FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Krister Johansson 7.5876/323.46, Dave Wilson no time, Peter Schöfer 5.5100/413.40, Timo Habermann 5.5409/409.54,

0.9781 to sixty feet for Grumpy whilst Krister's engine had cylinders out, 1.2369 to sixty feet, 4.0660/277.53 to sixty feet for Grumpy with his rear tyres starting to haze and then they blazed and Grumpy got off the throttle. An ET of 0.9111 came up in Grumpy's lane - he's good, but not that good. A nice match between Peter and Timo, 0.0410 reaction for Peter, Timo had the quicker sixty foot time 0.9181 to 0.9211, Peter was quicker at half track 3.6079/332.14 to Timo's 3.6120/326.11 and there first by 0.1079 seconds.

FIA Top Methanol Funny Car qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Ulf Leanders 6.3941/267.10, Danny Bellio 8.8834/151.38, Arvid Grødem 7.5502/261.46, Jarmo Kuutniemi 6.3632/330.21, Dan Larsen 6.0712/378.90, Leif Andréasson 5.8250/398.13

Wild rides for both cars with the Leanders Brothers' FC bouncing all over the shop and making a couple of hard moves left and right, meanwhile Danny's Avenger hit violent shake and sideswiped the guardrail. Danny is quite OK. Arvid's tyres went up in smoke at the hit , 1.2090 to sixty feet whilst Jarmo stuck to the track to sixty feet, 0.9880 seconds. 4.1231/284.00 at half track for Jarmo whilst Arvid was still fighting shake and got off the throttle. Jarmo moved up the standings, Arvid stayed in place. Leif Andréasson put in a great pass to take #1 spot, 0.9670 to sixty feet and 3.8319/313.57 at half track, 0.9952 for Dan and 3.9932/299.02 at half track. Dan improved but stayed in place.

FIA NDRS Bilsport Pro Modified qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Robert Joosten 6.3258/360.28 bye, Marko Lantto 6.7899/308.23, Terje Håkonsen 7.6760/324.90, Andy Robinson 6.9161/278.24, Micke Gullquist 6.3887/358.65 , Jari Parén 7.7891/263.14, Niclas Andersson 6.2380/356.62, Kristian Nyström 6.4829/351.47, Jan Gunnarsson 12.7902/85.89, Ingo Rolla 8.2490/268.33, Mats Eriksson 6.2069/377.36, Norbert Kuno 6.6748/351.89, Marc Meihuizen 6.2839/365.50, Johan Lindberg 6.7280/338.50, Micke Nord 6.6598/343.15, Jan-Egil Kvalvik 7.9753/197.83 bye, Urban Johansson 6.3002/367.22, Bruno Bader 6.4551/351.45, Freddy Fagerström 7.7501/214.82, Micke Lindahl 6.4981/358.48, Jonny Jorgensen 7.2471/306.84, Roger Johansson 6.3361/360.42

A superb pass from Robert to open his account for the Veidec Festival. 1.0590 to sixty feet, 4.1298/285.16 to the eighth and into #2 spot at that point. Driving job of the day for Marko Lantto as he drove through shake and then his Vette started to move left and right and then made a violent move. Marko did exactly the right thing and put the chutes out which straightened the car out. Terje hit shake and pedalled, but he lost a lot of time to it and then his engine zinged. Micke visibly away first in his match-up with Andy, 0.1962 to 0.4381, Andy hit shake and pedalled and had the car up on three wheels when he hit the throttle again. A puff of smoke from Andy's car at the top end whilst Micke stuck to the track and moved up into #3 spot at that point. Niclas left the line like a shot from a gun, 0.0760 reaction, 1.0241 to sixty feet. 1.2241 to sixty for Jari, Niclas at half track in 4.0598/289.91 and into #1 spot at that point. An improvement for Jari and he moved up a couple of spots but not enough to get him into the top sixteen. A nice pass for Kristian moving him right up the field, 1.0642 to sixty feet and 4.2231/277.41 at half track, no improvement for Jan as he pedalled a couple of times then got off it. The next pairing was all Mats Eriksson, 0.0950 reaction, 1.0360 sixty foot time, 4.0919/293.30 to half track and into number one spot with the first half of a European speed record (234.48 mph in real money), a new Personal Best, and a new track ET record, well done Mats! The Green Goblin just nosed about a metre into the kitty litter at the end of the track. Ingo improved very slightly and moved up a place, still getting a feel for the very tidy Avenger.

