FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 2 (left lane first)

Anita Mäkelä 18.7020/37.59 bye; Antti Hortto 4.4699/397.06 bye; Jari Halinen shut off, Janne Ahonen 7.9858/126.79 bye

0.9750 to sixty for Anita by which time her blower belt had broken. The motor stopped pretty much dead when the belt broke. Tell you what, though: that car was on one for 0.974 seconds, sounded very strong indeed. Antti's run was one of those which looked quicker than the ET which came up. 0.8904 to sixty, 2.3420 at 330 feet, 3.4968/351.56 at the eighth. Candles lit all the way, we were all surprised by the ET. Improvement and good for one place on the ladder. An almighty shove from Jari's crew to propel the car to the bleach box for his burnout. Jari shut off before staging. Storming 0.8570 to sixty feet for Janne on his bye, 2.6442 to 330 feet with tyres blazing - from here the car was there one moment and hidden behind smoke the next - and Janne shut it off.

1.1420 to sixty for Stefan with a hesitation from the motor, then the car made a move for the wall and Stefan got off the gas. Looked a close thing from here. Jari shut off for a fluid leak, Anders took the bye. 1.0345 to sixty, two pedals at just about 100 feet, 4.1296/288.77 at the eighth and into the ladder at #8. Fishtail-fest between David and Micke. 1.0156 to sixty for David to Micke's 1.0665, bith tried to drive through shake with their cars making a move for the guardrail and the centre line respectively. Stellar performance from Micke in the Twins' turbo car in Comp Eliminator, could he do the same here? The answer was unfortunately not. 1.1288 to sixty for Micke to Bert-Ole's 1.0726, then both hit shake simultaneously. And it was bad shake, it came up through the floor here in Race Control. Both shut off and rolled through. Great 0.0331 RT for Robert, 0.9949 to sixty feet. Mattias tried to drive through shake, 1.9630 to sixty, the car was moving further and further left and from here it looked as if there was a fag paper between him and the guardrail. Some shake for Robert but he drove through it, 4.1559/281.69 at the eighth and up the ladder. Mats' car didn't move on the green, start line crew rushed to make sure all was OK. 1.0021 to sixty for Johan, a couple of brief pedals at about 300 feet, still 4.0793.301.84 at the eighth and up into third. Great match between Marc and Martin although not on RTs as Marc was long gone whilst Martin picked up the revs. 1.0325 sixty for Marc to Martin's 1.0528, 4.0758/294.44 at the eighth for Marc and 4.1306 for Martin. Great 0.0705 RT for Ola. 1.0979 to sixty to the quicker 1.0399 for Eurodragster.com sponsor Marco who had his hands full as he hit shake and the Vette moved for the centre line. 4.1327/296.87 at the eighth for Ola, Marco had shut it off by then. Fantastic pairing between Bruno and Freddy. 0.0922 RT for Bruno. 1.0061 to sixty for Bruno and 0.9877 for Freddy. A pair of three-second eighths 3.9409/301.68 for Bruno to Freddy's 3.9940/297.36, Bruno close to the guardrail but stayed on it. Freddy up into second. Another fantastic pair between Urban and Micke, to start with at least. 0.0813 RT for Micke, 0.9892 to sixty for Urban to Micke's 0.9897. Micke hit shake and tried very hard to drive through it but had to back off as the Camaro turned left and right and almost touched the centre line, 4.2911/220.59 at the eighth. Great guns for Urban at the eighth, 3.9530/302.52 and took his second place back.

