Fuel Funny Car exhibition

Gordon Smith no time bye

Fuel car equivalent of a scond gear launch by the sound of things, throttle stop I guess. 0.239 RT came up but no other incrementals. Gordon was off the throttle at about 1000 feet.

Jason Phelps no time bye

Same again from the timing system, 0.185 RT and no other incrementals. Tyres up in smoke at the hit, 200 feet or so of smoke, a pedal, more smoke, and off the throttle.

Give them a short while for a quick tow back to the pits and then you'll be able to watch the teams turn the cars round at www.doyousee.me/mpm.

14:20

The Fuel Funny Cars wil be running very shortly after which the MPM Oil / FGR Motorsport / Marshall / Shockwave team will have ninety minutes to turn round both cars for another run. Don't forget that there is a live pitcast from the MPM Oil pit at www.doyousee.me/mpm so keep one eye on that and watch the teams hard at work from the comfort of your chair.

14:05

Top Methanol Dragster eliminations round 2

Dennis Habermann 6.253/389.77 def. Timo Habermann 7.602/352.35

The VHT thing (I still say it's a magic towel) didn't work for Timo this time as his tyres went up in smoke at the hit. Worked for Dennis though: 1.131 to sixty feet and 4.173/296.56 at the eighth. Timo stayed with it as the tyres smoked but eventually pedalled about 400 feet out. Dennis there first by 1.378.

Peter Schöfer 6.835/365.51 def. Manty Bugeja 7.616/348.23

Smokefest here. Identical 0.138 RTs, Peter first to sixty in 1.176 to Manty's 1.364 with tyres already smoking. Peter's tyres then went up in smoke about 80 feet out. Many stayed on the throttle with tyres blazing, Peter pedalled and the tyres went from smoking to hazing, 4.627 at the eighth to Manty's 5.220. Manty off the throttle before the stripe.

13:45

The organisers have released a statement which confirms what we posted at the start of the day; namely that, Top Methanol Dragster apart, the FIA classes are not racing today. There is a possibility that some FIA racers will make demonstration runs this afternoon.

13:05

UEM Supertwin eliminations round 2

Christian Jäger 6.952/289.41 def. Roman Sixta 10.562/156.15

Nate Gagnon 7.147/313.68 def. Hans Olav Olstad 9.702/185.93

Hans Olav's tyre hazing at the hit then the motor hesitated and a cylinder went out. 1.192 to sixty for Nate, 4.682/262.01 at the eighth, great run.

We're now on a break until 14:00.

12:55

UEM Top Fuel Bike eliminations round 2

Ian King 6.857/337.25 def. Peter Svensson 7.227/285.04 DQ

Peter away first 0.147 to 0.192, a puff of smoke from his tyre. Ian had the better sixty 1.171 to 1.260. Both were going great guns but Ian was visibly pulling ahead by the eighth 4.494/273.35 to Peter's 4.749/269.55. Peter got off the throttle at about 1000 feet as the Starta bike was approaching the centre line and he took out the quarter mile reflector. Fantastic run for Ian.

Nils Lagerlöf 9.846/168.14 Steve Woollatt 7.152/342.03 def.

Nils' tyre went up in smoke and he was off the throttle by about 400 feet as the bike headed for the centre line. Another finely-judged clean run by Steve. 1.357 to sixty feet and 4.836/270.42 at the eighth.

FIA Top Methanol Dragster eliminations round 1

Dennis Habermann 6.347/389.63 bye

#1 quailfier bye for Dennis and lane choice looking critical here as the right lane is clearly the better. Again with the VHT before staging, I still say it's a magic towel job but I have been wrong before. Went a few feet before hitting the throttle. 1.173 to sixty feet, 4.263/293.75 at the eighth.

Timo Habermann 6.660/393.94 def. Chris Polidano 7.734/336.94

VHT for Timo also but still hazed the tyres, 1.163 to sixty whilst Chris' tyres were blazing to a 1.417 sixty. Chris stayed on the throttle to about 400 feet before pedalling but the race was long lost. 4.589/290.26 to sixty for Timo.

Manty Bugeja 6.848/363.43 bye, Krister Johansson no show

No word on what ails Krister. 1.151 to sixty for Manty and then tyres started to haze but he stayed with it. 4.610/272.32 at the eighth, tyres still hazing in the second eighth and a brief pedal at about 1000 feet.

Peter Schöfer 6.237/394.37 bye, Dave Wilson no show

Similarly no word on Grumpy's absence. 1.145 to sixty despite rolling a few feet before hitting the throttle. 4.213/305.61 at the eighth, haze from the tyres just past the eighth and feathered the throttle as the dragster started to fishtail at abotu 1000 feet.