Ingo's team-mate Norbert up next alongside Marc, Norbert away first 0.1679 to 0.1711, Marc had the better sixty foot time 1.0900 to Norbert's 1.1819, and Marc was well ahead at half track 4.1300/290.60 to 4.4291/275.53. Marc moved up to #4 and Norbert moved up the field also. Moves up the field for Johan and Micke N, we now have an all six-second Pro Mod field but I think the bump spot will drop some more yet! Jan-Egil clocked 1.0392 to sixty feet but was off it before the eighth. Vette v Vette next and it was a great pairing, very similar sixty foot times of 1.0412 for Urban to Bruno's 1.0441 and not much between them at the eighth, 4.1421 for Urban to 4.1872 for Bruno, Bruno appeared to back off just a touch early. A big move up the standings for Urban whilst Bruno stayed where he was. Micke L and Freddy both tried to drive through shake, Micke succeeded and only lost a little time whilst Freddy naturally tried everything until the car made a big move to the right and he got off the pedal. Roger into the top sixteen with a storming pass for the nitrous Mustang, looked very easy too, 1.0331 at sixty feet and 4.1430/287.43 at the eighth. Jonny picked up a few places but is outside of the top sixteen right now.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Mats Eriksson 6.2069/377.36
  2. Niclas Andersson 6.2380/356.62
  3. Micke Lindahl 6.2670/365.85

15:30

FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Håkan Fällström 5.6031/206.96 bye, Jöran Persåker shut off (bye), Lex Joon 4.8258/310.95, Stig Neergaard 6.6649/166.12, Andy Carter 9.0409/122.56 bye, Micke Kågered shut off, Jari Halinen 4.6279/421.34, Urs Erbacher 4.4221/415.89, Tommi Haapanen 4.3221/425.95, Monica Öberg 4.5031/416.04, Jöran Persåker 4.3020/429.00 bye

Håkan left the line with a couple of cylinders out on the left side. 0.9239 to sixty feet and from here it looked as if cylinders went out on the right side too and you feared what might be coming and it did, a bang and a ball of flame and the blower belt came off, Håkan had the chutes out at about the eighth. Jöran's engine was idling very high again but he had no problem selecting forward and reverse this time. Jöran was held on the line as the Tree's call-up light was not lit and eventually he was signalled to shut off.

Lex and Stig next up, 0.8951 to sixty feet for Lex, 1.1222 for Stig so I am guessing shake for Stig. Lex got to the eighth this time before his tyres started to smoke and boy did they blaze, you couldn't see the MPM Oil car nor Stig's in the other lane for the smoke. Lex, out of the standings at that point, wasn't getting off it for anything and he moved up a couple of places but is still not qualified. Micke shut off before staging so Andy took the bye, 0.0969 reaction time which for a Top Fueller is very good indeed. 0.9910 to sixty feet but by that time his rear tyres were already up in smoke and he was off the throttle before about eighty feet and idled through. Jari away first 0.2349 to Urs' 0.3259, Urs had the much better sixty foot time 0.8741 to Jari's 0.9401. Urs' tyres hazed before the eighth (3.4931/347.67) and from here it looked as if he pedalled, but his ET was good enough to move him up to #2 spot at that point. A great pass between Tommi and Monica, Tommi away first with a great 0.0970 to Monica's 0.1569, 0.8928 to sixty feet to Monica's 0.9632. Tommi was at half track in 3.4330/372.99 to Monica's 3.5980/358.97, both cars looked to have cylinders out as they got to the start of the uphill part of the strip. Tommi got there first by 0.0599 seconds, less than one car length. Jöran came back for his run and it was a great pass, 0.8870 to sixty feet and 3.4160/375.33 at half track with fuel spraying into the air above the injector.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Tommi Haapanen 4.1429/458.44
  2. Jöran Persåker 4.3020/429.00
  3. Urs Erbacher 4.4221/415.89
  4. Monica Öberg 4.4820/404.62
  5. Jari Halinen 4.5169/411.36

  10. Lex Joon 4.8258/310.95
  11. Håkan Fällström 5.6031/206.96
  12. Stig Neergaard 6.6649/166.12

14:55

FIA Pro Stock qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Adam Flamholc 7.1840/313.67, Christer Wiklund 7.5779/292.50, Jan Palmqvist 7.0359/316.44, Michael Malmgren 6.8871/324.69, Peter Dahlin 7.1258/310.93, Jonas Dantanus 7.2671/202.91, Richard Sundblom 8.9819/165.36, Tommy Leindahl 7.2232/306.68, Kenneth Söderström 7.1409/313.78 bye, Micke Callin 6.9490/320.35 bye, Jimmy Ålund 6.9591/321.79, Magnus Hansson 7.0022/318.93