Jonas; crew had trouble gettig the FC's body latched and eventually they signalled to Jonas to shut it off. Piling Pelion upon Ossa, the tow rope broke as the team went to tow him away. 1.0136 to sixty for Jonnie, a couple of pedals for shake, 4.0475/270.95 at the eighth staying with it as the FC got close to the wall. Ulf first to get a go at backing up a record from session 1. Arvid left as Ulf staged, wasted what looked like a good run but got very close to the wall about 900 feet out. Fantastic run for Ulf, 0.9818 to sixty feet, the car just picked up its skirts and went. 3.7323/329.67 and Ulf's 413.79 backed up by his earlier 412.84 for a new European speed record, well done Ulf and Jörgen! Ulf's 5.6419 not qute backed up by his session 1 ET but good enough for #1 spot. Well, that speed record lasted about a minute as Leif blasted the quickest and fastest ever run in European TMFC history, the 417.96 backed up by Leif's earlier 414.11 for a new record. 0.9435 to sixty, no sign of shake, straight run, 3.6711/334.9 at the eighth. Dennis with a nice 0.0966 RT but really not much between his incrementals and those of Peter. 0.9388 to sixty for Dennis to Peter's slightly better 0.9383; Peter had the better eighth 3.5669/337.50 to Dennis' 3.6163/337.50 - identical eighth-mile speeds, how about that? Big improvement for Peter but one place up the ladder, shows just how good this class is. Fantatic run between Grumpy and Timo. First outing of the weekend for Ulf. Nice pass to, 1.2804 to sixty, 4.8519/257.63 at the eighth and leaning the bike to keep it straight. New PB for Ulf, well done Ulf! Christian back on form and into #2 spot at that point. 1.1213 to sixty and 4.3541/273.69 at the eighth, quite a straight pass. Kari pushed away without starting. 1,2188 to sixty for Matt, 5.0383/226.51 at the eighth, good baseline for his first run of the weekend, straight pass. Big, drifting burnout for Trond. Smoke, bang and flash of flame from Trond's motor at the hit, belt came off the bike and that was that for his run. 1.2221 to sixty for Greger, 5.2025/233.46 at the eighth and a big move up the ladder which up to that point he had been propping up. Martijn deep-staged and I am guessing moved just as the starter hit the switch as the red lit and no time. 1.2418 to sixty for Torbjörn, 4.8406/243.46 at the eighth. Improvement and up the ladder. 1.1361 to sixty for Anna, 1.2250 for Harri then he shut it off. 4.9706/217.48 at the eighth for Anna and into the sevens. Fantastic run for Per, been promising that for a while. 1.2897 to sixty, 5.1682/217.48, clean run and almost straight, on a new European speed record, well done Per! 1.3182 for Roman on his bye then lost drive at about half track, similar to last run. Nice run for Samu. 1,1708 to sixty front wheel down about 300 feet out, 4.5608/269.19 at the eighth, but no improvement on his previous run. What could Nate to in response to Per's stormer? 1.1400 to sixty and 4.3402/285.87 to the eighth. In the other lane a strong launch for Job, 1.1633 to sixty but off the throttle before half track, 4.4672/275.79

FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Top Fuel Dragster is of course running over 1000 feet. Any comments on that can be addressed to anyone but me thank you.

Janne Ahonen 4.3313/372.93, Håkan Fällström 4.2481/387.93; Antti Hortto 4.6335/395.31, Micke Kågered 6.5414/147.99; Chris Andrews 4.5153/329.07, Jari Halinen 4.226/381.90; Anita Mäkelä 4.8393/233.97, Risto Poutiainen 6.0272/174.53

Great 0.0443 RT for Janne in his new car but then Håkan had the better incrementals all the way as you could see Janne's motor trying to eat itself up especially after about 500 feet. 0.8996 to sixty for Håkan to Janne's 0.9383, 2.3088 to 330 feet to Janne's 2.3473. By the time they got to the eighth Janne's header flames were getting more and more orange and less and less transparent, 3.3839/387.93 and looked from here as he shut it off just before the stripe and the ART dragster was close to the centre line. 3.3318/397.35 to the eighth for Håkan, there first by a touch at the thousand but then no chutes and into the kitty litter at the end of the shutdown area.

On the re-start looked like a pair of relatively conservative tune-ups on launch. Not much between Antti's and Micke's sixty foot times 0.9367 for Antti to Micke's 0.9352. 2.4221 to 330 feet for Antti to Micke's 2.4416, then flame from the right side of Micke's motor. From where I was sat it looked like a blown gasket but there was a fair bit of flame on that side. 3.6215/334.99 to the eighth for Antti with some smoke from his motor, Micke long off the throttle by then 4.2566/185.50.

Clean-up in Micke's lane then Chris and Jari faced off. We met Chris and tuner Ben in the pits when we got here on Wednesday and both expressed themselves very happy with the way things are going so far. Nice match-up between Chris and Jari, great 0.0868 RT for Chris. 0.9035 to 0.9335 sixty in Jari's favour. 2.2906 to 330 for Jari to Chris' 2.4054 Chris shut off not long after that point, I suspect as planned since this was only the second run in that car. 3.2995/400.89 to the eighth for Jari, #1 spot at the stripe. Next up Anita v Risto. Anita away first 0.1026 to 0.1078. Better sixty for Risto 0.9306 to 0.9858, Anita looking strong at 300 feet 2.3471 to 2.4466. Smoke from Risto's car, looked from here like tyres hazing but he was off the throttle before the eighth 4.0635/212.85. In the other lane smoke and then a huge ball of flame from Anita's motor, 3.4514/311.24 at the eighth and that was the end of her run.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Jari Halinen 4.2260/381.90

