A great driving job by Martin Curbishley in the Super Modified final as his 'Vette got up on its two left wheels. Martin got the car back on terra firma but crossed lanes and took out the eighth-mile reflectors.

0.9844 to sixty feet for Paul, driving through shake, 4.2988/163.33 at half track. 1.1911 to sixty feet for Jon, the motor sounding as if it was running down in the second half, a pop from Jon's motor and then a fire in the shutdown area. Paul Wratten wins NFAA this weekend.

Esko shut off for a fluid leak on the way back from his burnout. 0.0825 RT for Dennis, 0.9157 to sixty feet and then the motor made a groaning noise and Dennis shut off.

MSA Pro Modified final

Andy Robinson 7.4972/148.57 def.Graham Ellis 6.6061/219.09 DQ

-0.1473 redlight for Eurodragster.com sponsor Graham and that was that. 0.0602 RT for fellow Eurodragster.com sponsor Gus, hit shake and almost crossed the centre line, 4.5484/143.81 at half track. Astounding 0.9785 sixty foot for Graham but wasted.

Top Fuel Bike final

Rene van den Berg 7.7912/198.01 def. Roel Koedam 7.6668/170.43

Rene got a big jump 0.2148 to 0.5226, all eyes on Roel as he again had fire round the back of the motor, the fire got worse and worse but the motor was running quite happily and blackstriping the track, a couple of pieces of body panel blew off the Godfather bike at half track but Roel stayed with it all the way. 1.5359 to sixty for Rene and 5.3194/165.65 at half track, first to the stripe by 0.1834

Janne Ahonen no time def. Gordon Smith no time DQ

0.0882 RT for Gordon, 0.1091 for Janne. 0.8980 to sixty feet for Janne and 1.1358 for Gordon, Janne drove through shake and blackstriped his entire lane, 3.5123/234.46 at half track to Gordon's 3.8132/226.80. The Shockwave FC was headed to the right in the second half and then made a hard right move right at the end of the track taking out the second 1000 foot and both the finish line reflectors. Janne obviously saw Gordon coming and yanked the dragster to the right which was a pretty stout driving job at that speed. Neither of the ETs or speeds displayed could be considered valid but Janne took the win as Gordon was DQ'd.

Jet FC pilot Roger Goring just popped up to Race Control, looking remarkably chipper considering what he just went through. Roger confirmed that the wind caught the car and then the parachute. Luckily, as we thought we saw, Roger still had steering and was able to keep the car from any more wall-related mischief after the initial impact. The FC's chassis is quite badly damaged and the Firebird body totalled. You know what to do folks, start buying that Firestorm merchandise to get the team back on track.

0.9307 to sixty feet for Jari, Risto's blower blew back at the hit and the safety device released the chutes. 3.4297/230.17 at half track, Jari's dragster was moving all over its lane and got close to the guardrail in the second half.

Drama for Roger Goring when his Firestorm Jet FC sideswiped the guardrail in the shutdown area after a 6.4420/239.85 pass. The car made a move at about 1000 feet, Roger was off the throttle and had the chute out then the car glanced off the right hand rail. The Firebird body flew into the air but from here Roger had the car sans body visibly under control. The safety crews were on the roll within moments, Roger got himself out of the car and is OK, off to the Medical Centre for a precautionary check.

Half-track checkout for Roel. 1.1101 to sixty feet and 4.3658/161.90 at half track, the bike fishtailing as long as it was under power.

Rene van den Berg 22.4806/27.41 bye, Steve Woollatt shut off

Steve's crew unhappy with something after the burnout, lots of heads shaking, and Steve shut off. Rene had a drive belt break at the hit, some of it landed on the track about thirty feet out and the rest of it about 400 feet out.

Timo away first 0.1200 to 0.1906, the better sixty foot time 0.9120 to 0.9585. Very slight shake for Timo, the usual TMD shake I'd say, 3.6599/213.90 at half track for Esko to 3.6476/200.18 for Timo, Esko was visibly reeling Timo in when Timo's blower relief panel popped. 0.2395 in it at the stripe.

Eurodragster.com sponsor Graham just away first 0.1000 to 0.1008, the better sixty foot 1.0213 to 1.3008, Kev hit shake and had a long pedal as the Coupe went out of shape. 4.1377/176.81 to half track for Graham after a brief pedal, the 'Bird moving about its lane some but he stayed with it.

Looked a bit languid on the launch, 1.0615, no obvious shake, sounded like long shifts on the gears, 4.2303/173.62 at half track and then shut off and chute out at about 1000 feet.

Next up were a pair of test passes by Henri Joosten and Jean Dulamon. Henri first trying to rid himself of the shakes but with no success, a few feet off the line and huge shake, 15.8957/69.49. Nice burnout for Jean, rolled the beams a little before hitting it. The Camaro moved about its lane a lot but Jean stayed with it, 7.4599/182.23.

Bob Glassup shut off, Joe Bond no time bye; Jon Best shut off

Bob's tyres hardly spun during the burnout despite high revs and he shut off. Joe took the bye, 1.0701 to sixty feet, shake and a hard right so Joe got off the throttle and stopped just before the finish line. There was a clean-up of aluminium and fluid in Joe's lane. Jon followed after the re-start, good burnout but then shut off before staging and clean-up of what looked like nitro-contaminated oil.

Julian Webb followed the NFAA with a 7.1714/230.10 in the Split Second Jet Dragster.

0.9212 to sixty feet for Jari and his tyres were shaking by then, he shut off at about 150 feet. 0.9393 to sixty feet and then the FC looked to be drifting, Spuff off the throttle at about 100 feet. 0.9691 to sixty feet for Gordon, a great run as the Shockwave FC stuck to the track, 3.6114/230.27 at the eighth and then drifted to the right and took out both 1000 foot and one of the finish line reflectors. Gordon briefly DQ'd for crossing the centre line but then reinstated. 0.8667 to sixty feet for Risto and 0.9194 for Janne, then both hit shake and shut off.

Good morning and welcome from Santa Pod Raceway for our coverage of the Auto Trader Easter Thunderball, brought to you in association with American Car Imports.

The Webster Race Engineering/Nimbus Motorsport webcam is on-line and is set to post a picture every sixty seconds until the track closes this evening.

We are pleased to report that it is dry here at Santa Pod. Trackside conditions are 8.3 C, 83% humidity and 29.74 inches of air, but a chilly headwind is making it feel colder.

Earlier on this morning we were pleased to meet Fuel Altered pilot Gary Page who looked just fine after his crash yesterday. Gary told us that it didn't feel as if the shake was too bad and that he was all set to grab the brake when the car turned left on him. Gary said that it was a pretty hard impact and that he had his bell well and truly rung. Gary added that car owner Lawrie Gatehouse has already ordered a new chassis and offered to replace his firesuit which had to be cut off, "But then he said that I was never driving his car again!".

The traditional Raceday Hello to our US Correspondents Ed O'Connell and Kathy Hileman who are tuned in from Rye, NH, whilst simultaneously tucking in to a basket of candy which Kathy won as a contest prize over the weekend, although we'd be willing to bet that the chocolate is that questionable American stuff rather than proper chocolate.