A big improvement and move up the standings for Adam, 1.0321 to sixty feet and 4.6108/238.29 to half track and more to come since Adam took a long way round. 1.1100 to sixty feet for Christer and 4.8579/232.87 at half track, making up a place in the standings. Big improvements for both Michael and Jan in the next pairing, Michael in particular launching as if shot from a gun, 1.0211 to sixty feet and 4.4333/255.74 at half track. 1.0428 to sixty feet for Jan and 4.5139/249.65 at half track and into the top eight too. Peter made up a place, 1.0548 to sixty feet and 4.5689/246.25 at half track whilst Jonas improved but stayed in place, 1.0669 to sixty feet and 4.6701/241.38 at the eighth. 1.0501 to sixty feet for Richard but he hit shake and the car was moving around so he shut off before half track. Tommy got to sixty feet in 1.0332 and half track in 4.5860/228.53, looked to back off a touch early. A cloud of dust from the top end and a shout on the radio indicated a car in the kitty litter at the end of the track, hopefully Tommy Lindahl hasn't scraped too much of that nice paintwork.

Kenneth first up on the re-start, from here it sounded as if he ran out of gears in the second half. 1.0459 to sixty feet and 4.5881/243.58 at half track, no improvement so he stayed where he was. Micke next up, two goes at the burnout but the second one was worth waiting for. A consistent pass, staying in fourth for now, 1.0280 to sixty feet and 4.4721/253.33 at half track. Not often that anyone gets the jump on Jimmy off the line but Magnus managed it, 0.0719 to Jimmy's 0.1710, Magnus had the better sixty foot time too 1.0241 to 1.0460, Jimmy quicker at half track 4.4901/253.99 to 4.5030/250.60.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Jimmy Ålund 6.8538/324.82

FIM/UEM Top Fuel Bike qualifying session 2(left lane first):

Magnus Larsson shut off , Sverre Dahl 4.3959/283.99, Kai Selkämaa 4.6480/211.11, Peter Andersson Ström 4.7501/213.02, Peter Eriksson 5.1117/233.72, Michal Ponca 7.3171/147.22, Marc Weber 10.1001/156.51, Rickard Gustafsson 4.2513/281.75, Ian King 4.7087/267.36 bye, Patrik Borgh shut off, Eric Teboul 4.2811/288.37, Otto Knebl 5.2999/215.77, Peter Svensson 4.0809/303.10, Mikael Andersson 4.7789/243.72

Magnus shut off before staging, Sverre took a great bye. 1.1770 to sixty feet and into #4 spot at that point. Kai really turned it on for this pass, that guy does not look like a TFB rookie, 1.0961 to sixty feet and into the top eight. A nice pass for Peter and a good baseline for tomorrow's two sessions. An improvement for Peter moved him into the top eight and on the bump spot at that point. A stormer for Rikard, into #2 spot above a lot of Top Fuel Bikes and the ET would have been quicker had his front wheel been on the deck at the stripe. Patrik had three goes at a burnout but couldn't get the tyre to spin so he shut off. Ian took the bye, sounded quite lazy off the line but 1.2188 to sixty feet and it sounded as if the motor was misfiring. Great to see Eric Teboul back after his whoopsie earlier - on that run his first incremental was quicker than Peter Svensson's so much was promised. A nice pass this time, 1.3379 to sixty feet and an improvement on his earlier ET although he stayed in #3 spot at that point. Peter on a couple of European records as he went into stage, and he didn't disappoint, the 4.0809 too quick for a record, yet, but backed up his earlier 4.130 and the earlier 296.58 backed up by the too-fast 303.10. An improvement for Mikael too but he stayed in place.

