0.9927 to sixty for Sampsa, no hint of shake, 4.2967/264.97 at the eighth. Magnus to sixty in 1.0292, Nixxon in 1.0329, Nixxon's car made a sudden move left at about 330 feet and he was off the gas. Magnus through the eighth in 4.3525/263.03. SImon to sixty in 1.0039, Christian in 1.1211 with a hint of shake, Simon to the eighth in 4.3162/263.16 to Christian's 4.4868/264.32 then Christian got off the gas and put the chutes out to very evident "WTF?" body language from his crew. Great match between Bengt and Robin, Bengt to sixty in 0.9920 to Robin's 0.9977, no hint of shake for either, Bengt with the better eighth 4.2533/267.59 to 4.2734/265.88 but an improvement for Robin good for a place up the ladder. Jimmy to sixty in 1.0047, instant shake for Michael which made the car look like it had stopped dead, 1.5025 to sixty. Jimmy to the eighth in 4.2480/270.41.

FIA Top Methanol qualifying session 2 (left lane first)

Ari Pietilä 9.3539/153.41 bye; Sandro Bellio 5.8070/303.54, Micke Larsson 5.9059/343.07; Johnny Lagg 8.3463/158.64 bye

Engine revs didn't sound right when Ari was in stage. 1.1176 to sixty with shake, a feather of the throttle, back on it, then off the gas before 330 feet. Spotters out right along the lane, mop-and-Billys clean-up then a tractor called out. Nice conditions for the motors but Sandro's screen needed wiping clear of condensation before his burnout. Sandro in pre-stage a long while before Micke went in then 0.9559 to sixty to Micke's 1.0241 driving through shake, the much better eighth 3.6410/339.62 to Micke's 3.8470/317.83 having lost time to shake, but sounded as if Sandro's burst plate let go at 1000 feet. Stuttering burnout for Johnny. 0.9295 to sixty then a drift left and a pedal, pulled it back and back on it, shut it off, read the minds of his crew on the start line waving frantically.

Qualifying after this session:

Another nice burnout for Tero, car turned right as he got off the gas but he had a good hold of it. Tero's first full pass in the new car so far as I know. 1.0334 to sixty, 4.3126/272.31 at the eighth, had to pedal and pull it away from the rail towards half track. Peter to sixty in 1.0033, Erik with shake got to sixty in 1.4310, a pedal then back on it and the car headed left. Peter to the eighth in 4.2642/275.23, Erik crossed into the left lane and took out the eighth-mile reflectors. Pulled it back into his lane but run lost to a DQ. Jan's motor stopped in the burnout, start line crew rushed to assist and to push the car out of the way. David took the bye, 0.9952 to sixty, car started skating towards half-track, 4.1091/233.77 at the eighth already off the gas. When was the last time you saw Jimmy at the bottom of a qualifying list, I'd hazard a guess that this is the last time. Mikko to sixty in 1.1847, Jimmy in 1.0274 driving through shale but the back of the car looked to jump up and Jimmy was off the gas. Mikko to the eighth in 4.4451/271.49 to Jimmy's shut off 5.4520/144.54, a big belch of heat haze from Mikko's right side, shut it off before the stripe. No reverse for Mats after his burnout, frantic efforts by his crew to help but no joy and had to drive down the track. Instant spin for Micke J, several pedals to no effect, 1.4940 at sixty already a lost cause. Roger to sixty in 0.9872, Rolf in 0.9944, small move left for Rolf. Roger a little left of centre towards the eighth 3.9675/305.78 to Rolf's 3.9907/296.22, smoke from Rolf's motor on the stripe which obscured his lane in the shutdown area. Track checked and all OK. Lars to sixty in 1.0373, Kim in 1.0369 but then Kim hit shake which shook both chutes out, off the gas. Lars to the eighth in 4.1089/292.84. Dmity to sixty in 1.0364, shake for Marcus and a pedal, 1.3018 at sixty and time lost. Dmitry visibly ahead at the eighth 4.0226/308.92 to Marcus' 4.7506/281.25. Freddy to sixty in 1.0066, Andreas in 1.0164 driving through shake with a move left and right, Freddy with the faster eighth 4.0817/295.24 to Andreas' quicker 4.0608/283.17. Michael to sixty in 1.0555, Michel in 1.0724 with shake, a pedal, more shake and off the pedal. Michael to the eighth in 4.0095/313.41, improvement but stayed in place 0.0003 behind Roger Johansson. Micke G to sixty in 0.9713, a move right, shake for Åke by sixty 0.1339, Åke tried to drive through the shake, Micke to the eighth in 3.8801/309.99, Åke had given it up by then as the car made a move, 4.6812/215.74. Jan to sixty in 0.9734, Jere in 1.0499 looking to drive through shake, Jan blitzed the eighth 3.8154/316.72 to Jere's 4.0456/313.59 fishtailing. Jan's motor grunted at about 1000 feet. Improvement for Jere but stayed in place.

