Mico Ahonen (Junior Dragster) and Harry Gibson (Junior FC) had a match-up after JD qualifying. Harry got there first 8.3054/79.38 to Mico's 15.5658/45.52.

Fuel Funny Car match race 2

Gordon Smith 5.2550/272.02 def. John Spuffard 5.3121/234.92

Gordon away first 0.1961 to 0.2009, Spuff had the better incrementals, 0.9226 to sixty to Gordon's 0.9440, 3.5102/230.85 at the eighth to Gordon's 3.5516/231.46. Then a couple of puffs of smoke from the Showtime FC followed by a fireball through the lights, the car well on fire until Spuff hit the fire bottles. The fire crews chased Spuff down the shutdown area, but it looked like the fire was put out by the bottles and Spuff turned the car off the track himself. Spuff is A-OK, no word on the state of the car.

UEM Funny Bike Cup qualifying session 3 (left lane first):

Al Young 12.4075/110.69 bye; Tim Blakemore 10.8792/71.14 bye; Robert Karlsson 9.0650/128.31, Otto Knebl 8.5473/159.08; Steve French 7.6274/139.43 bye; Rikard Gustafsson 6.5777/194.69, Bob Brooks 20.0218/34.60

Al's bike headed for the centre line and he shut off and idled through. Tim had problems changing gear and shut off but he has a time on the board now. Robert got very close to the left guardrail after going too far right last run but he has a time on the board. No improvement for Otto, again the bike stuttered off the line. Steve was on a good run but was then on and off the throttle in the second half; in the other lane Kev Charman didn't make it to the burnout. First half of a new Funny Bike Cup ET record for Rikard and he took a long way round and looked to shut off early so more to come there. In the other lane Bob was off the throttle after sixty feet.

Final qualifying:

  1. Rikard Gustafsson 6.5777/194.69
  2. Steve French 7.2313/176.44
  3. Bob Brooks 7.4835/179.89

FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 3 (left lane first):

Anita Mäkelä 5.3308/177.13 bye; Micke Kågered no time bye; Andy Carter 4.5728/320.19, Urs Erbacher 4.8437/298.28

Anita's revs were very high after the burnout and she was sat out at about 150 feet a long time whilst it was being attended to. Still sounded high on the return....had she burned up too much fuel for the run? 0.8720 to sixty feet, drove through shake, 3.1689/254.66 at the eighth, blackstriping all the way to about 900 feet where the dragster moved to the left and Anita shut it off, but the run was good enough to get her into tomorrow's ladder. Micke's blower belt broke at the hit and the car stopped at about half track.

The final pair had the makings of a classic, and a classic pair it was, the quickest TF pair in European history. 0.8464 to sixty feet to Urs' 0.8570, 3.1059/267.09 at the eighth to Urs' 3.2405/250.03, some haze from Andy's car in the second half, 3.8867/309.19 at 1000 feet and looks like he was off it just a touch early, a new European ET record for Andy and the first half of a new European speed record, well done Andy, Per, Karsten and the Lucas Oil / Landmeco team!

Final qualifying:

  1. Andy Carter 4.5728/320.19
  2. Risto Poutiainen 4.7680/309.51
  3. Urs Erbacher 4.8437/298.28

0.9938 to sixty feet for Krister, a cylinder out by half track 3.8307/197.01 and then more cylinders out and off it before the stripe. 0.8881 to sixty for Timo, driving through shake which made the top of his tyres flap around, 3.4854/211.53 at the eighth and into #1 spot. Great run for Paul Ingar, 0.9440 to sixty feet, no shake to speak of, 3.5735/209.93 at the eighth and into #3 spot. not such a great run for Eurodragster.com sponsor Derek, tyres up in smoke at the hit, shut off and idled through. Same story for Grumpy as for Derek, tyres up in smoke at the hit and shut off as the car headed left, thought I heard a bang too. 0.9137 to sixty for Dennis, 3.5423/208.94 at the eighth then the blower panel blew at about 1000 feet and it was one almighty bang - hopefully no damage done. Superb run for Fred, 0.9452 to sixty, 3.5307 at a big 215.48 at the eighth and back into #1 spot. 0.9378 to sixty for Peter, a slowing 3.6760/179.09 at the eighth after hitting shake.