11:45

UEM Top Fuel Bike eliminations round 1

Peter Svensson 9.705/188.43 bye, Rene van den Berg shut off

Rene shut off for a fluid leak before staging. Peter tok the bye, rear tyre smoked at the hit. 1.247 to sixty feet, long feather of the throttle then more smoke, faethered the throttle again and shut it off just past the eighth.

Ian King 7.118/324.02 def. Kai Selkämaa 7.092/329.53

Ian away first 0.179 to 0.237 and the better sixty 1.165 to 1.230. Kai's tyre was up in smoke by sixty feet as Ian's bike ran clean, suddenly Ian's tyre started to smoke about 400 feet out and the bike started to move to the right. Ian feathered the throttle and got back on it, stayed just far enough ahead to take the win.

Steve Woollatt 7.071/327.20 def. Rikard Gustafsson 9.079/292.29

Contrary to expectation it was the Nitrous bike's tyre which went up in smoke at the hit, not a hint of smoke from Steve's Top Fuel Bike whilst Rikard was feathering the throttle. 1.315 to sixty for Steve, 4.752/273.21 at the eighth, very finely-judged.

Nils Lagerlöf 7.228/318.42 def. Otto Knebl 15.002/83.38

Otto's tyre up in smoke at the hit and he shut it off. Clean launch for Nils, 1.245 to sixty and 4.757/255.81 at the eighth.

11:35

UEM Supertwin eliminations round 1

Roman Sixta 8.333/272.83 def. Samu Kemppainen 8.486/283.96

Roman away first 0.280 to 0.254 but his tyre started to smoke, 1.506 to sixty to Samu's 1.365. As ROman's tyre stopped smoking, Samu's tyre started to smoke and Roman got past him again , 5.618/238.04 at the eighth to 5.640/216.97.

Christian Jäger 7.333/285.83 def. Ismo Mänpaa no time DQ

0.016 RT for Ismo but tyre straight up in smoke, 1.535 to sixty to Christian's 1.179. Ismo stayed with it even though his tyre was blazing and eventually crossed the centre line just past the eighth. Clean run all the way for Christian.

Nate Gagnon 7.015/336.89 def. Matti Vahasaari no time

Tiniest of burnouts for Matti which bit him at the hit as the front wheel came up briefly but then the tyre went up in smoke. Matti's motor stopped 300 feet out and he rolled quietly to the end of the track. 1.211 to sixty for Nate, 4.679/267.72 at the eighth, and Low ET of the event for Supertwin.

Hans Olav Olstad 8.107/238.67 def. Job Heezen 8.220/308.21

1.264 to sixty for Hans Olav to Job's 1.280, both tyres up in smoke by then. Job stayed on the throttle and smoked the quarter whilst Hans Olav feathered the throttle near the eighth and then his tyre hooked up.

Kalle Lyrén 7.430/293.67 bye, Martin Bishop did not start

Martin's motor would not start so Kalle took the bye. 1.224 to sixty, 4.777/243.15 at the eighth.

Gert-Jan Laseur 7.539/265.76 def. Ulf Ögge 7.349/299.29

0.070 to 0.270 holeshot won this one for Gert-Jan by 0.104. All of Ulf's incrementals were better but the 0.2 head start was too much.

Good morning and welcome from the Hockenheimring for our coverage of the 2012 NitrOlympX brought to you in association with Alamo Rent-A-Car.

No webcam from us this weekend; the PPV Web TV will be running today and you can find a link to the sign-up on the Event Index. Our usual streaming service provider Doyousee.me are however streaming live from the MPM Oil Fuel FC and Junior Dragster pit. You can find the pitcast at www.doyousee.me/mpm.

Yesterday's gallery has as promised been augmented with pictures from the Night Show. You can check those out via the Event Index page; there are now 170 pictures so if you don't see all 170 thumbnails then click on your Browser's Refresh button.

It's another very nice day here at Hockenheim, sunny and warm.

The traditional Racday Good Morning to our US Correspondents Ed O'Connell and Kathy Hileman who are tuned in from Rye, NH. Hope you are enjoying the coverage and having a good weekend guys. Hello and hugs to Paula Marshall who is tuned in from the UK and Good Morning to Ivar Kolberg, Herb Andrews, John Andrews and 'Mr Cambodia' who tell us that they are enjoying the coverage. Thanks very much guys, that means a lot especially on what has been a very stressful weekend.

Slightly confused situation here. Some Sportsman, UEM and FIA classes were called to the lanes but the FIA call has just been retracted. The FIA racers, whose classes are in the running order for today, are holding a meeting at this moment and as soon as we hear any facts we will let you know.

We are due to start with Comp Eliminator and then round one of Pro Stock Bike. We should be able to include some incrementals in our reports today although they may be academic in some classes. Stay tuned and when the first motors fire up we'll be back with you.
