18:00 NDRS Bilsport Pro Modified qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Jallo Makimäa 25.837/64.11 bye, Bert-Ole Olofsson 6.766/334.51, Robert Koper 11.075/125.63, Urban Johansson 7.196/320.78, Torsten Kath 8.373/190.67, Terje Hakonsen 6.680/342.57, Jan Arve Nygård 6.764/339.77, Norbert Kuno 6.637/341.94, Lars Inge Johansson 7.643/222.11, Håkan Fällström 6.740/328.56 bye, Marc Meihuizen 6.566/340.97, Roger Johansson 6.631/331.54, Freddy Fagerström 6.643/346.40; Marko Lantto 7.172/318.88, Jörgen Karlsson 6.610/340.75, Lars Olsson 7.150/302.51, Gordon Appleton 7.241/212.04, Mats Eriksson 6.966/274.24, Patrick Wikström 6.512/350.41, Christer Jacobs 7.137/305.29, Micke Lindahl 11.831/105.96, Håkan Nilsson 6.442/351.82, Micke Gullquist 6.394/341.92, Kent Trenneman 6.878/254.04

Jallo's car engine hesitated off the line and he cruised through. Robert was off the throttle very quickly as Bert-Ole put in a very nice-looking pass moving him right up to thirteenth at that point. Urban's 'Vette appeared to roll off the line again before Urban hit the throttle, just getting the hang of the car I'd imagine but he still moved up the field, Torsten appeared to be off the throttle early but he too moved up. A very strong run from Norbert moved him up the field whilst Lars Inge also improved on his return to racing.

Just as Norbert and Lars Inge left the line it started to rain very lightly, we were on hold for a while. Håkan F took the bye as Patrik Pers was pushed away from the collection area. A nice pass from Håkan moved him up the field. Great passes for both Marc and Roger, both moving right up the field and we think a PB for Marc. Freddy got right out of the groove on his pass but stayed with it as you'd expect whilst Marko improved and moved up the field a little. Nitrous v Nitrous next and Jörgen put in a consistent pass whilst Lars moved up a couple of spots. Then blower v blower, nothing obviously wrong for Gordon after a strong launch but he had the chutes out before the finish line whilst Mats improved his ET even though he had to pedal a couple of times, staying where he was in the standings though. No improvements for Patrick or Christer, Christer lost quite a lot of time on his previous pass, no visible problem.

Micke Gullquist and Kent Treneman were shut off on the line as the Tree failed, the tech crew quickly sorted it out and we carried on. High drama in the next pairing as Micke Lindahl's tyres went up in smoke then the car turned hard right, Micke stayed with it and tried to steer out of it and the car started to go sideways, going up on two wheels as a shower of sparks came from under the car which I guess was the exhaust grouding. Micke did a great job of keeping the car in his lane and off the rail. Meanwhile Håkan N put in a great, straight pass to move up the field at that point. Micke G and Kent then matched up again, Micke went straight and clean as you like to take second place whilst Kent moved about his lane, almost touching the centreline, before his chutes deployed at about three quarter track.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Andy Robinson 6.363/359.78
  2. Micke Gullquist 6.394/341.92
  3. Micke Lindahl 6.420/348.70

17:00 FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Jöran Persåker 5.690/291.19 bye, Thomas Nataas 5.018/474.94, Susanne Callin 5.057/452.86, Micke Kågered 4.944/452.29, Gary Page 8.518/166.60, Lex Joon 5.341/316.50, Tommy Möller 5.045/360.44

0.924 to sixty feet for Jöran and looking on a good one then the header flames on one side changed colour to orange and a yellow haze filled the air, Jöran was off the throttle at about three quarter track. An excellent side-by-side run between Thomas and Susanne, both on the throttle all the way, a new PB for Susanne. There was no sign of Susanne's 'chutes as she went over the crest of the hill in the shutdown area and a cloud of dust signalled a trip into the sandtrap at the end of the track. Susanne told us that she is A-OK. The car actually went through the other end of the sandtrap and into the field behind it. Damage to the car appears to be limited to the body panels.

