Roger's car sounded to be misfiring in the burnout. Gentle launch, going through gears but the car made a move towards the centre line about 400 feet out and Roger shut it off. Gentle launch also for Jan, of I didn't know better I'd say it was a second gear launch - that's how it sounded. Stopped on the shutdown area and had to be rescued. Jari launched, hit shake and lost drive and something came off the car. Got drive back and cleared the track at the finish line exit. Meanwhile Joakim Backman had been sat in front of Race Control for all of the above runs; we thought that maybe the race officials had instituted a First Alternate system for qualifying, still awaiting his turn as Mattias ran. 1.4532 to sixty for Mattias, driving through shake but then the car moved to the right and took out the eighth-mile reflectors. Brief hold for clean-up. Joakim finally got his turn to fire up but then shut off as he approached the bleach box and was pushed away. Markko took the bye, got to sixty in 1.0699 but then the Vette turned to the right and took out the 330 foot reflector. Norbert's crew rushed to retrieve something from the tow quad before starting the motor... or more accurately attempting to start the motor since it didn't want to know and Norbert was eventually signalled by a race official to give it up and go back to the pits. Finally a pair! Johan at the unsafe end of the ladder likely planning to pull out the big one in this session to make sure of it. 1.0060 to sixty driving through shake, hanging on as the Firebird fishtailed, 4.0698/298.18 at the eighth. Improvement but only good for one place up the ladder. Stefan looked to launch in second, very languid run. 0.9932 to sixty for Mats then the Green Goblin's tyres started to shake big time moving the car towards the centre line and Mats shut it off. 1.1059 to sixty for Tero, car sounded to be lacking in grunt although it stull got into the sixes; no improvement on his previous best. Paired shake for Micke L and Anders. Both gave it one go, Anders' Cuda turned for the guardrail and he shut it off. Micke shut it off about 100 feet out. Shake for Patrik after a sixty of 1.0737, pedalled a couple of times then gave it up. 1.0128 to sixty for Bert-Ove, 4.0030/299.00 to the eighth, straight run and up the ladder a couple of spots. 1.0419 to sixty for Urban, 1.0146 for Tami, think I heard a pedal from Urban, 4.2203 eighth would tend to confirm that something took some time off. 4.0072/298.84 to the eighth for Tami and off the bump spot, probably safe at that point. Great match between Ola and Marc. Ola to sixty in 1.0070 to Marc's 1.0045, paired three-second eighths - not seen that very often - 3.9910/299.50 for Ola to Marc's 3.9930/298.01. Marc one place up the ladder. Good race between Bruno and Jan but no changes in position. 1.0106 to sixty for Bruno, 1.0667 for Jan. No sign of shake for either. 3.9877/298.84 at the eighth for Bruno to Jan's 4.0826/287.39. 1.0465 to sixty for Terje, 1.0600 for Martin. Martin's car started to head to the right and sideswiped the guardrail right on the eighth 4.0612/306.99. 4.0822/295.89 to the eighth for Terje. 1.0136 to sixty for Niclas, hideous shake and the car turned hard right, shut it off about 120 feet out.

FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 4 (left lane first)

Håkan Fällström 5.4807/207.37 bye; Micke Kågered 7.0030/155.53, Patrik Pers 4.1746/475.77; Antti Horto did not start, Jari Halinen 4.3337/368.10 bye; Anita Mäkelä 4.1572/458.02, Urs Erbacher 4.4555/384.62; Risto Poutiainen 6.8206/141.03, Janne Ahonen 4.1079/476.19

