Race officials later decided the times recorded for this session would not stand and would be re-run on Saturday morning.

Susanne Callin 5.685/186.81 v Jndia Erbacher 5.555/174.03, synchronised up in smoke at around 330ft and Jndia's parachutes deployed, nevertheless both improved at the expense of Dennis who dropped to the foot of the standings. Final car to go Antti Horto, up in smoke before 330ft mark and lifted to 5.425/204.55 which placed him in #2.

Silvio Strauch launched 0.923 to 60ft then the revs reached for the moon, sounding like a gearchange issue, and the burst panel went with a bang, 13.564/55.26. Tony Bryntesson 7.207/331.14 v Sandro Bellio 7.657/202.87 next, cylinders out with plumes of unburnt nitro for Tony, tyre shake and pedalling for Sandro but in the right direction for him. Final pair Jonny Lagg who left before the tree ran and had a cylinder out going down the track and Linn Flřysvik 5.871/333.32 (1.003 to 60ft and 3.793/324.99), consistent run for Linn.

Walle Strobel with his second licensing pass, not a full throttle launch and got into a slight pendulum motion at 330ft and lifted. News from Kirstie that Andres Arnover's parachute deployed in the pairing lanes and had to return to the pits. Marcus Hilt (tyres did not light on the burnout) NTR car rolled through beams v Ingo Eckert 8.037/189.23. Peter Wacker 7.019/309.48 v Sponsor Andy Robinson's team discovered a problem again with the rear axle but returned for this session 6.640/349.40 improvement despite a substantial pedal at half track after the car got twitchy. Bruno Bader has worked hard to regain consistency after moving from a Pro Mag ignition system to Fueltech 8 coil system, the benefits showing in a 6.197/371.57.

Next the blown cars of Michel Tooren 8.778/167,48 and Marck Harteveld 7,019/231.17 who got close to the centre line and also lifted. Jan Ericsson 6.031/376.21 v Marcus Perman 6.221/358.51, both stayed in position. David Vegter's team discovered piston and ring damage and worked hard to fit replacement parts before session 2, running 5.998/382.97 alongside Mats Eriksson 5.950/387.27 side by side fives in the deteriorating air.