Micke and Gary then paired up, all eyes were on Gary as the front left hand side of the car was twisted up and wouldn't come down, the tyres started to smoke and Gary got off the throttle. Meanwhile Micke was on a stormer, it looked as if the rear tyres were hazing a little but Micke stayed with it and went into #2 spot at that point. Lex and Tommy then paired up, the first half of the match-up was spectacular with both cars hooking up and going, 0.874 sixty foot for Tommy. Sharkman at trackside reported parts of blower belt filling the air as the cars came past, Lex and Tommy were both off the throttle long before the finish line.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Tommy Möller 4.845/453.64
  2. Micke Kågered 4.944/452.29
  3. Thomas Nataas 5.018/474.94
  4. Susanne Callin 5.057/452.86
  5. Andy Carter 5.060/478.11
  6. Lex Joon 5.341/316.50
  7. Monica Öberg 5.621/392.24
  8. Jöran Persåker 5.690/291.19
  9. Gary Page 8.518/166.60

16:25 FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Mats Björklund 5.949/392.12, Yngve Solberg 7.122/305.87, Peter Schöfer 9.837/133.18, Timo Habermann 7.101/207.39, Dave Wilson 5.435/419.24, Rob Turner 5.632/399.96

A nice pass from Mats driving through shake, Yngve ran an identical ET to his last pass but the car was moving around some in the second half of the track. Peter left the line strongly but then cylinders started to go out and the engine sounded rough, Peter got off the throttle before half track. Timo looked to be on a stormer but the blower burst panel blew at about 800 feet. Dave and Rob had a superb match-up, Rob got the jump off the line but Grumpy ran him down and set another new track ET record, well done Grumpy!

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Dave Wilson 5.435/419.24
  2. Peter Schöfer 5.591/409.62
  3. Rob Turner 5.608/408.63
  4. Krister Johansson 5.826/409.05
  5. Mats Björklund 5.949/392.12

  7. Yngve Solberg 7.122/306.45

16:15 FIM/UEM Supertwin qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Fredrik Solheim no time, Stefan Junerud 13.095/88.74, Petri Kalttonen broke, Gunther Sohn 9.887/210.25 bye, Tomas Sulek 9.213/215.44, Torbjörn Svensson 7.999/274.65, Greger Johansson 8.174/245.67, Svein Gottenberg 7.004/301.42, Per Bengtsson 6.807/308.70, Lorenz Stauble broke, Hans-Christian Nilsen no time, Ronny Aasen 6.771/324.08, Hans Olav Olstad 7.752/324.11, Ton Pels 6.680/321.33, Sven Olav Rolfstad 7.324/259.36, Anders Karling 8.213/176.20

Good to see Stefan back in the saddle. Fredrik's tyre didn't light on the burnout and he paid for it at the hit as the rear tyre instantly went up in smoke and there was a flash of flame from the engine. Stefan looked to be on a good pass but the engine cut out at about 400 feet. Petri's engine cut out as soon as he started his burnout, Gunther took the bye and got off the throttle at about a hundred feet after the bike started to head for the guardrail. Torbjörn improved his ET but stayed where he was in the standings whilst Tomas improved and moved up a couple of places at that point. A consistent run for Svein, straight and clean, whilst Greger improved and moved up the field. Per put in a great pass to moe up to fourth at that point whilst there was a very loud bang from Lo's engine at the hit. A strong pass from Ronny, improving but staying where he was in the standings, whilst there was a bang from Hans-Christian's engine and he sidelined the bike. A tremendoud pass from Ton took over #1 spot at that point whilst Hans Olav hit shake off the line and had to feather the throttle although he improved and moved up. Svein Olaf rode through shake whilst Anders' engine appeared to sneeze the blower at half track when he was going great guns.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Ton Pels 6.680/321.33
  2. Anders Karling 6.703/317.56
  3. Ronny Aasen 6.771/324.08