Great run for Arvid, 0.9749 to sixty, driving through a little shake, pretty straight run too, 3.7842/195.02 at the eighth. Steph's FC looked to roll the beams very slightly before Steph hit it, 1.1750 to sixty feet and 4.1255/186.58 at the eighth where one chute dropped out and opened. Arvid up into #2 spot...but only for a moment, tremendous pass for Jürgen. 1.0034 to sixty, 3.8315/196.24 to the eighth and into #2. 0.9845 to sixty for Dan, driving through very visible shake, 3.9021/194.19 at the eighth then a big bang and the blower relief body panel sailed high into the air.

All eyes on Svein Olav in the next run as his bike's motor faltered and then there was a bang and a big flash of flame. The safety crews chased Svein Olav down and he is quite OK. 1.1504 to sixty for Samu, 4.5036/156.34 to the eighth and safely into the ladder tomorrow - however he bumped title contender Job Heezen out of the top eight so that could have been a crucial qualifying run. Jon was next up and knew what he had to do, could he deliver? And the answer is yes, looked like soft settings as a banker run, 1.2103 to sixty and 4,6783/160.73 at the eighth but job done. 1.1364 to sixty for Hans Olav, 4.4081/194.18 at the eighth. 1.1444 to sixty for Martijn, 4.6871/142.90 at the eighth, not enough to get him into tomorrow's ladder but first alternate. huge burnout from Per but then his motor banged about sixty feet out and he idled through. How Laszlo stayed on that bike I'll never know, the bike tried to throw him off and one of his legs was wavig in the air as he missed just about every timing reflector by a fag paper and stayed under power. 1.1968 to sixty for Karl-Heinz, 4.8983/166.69 at the eighth, an improvement in ET but no improvement in place. Harri's motor cut out at the hit. 1.1870 to sixty for Gabbi and 4.9571/139.07 at the eighth, it turns out that the smoke on the last run was Gabbi's front tyre going flat right on the finish line. Rob pedalled and then shut off at about 900 feet. 0.9938 to sixty for Dez and then bad shake and the car turned hard right, Dez had his hands full but held on to it and put the chutes out to stabilise the car. 0.9690 to sixty for Danny, driving through a little shake, 3.8021/195.96 at the eighth and into #1 spot at that point. Dan was shut off although the reason was not immediately obvious but which we were later told was broken glass on the track, maybe a broken gauge from Dezsoe's FC. Jürgen took the bye. The back end of Jürgen's FC sat up at the hit and lost him some time, 1.1484 to sixty feet, 4.0796/189.71 at the eighth, the run good for a couple of places on the ladder. Arvid shut off and was pushed back from his burnout. Steph took the bye, 1.1833 to sixty feet, 4.1655/185.70 at the eighth, full pass and looking good although from the engine note it sounded as if the car was bouncing in the shutdown area. Dan back for a bye, 1.0211 to sixty feet, 3.9075/194.66 to the eighth and into second spot.

1.0953 to sixty feet for Steve, shut off in second gear. An improvement but off his usual excellent pace. Simultaneous drive failures for Eric and Rene. Eric stopped at 330 feet and Rene idled through. Drama in the next pair as a puff of smoke from Kai's bike was followed by a huge ball of flame, the bike still on fire as it stopped. Kai got off the bike pretty sharpish and is OK. 1.0824 to sixty feet for Sverre, 4.1651/182.44 at the eighth and into #1 spot. Jan Sturla had a real fishtail on, the bike weaving left and right all the way to about 700 feet where the blower plate blew. 4.5198/158.47 at the eighth and took a long way round through the speed trap there too. The weirdest thing next pair as both Svein Olav and Ismo got within a hair's breadth of the guardrail, Svein Olav in the left lane and Ismo in the eight. Both riders OK but Ismo's run possibly to be DQ'd - from here it was very difficult to tell whether he actually touched the wall. very gentle launch for Cannon and he shut off at about 100 feet. 1.2000 to sixty for Job, good-looking pass until just the eighth 4.7287/142.51 when there was a bang and a puff of smoke and the front of the bike thumped down to Earth. Nice run for Per, 1.1706 to sixty and 4.3426/177.70 to the eighth, shut off just before the stripe. 1.2225 to sixty for Martijn and 4.7509/155.77 at the eighth, also looked to be off it before the stripe. Roel's run looked a lot quicker than the time which came up on the board; 1/1956 to sixty and 4.7548/153.11 at the eighth, straight and clean run but some smoke in the shutdown area. 1.6656 to sixty for Roman and a slowing 5.7411/132.95 at the eighth. Nice run for Lo to begin with, 1.1514 to sixty but then drifting further and further left, 4.3893/176.29 at the eighth then a puff of smoke and off the throttle at about 1000 feet. Trond was fighting the bike most of the way down, 1.1897 to sixty and 4.6478/144.32 at the eighth then shut off.