  1. Peter Svensson 4.0809/303.10
  2. Rikard Gustafsson 4.2513/281.75
  3. Eric Teboul 4.2811/288.37
  4. Ian King 4.3839/284.83
  5. Sverre Dahl 4.3959/283.99
  6. Kai Selkämaa 4.6480/211.11
  7. Peter Andersson Ström 4.7501/213.02
  8. Mikael Andersson 4.7789/243.72
  9. Peter Eriksson 5.1117/233.72
  10. Marc Weber 5.1968/220.95
  11. Otto Knebl 5.3131/216.94
  12. Patrick Borgh 5.6077/216.22
  13. Michal Ponca 6.1377/177.56

14:10

FIM/UEM Supertwin qualifying session 2(left lane first):

Harri Piensalmi 5.4631/207.57 bye, Hans Olav Olstad 5.5522/145.06, Gunther Sohn 7.4599/100.89, Tommy Möller 4.8531/254.24, Lorenz Stäuble 4.5672/268.97, Job Heezen 4.4979/272.48, Erik Frank 5.4979/210.39, Per Bengtsson 4.5880/268.37, Svein Olav Rolfstad 4.4189/268.41

First run of the weekend for Harri. A pretty good run, 1.3541 to sixty feet and his bike looks just great, not seen it before to my knowledge. Gunther hit shake and got off the throttle as his bike drifted towards the guardrail, Hans Olav's engine banged with a puff of smoke at about 300 feet, his ET improved slightly but he stayed in place. A great match-up between Tommy and Lorenz, Lo away first 0.1369 to 0.3498, his front wheel high in the air and the bike fishtailing, there was a big cloud of smoke as the front touched down. Tommy's bike went straight as you like and his crew were very happy with that one, 1.2792 to sixty feet and into the top eight. A great run for Job Heezen, 1.1851 to sixty feet and into #2 spot, Job's crew including Ton Pels and Roel Koedam looked delighted as well they might. Erik's bike was fishtailing but he held onto it. A great pairing between Per and Svein Olav, the bikes more or less side-by-side with front wheels hanging in the air. Svein Olav improved his ET to consolidate his #1 spot.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Svein Olav Rolfstad 4.4189/268.41
  2. Job Heezen 4.4979/272.48
  3. Per Bengtsson 4.5299/249.66
  4. Lorenz Stäuble 4.5672/268.97

  7. Harri Piensalmi 5.4631/207.57 bye
  8. Hans Olav Olstad 5.5522/145.06
  9. Gunther Sohn 7.2609/104.20
  10. Anders Karling 13.4470/46.69

FIM/UEM Pro Stock Bike qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Stavros Svrachnos no time bye, Bousinis Haralambo 7.7470/274.53, Chris Hope 7.6520/276.38, Gabriella Nikokovska 9.2390/242.87, Kenneth Wik 7.5631/281.68, Richard Gipp 7.8541/238.17, Martin Bishop 7.4780/287.47, Ulf Ögge 7.4019/295.53, Fredrik Fredlund 7.3521/291.72

Stavros still without a time. 1.3397 to sixty feet and then the bike moved to the left and Stavros took out all four of the eighth-mile and 990 foot reflector sets. Nice passes by Bousinis and Chris, Chris pulled a 0.0080 reaction time and moved up in to #4 spot at that point. Some concern around Gabbi's bike after the burnout, Kenneth waited patiently and then was long gone whilst Gabbi pulled a 5.3630 reaction. A big improvement for Kenneth moved him up the standings, Gabbi stayed in place. An improvement for Martin consolidated his #1 spot at that point and he pulled a nice 0.0909 reaction. Fredrik cemented his #1 spot with a great run and Ulf moved up to #2.

13:00

FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Dave Wilson 6.7931/227.08, Krister Johansson no time, Paul Ingar Udtian 5.6711/402.38, Rob Turner 5.4590/414.11, Timo Habermann 5.6720/395.67, Peter Schöfer 8.3269/155.08

A mouth-watering first match between the multiple Champion but nitro newbie and Europe's longest-standing injected nitro exponent. Grumpy away first 0.1540 to 0.1598, a great sixty foot time of 0.9759, the car looked to be on a stormer until Grumpy got off the throttle around half track (3.8578/273.41). Krister's engine laboured to sixty feet and he was off the throttle very quickly, an ET of 0.4470 came up in his lane. A tremendous pass between Paul and Rob, 0.0609 reaction for Paul Ingar and then it was all Rob, 0.9060 to sixty feet to Paul Ingar's 0.9610, 3.5588/332.57 to half track to Paul Ingar's 3.7913/324.62, 0.1341 in it at the stripe and #1 spot and we believe a Personal Best for Rob, well done Rob! Paul Ingar went into the gravel trap at the end of the shutdown area and out the other side into the field and word is that the car rolled once. Paul is quite OK. The timing slip I have here has 990-foot times and speeds, so for a comparison with Top Fuel Rob got to 990 feet in 4.5561/383.33 and Paul 4.7432/371.04.