Vesa to sixty in 1.1684 but headed right and had to feather the throttle, back on it but lost time to the feather. Willem was still in pre-stage as the Tree ran, lighting the big cherry. Hit it but to no avail. Hans to sixty in 1.2856, bike headed left and got close to the guardrail, off the gas. Peter A to sixty ub 1,1866, 1.2566 for Peter A-S heading for the centre line and had to feather the throttle. Tremendous drifting burnout for Jan Sturla, meanwhile Thomas climbed off his bike and pushed back. Jan Sturla took the bye, 1.1130 to sixty, the bike headed left but you could see Jan Sturla climbing all over the bike to get it back. 4.4673/264.19 at the eighth, smoke from the motor by then and the smoke continued to the stripe.

Erling's motor stopped in the burnout, pushed back. Drama in the next pair, Greger's bike headed left and crossed the centre line, off the gas, meanwhile Teemu had got off the gas and was right alongside Greger as he crossed lanes, Teemu put out his right leg to try to keep Greger away but Greger's bike hit Teemu's bike side-on, which sent Teemu's bike into the guardrail. Teemu kept it upright and got stopped, safety crews sped to help. Teemu and Greger both OK we understand. Burnout to the Tree for Tommy Lee. A thought for the late Björn Mårtensson who was entered for this race. There will be a tribute tomorrow. Patrik to sixty in 0.9621, Dennis in 1.2858, Patrik had cylinders out on the left side, 330 feet in 2.4585/265.23 ahead of Dennis' 3.0140/234.07 but the dead cylinders weren't clearing and then the inevitable happened, a flash of flame from the motor and the safety device put the chutes out, 3.8372/248.05 at the eighth. Dennis to the eighth in 4.2732/319.15. Timo's tyres straight up in smoke, 1.1852 to sixty already off the gas. Tet to sixty in 0.8606, 330 feet in 2.2315/293.36, smoke from the motor at the eighth 3.2206/394.45 and from here the car's body language looked to betray a broken blower belt. Micke to sixty in 0.9393, Stig in 0.9174 with tyres blackstriping. Micke to 330 feet in 2.3778/280.96, the dragster swaying left and right and one more serious move right but Micke had a hold of it. Stig to 330 feet in 2.2742/303.20, Micke looked to get off the gas before the eighth 3.4216/386.27, Stig still on the gas and blackstriping at the eighth 3.2320/427.55 and then a bang and a flash of flame from his motor right on the thousand. Stig's speed equates to 299.05 mph. Careful track check and the tractors and Berrymans trailer called to the top end, greasweep laid the length of the shutdown area.

On the restart Jndia and Liam ready to stage but shut off for spots of rain. It was initially light rain and quickly tailed off but then a brief shower which visibly wet the track. However shortly afterwards the sun emerged from the breaking cloud. That and the excellent efforts of the track crew got us going again.

