great to see Richard back where he belongs. Huge PB for Eurodragster.com Blogger Kalle, well done Kalle! Good first pass for Richard after a long lay-off. Nice baselines for both Karl-Heinz and Martin, Martin close to the centre line at the top end. Great pass for Gert, in the other lane Zoltan's motor cut out off the line. Len off the throttle early but still a seven, nice pass for Fredrik and into fourth at that point. 0.072 RT for Anders and a fantastic pass for #1 spot although I noticed that some of Dave Beck's earlier incrementals were quicker so there's a story to unfold. Ulf got a big jump on Kenneth after Kenneth took a while staging, Ulf into #2 and a great pass for Kenneth, maybe a PB.

Super Pro ET qualifying after session 7

Roy Wilding up from #16 to #6 in the fourth pair of the session. Nice 0.001 RT from Bob Doyle and up to #2 spot. Next pair and a dramatic burnout for Andy Raw as the Beetle sideways and up on two wheels, ending up in the other lane. Andy kept hold of it, though, and drove up the track to give Dave Townsend in the other lane a clear run at a qualifier. Bernard Saz' Citroen Traction shed body parts at half track on his pass, Bernard quite OK.

Trackside conditions at the start of qualifying were 15.2 C, 66% humidity and 29.47 inches of air, track temperature 19.6 C. There is quite a stiff crosswind which will hopefully abate quickly.

Pro ET qualifying after session 7

Lots of breakouts in this session. Big move for Mark Bailey, #26 to #6, in mid-session. John Morris got himself safely into the ladder, #32 to #24 towards the end of the session. Big PB for Amanda Cox, 9.991 albeit on a 10.05 dial-in, a very happy crew could be heard shrieking on the start line above the noise of the next pair. Well done Amanda!

Pro ET qualifying is now finished. How about that bump spot, +0.095 or less to race later.

Good morning and welcome from Santa Pod for our coverage of the FIA Main Event brought to you in association with American Car Imports.

The Webster Race Engineering/Nimbus Motorsport webcam is on-line and will be posting a picture every sixty seconds until the track closes on Monday.

The rain has moved away, which makes one feel sorry for those miserable sods who seem to relish whingeing about the prospect of it raining but let's face it you had your fun yesterday and the rest of us want to go racing. The sun is in and out, right now trackside conditions are 13.3 C, 75% humidity and 29.44 inches of air.

No Simon today as it is his wife Ros' birthday. Have a very Happy Birthday Ros and please send Simon back to us in one piece tomorrow as we are missing him. Because we are a man down and we're on for a long and busy day we are not guaranteeing to post any pit notes today but we'll see how things turn out.

The plan for today is for Sportsman qualifying to start at 9:00, Pro sessions at 10:30 and 14:30, more Sportsman qualifying and eliminations in between, and then subject to weather and track conditions and everything running smoothly a third Pro session which should not start before 17:00.

Stay tuned and when the action starts we'll bring you all the news.