0.9190 to sixty for Håkan, smoke from the headers around 100 feet continued until he shut it off about 250 feet out. 2.3772/273.56 at 330 feet, slowing 3.972/241.29 at the eighth. No sign of Chris Andrews in the lanes so the DNQs settled at this point. RT for Patrik of 4.2915, Micke was almost at the eighth before he hit it. 0.9350 to sixty for Micke, tyre shake and shut it off 150 feet or so out. 0.9080 to sixty for Patrik, 3.3484/407.85 at the eighth at which point there was smoke and a fkash of flame from his motor. Track checked and OK, his time good for a move one spot up the ladder. Antti's team then towed him back to the pits, no word why. Jari took the bye, looked like a good one to start with; 0.9066 to sixty, the car started to head for the centre line and Jari clicked it off right on the eighth 3.3832/389.89 and pulled the car away from the line. We're pretty well sealed-in here in Race Control but nitro fumes got in here from Anita and Eurodragster.com sponsor Urs. 0.9027 to sixty for Anita to Urs' strangely slow (relative to Top Fuel) 1.1870. Anita going great guns at 330 feet 2.2859/292.52 to Urs' 2.5709/299.00 and looking good at the eighth too 3.2981/397.94 to Urs' 3.5444/417.63. Just after the eighth there was a bang, smoke and a flash of flame from Urs' motor. Track OK, hopefully nothing serious. 0.9038 to sixty for Risto, 0.8832 for Janne. Risto's tyres went up in smoke, about 150 feet out, the dragster turned to the right and there was a flash of flame from the motor and that was Risto's run done. 2.2889/289.86 at 330 feet for Janne, 3.2841/413.16 at the eighth, puff of smoke and from the dragster's body language it looked from here like the blower belt broke right on the 1000 feet.

  2. Risto Poutiainen 4.0937/469.97

FIA Pro Stock qualifying session 4 (left lane first)

Bo Pettersson no time, Harry Sturhan 7.8687/230.47; Christian Sagelv 6.9109/319.72, Magnus Pettersson 6.9523/321.05; Ulf Wagnhester 6.8390/324.32 DQ, Mats Jacobsson 6.9774/321.05; Michael Malmgren 13.8532/97.23, Sampsa Palos 6.7881/326.09; Thomas Lindström 6.6660/334.26, Richard Sundblom 6.7454/329.27; Micke Callin 6.7655/332.72, Jimmy Ålund 6.6987/332.72

Bo left before the lights ran, the car was moving left and right but nothing compared to Harry's pass. 1.1150 to sixty then the car started to make violent moves. Harry stayed with it but just last half track we saw both sides of the car and he shut it off. Small improvements for both Christian and Magnus. 1.0263 to sixty for Christian, Magnus there in 1.0045 Magnus' car moved to the left then the right but he had it covered. 4.4309 to sixty for Christian and 4.4488 for Magnus. As things stood here Christian was racing tomorrow and Magnus is first alternate. 1.0168 to sixty for Ulf and 1.0446 for Mats; Mats' car was heading for the 660-foot reflector pretty much as soon as he left the line and he tugged it away quite abruptly. 4.4935 at he eighth to Ulf's 4.3964. Ulf's run subsequently DQ'd for weight violation. Michael left the line with the front wheels in the air, 1.0494 shaking like nobody's business, shut ot off just past the tree as he got close to the centre line. 1.0131 to sixty for Sampsa, 4.3662/260.24 at the eighth. Excellent match between Thomas and Nixxon. Stunner at sixty feet for Thomas, 0.9871 to Nixxon's 1.0086, 4.2856/265.88 at the eighth to Nixxon's 4.3390/262.77. Thomas up into #1. Another great pair between Micke and Jimmy to close the session. 1.0134 to sixty for Micke to Jimmy's 0.9902, Jimmy had the better eighth too 4.3099/264.19 to 4.3751/263.67. Some consistent passes in this session makes me wonder whether raceday tune-ups weren't being tested.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Thomas Lindström 6.6660/334.26
  2. Jimmy Ålund 6.6960/334.57
  3. Micke Callin 6.7047/334.78

Chris Polidano 5.7133/420.56, Timo Habermann no time; Krister Johansson 5.7503/402.38, Peter Schöfer 5.3960/418.60; Manty Bugeja 5.7771/410.96, Dennis Habermann 17.364/43.26

Timo's motor cut out a few feet off the line. First thought was blower belt but it I could see it intact on the car as the crew pushed it away. 1.0733 to sixty for Chris, 3.8820/343.07, looked like a couple of cylinders out but he stayed on it all the way. Krister left the line with at least one cylinder out, on the right side. 1.0428 to sixty to Peter's 0.9037 which is really going some. 3.8309/334.78 to the eighth for Krister with the pipe still out on the right side, 3.5231/341.77 for Peter. Improvement but stayed in third. Rapid 0.9316 sixty for Manty, 1.1002 for Dennis with tyres already shaking violently. Dennis pedalled twice then got off the gas. 3.8398/320.67 to the eighth for Manty, we were all surprised by the ET and speed since the run looked a lot quicker - had we paid more attention to the eighth we would have realised that we called that one wrong.