Paul's dragster recovered, Timo and Peter matched up. The usual meteoric reaction time from Timo, 0.0659 - where does he get them all from? Peter had a storming sixty foot time of 0.9381 to Timo's 0.9701 but from here it sounded as if Peter's motor was labouring and he was off the throttle before half track. Timo got to the eighth in 3.7158/325.00 and 990 feet in 4.7408/370.07, slotting in to #3 behind Paul Ingar.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Rob Turner 5.4590/414.11
  2. Paul Ingar Udtian 5.6711/402.38
  3. Timo Habermann 5.6720/395.67
  4. Dave Wilson 6.7931/227.08
  5. Peter Schöfer 8.3269/155.08

FIA Top Methanol Funny Car qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Jonas Staflund 5.9833/369.62, Jürgen Nagel 6.2793/363.39, Danny Bellio shut off, Arvid Grødem 6.2338/383.33, Leif Andréasson 6.6220/248.05, Dan Larsen 6.2132/333.32, Jarmo Kuutniemi 6.6509/272.18, Ulf Leanders 14.4249/99.72

A great pass for Jonas and I think his quickest in a while, 1.0581 to sixty feet and 3.9313/310.63 at half track. A good baseline for Jürgen, 1.0764 to sixty feet and 4.1390/293.66 at half track. Next up, two of the nicest guys you could hope to meet and both coming here on the back of Personal Bests at Alastaro. Danny shut off on the way back from his burnout so Arvid took the bye. 1.0021 to sixty feet and then a pedal for shake which must have been worth a third or a half of a second on the ET, 4.1140/284.05 at half track. A pair of strong-looking passes to begin with for Leif and Dan, Leif hit 1.0000 at sixty feet and Dan 1.0029, Leif's Stratus started to bounce around and I'd swear that he had all four wheels off the ground and from here he looked to get off the throttle. Dan looked to drive through shake and went into #2 spot at that point. Ulf is racing this weekend with the name of the Barncancer Fonden (Childrens' Cancer Foundation) on the car. Ulf went into deep stage and then his tyres went up in smoke at the hit, Jarmo looked to be on a pretty good run, 1.0300 to sixty feet and 4.1210/277.39 at half track but was off the throttle early.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Jonas Staflund 5.9833/369.62
  2. Dan Larsen 6.2132/333.32
  3. Arvid Grødem 6.2338/383.33
  4. Jürgen Nagel 6.2793/363.39
  5. Leif Andréasson 6.6220/248.05

FIA NDRS Bilsport Pro Modified qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Jan-Egil Kvalvik 6.4910/346.74, Johan Lindberg 7.1141/330.43, Jan Gunnarsson 10.7811/108.55, Jonny Jorgensen 8.4089/242.10, Niclas Andersson 13.0811/92.83, Ingo Rolla 8.6328/215.64, Peter Ritscher 9.3559/188.17, Norbert Kuno 7.2429/314.91, Terje Håkonsen no time, Jari Parén 10.3530/132.68, Micke Nord shut off, Kristian Nyström 9.5670/144.56 bye, Micke Gullquist 9.8010/163.09, Andy Robinson 10.9058/129.77, Mats Eriksson 9.0101/160.54, Freddy Fagerström 6.6720/358.37, Roger Johansson 7.7330/245.36, Urban Johansson 6.7180/349.58, Bruno Bader 6.4489/346.74 bye, Marc Meihuizen 6.9399/236.62 bye, Micke Lindahl 6.2670/365.85, Patrick Wikström 6.9430/329.40, Micke Nord 6.6921/335.38 bye

