19:15 Veidec Festival curtailed

Racing was stopped after the second round of NDRS Bilsport Pro Modified due to the local curfew, so that's the end of the 2005 Veidec Festival.

Simon has just posted his final set of pit notes for this weekend, and Erik has posted today's NDRS results. Sharkman is working on today's pictures so stay tuned for those.

17:25 NDRS Bilsport Pro Modified eliminations round 2:

Marc Meihuizen 6.575/343.12 def. Terje Håkonsen 6.862/343.95

Terje left first 0.092 to 0.118 and his sixty foot time was quicker, but Marc got past him although it sounded as if he was feathering the throttle at about half track before getting fully back on it.

Patrick Wikström 6.361/356.55 def. Micke Lindahl 6.446/347.89

Big burnouts by both cars, Patrick rolling almost all the way to the finish line. Micke's car looked fine after its earlier sandtrap visit. Patrick left first 0.079 to 0.105, Micke had the quicker sixty foot time and it looked close for most of the length of the track but Patrick took the stripe.

Micke Gullquist 6.464/350.46 def. Jallo Makimäa 6.531/343.03

Jallo's front left wheel didn't come down until almost half track, Micke was ahead from the start 0.218 to 0.348 and stayed there.

Håkan Nilsson 6.470/350.05 def. Roger Johansson 6.567/343.41

Nitrous v nitrous in this match-up, 0.040 to 0.086 in Roger's favour off the start line but Håkan was already pulling it back by sixty feet and pulled away down the track.

17:15 FIM/UEM Pro Stock Bike eliminations round 1:

Anders Abrahamsson 7.442/288.25 bye

Anders took a single by dint of his #1 qualifying place. A good-looking run, sounded as if he drove it through the back door.

Martin Bishop 7.468/285.50 def. Chris Hope 8.062/201.05

UK v UK, wouldn't you just know it. Chris left first 0.095 to 0.174 but it looked very tight until Chris got very close to the guardrail at the top end and got off the throttle.

Roger Pettersson 7.352/293.51 bye, Magnus Solverup no show

A great run for Roger in very hot conditions.

Orjan Gustavsson 7.679/275.33 def. Anders Larsson 7.504/284.10

Orjan won this race with a tremendous 0.010 to 0.199 holeshot over Anders. Anders tried very hard but couldn't reel Orjan in.

17:10 FIA Pro Stock eliminations round 1:

Michael Malmgren 7.116/316.29 def. Rickard Sundblom 7.147/312.87 red light

Rickard redlit by 0.395 handing the race to Michael, who clocked 0.030 off the line and drove through shake to take his automatic win.

Jimmy Ålund 7.039/316.55 def. Ulf Jonsson 7.190/310.73

Jimmy is always very quick on the lights but Ulf was quicker, leaving first first 0.045 to 0.080. Jimmy's sixty foot time of 1.045 was quicker than Ulf by 0.043 and he pulled ahead to take the stripe.

Jan Murén 7.005/319.00 def. Jackie Hansen 7.160/311.06

Jan had the advantage off the line 0.052 to 0.119 and was pulling ahead all the way down the track.

Magnus Hansson 6.985/317.77 def. Jöran Persåker 7.193/308.41

Jöran pulled a two hundred foot burnout before his match-up with Magnus, and then his crew made some last-minute adjustments to his wheelie bars. Magnus was away first and never looked back.

17:00 FIA Top Methanol Funny Car eliminations round 1:

Dan Larsen 5.903/393.02 def. Arvid Grödem 7.466/209.80 red light

Arvid deep-staged and paid the price for the risk with a 0.007 red light, but you can't blame him for trying it with Dan in the form he is this weekend. Arvid hit shake and got off the throttle, a very clean and consistent pass for Dan.

Leif Anréasson 7.975/181.65 def. Jarmo Kuutniemi 7.889/188.05 red light

Great burnouts from both cars. Jarmo pulled a huge 0.350 red light; Leif hit bad shake not far off the line, pedalled a couple of times then got off the throttle - I am guessing that Leif saw Jarmo's red light as it was so blatant.

Niclas Andersson 5.842/385.20 def. Urs Erbacher 5.890/393.00

This could be the day we discovered that Urs is not unbeatable. Niclas, always renowned for his reactions, strapped a clearly visible 0.044 to 0.137 holeshot on Urs and although Urs chased hard Niclas had the quicker ET and no-one was catching him.

