Pro Stock Bike racer Thomas Olsen is in his first season and rides a bike previously owned by Gabriella Nikolovska. He ran a new PB 7.604/278 in round one. You can read more about him in Remco Scheeling's article in www.dragbike.com

Pro Stock Bike racer Fredrick Fredlund ran a 7.173 to go no.2 in qualifying and defeated Thomas Olsen with a 7.136, the times a couple of hundredths quicker in the cooler air today.

Super Street Bike racer Stefan Schmidt was ready to race as first alternate and got his opportunity when Stephen Mead (who recorded a new PB of 7.34 yesterday) was unable to start. Stefan then defeated Steve Wood who had problems on his run.

Super Street Bike racer Pete Field qualified second with a 7.289/320kph. In round one, he improved to 7.211 second low ET of the round.

Super Street Bike racer Garry Bowe, pictured with son and crewman David, qualified in no.1 position and also ran the quickest ET of round one at 7.164.

Super Twin Gas racer Martin Bühler from Switzerland runs a large charge cooler on his machine. He went 11.07 to qualify 13th. His bike is ex-Otto Bauer, who ran it to a best of 8.5s in the early 2000s.

Super Twin Gas racer Olaf Menzi (his crew sitting on the bike) has acquired the Buell machine of Pro Stock Bike racer Ulf Ögge. Olaf went 8.258 to go fourth but there is plenty of potential for quicker times.

Super Twin Gas racer Mats Larsson's bike also has a large charge cooler as part of the turbo setup. He said 'I made this myself and run my bike at Malmö and Kjula raceways'. He qualified 17th making him first alternate in the 16 bike field.

Super Twin Gas racer Herman Jolink from Holland, who supplies us with his excellent reports on the class, qualified sixth and drew a large cheer from the crowd he has been entertaining for almost 40 years.

Top Fuel racer Duncan Micallef said that in the final qualifying session his tyres were hazing and then gripped again. 'It is important to go quick here as the last two races of the championship are at quick tracks'. Duncan ran another tyre-hazing 4.39 to defeat an engine-exploding Anita Mäkelä.

Happy Birthday to British Drag Racing Hall of Fame member Gary Page, who is crewing for Liam Jones at this event. He said 'This is the hottest meeting I have ever known and it's good the temperatures are cooler today.' Gary is crewing for Liam Jones and as a birthday present Liam got through round one.

Top Fuel Bike racer Ian King qualified no.1 with a 6.14. His appearance at the night show was cut short when a blower pulley came off (you will see it in our gallery to the left of the picture). Team engineer Marius van der Zijden said 'We have had to replace the pulley with a larger one which results in the power reducing so you won't see any record times'.

Competition Eliminator racer Silvio Strauch ran a PB of 6.644/339kph in qualifying. The car has a Spitzer chassis and Brad Anderson engine. More details (in German) are here

Pro Mod racer Roland Bolleter's 903cu in engine helped him to his first round win in the class against Eurodragster.com sponsor Marco Maurischat. He said 'I wanted to see the green and was a bit later in leaving, but Marco had a burst plate go and I kept on the throttle and passed him. This was good for the team - they were getting bored towing me back!'

Pro Mod racer Jean Dulamon, pictured with son Davy, suffered a broken spark plug on his no.1 cylinder. He said 'The cylinder went out early and engine hit the rev limiter, so a 6.51 on seven cylinders was good'. Jean suspected the plug damaged a piston and without enough time to rebuild, Jean was a no-show in round 2.

Pro Mod racer Micke Gullqvist was battling clutch issues. He said 'We have a two disc clutch although the rules allow three. It was slipping quite badly so we have tightened it up but is still slipping. We thank Stavdahl, Kjelland and Pampas Marine (a big marina in Stockholm) for their support.' As head of Speedgroup, Micke is looking forward to a more consistent quality of tracks and events in future FIA championships and a more unified championship.

Super Street Bike racer Rick Stubbins ran a 7.34 in his first round defeat of Knut Möller. He said 'The bike jumped out of gear but then went back in however otherwise we have had a good event.' He also got through round two against a broken Thomas Granica, and there are three Brits in the semi finals.

Super Street Bike racer Sandro Haldiman is from Belp in Switzerland and he has formed a supporters club, Drag Racing Team Belp, who are visible in the grandstands by waving large Swiss flags, and their presence in the pits. He said 'I have been racing Super Street Bike since 2012 and have been to Santa Pod, France, Holland and the Czech Republic to race. My bike has a Garrett GT35 turbo and MTC slider clutch.'

Bob Hawkins and Sarah Howells are on hand to make a demo pass this afternoon. Bob's fire burnout last night was one of the most memorable. He said 'The breeze caught the flame and blew it forward. Some got into the bug catcher which drew it in and robbed the engine of oxygen. The whole of this time, the blower bag was fire. When I moved the engine got more oxygen and only just kept running so I got away with it. On the run the car made a hard move to the right at 1000ft but I got it back and ran a full quarter; the timing to the eighth was consistent with a six second pass'. Sarah was unable to join Bob in the fire burnouts as the track surface was damaged from some of the previous night show action.

Super Pro ET racer Pel Norman was qualified as 34th and came to the start line as second alternate. He said 'We had problems yesterday, we run on pump gas and it evaporates very easily and so the car can be difficult to start in the hot conditions. We won the race over Sylvain Nowak but had a huge wheelie - it went up on the launch and I kept my foot in it. I didn't realise I won until the other team told me'. In round two there was some confusion over the result and Pel was awarded a rerun which Thomas Haas won. Pel's car doesn't have a wheelie bar - he commented 'That's something we'll be doing over the winter'.

Super Pro ET racer Colin Millar went out in round one. He said 'The track is fantastic - we ran a 8.19 at the last meeting and thought we would lose two tenths to the heat and dialled 8.35. But we ran 8.22 in a double breakout and red lit'. After the event the car is being transported on Tuesday from Rotterdam to Hull, from where it will be shipped to Long Beach, California. 'I plan to pick the car up on 14 October and go to Bakersfield for an ANRA meeting in B/Gas (no nitrous) and the CHRR (as exhibition). I will then do Super Comp in the NHRA Yellow Mellow and Top Sportsman in the Lucas Oil events at Las Vegas and finish in SC at the Pomona Finals. We will only run nitrous in Top Sportsman and will be going for 7.6s at that event'.

Competition Eliminator racer Jens Eklund runs an Audi A5 which has attracted a lot of media attention as the team have got the 2400cc stock block car to run as quick as 7.11/311 with extra weight removed. Crew chief Daniel Oscarsson said 'The car was built by Jens and I in 2008 after we had an Audi S4 four wheel drive which was the quickest street car of its type in Europe. We bought a low mileage ex-show A5 and fitted the body to the chassis. The internal parts of the engine are imported from the US where we found cheaper sources of custom built parts. The block was originally a diesel but we now run it on methanol. The turbo is by Borg Warner adapted from double inlet to single inlet for the five cylinder engine. The gearbox is a Pro Stock style Liberty five speed. The car is definitely lower maintenance than a V8 and our first engine was good for a season and a half'.

Our pit vehicle of the event is this Chevy B400 truck which has event stickers from NHRA 1970 meetings in Dallas, Ontario and Indy. It is carrying a vintage slingshot that was seen at the NitrOlympX in 1990.
