Graham had a long pedal for shake then got back on it, the Bird visibly accelerating hard in the second half, Terje's Bird was moving about the lane but he stayed with it. Micke lost drive at the hit and played no further part, 1.0091 to sixty feet for Marc, 4.1829/169.48 at half track and feathering the throttle all the way. Not a bad second run for the new car!

Jürgen stayed with it and pulled it straight, 4.3804/171.60 at half track, Steph got to half track in 4.5735/149.51 but shut off soon after. 1.0280 to sixty feet for Ulf, 1.0609 for Dan, Ulf hit shake and pedalled a couple of times but then all attention to Dan as the Stratus hit shake and turned left, taking out the half track reflectors.

Clean-up done, a great run for Leif to take his #1 spot back, 0.9853 to sixty feet, a puff of smoke at half track 3.7983/195.32 and looked like a cylinder out in the second half.

Some work on the idle on Stig's motor before staging, 0.9803 to sixty feet, 3.5232/238.39 at half track and then shut off at about 700 feet, the dragster getting close to the right guardrail. Stig into #2 spot at that point. 0.0283 RT for Risto, 0.8834 to sixty feet then the tyres went up in smoke at about 403 feet and the car disappeared into the cloud, Risto got off the throttle as the car made a move to the left. 0.9187 to sixty feet for Anita, 0.8863 for Jon, Anita hit shake and her blower belt broke at 330 feet or so, Jon drove through shake and then his tyres went up in smoke at about 250 feet. Anita up to #3 at that point, no change for Jon. 0.8499 sixty foot time for Andy to Lex's 0.8585, both pretty stout. Andy hit shake about 200 feet out then his tyres went up in smoke, Lex hit shake but managed to get through it first time, 3.2249/242.02 at half track, but then his tyres started to haze and he shut off at about 700 feet.

FIA Pro Stock qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Jan Palmqvist 6.9220/199.00 bye, Harald Sturhan 7.2652/192.98, Micke Callin 7.1547/193.68, Tommy Leindahl 6.8678/201.59, Richard Sundblom 6.8227/202.29, Michael Malmgren 6.8147/202.57 bye, Jonas Dantanus did not start, Jimmy Ålund 6.9022/203.41, Magnus Hansson 6.8044/201.40

Jan's GTO looks just stunning. 1.0169 to sixty feet, 4.4363/158.43 to half track and into #5 spot at that point. An improvement for Harald, 1.0907 to sixty feet and 4.6941/150.99 at the eighth, bumped down a spot by Micke's 1.0260 to sixty feet, 4.6003/151.90 to the eighth and 0.0660 first at the stripe. A great match-up between Tommy and Richard, Tommy away foirst 0.0137 to 0.1451, better incrementals for Richard 1.0059 to sixty feet to Tommy's 1.0149, 4.3854/160.52 to Tommy's 4.4230/158.91, but Tommy first to the stripe by dint of his better RT. Michael took a bye, Jonas sat in front of the garage having been pushed back. 1.0271 to sixty feet and 4.3859/160.11 to the eighth and into second place at that point. 0.0095 RT for Jimmy, 1.0005 to sixty feet, driving through shake which robbed him of ET, 4.4615/160.55 at half track. Speed record backed up, well done Jimmy! 1.0072 to sixty feet for Magnus, 4.3738/161.03 to half track and into #2 spot.

FIM/UEM Top Fuel Bike qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Eric Teboul 7.3444/173.05 bye, Rene van den Berg 6.6954/201.64 bye, Michal Ponca no time, Ian Carruthers no time DQ, Bob Brooks 8.5356/155.69, Peter Svensson 6.2250/202.21, Christian Jager shut off, Otto Knebl 8.1950/160.77, Ian King shut off, Tim Blakemore no time (bye), Steve Woollatt 6.4990/211.06, Steve Carey 12.2739/66.43

Eric's motor had a cylinder out all the way down and sounded very rough, but good for #5 spot at that point. A nice pass for Rene, 1.0902 to sixty feet and 4.3342/170.41 then just in the last couple of hundred feet sounded as if it had got to its limit. 1.1556 to sixty feet for Ian C but thr bike was always heading left and took out the eighth-mile reflectors. Michal clocked 1.4596 to sixty feet and was safely out of the way when Rush crossed lanes. 1.0588 to sixty feet for Peter and 4.0664/191.01 at the eighth, riding through shake and blackstriping the rest of the laine Ian King shut off his motor before the burnout so Tim took the bye, but his Kawasaki's motor cut out at the hit. Another superb pass for Steve W put him into #2 spot, 1.1519 to sixty feet and 4.2548/177.70 at the eighth, Steve C staged aiming at 330 feet and went straight for it, having to shut off and pull it straight.