Qualifying after this session:

  1. Manty Bugeja 5.3301/432.69
  2. Dennis Habermann 5.3590/421.55
  3. Peter Schöfer 5.3960/418.60

Jonnie's FC was towed away without an attempt made to start it. No word thus far on the problem. Jonas well on his way back from his burnout before Micke rolled forward for his own burnout. 0.9804 to sixty for Micke to Jonas' 1.0879. Then all eyes on Jonas' FC as it got a serious bounce on and then the motor started to smoke, 4.1188/254.96 at the eighth getting close to the centre line then the blower panel burst and the hood relief panel flew off the car. 3.9809/304.91 to the eighth for Micke, shut off before the stripe but one place up the ladder. Clean-up in Jonas' lane from sixty feet to the eighth. Shakefest for Ulf and Danny, 1.0830 to sixty for Ulf and 1.0100 for Danny, both shaking by then. Ulf off the gas. Danny pedalled and gave it another go, then shut it off and had the chutes out approaching the stripe. Lightnign in the distance as the next pair started up. 0.9595 to sixty for Leif to Arvid's 1.0441, Arvid hit shalke and pedalled a couple of times but had to give it up as the FC went way out of shape. 3.6911/332.10 to the eighth for Leif, consistent run with his #1 number.

Again Ian let Peter go for a second or so before leaving. 1.0912 to sixty for Ian, 1.0112 for Peter. Job finally on the ladder after three torrid sessions. 1.1486 to sixty, a feather of the throttle, 4.5856/264.84 at the eighth. Vesa's bike headed for the centre line and he shut it off. Torbjörn was off the throttle passing the Tree as the bike headed for the centre line. Improvement for Roman good for one spot on the ladder but spectating tomorrow. 1,1739 to sixty for Jan Sturla then smoke and a ball of flame from his motor. Jan Sturla punched the air in frustration. 1.2173 to sixty for Matti improved but watching tomorrow. Nice run for Trond to put himself into the ladder at that point, albeit on the bump spot, 1.2044 to sixty, 4.6878/257.76 at the eighth, from here it looked like his legs were out in the air rather than his feet being on the pegs. Clean-up in Trond's lane. 1.2339 to sixty for Martijn to Greger's 1.1631, Martijn's motor sounded to be labouring and he was off the gas before the stripe. 4.5557 to the eighth for Greger. Christian's tyre went up in smoke at the hit, feathered the throttle and got back on it. Straight clean run for Vidar but both he and Christian spectating tomorrow. 1.1343 to sixty for Hans Olav, 1.2596 for Ismo. Hans Olan's tyre went up in smoke and he had to feather. 4.7515 to sixty for Hans Olav to Ismo's 4.6518. Per was off it by the eighth, 4.4445/292.68 at the eighth for Svein Olav whose motor started to smoke in the second half. Track checked and all OK. Great run for Jaska to take #1 spot. 1.1487 to sixty, slowly heading for the centre line and motor smoking, 4.3178/298.67 at the eighth continuing to smoke through the second half. First half of a new European ET record, well done Jaska! Track OK so bike OK hopefully. Great pair between Nate and Samu, 1.1499 to sixty for Nate to Samu's 1.1409, 4.3602 at the eighth for Nate to Samus's 4.4040, Nate improved but not enough to take back #1.

Comp Eliminator eliminations round 1 winners:

Great driving job by Per Bergström to save his dragster after it turned right in the traps and crossed lanes right next to Emil Eriksson. How he kept it off the right guardrail let alone away from Emil at that speed I couldn't tell you but he kept it upright and got the chute out. Scary view from here but likely worse from where Per was sitting.

