Mats away first 0.0770 to 0.1610, the better sixty foot time 1.0309 to 1.0749, Norbert tried to drive through shake reflected in his 4.4799 at half track to Mats' 4.0179, the Green Goblin made a hard move to the left in the second eighth but Mats stayed with it as Norbert shut off.

FIM/UEM Supertwin eliminations round 2

Lorenz Stäuble 4.41200/277.47 bye, Matti Vahasaari no show

Perhaps no surprise that we didn't see Matti after his problem last round. Tremendous 0.0709 RT for Lo, 1.1570 to sixty feet, front wheel aloft all the way to the eighth speed trap where it thumped down with a puff of smoke.

Per Bengtsson 4.5418/273.46 def. Samu Kemppainen 4.9681

Samu away first 0.1179 to 0.1690 but Per was gaining by sixty feet 1.2109 to 1.2512 and took the stripe by 0.3752.

Lightning 0.0901 RT from Rikard to Peter's 0.1411, Peter had the better sixty foot 1.0769 to 1.1217, both bikes running hard and Peter past Rikard but then it looked like a drive belt broke on Peter's bike, thumping the front of the bike down unceremoniously and Peter's race was done.

Ian away first by a big 0.0818 to 0.1879, Sverre had the better sixty foot time 1.0742 to 1.1300, looked very close from here, no visible problem for Ian so just plain out-run.

14:00

FIA Top Methanol Funny Car eliminations round 2

Ulf Leanders 5.8719/390.93 bye

A lane choice run for Ulf I think, 0.9657 to sixty feet, slight feather of the throttle and the last gear change sounded a touch late, 3.8538/312.07 at the eighth.

Dan Larsen 7.3722/288.37 def. Jarmo Kuutniemi no time

Jarmo away first 0.1200 to 0.1278, Dan's tyres up in smoke at the hit but he wasn't getting all the way off for anything, likely staying on the throttle because he couldn't see Jarmo whose motor cut out by the Tree. Dan's FC was weaving left and right, tyres smoking the length of the lane, the tyre marks look like a lot of waves on the sea, either that or Dan was trying to write his name on the track. 4.7363/240.55 at half track and into the final against Ulf who of course has lane choice. Clunking noises from Jarmo's rear end as the car was towed off.

13:45

Andy away first 0.1159 to 0.1159, absolutely storming 0.8409 sixty for Andy to Lex's 0.8558, one of the quickest ever sixty foot times in Europe. 3.2500/383.21 at the eighth for Andy to Lex's 3.2790/369.19, Lex's tyres started to haze in the eighth mile trap and you could see him losing speed, Andy's tyres started to haze at about 700 feet but he was well in front and took the stripe.

Patrick Wikström 6.1360/371.55 def. Micke Lindahl 6.2407/368.00

At the first attempt at this race the Tree was flashing red lights as Per and Greger went to stage, David of the Tech Crew rushed to the start line to have a prod at the starter's handset but the Tree continued to flash red so starter Nettan signalled the bikes to shut off. Leif out with engine damage so Dan took a bye, a dial-in of 6.0 on the side of the car. Dan's wife Joan told us last night that Dan was a bit despondent about the constant 6.0s and was talking about taking up golf instead. Well, whatever was ailing Dan he has found it, a great pass and the team very happy. 0.9670 to sixty feet and 3.8611/308.09 to half track.

Jarmo Kuutniemi 5.9410/391.33 def. Danny Bellio 7.8312/250.56

Esko pedalled and tried again but it just turned into a second burnout and he shut off. 0.9831 to sixty feet for Grumpy but from then on the car sounded very lazy, as if it were not on full throttle. 3.8001/330.61 at half track and maybe a bullet dodged for Grumpy although 5.6821 is not exactly slow.

Krister Johansson 5.4338/426.35 def. Paul Ingar Udtian 5.5059/414.11

Storming 0.0681 RT for Krister, 0.1440 for Paul Ingar even with deep stage, Paul Ingar had the better sixty foot time 0.9519 to 0.9721, and the better eighth 3.6070 to 3.6170 but Krister's was ahead and his dragster just kept on accelerating and got there first by 0.1480.

Peter Schöfer 5.4683/420.68 def. Rob Turner 5.6557/391.88

That new back end on Peter's car is really doing the business, no sign of shake at all. Rob away first 0.1002 to 0.1228, very slightly quicker sixty foot 0.9287 to Peter's 0.9291, Peter was getting ahead at the eighth 3.5861/335.55 to 3.6628/319.27 and was visibly pulling away, first to the stripe by 0.1648.

Timo Habermann 5.4371/409.29 def. Dennis Habermann 5.4372/415.99

The brothers faced off in eliminations at Alastaro and here we are again with the brothers facing off at Mantorp Park. Timo away first 0.0309 to 0.1038, Dennis had the better sixty foot 0.9011 to 0.9122, Dennis better at half track 3.5482 to 3.5509, Timo's dragster made a move in the second half but he had it covered.