On the restart brief burnouts for both Jndia and Liam. Jndia to sixty in 0.8749, Liam in 0.8537 then shake and off the gas. Jndia going great guns at 330 feet 2.2102/310.70 then just before the eighth 3.1278/433.04 what looked like a kickout or body panel came off the car and Jndia got off the gas. Similar to Hockenheim last week, a short squirt of a burnout for Maja. Maja to sixty in 0.8876, Anita in a storming 0.8595, Anita with the quicker 330 foot time 2.1875/310.17 to Maja's faster 2.2362/313.41 (194.74 mph). Maja to the eighth in 3.1554/437.25 (271.69 mph) and a drift left, off the gas right after the eighth. Anita to the eighth in 3.1224/439.74 (273.24 mph), smoke from the motor and looked to be off the gas a tick before the stripe. Anita's terminal speed equates to 296.67 mph.

  2. Stig Neergaard 4.0364/481.28

Sampsa to the eighth in 4.3785/261.25. Jonas to sixty in 1.0748, Magnus in 1.0149, Magnus had pulled out a visible lead at the eighth 4.3500/263.16 to Jonas' 4.5263/253.76, Jonas looked to have backed out of it just before the stripe. Christian with the quicker sixty 1.0174 to Thomas' 1.0428, didn't really see or feel any shake from here. Thomas with the quicker eighth 4.3220/267.06 to Christian's 4.3775/264.32, from here it looked as if Christian had shut it off but it was an illusion, Thomas was moving faster by comparison. First outing for Tero's stunning new Camaro, completed a few days ago. Nice burnout, stopped at 330 feet then couldn't get reverse and was signalled to drive down the track. Mikko's motor took a couple of shots to fire up. Great burnout, you don't often see such straight tyre tracks and certainly not from a Pro Mod. 1.2315 to sixty heading left, a couple of pedals approaching the centre line and off the gas. Erik couldn't get reverse after his burnout and quickly made the decision to drive down the track. Micke with almost instant shake, a pedal, 1.2245 to sixty, back on the gas, 5.6907/155.75 at the eighth already off the gas. Only one of Rolf's tyres really lit in the burnout and the motor sounded to be misfiring. High-altitude nitrous purges for Rolf. Rolf's tyre sup in smoke at the hit, pedalled and tried again and the car moved right so off the gas. Michael to sixty in 1.0710, big speed at the eighth 4.0166/316.90. Åke to sixty in 1.0672 with shake but drove through it, shake for Lars also 1.2079 and pedalled as the car moved left and right. Freddy to sixty in 1.0919 driving through shake, 4.3336/291.58 at the eighth. Jere to sixty in 1.0360, Dmitry in 1.1243, Dmitry was audibly driving through shake, the car making moves before the eighth. Jere to the eighth in 4.0953/310.88, looked effortless, Dmitry in 4.2697/294.60 heading for the centre line, puff of smoke from the motor and off the gas. Tyres spun at the hit for Kim, 1.7042 to sixty with engine screaming at such a high pitch that dogs in Gävle probably pricked up their ears. Roger to sixty in 1.0105, Mustang headed right, pedalled and off the gas before the eighth 5.6963/177.63. Not much of a burnout for Peter, off the gas before sixty 1.4292. Michel to sixty in 0.9974, a pedal about 100 feet out after a slight move left, 4.2658/294.12 at the eighth. Andreas to sixty in 1.0103, Micke storming it at 0.9721, Andreas hit shake, pedalled, gave it another go then gave it up. Micke straight down the middle of his lane, 3.8676/311.42 at the eighth. On the restart a 7.5929 breakout for Trond Nordby on a previous best of 7.7248, found it now just needs to lose some of it. Mnext pair and a 7.6229 for Pär Norgren good for #10. Jussi Pippolainen going great guns but smoke from the motor, backed out of it and put the chute out. Track checked and all OK. First look at Roar Myhr's Camaro... now I know what I want for my birthday, what a beautiful car. Double step on launch then moved right and backed out of it. I do wonder if 7.6566 (so far) is Pro Street's quickest-ever bump spot; back in June here it was 7.6916.