  14. Tomas Sulek 9.213/215.44
  15. Stefan Junerud 13.095/88.74

15:55 FIA Top Methanol Funny Car qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Ulf Leanders 9.831/134.58 bye, Leif Andréasson 6.044/389.86 bye, Kjell Sjöblom 6.801/329.09, Arvid Grødem 6.363/367.43, Niclas Andersson 8.943/156.45 bye, Jürgen Nagel DQ, Martin Lundqvist 6.326/368.78, Urs Erbacher 5.913/395.18, Dan Larsen 5.865/390.15

A long burnout and then a very high-speed back-up from Ulf, maybe he's been talking to Freddy! On the green Ulf hit shake but drove through it, but then at about 300 feet the engine revs went up and Ulf pedalled, then got off it. Leif rolled a long way after his burnout and in fact briefly disappeared from our view here in Race Control. On the green the car left very strongly but then shook at about 100 feet, Leif pedalled and got back on the throttle and stayed with it all the way and into third spot at that point. Kjell's car has what looks like several autographs or messages from wellwishers on the bonnet, we'll have to check that out. Kjell's car appeared to misfire off the line but then picked up and ran, Arvid drove through shake, the car was really moving around and vapour was coming out of the breather at the back. Both racers were in the field of eight at that point. Niclas drove through shake and then the car started to drift towards the right-hand guardrail, Niclas had his hands full and eventually got off the throttle and pulled the car away from the wall. Jürgen left early and his time was disqualified; Martin waited for the green and then had to pedal a couple of times. A superb match-up between Urs and Dan, Dan left first and stayed ahead all the way to take #1 spot.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Dan Larsen 5.865/390.15
  2. Urs Erbacher 5.877/391.48
  3. Leif Andréasson 6.044/389.86
  4. Jarmo Kuutniemi 6.086/382.23
  5. Martin Lundqvist 6.231/373.65
  6. Arvid Grødem 6.363/367.43
  7. Jürgen Nagel 6.600/320.69
  8. Kjell Sjöblom 6.801/329.09
  9. Jonas Staflund 6.859/218.63
  10. Niclas Andersson 8.943/156.45
  11. Ulf Leanders 9.678/161.02

15:30 FIM/UEM Top Fuel Bike qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Shaun Branch no time recorded (bye), Håkan Edvall 10.013/250.19, Per Wern 8.557/268.67, Mikael Andersson 13.211/108.61 bye, Ian King 6.675/301.20, Roel Koedam 6.507/310.91

I noticed sparks from Shaun's bike during the burnout, probably just the clutch, on the green Shaun got to about sixty feet and a belt broke. Håkan's bike hesitated off the line then picked up, a much better run for Per. Mikael was off the throttle way before half track on his bye, nothing obvious wrong. A nice match-up between Ian and Roel, towards the top end it was as if neither wanted to be the first to get off the throttle, Roel took #1 spot and Ian #2.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Roel Koedam 6.507/310.91
  2. Ian King 6.675/301.20
  3. Sverre Dahl 6.849/357.53
  4. Peter Andersson Ström 7.259/259.09
  5. Nils Ole Lund 7.595/268.14

  7. Per Wern 8.557/268.67
  8. Håkan Edvall 10.013/250.19
  9. Tommy Jonsson 10.544/186.36

14:55 FIA Pro Stock qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Peter Emilsson 7.177/309.07 bye, Michael Malmgren 7.074/315.56, Ulf Jonsson 7.161/311.91, Jan Murén 7.039/318.24, Jöran Persåker 7.160/309.89, Magnus Hansson 6.959/318.91, Jackie Hansen broke, Jimmy Ålund 6.965/319.77 bye, Rickard Sundblom 7.150/314.59 bye