Ulf Leanders 5.869/378.43 def. Martin Lundkvist red light no time

Team mates of Europe's only two-car TMFC went head-to-head, it looked as if Martin's car was dragged through the lights on the clutch as he pulled a 0.190 red light, and he shut off a few feet off the line. Ulf would have been difficult to catch anyway, the Leanders Brothers look to have found their form again.

16:45 FIM/UEM Supertwin eliminations round 1:

Anders Karling 6.802/272.90 def. Pettri Kaolttonen 9.888/135.35

Pettri got away first 0.149 to 0.197, a thousandth apart at sixty feet but Anders started to pull away. Pettri's bike then lost cylinders and he got off the throttle, Charley shut off very early so I am guessing that he realised that Pettri wasn't there any more.

Joachim Riemer 7.041/311.67 bye, Per Bengtsson shut off

Per's bike shed small pieces of aluminium on the start line as he apprached stage, he quickly shut off. Joachim took a clean and straight bye. Christer tells us that a small screw came undone in Per's transmission and stripped some metal, nothing serious.

Ton Pels 7.170/306.87 def. Svein Gottenberg 7.280/305.81

Svein left first 0.095 to 0.148, Ton overhauled him by half-track and stayed ahead, both shut off a touch early.

Ronny Aasen 6.750/329.28 def. Lorenz Stauble 6.978/291.97

Lo left first 0.091 to 0.129 and the bikes looked side-by-side for a long way down the track before Ronny pulled ahead and took the stripe. Lo won't be dissatisfied with a very competent third competitive outing.

16:30 FIA Top Methanol Dragster eliminations round 1:

Dave Wilson 5.522/412.10 bye

A great burnout by Grumpy, really boiling the hides. On the green, 0.949 to sixty feet and looking very strong all the way down.

Krister Johansson 5.628/412.21 def. Mats Björklund 6.264/385.97

Krister has always been renowned for his quick reactions and he really stuck it to Mats this time, a 0.122 to 0.533. A straight and clean run for Krister, Mats had a grandstand view and backed off way before the finish line. We had a small cleanup in Krister's lane right on the finish line.

Peter Schöfer 6.742/356.00 def. Yngve Solberg 7.166/303.91

Peter dodged a bullet on this one. Yngve away first 0.057 to 0.159, at about half track Peter's car made exactly the same misfiring noise and mixed up cylinders as it did in qualifying, Peter pedalled a couple of times, the car picked up again and he managed to stay ahead of Yngve.

Rob Turner 5.592/404.12 def. Timo Habermann 7.672/181.15

Timo away first 0.093 to 0.146, wheels-up again, Rob quickly got alongside him, both cars on very strong passes but Rob was pulling ahead when Timo's burst panel blew.

16:10 FIM/UEM Top Fuel Bike eliminations round 1:

Sverre Dahl 6.593/326.73 def. Håkan Endvall 10.365/245.56

Håkan was away first 0.048 to 0.161, but his bike hesitated and Sverre was a second ahead by sixty feet. Sverre stayed with it all the way to the finish line.

Peter Andersson Ström 7.307/304.80 bye, Nils Ole Lund shut off

One of the fire crew ran to Nils Ole as he approached stage, whatever happened was on the other side of the bike from Race Control. Peter took the bye, feathered the throttle once and the bike sounded as if it was labouring in the second half of the track.

Roel Koedam 6.395/323.36 def. Per Wern 7.699/288.78

Per strapped a 0.048 to 0.253 holeshot on Roel, but Roel was past him by about a hundred feet and stayed with it almost to the stripe.

Ian King 6.848/303.28 def. Mikael Andersson 7.997/267.26

0.070 to 0.196 in Mikael's favour off the start line but Ian quickly caught and passed him, feathering the throttle towards the finish line and then backing off.

15:50 FIA Top Fuel Dragster eliminations round 1:

Tommy Möller 4.872/465.30 def. Jöran Persåker 6.907/188.68

Tommy got away first 0.218 to 0.247, 0.859 to sixty feet for Tommy to 0.927 for Jöran. There was a small haze of nitro from Jöran's dragster which suddenly erupted into a huge fireball and the car was on fire all the way down the track from there. Tommy hit shake at about sixty feet but pedalled and then hooked up and shot down the track straight as you like. Aluminium and oil were found in Jöran's lane so I guess that's one late engine.

Jöran stepped into Race Control shortly afterwards and told us that he is fine. "It just got a little bit hot around here" he said, pointing to his back.