Len and Laszlo were shut off as Gabbi's bike was stuck on the shutdown area. 0.0580 RT for Karl-Heinz, 1.1960 to sixty feet, sounded like a slight problem selecting gear at mid-track, 5.0146 at the eighth. Harri hit shake and then drew to a halt at about 400 feet. 1.1623 to sixty for Martin to Fredrik's 1.2218, Fredrik was off the throttle by thte eighth 4.8142 to 4.7714. FIA Pro Stock qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Conrad Stanley 7.2315/189.66 bye; Jonas Dantanus 6.9741/196.28 bye; Tommy Laindahl 6.8938.198.92, Sampsa Palos 6.8321/201.53; Jan Palmqvist 6.8570/198.12, Micke Callin 6.8440/200.61; Michael Malmgren 6.7606/202.58, Jimmy Ålund 6.8671/181.38

Great run for Conrad, 1.0749 to sixty feet, again lots of clutch dust. 4.6241/150.62 to the eighth and that run certainly within the licencing requirements. Well done Conrad! Nice run for Jonas although a very long way round, close to the centre lein. 0.9860 to sixty feet and 4.4710/156.71 at the eighth. Great side-by-side btween Tommy and Sampsa. 0.0654 RT for Sampsa to 0.1052, Tommy had the better sixty foot time 1.0178 to 1.0232, then Sampsa had the better eighth 4.3903/161.07 to 4.4182/158.90. Micke C away first 0.0407 to 0.0624, the much better sixty foot time 4.3953/159.87 to 4.4211 at a fast 161.17. An improvement for Micke but he stayed in place. Long staging duel between Michael and Jimmy, Jimmy in first and away first 0.0723 to 0.1446, 0.9966 to sixty for Jimmy to Michael's 1.0020, Michael had the better eighth mile 4.3416 to 4.3697, then Jimmy shut it off and had the chutes out a touch early.

The sun came out just as Mats moved forward to stage, it's an omen I tell you. -0.0446 RT and bad shake for Mats, 1.0374 to sixty feet then the Green Goblin turned hard right and Mats had to back off. Pulled the car straight and got back on it but still not in the top sixteen. First runs for Melanie and Eurodragster.com sponsor Andy. 1.1057 to sixty for Andy then his blower panel blew. 0.9704 to sixty for Mel, a pedal for shake, 4.2322/177.68 at the eighth, the car bouncing some in the second half. 0.0425 for Bert, 1.2096 to sixty feet with a little shake, 4.5201/165.31 showing time lost to shake. Looked like Jöran's run was DQ'd for a Blue Line violation. Jöran got to sixty feet in 1.1159 then he hit shake and there was a bang which on a blower car would have been the burst panel but this is a turbo car. Shake and pedalfest between Roger and Johan. 1.0454 to sixty for Roger, 0.9914 for Johan, both his shake by the Tree, both pedalled at more or less the same time. 4.1219/179.01 at the eighth for Roger and 4.2045/176.09 for Johan, Championship contender Johan into the ladder now. 1.1272 to sixty for Kev, a brief pedal for shake and some haze in the second half. Ray took two goes at a burnout after the tyres didn't light first time - a short burnout so as not to keep Wayne waiting. Ray was then shut off on the line. Wayne took the bye, 1.0852 to sixty feet then a puff of smoke from the left bank at the eighth, then a huge cloud of smoke from the motor at about 1000 feet. The track was checked and found to be OK, hopefully nothing untoward for Wayne. 1.2386 to sixty for Robert, bad shake and he shut it off. 1.1615 to sixty for Roger, 4.7278/146.63 at the eighth and already off the throttle by then. 1.0652 to sixty for Henri and then shake, Henri shut it off. 0.9824 to sixty for Freddy, a pedal for shake and then back on it, 4.0562/180.99 at the eighth, chutes out at about 1100 feet and into the ladder. 1.0166 to sixty for Urban and off the throttle by the eighth. 0.9979 to sixty for Eurodragster.com sponsor Graham, a pedal for shake, 4.1900/170.74 at the eighth. Then drama as Graham had no chutes, smoke from the brakes and the Cuda got into a bounce, great driving job and an amazing handbrake turn at the very end of the shutdown area, car upright and Graham OK. 1.1331 to sixty feet for Norbert then bad shake and he shut off. Big nitrous burp for Jean and he stopped by the Tree as the start line crew ran to his aid. A trail of fluid too from Jean's motor. Looked like a gentle launch for Bruno, 1.0268 to sixty feet, 4.1257/179.89 at the eighth, straight run but no improvement on yesterday's pass. Another superb run for Adam, 0.9662 to sixty feet and our first three-second eighth-mile time 3.9872/181.25, an improvement but Adam stayed in place. Out of shape burnout for Rolf as you'd expect. 1.0447 to sixty, driving through shake, 4.4154/161.84 at the eighth with the Coupe moving all over its lane, shut off and chutes out before the stripe. 1.1266 sixty foot and then horrible shake for Eurodragster.com sponsor Marco, he shut off and probably played no further part in proceedings. Same story for Micke L, 1.0707 to sixty then the Camaro hit shake and turned hard right. 1.0054 to sixty feet for Micke G, 4.0516/184.96 at the eighth.