A tremendous 0.0900 reaction for Jan-Egil, 1.0259 to sixty feet. Meanwhile Johan's tyres spun, he pedalled and the big Nova hooked up on the second attempt. 4.2099 to half track for Jan Egil and 4.7230/257.66 for Johan. Jonny pulled a big burnout, Jan took it a lot easier, I understand this is his first outing. -0.0190 red light for Jonny, languid sixty foot times for both Jan in 1.2311 and Jonny in 1.2948. Jan hit shake, pedalled a couple of times and then put the chute out, Jonny was off the throttle before half track. A lot of concern around Ingo's car before he staged but in he went so nothing serious. Instant shake for Niclas, he tried pedalling but to no avail as the car started jumping about so he got off the throttle. Ingo pedalled a couple of times as his tyres spun and feathered the throttle all the way down. Shake for both Peter and Norbert, Norbert tried pedalling and the Avenger started to make a move for the guardrail but he stayed with it, 4.6419/224.93 at half track. Peter meanwhile pedalled a couple of times but when he got back on the throttle at about half track the right hand door came off, described a couple of somersaults in mid-air, then spun across the right lane. Terje's motor cut out at the hit, it was as if someone hit the kill switch. Jari drove through shake but then took it very gently all the way down. Micke N was shut off before staging because there was a problem with the left lane timing beams. Kristian took the bye and tried to drive through shake, but he got off the throttle when the car made a hard move towards the guardrail. A titanic match-up next, Micke G and Andy, the #1 and #2 from last season. Great burnouts from both and it promised a lot but Micke's big Chevy hit shake at about sixty feet and turned hard right, there was a puff of smoke from Andy's Stude and in all the pedalling noise I think I heard the blower burst plate go. Freddy announced his presence with a 300-foot burnout. Mats had a tremendous 0.0979 reaction but he had a cylinder out from the line and shut off before half track. Freddy didn't go entirely in a straight line but clocked 4.4300/273.25 to half track and into #2 spot at that point. 1.0550 to sixty feet for Roger to Urban's 1.0698, Roger shut off at about half track whilst Urban pedalled once, 4.4518/268.55 at half track and #3 spot at that moment. A very nice run for Bruno, 1.0330 to sixty feet, 4.1899/277.73 at half track and into #1 at that point. Markko Lantto did not start before his run against Marc Meihuizen so Marc took the bye. A great looking run to start with, 1.0199 to sixty feet and 4.1568/284.03 at half track but then the Coupe made a move to the right and Marc got off the throttle. After Micke L's run at the Press Call we couldn't wait to see what he would do on a full pass and he didn't let us down, 1.0410 to sixty feet, 4.0990/287.38 at half track and into #1 spot. Patrick's incrementals were a little more gentle, 1.1269 at sixty feet and 4.5173/256.60 at half track. Finally Micke Nord took his bye after being shut off earlier. A solid run, sounded as if Micke feathered the throttle slightly but into #5 spot to round off the session.

FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Timo Lehtimaki 4.7330/276.40 bye, Monica Öberg 4.4820/404.62, Risto Poutiainen 4.6769/402.51, Jöran Persåker shut off, Tommi Haapanen 4.1429/458.44 bye, Stig Neergaard 7.4847/126.18, Jari Halinen 4.5169/411.36, Urs Erbacher 4.4890/343.33, Andy Carter 4.5970/370.00, Micke Kågered 4.5560/316.06, Lex Joon 6.2020/261.36

The honour of the first ever European 1000-foot qualifying pass (actually 990 feet) went to Timo. 0.8539 to sixty feet, all cylinders burning at that point but then cylinders went out on the left side, a bang and a big ball of flame just before the eighth (3.4740/306.74) and then a sizeable fire as the blower belt flew into the air. Word came over on the track radio "I guess that's the block, I'm finding pieces of metal here".

Monica and Risto first on the re-start. Risto's tyres didn't light on the burnout. 0.9429 to sixty feet for Monica to Risto's 0.9748, Monica visibly to half track first 3.5711/365.40 to Risto's 3.7340/349.95. Monica looked to have cylinders out as she went into the 990 foot speed trap. Jöran had trouble getting reverse but finally made it back to the line and then couldn't get forward gear so he shut off. Tommi took the bye, and what a great run. 0.8899 to sixty feet, 3.3151/395.54 to half track, not a hint of shake or any other problem and into #1 spot at that point, 284.86 mph in real money at the finish. In the next pairing Stig was away first 0.1491 to 0.1741, relatively gentle sixty feet times for both, 0.9308 for Stig to Jari's 0.9538. Smoke from Stig's motor and he was off the throttle at about 300 feet, a good-looking run for Jari and a good baseline. Andy Carter left just as the ambers came on, it was a close thing, -0.3992 so eight ten thousandths from not getting a time. 0.8830 to sixty feet for Urs to Andy's storming 0.8382 which I think is the third quickest sixty foot time ever in Europe. Andy got to half track in 3.5671/327.81 and his tyres were starting to go up in smoke by that point and they positively blazed in the last 300 feet or so. 3.4850/361.93 to half track for Urs and a hint of hazing tyres towards the end, off the throttle a touch early by the look of things. Lex away first in his pairing with Micke, 0.1680 to 0.1940 but his tyres went up in smoke just off the line, 1.1628 to sixty feet to Micke's 0.9039. Micke had a hint of hazing tyres just before the eighth (3.4728/366.35) and he pedalled, and then got off the throttle.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Tommi Haapanen 4.1429/458.44
  2. Monica Öberg 4.4820/404.62