Thomas Nataas 5.047/452.43 def. Susanne Callin 5.166/372.63

Thomas was away first 0.097 to 0.108, 0.900 sixty foot to Susanne's 0.899, the cars were side by side most of the way, Susanne got off the throttle shortly before the finish whilst Thomas stayed on it, his dragster made a scary-looking big move to the left at the finish line but Thomas hung on to it.

Micke Kågered 5.006/429.78 def. Monica Öberg 7.898/192.49

Some consternation about the rear of Monica's dragster after coming back from the burnout, it looked as if she briefly had trouble getting back into forward gear. Almost identical reactions 0.143 to 0.144 in Micke's favour, at about 200 feet Monica's tyres started to haze and then smoke and there was a flash of flame and she backed off the throttle. Micke put in a great, straight pass, backing off a touch before the finish line.

Lex Joon 4.788/481.93 def. Andy Carter 4.953/480.79

Lex whacked Andy on the start line 0.108 to 0.301 and as soon as he left the line you could tell that it was a special run, the car just hooked up and went. 0.872 to sixty feet to Andy's 0.877, Lex was really motoring by half track, no haze or flame this time apart from header flames, and Mantorp Park erupted when the ET came up on the scoreboard. Andy's run was no slouch but Lex had such a lead off the line that it would have taken something really special to catch him. This is the fourth quickest run in European Top Fuel history, Lex will need to run 4.836 or quicker to back it up for a European ET record.

14:45 NDRS Bilsport Pro Modified eliminations round 1:

A huge Well Done to the track crew for their hard work in drying the track. They have not stopped working all day.

Terje Håkonsen 6.453/351.92 def. Andy Robinson 6.416/356.97

A three hundred foot burnout from Terje before the race, Andy went to sixty feet. On the green Terje was away first 0.118 to 0.167, Andy drove through shake and tried hard but couldn't chase Terje down, backing off just short of the finish line and there was some smoke from the engine in the shutdown area.

Marc Meihuizen 6.485/343.10 def. Freddy Fagerström 12.451/103.54

This was all Marc, away first 0.114 to 0.122, Freddy hit shake not far off the line and pedalled once then got off it. Marc went straight and true and blasted his PB and the Dutch record for the second time this weekend.

Patrick Wikström 6.363/357.47 def. Bruno Bader 6.728/333.51

The usual spectacular burnout from Patrick, burning out to 300 feet and then rolling past half track although he reversed so quickly that he was back before Bruno. 0.164 to 0.168 RTs in Patrick's favour and he was pulling away all the way down the track. Bruno will I'm sure be pleased with his first competitive weekend in Pro Mod, though.

Micke Lindahl 6.439/345.06 def. Norbert Kuno 6.638/342.71 red light

A brief staging duel before this race, Micke went in first. Norbert pulled a 0.026 red light, Micke left in 0.169 and took the automatic win but then his chutes failed and he went into the sand trap and out the other side. Christer at the top end reported that Micke's brother said that the damage is reparable.

Micke Gullquist 6.437/350.77 def. Christer Jacobs 6.459/340.95

A very nice race between Micke and Christer, Micke away first 0.145 to 0.226, no sign of shake for either car and Micke took the stripe.

Jallo Makimåa 6.596/340.23 def. Jörgen Karlsson 6.762/297.44

An all-nitrous match-up. Jörgen was away first 0.115 to 0.249 but Jallo drove round him in short order. At the finish line Jörgen's car made a hard move to the right, how he missed Jallo I have no idea, it looked very close from here. Jörgen got the car under control then put the chutes out very late, but got stopped safely.

Håkan Nilsson 6.518/349.51 def. Kent Trenneman 6.576/342.13

Håkan got away first with a visible 0.096 to 0.159 holeshot and stayed ahead all the way, it looked from here as if Håkan backed off a touch early and there was smoke from the car on the stripe. A nice run from Kent also.

Roger Johansson 7.072/229.39 bye, Gordon Appleton shut off

Gordon and Roger were shut off just before staging as the sun broke out and brought water up through cracks in the track. On the restart Gordon shut off after coming back from his burnout. Roger put in a strong-looking pass, shutting off at about three quarter track.

8:45

Good morning and welcome from Mantorp Park for day four of the Veidec Festival.

The webcam is on-line and broadcasting a picture every two minutes, you can view it via the event index page.

Unfortunately yesterday's rain has not yet gone away, it is a very sorry scene outside more reminiscent of winter than summer!

Simon is out in the pits so stay tuned to the pit notes page, and as soon as the rain stops and things start to move here we will be back in touch.