  6. Anita Mäkelä 4.8393/233.97
  7. Risto Poutiainen 6.0272/174.53
  8. Micke Kågered 6.5414/147.99

Anders Nilsson's 'Cuda was pushed out of the staging lanes, did not start. Bye for Fredrik. 1.0614 to sixty, the Nova jumped up and down visibly at the hit and was moving around the lane in the first eighth. 4.3311/265.62 to the eighth and straightened out nicely in the second half. 1.0767 to sixty for Mats and 1.0692 for Terje then he hit shake and his motor zinged, shut it off. 4.8649/219.96 to the eighth for Mats but then the 'Vette started to move left and right, a pedal then back on the gas. 1.0741 to sixty for Martin, th ecar quickly starting to move about its lane though and he shut it off after a particularly violent fishtail at about half track, 4.6108/233.46. Storming 0.9917 to sixty for Mattias but then he had to drive through shake and the car started to turn left and right. He stayed with it, 4.1943/252.69 at the eighth, great driving job. Pretty much instant violent shake for Niclas and he was off the throttle past the Tree. 1.0017 to sixty for Ola, 4.0376/295.57 at the eighth, car started to move around in the second eighth and he shut it off and had the chutes out before the stripe so more to come there. The usual huge burnout by Freddy followed by a high-speed back-up. 1.0032 to sixty for Patrik then hit bad shake, the Camaro moved left and right and he shut it off. 0.9958 to sixty for Freddy, today's first three-second eighth at 3.9957/295.73 and into the lead, the pick-up straight down the middle of its lane. Bye for Johan. 1.0649 to sixty, looked to be taking it easy after that. 4.7858/218.96 at the eighth and shut off as the Viper got close to the centre line. Jari shut off after the burnout. Eurodragster.com sponsor Marco took the bye. Rolled the beams very slightly, 1.0287 to sixty feet, shake and a brief pedal. 4,3528/271.08 to the eighth and looked to shut off a touch early. Freddy-rivalling burnouts by Jan and Tami. 1.0585 to sixty for Jan to Tami's 1.0313, then all eyes on the Badillac as it hit appalling shake and turned hard right. Jan was off the throttle but the car crossed lanes and took out the 264 foot reflector (there is a 330 foot speed trap here before anyone tries to correct me). Tami was on a stormer, 4.0687/295.24 at the eighth, very straight pass. Great run by Gullan and our first five of the weekend, surely not our last, first half of a European ET record. Storming 0.9739 to sixty for Gullan to Micke L's 1.0073, one of the best eighths I have ever seen 3.9338/308.92, Micke in the other ane was going great guns 4.0141/286.03 but shut it off before the stripe. 1.0140 to sixty for Robert, 1.0329 for Urban. Robert drove through shake which made his right side door open. 4.5174/224.07 already shut off at the the eighth, 4.0017/299.00 for Urban going great guns. 1.0355 to sixty for Bert-Ove and 1.0603 for Johan, then both had shake to contend with. A pedal from Bert-Ove and off came the blower belt. A couple of pedals for Johan then back on it, 4.3922/289.34 at the eighth. Good baseline for Marc. 1.0339 to sixty, minor fishtailing but stayed on the throttle, 4.1219/293.32 at the eighth for the MPM Oil-sponsored racer. Fellow MPM Oil team racer David next up on a bye, 1.0094 to sixty then hit shake and the car turned to the right. Shut it off before the eighth. Very nice pass for Bruno. 0.9926 to sixty and you could see the car dig in and accelerate hard. 4.0084/293.64 to the eighth, very straight pass.