John Bradshaw (7.95) 9.8050/128.72 bye; Jan Ericsson (7.52) 6.9972/298.51; Emil Eriksson (7.86) 7.2718/305.95; Andreas Arthursson (7.39) 6.9430/306.30; Odd Erik Fossum (7.45) 6.6532/332.10; Nina Olsson (7.45) 7.6059/235.60; Matti Rajamaki (8.74) 8.7962/242.91 bye (Krister Adeen no show); Micke Lindahl (7.16) 6.8290/342.42 bye (Stefan Gustafsson no show); Kenneth Felthusen (7.25) 21.7019/50.86 bye (Bjørn Johansen no show); Yngve Solberg (7.12) 6.8215/285.26; Stig Olsson (7.66) 7.4604/225.19; Mats Erlandsson (7.16) 7.5465/306.12; Lars-Georg Johansson (8.16) 7.7986/234.68; Mathias Stenström (7.50) no time bye (Lars-Ove Berglund no show)

Huge cloud of smoke from Jan's headers as the motor started, lots of kippers stood around the car after that. Instant shake for Tero and he was off the gas. Great run for Micke L, 1.0140 to sixty, not much sign of shake. 4.0120/297.36 at the eighth, straight as you like, and a couple of places up the ladder. Nice run for Patrik, 1.0277 to sixty to Norbert's 1.0209. Norbert moved up the ladder some but remains outside the top sixteen. Well, you know it's bad when Freddy gets off it - 1.0780 to sixty to Ola's 0.9912, Freddy tried to drive through shake but then got off the throttle. Martin already having set one speed record now looking to back up yesterday's 403.59 / 250.78 mph pass. No dice this time, 1.0521 to sixty already shaking and got off the throttle as the car tried to cross the centre line about 120 feet out. 0.9941 to sixty for Bruno, very straight pass, thundering 3.9503/301.00 at the eighth. Svein Olav's tyre lit up quite nicely when he blipped the throttle to move forward to the bleach box. 1.1883 to sixty for Sveim Olav and 1.2650 for Torbjörn, 4.4001/294.12 to the eight to Torbjörn's 5.7923/159.39, Svein Olav's bike was heading right all the way and took out both 1000 foot and both top end reflectors. 1.2638 to sixty for Trond to Matti's 1.2645, Matti got very close to the centre line and had to feather the throttle. 5.0843 to the eighth for Trond and a feathering 5.5251 for Matti. Straight run for Anna-Lena but no improvement on her previous best. Vesa's bike was not going straight and he feathered the throttle more than once before shutting it off. Martijn's motor was popping and banging after firing up, he shut it off before the burnout. 1.0949 to sixty for Jan Sturla then his rear tyre went up in smoke, he calmly feathered it then got back on it. 4.9095 at the eighth and a time on the board. 1.2201 to sixty for Greger and 1.1967 for Vidar, Greger's bike headed for the rail and he had to feather it then shut it off. 4.7448/262.52 to the eighth for Vidar, great run. 1.3579 to sixty for Roman but then feathered the throttle. 1.2063 to sixty for Hans Olavm the bike fishtailing but he stayed with it, 4.5837/263.80 to the eighth, smoke from one pipe but he stayed on the gas. Nate's crew sprinted to get a can of fuel to fill the tank before Nate could start, one or two words exchanged during that provess. Nate was in pre-stage and was shut off as a fault appeared on the timing system. The quickest turn-round in Supertwin history by Nate's crew as they pished the bike back, refuelled it and reset the idle and restarted within a couple of minutes. Good morning and welcome from Tierp Arena to our coverage of the Scandinavian Internationals brought to you in association with Alamo Rent-A-Car.

Smart TV are webcasting this event in a choice of High or Standard Definition; €10 will buy you three days of racing. For more details check out www.smarttv.se.

We just had a brief sharp shower here but the track crew are already out in force and FHRA have brought their huge jet dryer, an impressive piece of kit which to me appears designed to make a wet track surrender and dry up just at the sight of it. Right now the sun is peeping out and that will help with the track.

Today's running order commences with Sportsman eliminations and then two sessions of Pro qualifying. The plan for the Sportsman classes is to get them down to sixteen for tomorrow.

Again when the Pros qualify we will do our best to update the report after each pair so keep hitting Refresh.

Stay tuned and when we get going we'll be back with all the news.