Topspeed Automotive Street Eliminator qualifying after session 5

Drama for Mats Andersson in the first pair as there was a flash of flame and cloud of smoke from the Opel at half track, a trail of fluid which must have got under the tyres as the car turned left and spun into the guardrail. The safety crews started moving as Mats' car turned left and were there as the car stopped. Mats is A-OK. In the other lane Richard Billings got into the ladder with his first competitive pass in his ex-Steve Kellett Mustang.

On the re-start a new PB for Stuart Williams, into the nines at 9.6939 on a stock motor, well done Stuart! Colin Lazenby up from #4 to #3 and Mark Todd up from #12 to #11 two pairs later. Next pair and Eurodragster.com sponsor Jon Webster moved from #7 to #5. Jeff Meads up from #10 to #6 in the last run of the session.

The internet service is still down - as we guessed it is down because the BT engineer is on-site fixing the problem we have had the last couple of days. In the meantime we have reverted to the static (one-minute) webcam. To pick up the one-minute webcam you will need to click on your Browser's Refresh button on the webcam page. Obviously as soon as the internet service is back we will put the live webcam back on.

09:30

As those tuned in to the webcam will have worked out, we have lost the internet service again. Right now we are having to use a 3G stick to post reports. We'll give the service a few minutes to come back before we change the webcam back to static via the 3G stick but be warned we may have to do so.

08:00

Good morning and welcome from Santa Pod Raceway for our coverage of the FIA European Finals brought to you in association with American Car Imports.

The Webster Race Engineering/Nimbus Motorsport webcam is on-line and will be streaming live video and trackside audio until the track closes.

As you know we had a lot of problems with the internet connection here at Santa Pod yesterday. Right now everything appears to be working OK so the webcam has reverted to the live stream as mentioned above. Obviously if the problems return then we may have to change it back to the static service but let's not worry about that unless it happens.

It's overcast but dry here at Santa Pod; despite dark warnings to the contrary it didn't rain overnight. We do however have quite a stiff headwind. Conditions outside are 16.6 C, 94% humidity and air pressure is 29.50 inches.

We have a number of Thank Yous this morning. Firstly thank you to Team Nutritionist Syd McDonald for breakfast, lunch and dinner each day. Much appreciated Syd. Thanks also to Anita Mäkelä, Dezsoe Krivan and Paul Vrind for chocolates, confectionery and T-Shirts, and from Ed to Andy Willsheer for the use of a camera battery charger. The usual thanks also to Darren Prentice for the use of his caravan at a very reasonable fee.

We are due to start at 09:00 with Sportsman qualifying. Stay tuned and when the first motors fire up we'll be back with the news.