FIA Pro Stock qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Christer Wiklund 9.4119/153.49, Peter Dahlin 7.2109/311.01, Kenneth Söderström 7.0164/316.06, Jan Palmqvist 7.7379/210.61, Jonas Dantanus 7.5447/301.99, Micke Callin 6.9800/320.62, Michael Malmgren 7.5772/313.31, Adam Flamholc 8.8510/166.86, Tommy Leindahl 7.0448/317.88, Richard Sundblom 7.0168/293.99, Magnus Hansson 6.9339/320.37, Jimmy Ålund 6.8538/324.82

Peter away first 0.1310 to 0.5310, 1.0828 to sixty feet to Christer's 1.1041, Christer's car was making moves left and right and he was off the throttle before half track. A straight run for Peter, 4.6539/244.73 at half track. 1.0262 to sixty feet for Kenneth to Jan's 1.0450, Kenneth getting the advantage towards half track 4.5084 to Jan's 4.5598, Jan's car started to move around after the eighth and he got off the throttle. A huge burnout for Jonas on his spare engine, easily 300 feet and the car was weaving left and right as he got off it. Jonas went into pre-stage and then backed out and went in again. Jonas away first 0.0341 to 0.0850 but then he hit shake, 1.0120 to sixty feet for Micke to Jonas' 1.1940. 4.4980/252.22 to half track for Micke, the first six of the weekend, and into the lead at that point. Adam away first 0.1110 to Michael's 0.1499, Michael hit shake off the line, 1.1821 to sixty feet to Adam's 1.0230. Michael drove through the shake and stayed with it, Adam was off the throttle before half track but no obvious reason from here. Richard away first in the next pairing, 0.1091 to 0.1210, Tommy had 1.0609 to sixty feet to Richard's 1.0559, 4.5320/250.52 at half track to Richard's 4.5029/255.79 and Richard was first to the stripe by 0.0399. A great pairing between Magnus and Jimmy, a new track speed record for Jimmy and a huge advantage over the rest of the field so far. 0.9952 to sixty feet for Jimmy to 1.0259 for Magnus, and 4.4050/255.19 at half track to Magnus' 4.4589/320.37.

FIM/UEM Supertwin qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Lorenz Stäuble 7.1810/102.71, Per Bengtsson 4.5299/249.66

A re-run for Lorenz and Per after the timing system problems. Very similar sixty foot times 1.1750 for Lo to 1.1740 for Per, then Lo's bike tried to throw him off and he got off the throttle. Per went straight and hard, a grest run by The Beast.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Svein Olav Rolfstad 4.4277/271.14
  2. Per Bengtsson 4.5299/249.66

FIM/UEM Top Fuel Bike qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Patrick Borgh 5.6077/216.22 bye, Mikael Andersson 4.8599/245.33, Peter Eriksson 5.3688/213.65, Marc Weber 5.1968/220.95 bye, Michal Ponca 6.1377/177.56, Peter Svensson 4.1301/296.58, Otto Knebl 5.3131/216.94, Eric Teboul 4.3051/225.59, Peter Andersson Ström shut off, Kai Selkämaa 11.9580/53.37 bye, Rikard Gustafsson 5.8992/119.85, Ian King 4.3839/284.83

Patrick's rear trye screeched at the hit and the engine hesitated, he got back on the throttle but had to lean to keep the bike off the rail towards the eighth. 1.2489 to sixty feet for Mikael to Peter's 1.3660, Mikael's front wheel took a long time to come down but he went into #1 at that point. 1.2867 to sixty feet for Marc, the bike fishtailing some. A great pass for Peter, 1.0451 to sixty feetm straight as you like, the first half of a new European record and a new track record for both ET and speed, well done Peter! A bit of drama in the next pairing as Eric Teboul was on a stormer, 1.0249 to sixty feet but then the bike started to make a move to the right, Eric got off the throttle but the bike sideswiped the guardrail at quite some speed. From here it looked like a glancing blow and Eric kept the bike upright and under control, and he certainly got it stopped no problem. Sounded to me as if Eric was quite OK too. A straight run for Otto. Peter S shut off after the burnout, the engine note was very high even to my inexpert ear. Kair took the bye and effectively pulled another burnout to sixty feet. If you checked out Eurodragster.com News recently you will know what a thrash Kai and his team had to get here so I think he will be pleased to get a time on the board. Rikard got a huge jump on Ian 0.2070 to 0.4531, and the better sixty foot time 1.1170 to 1.1790 but he was off the throttle before the eighth and Ian was already passing him by that point.