An improvement in ET but not placing for Peter Emilsson, staying with it as the car drifted towards the centre line so there is more to come when the car goes straight. A consistent run from Michael whilst a big improvement from Ulf moved him two places up the field at that point. Jan also improved without changing position whilst Jöran moved back above Ulf. Drama in the next round as Jackie backed up from his burnout leaving a small trail of burning fluid on the track. The safety crews sprinted to help, then Magnus took the bye run and a fine pass for #1 spot at that point. With the right lane out for clean-up Jimmy and Rickard took byes rather than pairing up, Jimmy with a very consistent pass and Rickard also running consistently in the newly-cleaned right lane.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Magnus Hansson 6.959/318.91
  2. Jimmy Ålund 6.962/320.29
  3. Jan Murén 7.039/318.24
  4. Michael Malmgren 7.070/316.22
  5. Rickard Sundblom 7.128/307.89

  7. Jöran Persåker 7.160/309.89
  8. Ulf Jonsson 7.161/311.91
  9. Peter Emilsson 7.177/309.07

14:35 FIM/UEM Pro Stock Bike qualifying session 2 (left lane first):

Anders Larsson 7.543/262.87, Orjan Gustavsson 7.685/276.86, Anders Abrahamsson 7.361/290.69, Martin Bishop 7.450/288.42 Roger Pettersson 7.455/290.05, Chris Hope 7.567/274.32, Magnus Solverup

A consistent pass from Anders L but he stayed where he was in the standings, whilst Orjan improved and moved up the field at that point. Big improvments from Anders A and Martin moved them up to first and third at that point, we're pretty sure a PB for Martin, well done Martin! A consistent pass for Roger but he stayed in second, whilst Chris improved but threw an exhaust at half track.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Anders Abrahamsson 7.361/290.69

13:50 FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Yngve Solberg 7.122/306.45 bye, Timo Habermann 6.310/284.39 bye, Mats Björklund broke, Krister Johansson 5.826/409.05, Peter Schöfer 5.591/409.62, Rob Turner 5.608/408.63, Dave Wilson 5.459/418.43

A very straight and clean pass from Yngve. Mats' burnout was very short and then the car sat forlornly out in the right lane, his crew rushed to push him to the side of the track so that Timo could take the bye. Timo's dragster pulled up the front wheels off the line and Timo looked to be on a very good run before backing off at about a thousand feet. A lot of throttle stop on Krister's car in the burnout, the tyres not lighting, but it didn't harm his run; very hard clean runs from both racers, Peter taking the #1 spot at that point. Rob and Dave had a superb match-up, no sign of shake for either car, a new track record ET for Grumpy as well as #1 spot.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Dave Wilson 5.459/418.43
  2. Peter Schöfer 5.591/409.62

Gary Page 8.851/153.10, Micke Kågered 6.142/237.94

A re-run for Gary and Micke after the earlier start line problems. Both cars left very cleanly but Gary hit shake and got off the throttle. Micke's car hooked up and went, the chassis starting to arch when the blower belt broke.

13:30 FIA Top Methanol Funny Car qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Kjell Sjöblom 7.008/314.31 bye, Martin Lundqvist 6.231/373.65, Jürgen Nagel 6.600/320.69, Jarmo Kuutniemi 6.086/382.23, Jonas Staflund 6.859/218.63, Arvid Grødem shut off, Ulf Leanders 9.678/161.02, Niclas Andersson 13.370/94.72, Leif Andréasson 7.862/177.14, Dan Larsen 5.903/392.08, Urs Erbacher 5.877/391.48