FIA Top Fuel Dragster eliminations round 1

Urs Erbacher 4.1312/455.67 def. Stig Neergaard 4.2642/371.34 DQ

-0.3341 red light for Stig but it didn't have the feel of an attempt to jump the start, sounded more like he just touched the throttle briefly as if blipping it, either way the big red light lit and that was that for Stig's weekend. Urs actually left early when he heard Stig, -0.1852 RT, but he was already the winner. 0.8812 to sixty feet, 3.2960/396.36 at the eighth.

Andy Carter 4.1250/421.51 def. Anita Mäkelä 4.2261/376.93

Andy asked us to say a big Hello to all the Carters tuned in from Texas. Andy away first 0.1068 to 0.1179, 0.8532 sixty foot time to Anita's 0.8930, 3.2352/385.05 at half track for Andy to Anita's 3.3160 at a big 402.76, Andy's tyres started to haze past the eighth but Anita's blower belt flew off the car at about 700 feet and that made sure of it for Andy.

Risto Poutiainen 4.0811/454.90 def. Micke Kågered 4.2760/415.94

Risto on fire this weekend, figuratively not literally. 0.0969 RT to Micke's 0.1651, 0.8609 to sixty feet to Micke's 0.8987, 3.2610 at another 402.76 at the eighth for Risto to Micke's 3.4087/387.42. Micke's dragster disappeared in a huge cloud of smoke right on the finish line but we could see enough that Risto had got there first by 0.0682.

Lex Joon 4.1890/411.80 bye, Linda Thun Tønseth shut off

Pops and bangs from Linda's motor as she returned from the burnout, Lex waiting patiently but Gerda not looking amused, Linda's crew crowded round and did a lot of work in a short time but eventually Rune Fjeld shut Linda off and Lex took the single. 0.8761 to sixty feet, 3.2981/385.46 at the eighth, tyres hazing just past the eighth and the blower belt off the car right on the stripe. The problem with Linda's car turned out to be a broken clutch, I quote, "The pedal was on the floor".

Norbert laid one on Andy at he line 0.0140 to 0.1039, 1.0749 to sixty feet for Andy to Norbert's 1.0708, Andy hit shake and the Stude went right, just the same as Adam in the previous pair. Andy pedalled and hit it again and the Stude's front wheels came up and then the rear tyres picked up, but it was too late to chase down the Avenger. 0.4950 at the stripe.

Mats Eriksson 6.1228/375.43 def. Niclas Andersson 6.2649/351.43

Niclas away first 0.0819 to 0.0219, 0.9939 to sixty feet to Mats' 1.0219, Mats looked to drive through a tiny amount of shake but was coming back by half track 4.0129 to 4.0370 and Mats there first by 0.1249. First left lane win this session.

Micke Gullqvist 6.2571/361.65 def. Johan Lindberg 6.5520/343.50

Johan in as an alternate for Mattias Wulcan. Visible holeshot for Johan 0.1490 to 0.2639, but when the first incrementals came in Micke was fighting back. 1.0211 to sixty feet to Johan's 1.0448, much better half track 4.0751/287.39 to 4.2318/274.44, and first to the stripe by 0.1800.

Patrick Wikström 6.1782/372.95 def. Marc Meihuizen 6.3060/367.24

Marc in as an alternate for Marco Maurischat. This one was all Patrick, 0.1578 RT to 0.4830, that was daylight, 1.0222 sixty foot to 1.0209, 4.0562/295.66 at the eighth to 4.1370/287.49, and first at the stripe by 0.4530.

Micke Lindahl 6.2013/371.04 def. Bruno Bader 6.2423/359.51

Freddy Fagerström 6.1629/365.83 def. Graham Ellis 6.8982/349.51 DQ

Graham's crew all wearing Fast Freddy T-Shirts, nice psychology. This one ended on the line with a -0.2292 red light from Graham but he would have been hard put to keep up with Freddy, 0.9867 to sixty feet and 4.0119/292.04 at the stripe.

08:40

Good morning and welcome from Mantorp Park. It's race day at the Veidec Festival and we're here to bring you all the news in association with American Car Imports.

The Webster Race Engineering/Lex Joon Racing USA Tour 2009 webcam is on-line and is scheduled to post a picture every sixty seconds so long as the track is open.

It rained overnight but we don't mind that because it washes the track. It's now a nice day here, the sun is out and the track crew are adding the final touches.

The traditional Raceday Hello to Eurodragster.com correspondents Ed O'Connell and Kathy Hileman who are tuned in from Rye, NH. Ed has I think several bruises on his legs from kicking himself for not coming here to Mantorp Park. You are much missed here guys. A big Hello also to regular correspondent Ivar Kolberg who couldn't make it here this weekend, to Hobbe who is I think somewhere in India right now, and to Stephen Moon who sent just the right E-Mail at just the right time the other day. Hope you are all enjoying the coverage guys.

A big Thank You to Ulf and Jörgen Leanders and Lena Perés for plying us with pizza and cream cake respectively last night. The Saturday of the Veidec Festival is always a hard one for us since it's such a long day and fitting in food is difficult, so we were and are very grateful indeed for the generous gestures.

Today's plan is for the pre-race presentation and National Anthem at 09:00 and then into the first round of Pro eliminations at 09:30. As ever the first Pro session is topped and tailed by FIA NDRS Bilsport Pro Modified. Stay tuned and as soon as there are results to give you we will be right back.