  1. Peter Svensson 4.1301/296.58

FIM/UEM Supertwin qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Erik Frank 5.1020/211.10 bye, Anders Karling 13.4470/46.69, Job Heezen 4.6408/249.76, Gunther Sohn 7.2609/104.20, Tommy Möller 5.4270/159.44, Lorenz Stäuble shut off, Per Bengtsson shut off, Svein Olav Rolfstad 4.4277/271.14, Hans Olav Olstad 6.4591/242.81,

Erik opened the session, 1.1641 to sixty feet and leaning over as the bike started to move left towards the eighth. Great burnouts by Anders and Job, Anders' bike sounded as if it was idling very fast but no concern from the crew so all OK I guess. Job away first by a long way, the bike going very straight and Job appeared to stay on the throttle after the eighth, meanwhile Anders sat on the line, 2.6759 reaction, and then there was a huge bang and a ball of flame from the engine about twenty feet out. From where I am sat Anders looked just fine, and the track was OK, I am not sure the same will be true for the engine but here's hoping it wasn't as bad as it looked. Tommy appeared to have problems starting and pulled a very short burnout so that Gunther didn't have to wait. Tommy away first 0.1320 to 0.7450, Gunther's bike started to head for the centre line, sixty feet in 1.1670 and then off the throttle. Tommy clocked 1.2518 to sixty feet and then his bike started to make a move to the right, then he shut off and something came off the bike just by the eighth. Lorenz and Per next up, but the timing system restarted itself after Lorenz and Per pulled their burnouts, after a short wait both Lorenz and Per shut off and pushed back. A very strong, straight run for Svein Olav, 1.1378 to sixty feet whilst Hans Olav's engine seemed to hesitate off the line.

Kenneth Vik 7.7199/278.55 bye, Gabriella Nikokovska 12.9040/124.19 bye, Stavros Svrachnos no time, Bousinis Haralambo no time, Chris Hope 8.0011/243.04 bye, Martin Bishop 7.5369/282.68, Richard Gipp 7.8229/276.64, Fredrik Fredlund 7.4223/285.78, Ulf Ögge 7.5563/242.05

Gabbi had a few problems after starting so Kenneth was sent on a bye. Gabbi then had problems off the line and the bike made a move for the guardrail and never really got away from that side of her lane. Drama in the next pairing as Stavros crossed lanes in front of Bousinis but stayed on the throttle as did Bousinis and the two were more or less in convoy under power all the way down the track. Chris was leaning the bike to the right towards the top end. A nice pair of baseline passes for Martin and Richard and then a very nic match-up between Fredrik and Ulf, Fredrik away first and staying out in front for the lead at the end of this session.

Good morning and welcome from Mantorp Park for the second day of qualifying for the Veidec Festival. It's a beautiful day here and we're all set to bring you all the news in association with American Car Imports.

The Webster Race Engineering/MPM Oil webcam will be on-line as long as the track is open and will be scheduled to post a picture every sixty seconds.

It is another scorching day here at Mantorp Park. It is only twenty past seven in the morning but you can already feel the sun burning. If it stays this hot it will be interesting to see how the Pro cars and bikes fare. We spoke to one team last night and asked if they had a hot weather tune-up. When they replied "Yes" we asked if they had a very hot weather tune-up. The reply was "Er...we'll start with the hot weather tune-up".

A big Hello to Ivar Kolberg who is stuck at work in Norway but who sent us a very warm E-Mail to say how much he is enjoying the coverage. In fact we have had a lot of appreciative comments already for which many thanks. From other E-Mails the old question has arisen of why we only track the top fives in NDRS Sportsman qualifying; this is a very fair question and the quick answer is that we would dearly love to track the full results in NDRS Sportsman but as things stand we do this all by hand and the NDRS Sportsman classes just run through too quickly to keep up with them all and type them all up. You can find more at www.eurodragster.com/faq.asp#event_coverage_04.

The track opens at 8:15 with Junior Dragster qualifying, and today's two Pro sessions are scheduled for 9:30 and 13:00. Stay tuned and we'll be back as soon as the wheels start to move, and don't forget to check out Simon's pit notes during the day.