Leif and Johnny Helander are helping Kjell this weekend, a very competent run to open his account. Martin left as the light ran, but luckily after the starter had hit the button, and Jürgen left when he heard Martin leave. Nice passes from both racers, Martin taking #1 spot at that point. Jonas left Jarmo for dead on the line in their match-up and was on a very strong pass until there was suddenly a flash of flame, a bang, and the pressure relief panel flew into the air. Jarmo overhauled Jonas with very strong and straight pass to move into #1 spot at that point, unfortunately he also went into the sand trap at the end of the shutdown area. Jarmo is quite OK, though. Ulf pulled a 300-foot burnout before his match-up with Arvid, Arvid was sidelined after his burnout but as yet no word why. Ulf took the single and hit bad shake at eighty feet, leaving huge caterpillar tracks, he got off the throttle and rolled through. Leif tried to drive through very bad shake but eventually got off the throttle, Niclas was off the throttle at about a hundred feet. A pair of very impressive runs from Dan and Urs, very little sign of shake and right down the middle of their lanes.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Urs Erbacher 5.877/391.48
  2. Dan Larsen 5.903/392.08
  3. Jarmo Kuutniemi 6.086/382.23

12:55 FIM/UEM Top Fuel Bike qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Håkan Edvall 17.065/142.15 bye, Per Wern 20.217/46.52, Tommy Jonsson 10.544/186.36, Mikael Andersson 8.194/258.27, Nils Ole Lund 7.595/268.14, Eric Teboul no time, Shaun Branch no time, Sverre Dahl 6.849/357.53, Peter Andersson Ström 7.259/259.09, Roel Koedam 6.856/261.35, Ian King 6.929/252.34

Håkan's bike hesitated off the line and he cruised up the track. Per shut off at about a hundred feet and idled through. Nils Ole's run looked quicker than it was, but it put him in #1 spot at that point. Eric's bike threw out a lot of unburnt fuel at the hit - maybe a broken belt - whilst Shaun's bike also cut out at the same point and both sidelined their bikes. A very short burnout from Sverre but a nice straigth pass although all eyes were on Peter as his bike tried to throw him off and he had his hands full keeping it upright and straight. A calm feather of the throttle and Peter was on his way. Roel and Ian both seemed surprised when the lights ran, Ian eventually getting away first, both racers running hard and straight but getting off the throttle before three quarter track to take two and three spots.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Sverre Dahl 6.849/357.53

12:35 FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Susanne Callin shut off (bye), Monica Öberg 5.621/392.24, Jöran Persåker 9.838/137.57, Gary Page shut off, Micke Kågered shut off, Tommy Möller 4.845/453.64, Thomas Nataas 8.432/167.90, Andy Carter 5.060/478.11, Lex Joon 5.769/260.90

Susanne's car in Persåker's Speed Shop colours, Susanne replacing Chris Andrews as driver of this car at this event. A nice burnout and then Susanne was shut off on the line as she had no arm restraints. Great to see the legendary Monica back here at Mantorp Park. Nice burnouts by both cars then on the green Jöran was away first 0.193 to 0.354, very similar sixty foot times of 0.885 to 0.883 then both cars' rear tyres went up in smoke. Both Monica and Jöran stayed with it as long as they dared, Jöran disappeared in a cloud of smoke but he got off the throttle before half track, Monica pedalled and stayed on the throttle almost to the stripe.

We had the full CBD Brains Trust on the line for the next one, Bill Schultz watching over Gary and Alan Jackson watching over Micke. Both cars pulled forward, Micke went into pre-stage and Gary appeared to roll through but actually neither his pre-stage nor stage lights lit and he was signalled back. Gary quickly reversed and pulled forward again but again the lights did not light. Micke was gesturing frantically from his car as Chief Starter Ian Marshall signalled him that he was on a single, Micke rolled forward and his stage light didn't light. Ian then told both drivers to shut off, both jumped out of their cars and you didn't need to be an expert in body language to tell that both were very upset, Gary favouring the quick-release method of taking off his safety kit whilst Micke's eyes were blazing through his helmet visor. Within a few minutes, though, Micke was in race control talking on the PA and looked and sounded perfectly calm.