FIA Top Methanol Funny Car qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Jonnie Lindberg 6.1056/365.11 bye; Leif Andréasson 5.6592/414.11 bye; Ulf Leanders 5.7068/412.84, Micke Larsson 6.3149/326.09; Jürgen Nagel 7.1959/265.23, Danny Bellio 5.6968/395.89

Jonnie's first competitive outing in TMFC. 1.0485 to sixty, car was bouncing just before the eighth 4.0140/295.73, Jonnie pedalled it a couple of times and then shut off after the eighth. Good start to his TMFC career though. Fantastic run for Leif, somehow finding time amongst his Tierp Arena duties to get in a pass and do the first half of European ET and speed records. 0.9446 to sixty feet, straight as you like and no sign of shake. 3.7435/328.07 to the eighth, a cleaner TMFC pass you'll never see. Session 1 and we're on a record, how about that, well done Leif! How would traditional rival Ulf respond? By also doing the first half of a European speed record. 0.9863 to sixty for Ulf, Micke got to sixty feet in 1.1328 and drove through shake which we felt up here in Race Control. 3.7877/326.28 to the eighth for Ulf, another straight-down-the-lane pass whilst Micke had lost some time to the shake, 4.1214/302.69 at the eighth. Jürgen's FC left the line in a languid manner with a cylinder out, 1.2099 to sixty feet. In the other lane Danny was on stormer, 0.9710 to sixty feet. Jürgen's FC made a move towards the left guardrail and he lost time pedalling, 4.5674/248.28 at the eighth and shut off. 3.7512/327.87 to the eighth for Danny and a new PB, well done Danny!

FIA Pro Stock qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Christian Sagelv shut off, Mats Jacobsson 7.0618/322.97 bye; Harald Sturhan shut off, Jan Palmqvist 6.7944/328.07 bye; Bo Pettersson 7.6104/304.40, Ulf Wagnhester 6.8818/315.60; Jonas Dantanus 21.4775/30.91, Sampsa Palos 10.7955/132.68; Michael Malmgren 12.3533/111.57, Jimmy Ålund 6.7094/334.37; Micke Callin shut off, Thomas Lindström 6.9505/266.93 bye

Christian shut it off before staging, clean-up in his lane. Mats took the bye. Nice pass, 1.1372 to sixty, a brief move left and right around the eighth 4.5901/254.84. We believe a new PB for Mats, well done Mats! New motor for Harald, we understand; a pop from that new motor in stage and it stopped. Bye for Jan, nice 0.9991 to sixty, 4.3706/260.62 at the eighth, very close to his Personal Best on his first competitive outing this season. Great launches for Bo and Ulf, 1.0670 to sixty for Bo and 1.0241 for Ulf, Bo's car started to move around its lane after sixty feet and he shut off as it made a hard move for the centre line about 400 feet out. 4.4261/257.76 to the eighth for Ulf and we believe a new PB for him, well done Ulf! 1.0324 to sixty feet for Sampsa, in the other lane Jonas' motor was screaming but the car wasn't making any progress and Dante shut it off. Sampsa was off the throttle before half track but nothing was visibly wrong. 1.0524 to sixty for Michael, 1.0086 for Jimmy. Michael hit bad shake, stayed on it as long as he dared, but the car was moving for the centre line and he had to shut it off. 4.3313/264.32 to the eighth for Jimmy, a little wiggle just past half track, but very close indeed to a European speed record. Micke shut off after the burnout, the team had the front end of the car off and made some adjustments then put the front end back on in very short order, from here it looked as if they were expecting to run. Thomas took the bye, storming 0.9927 to sixty, rapid 4.3270/262.77 at the eighth but shut it off about 1000 feet out.

FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 1 (left lane first)

Esko Raisvuo 5.8837/389.89 bye; Peter Schöfer 5.7045/389.33, Chris Polidano 5.4560/433.73; Krister Johansson 5.7259/386.27, Dennis Habermann 5.3958/424.86; Timo Habermann 5.3885/409.40, Dave Wilson 5.3614/428.91

Great baseline for Esko. Rolled straight into stage but took his time composing himself and the starter realised that, gave him a few seconds before running the Tree. 1.0004 to sixty and then the car visibly picked up about 100 feet out. 3.8903/320.09 to the eighth, looked like one cylinder out in the second half but a nice run to open Esko's account. Stopped on the shutdown area and a brief wait for recovery. Peter's first outing this season. Good co-ordination between Chris' and Peter's teams as Chris in the injected-nitro car needed the head start on firing up - I would imagine that that is something which would be easy to get wrong but it was well-handled. Great match between Peter and Chris. Chris away first 0.1141 to 0.1249, looked like a cylinder out momentarily on the left side. Peter had the better sixty 0.9556 to Chris' 0.9902. The alcohol car was really screaming, you could hear it above Chris' fuel motor but the PSR car was moving about its lane whilst Chris went straight as you like. 3.6608/353.40 to sixty for Chris, 3.7456/319.91 for Peter. Peter shut it off at about 1100 feet. Historically not many people leave on Krister but Dennis was visibly out of the hole first 0.1288 to 0.3328. Dennis had the better incrementals all the way, 0.9618 to sixty to Krister's 0.9995, Krister had at least one cylinder out on the right bank all the way down. 3.7827/334.16 to the eighth for Krister to Dennis' 3.5506/346.60, Dennis into #1. Great atch-up between Timo and Grumpy. Timo was quicker to sixty 0.9097 to 0.9468, some vapour from his motor about 300 feet out, 3.5198/341.77 to the eighth to Grumpy's 3.5718/356.67, Grumpy catching up fast at the eighth and overhauled Timo in the second half to take the lead.