FIM/UEM Supertwin qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Svein Olav Rolfstad 7.7284/179.25 bye, Per Bengtsson 7.3037/176.40, Matti Vahasaari 7.2832/169.07, Ian Turburville 7.9742/152.03, Lorenz Stäuble 8.6018/170.27, Job Heezen 6.9211/192.94 bye, Tommy Möller no time, Roel Koedam 8.3692/170.34, Chris Hannam 7.5401/183.56, Hans Olav Olstad 7.9694/188.02

Svein Olav's bike sounded to run out of grunt past half track but a good baseline for tomorrow's further two sessions. A great first pass in FIM/UEM competition for Matti, his crew delighted. 1.2038 to sixty feet and 4.6671/157.86 at half track. 1.3149 to sixty feet for Per and 4.8303/164.19 at half track, a gentle pass but in the ladder and a good baseline. Straight run for Turbo, 1.3645 to sixty feet and 5.1878/153.57 at the eighth, whilst Lo headed for the right guardrail and had a real job to pull it back. Great run for Job, 1.1690 to sixty feet and 4.5022/165.47 to the eighth and into #1 spot at that point. A bang from Tommy's bike and he drew to a halt at half track. Roel's bike sounded to be hesitating at half track and he feathered the throttle in the second half. Hans Olav had pulled his burnout and was on the way back before Cannon's motor fired, Chief Starter Ian Marshall signalled Cannon to pull a short burnout but it looked as if that was the intention anyway. Nice pass for Cannon even with a long feather of the throttle at half track as the bike moved towards the centre line, Hans Olav meanwhile was pulling his bike away from the right guardrail.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Job Heezen 6.9211/192.94
  2. Hans Olav Olstad 7.0756/202.55

Hesitation off the line for Ray's Kawasaki but sounded OK when he got going. An improvement for Martin but he stayed in place. An impprovement for Fredrik moved him up to #2.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Ulf Ögge 7.2380/182.74
  2. Fredrik Fredlund 7.4768/175.64

  5. Ray Debben 10.0035/161.30

Super Pro ET qualifying session 9:

Norbert Schneider into first place with a perfect run in the first pairing, well done Norbert! Two pairs later John Tebenham moved from #29 to #18. Ray Eldred tells that the hearse supporting the Nosferatu Firebird this weekend was supplied by Gothic Limousines whose web site you can find at www.gothiclimousines.co.uk. The Firebird's engine made a grunting noise and Vince Gibbs shut off, hopefully the hearse won't be for that engine. Another big move for Nigel Payne in the next pairing, #21 up to #9, not bad for a car which normally runs heads-up!

Bad news next run as Martyn Jones had a high speed crash in his new Small Fortune dragster. The car was going great guns at the eighth when there was a huge cloud of smoke and the car went sideways and flipped, sliding into the guardrail just past the finish line and bouncing back to the other side of the track. Word is that Martyn got himself out of the car and he is now in the Medical Centre being checked out. A long trail of oil starting where the cloud of smoke appeared tells the story of that accident I think.

No sooner had we got going than Rick Cooke's dragster laid down about half a mile of oil. The track crew did the usual great job of clean-up.

Fuel Funny Car session 1 (left lane first):

Gary Page 12.7416/91.22 bye

More of a drift than a burnout for Gary but he had it well covered. 0.3681 RT and the tyres went up in smoke at the hit, amazing hourglass tyre tracks visible from Race Control.

Gordon Smith 6.0516/188.94 bye

A nice baseline pass. 1.0321 at sixty feet, 3.8460/218.83 at half track and shut off at about 900 feet.