Nice match between Rikard and Ian to start with. 0.0591 RT for Rikard, Ian had the better sixty 1.0555 to 1.0983. Ian had his hands full holding on to what was a wayward bike and got off the throttle about 300 feet out, then back on it. 4.3260/286.02 at the eighth. 4.4625/220.23 to the eighth for Rikard but he had shut off by that point, nothing visibly wrong.

1.2657 to sixty for Harri then his motor hesitated and he wound the throttle down in the seocnd half. New PB for Harri though so congratulations to him. 1.4732 to sixty for Anna-Lena, 5.3279/216.69 at the eighth, nice-looking run. First look at Hans Olav's new bike, looks great. Tyre up in smoke at the hit and Hans-Olav shut it off and pulled over to the side at about 300 feet. 1.2562 to sixty for Torbjörn, feathering the throttle as the bike went towards the guardrail, 6.0260/132.09 at the eighth. Kari's motor hesitated big time after the burnout, one crew member and one journalist half-convinced it had stopped, but it kept going. 1.1646 to sixty for Kari then the bike started to head for the left guardrail and he shut it off, really had to pull it away from the rail. 1.1704 to sixty for Janne, 5.0005/221.95 at the eighth, into #1 spot at that point. 1.3571 to sixty for Joachim, 5.0376/252.45 at the eighth, front wheel was up for a fair time. Instant tyre spin and smoke for Greger, shut off and rolled slowly along the track. Very nice burnout from Martijn. 1.3159 to sixty, right foot slipped off the peg, 5.6119/204.24 at the eighth. Motor sounded to be labouring and Martijn shut it off at about 1000 feet. Good launch for roman, 1.253 to sixty feet, motor sounded as if it were running out of grunt towards half tyrack 5.2262/211.43, stayed on the throttle all the way. Huge, long burnout for Per. Great launch, 1.1475 to sixty, but then bike headed for the centre line so he was off the throttle for some time, nailing it again past the eighth when he had got away from the line. Great run for Jan Sturla, 1.1483 to sixty, 4.4746/264.45 at the eighth with some smoke from the motor and the bike heading for the guardrail, Jan Sturla pulled it back though. Tyre up in smoke at the hit for Trond and he shut it off and idled through. 1.1610 to sixty for Samu, some blackstriping, 4.4180/277.63 at the eighth, great run to take #1 spot. Christian got to sixty in 1.2109 but then his rear tyre went up in smoke and he shut it off. Great run for Nate! 1.1365 to sixty, 4.3350/286.32 at the eighth, straight down the middle of his lane and into #1 spot, very close to the European speed record. 1.2391 to sixty for Job, 4.8107/252.57 at the eighth heading for the centre line and shut it off in the second half.

08:30

Good morning and welcome from Tierp Arena for our coverage of the Sweden Internationals brought to you in association with Alamo Rent-A-Car.

Currently overcast here at Tierp but very mild and not even a breeze.

A big good morning to all of the Eurodragsterholics who are sat by their F5 keys. We'll certainly do our best to give you something new to see each time you hit Refresh. Good morning also to everyone tuned in from thsir offices, this includes Gerda Joon who wrote yesterday to say that she was tuned in because she likes to get in trouble with the management.

On the subject of hitting Refresh, we are going to do our best to post after each run during the Pro qualifying sessions. Regular readers will know that this isn't physically possible in all Pro classes but we will do what we can. So keep hitting Refresh whilst the Pros are running and don't wait for us to post the message saying "Keep hitting Refresh!" because putting that into the report and then moving it about takes up valuable seconds.

We are due to start at 09:00 with the first five classes in cycle 6 of Sportsman qualifying. The Pro sessions are due to start at 10:16 and 14:32, how's that for precision?

Stay tuned and we'll bring you all the news as soon as we get going.