First run for Marc's new Pro Mod and oh boy what a beautiful car! Builder and Eurodragster.com Andy Robinson was on the line in his firesuit supervising. 1.0740 to sixty feet then shake and a move to the right, Marc got off th throttle. Looked like no drive for Ray as he tried to burn out, shut off and pushed back so Kev took the bye. A very squirrelly run for Kev, 1.1674 to sixty feet and a few photographers stepped back as the Willys headed for the guardrail. Every time Kev hit the throttle the car moved about. Wayne signalled to shut off on his way back from the burnout, I am guessing that Bob of the track crew spotted a fluid leak. Checkout pass for Eurodragster.com sponsor Marco, a gentle launch, 1.1280 to sixty feet and off the throttle and chutes out at about 903 feet. 1.0360 to sixty feet for Graham and then shake and the Superbird turned to the right, a long pedal and 4.4583/163.37 at half track but still a pretty good ET and speed considering the pedal. 1.1238 to sixty feet for Henri, 4.5230/138.89 at half track. Robert shut off after the burnout, 0.0293 RT but then shake and smoke at the hit for Bert. A long pedal and then it sounded like no third gear so he shut off. A 250-foot burnout by Terje before his match-up with Rolf. 1.1393 to sixty for Terje, driving through shake and then pedalling as the car headed for the rail. Rolf's Coupe got to sixty feet in 1.0729 and he stayed with it whilst it moved left and right. Again no chutes for Rolf but he had experience of a handbrake turn during testing and made of off the track OK. A tremendous pass for Gus, 0.0683 Rt and 0.9930 to sixty feet, driving through a little shake, 3.9977/186.21 to half track which is only the second three-second half track I can remember seeing. 1.0585 to sixty feet for Kristian and then shake and shut off. 1.0657 to sixty feet for Mats and then shake which he calmly drove through as the Green Goblin headed for the centre line, 4.1799 at half track. Bruno got to sixty feet in 1.0203 but then hit shake about 200 feet out. 0.0873 RT for Micke G then tyres up in smoke, he pedalled but every time he hit the throttle the car moved about and he shut off. 1.0811 to sixty feet for Roger, 4.2907/175.69 at half track and again a flash of flame right on the finish line. Urban left Patrick for dead at the Tree 0.0790 to 0.5120, Patrick had the better sixty foot time 0.9889 to 1.0977, 4.0298/187.29 at half track to 4.2127/173.45. 1.0310 to sixty feet for Micke L on top of a 0.0694 RT, 4.0574/181.82 at half track but then smoke from the motor in the second half. Robert's tyres up in smoke off the line, 1.2135 to sixty feet and hitting shake, Robert pedalled and gave it another go but eventually had to shut off.

A long staging duel before the first pairing although probably new drivers just checking and double checking everything rather than trying to put one another off. A great pass for Fred, 0.9512 to sixty feet and 3.5956/211.91 at half track and the first half of a European speed record, well done Fred! A good first full pass on his new car for Esko, 1.1251 to sixty feet and the car started to drift to the right, Esko stayed with it, 4.1268/201.22 at half track. Dennis away first 0.0846 to 1.3097, 0.9197 to sixty feet for Dennis to Derek's 1.0588, 3.6012/205.78 at half track for Dennis, Derek looked to have cylinders out in the second half after getting to half track in 3.8944/204.24. A huge burnout from Grumpy, from Race Control the rest of planet Earth disappeared for a few seconds. Krister away first 0.0964 to 0.2681 and all of his incrementals were better, 0.9931 to sixty feet to Grumpy's 1.0640, 3.7144/208.96 at half track to Grumpy's 4.0090/202.93 and to the stripe first by 0.4588. A flash of flame from Krister's motor just before the finish line and he put the chutes out a touch early. -0.0619 red light for Paul, 0.9666 to sixty feet to Rob's 0.9317, Rob had the better eighth-mile 3.6076/204.07 to Paul's 3.6825/203.43 but then smoke from Rob's motor in the second half. Peter away first 0.0924 to 0.1030, 0.9367 sixty foot for Peter to Timo's 0.9941, Peter drove through shake whilst in the other lane a body panel came off Timo's dragster and flew into the other lane. 3.6729/203.83 at half track for Peter to Timo's 3.7721/206.02 and Peter there first by 0.0938.

Per Håkon's FC rolled the beams very slightly, 1.0488 to sixty feet, the car made a slight move to the right and Per Håkon stayed with it, 4.2021/164.49 at half track, squeezing the throttle on and off all the way. Steph's FC rolled the beams as the lights ran, 1.2837 to sixty feet, shake between about 218 feet and 334 feet and Steph shut off at about half track, 4.5450/156.40. Danny was on a stormer, 0.9935 to sixty feet but was the driving through shake by half track, 4.2636/140.14 and shut off as the FC got close to the right guardrail. 1.0674 to sixty feet for Jurgen, driving through shake and getting very close to the eighth and 990 foot reflectors but staying with it. Arvid away first 0.2112 to 0.4785, driving through shake, 3.9094/185.52 at half track. 1.0579 to sixty feet for Dan, driving through shake and getting close to the centre line, 4.0972/182.73 at half track and then we heard a burst panel blow at the top end, we are guessing Dan's. Ulf away first 0.1288 to 0.2360, 0.9951 sixty foot time for Leif to Ulf's 1.0350, Leif's FC as ever bouncing up and down but still 3.8278/195.39 at half track to Ulf's 4.0427/190.12.

FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Stig Neergaard shut off (bye), Anita Mäkelä 26.2738/60.21 bye, Jon Webster 8.1558/89.95, Micke Kågered 5.1106/222.15, Lex Joon 5.8688/173.01, Andy Carter 12.6480/66.42

First pass in the new car for Stig. The tyres didn't light on the burnout and then after he came back to the start line there was a bang in amongst the crackle and Stig shut off. Anita's motor fired and then shut off within seconds. Some headscratching from the team and then another go. No burnout, straight into stage and idled down the track - good strategy to get a time on the board but not obvious what was wrong. 0.9077 to sixty feet for Micke, 3.3128/248.68 at half track and shut off and chutes out at about 1000 feet. Superb 0.8748 to sixty feet for Eurodragster.com sponsor Jon, great guns to 330 feet, 2.3974, but then the rear tyres went up in smoke. From here it looked as if Jon tried to pedal but the tyres were really blazing and he shut off before half track. Finally the match-up we all wanted to see and which should last September have decided the Championship before the rain came confirming Andy's title. A huge -0.2259 red light for Andy, tyres up in smoke at the hit and the Lucas Oil dragster made a violent swerve, Andy pedalled and the tyres smoked even more and it sounded like the blower panel burst and there was a big flash of flame. A languid 1.2156 sixty foot for Lex but then the MPM Oil/Corporate Persuasion dragster visibly picked up, 3.6135/238.82 at half track, blackstriping all the way and shutting off at about 800 feet.

200-foot burnout for Jonas before his match-up with Harald. 1.0504 to sixty feet for Jonas, 4.5442/154.59 to the eighth, a haze of smoke from Jonas' GTO all the way and running down the left side of his lane. Some clean-up in Jonas' lane after the run. 1.3056 to sixty feet for Harald and then a hesitation, 5.0822/149.04 at half track but looking stronger in the second eighth. 201-foot burnout for Micke before his match-up with Tommy. A stormer for Tommy, 1.0023 to sixty feet and 4.3937/159.39 at the eighth - looks like the new Leanders Brothers Pro Stock clutch works OK! Micke hit immediate shake and shut off. Michael seemed to have a problem getting the car into stage and then 0.7337 RT, 1.0240 to sixty feet for Magnus and 4.4331/160.05 at half track. 1.0360 to sixty feet for Michael and 4.3941/160.67 to the eighth. Some smoke from Cannon's exhausts after start-up but it cleared very quickly. Daylight nitro flames from Roel's bike but the motor started to cough in the second half and Roel shut off. Cannon's first full pass on his new set-up and looked pretty easy so more to come. 1.1466 to sixty feet for Job then the rear slick hazed, he feathered the throttle and shut off. 1.2413 to sixty feet for Tommy then shut off before 330 feet. 1.1905 to sixty feet for Hans Olav, 4.6647/165.45 at the eighth, the bike heading for the centre line but Hans Olav had it covered. Pro ET qualifying session 8:

The timing crew have sorted the problem with Pro ET qualifying; we're aware that one of yesterday's sessions is still not showing correctly in our report but we will go back and correct it when we have time. Which will probably be Tuesday!

Hans van der Spek up from #11 to #8 in the first pairing of the day. Rick Denny up from #18 to #12 in mid-session. A nice 0.006 RT for Carla Pittau and then broke out by eighty nine ten thousandths! A couple of pairings later Carl Burton moved up from #17 to #12.

Good morning from Santa Pod Raceway for our coverage of the FIA Main Event brought to you in association with American Car Imports.

The Webster Race Engineering/Lex Joon Racing USA Tour 2009 webcam is on-line and posting a picture every sixty seconds.

Another beautiful day here at Santa Pod Raceway. Trackside conditions are 17.2 C, 55% humidity and 29.71 inches of air. We'll bring you the track temperature soon.

A big Hello to Viveca and Håkan Averstedt who are tuned in from what Viveca tells us is a wet Florida. Sorry to hear that guys but we hope it's not affecting your enjoyment of the coverage. Good morning also to everyone at Shakespeare County Raceway who are tuned in via their laptops, to Mathias Wienand - no more nightmares we hope Mathias - and to Stephen Moon. Pity you can't be here guys but hope we are providing a reasonable alternative. More thanks to Syd McDonald who this morning brought us some delicious bacon baps.

We're due to start at 9:00 with a cycle of Sportsman qualifying, the Pro classes are due at 10:30 and 14:30 with Sportsman qualifying in between and after. Stay tuned and as soon as the motors fire up we'll start to bring you the news.