A great match-up between Tommy and Thomas, Tommy having run 5.09 on Press Day promised much and he delivered, wheels up off the line, straight as you like, no sign of shake. Thomas was on a good one to about 200 feet when he shut off although nothing was visibly wrong. Numbers one and two in the Championship then closed this session, Andy pulled a 0.140 red light although it doesn't matter in qualifying, a very strong pass for Andy, Lex pulled a nice wheelie off the line and was on a very hard pass until the car made a move just past helf track - the sort of twitch which normally accompanies a broken blower belt although there was no sign of it - and there was a brief flash of flame and smoke.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Tommy Möller 4.845/453.64
  2. Andy Carter 5.060/478.11
  3. Monica Öberg 5.621/392.24
  4. Lex Joon 5.769/260.90
  5. Thomas Nataas 8.432/167.90

12:05 NDRS Bilsport Pro Modified qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Urban Johansson 7.614/214.67 bye, Jan Arve Nygård 10.820/106.86, Patrik Pers 6.702/344.43, Lars Olsson 7.250/301.77, Bruno Bader 7.466/250.64, Torsten Kath 15.600/78.91, Terje Hakonsen 6.798/342.57, Lars Inge Johansson 10.149/141.10, Marc Meihuizen 6.701/340.76, Robert Koper no time, Seppo Saapola 6.797/316.65, Marko Lantto 7.295/308.73, Gordon Appleton 6.510/351.01, Christer Jacobs 6.674/325.62, Bert-Ove Olofsson 9.035/161.47, Kent Trenneman 6.658/340.52, Micke Lindahl 6.420/348.70, Andy Robinson 6.363/359.78, Norbert Kuno 6.779/341.67, Håkan Nilsson 6.454/340.62, Jörgen Karlsson 6.571/343.99, Mats Eriksson 7.109/260.27, Freddy Fagerström 6.575/350.36, Håkan Fällström 7.790/182.93, Micke Gullquist 6.451/342.31, Roger Johansson 7.730/231.96, Patrick Wikström 6.485/349.70

This is our first look at Urban's 'Vette and a very nice piece of kit it is. Urban took it quite easy on the burnout, then on the green the car rolled for a couple of metres and then Urban hit it, off the throttle at half track but a very good-looking pass up to that point. Another pair of 'Vette's in the next match-up, Jan Arve on nitrous and Patrick on blown-alcohol - Patrik's car has the names Juha and Sari on the side with a heart between them, I wonder what the story is behind that. On the green Jan Arve was off and running but started to go out of shape and Jan Arve got off the gas, whilst Patrik went straight and clean to take #1 spot at that point. Bruno made his first competitive outing in Pro Mod, pedalling briefly off the line and then getting off the throttle at about three-quarter track whilst Lars stayed on it to the stripe, the first time I have seen Lars in the silver Pontiac. The first competitive outing, too, for Tosten's new car and it looks just great! Torsten hit vicious shake at about righty feet and got off the throttle whilst Terje put in a very nice, straight pass into second place at that point.

Marc took #1 spot at that time with his pass, his engine builder is in attendance from the USA this weekend and I guess he just earned his plane ticket! Lars Inge was off the throttle at about 300 feet. Robert had a big nitrous burp off the line, Seppo went straight and true, 1.066 to sixty feet, the engine revs shot up as he crossed the finish line. Gordon is without his Crew Chief Adrian for reasons you can read in the pit notes. 1.056 to sixty feet for Gordon, the front left wheel was off the deck for a very long way and the car just kept on going and into #1 spot at that time. A very strong pass from Christer, staying with it as the front left wheel came up and the car headed for the centre line, calmy staying with it and steering it back to the midle of the lane for #2 spot at that time, Bert-Ove was off the throttle at about half track.

A very photogenic pairing between Kent and Micke, on the green Micke was away first and you could tell the car was on a good one, into #1 spot at that point, Sharkman at trackside said that Micke was late on the chutes. A tremendous pass from Kent, too, into #3 spot at that point and we think a PB. Andy drove through tyre shake at the top of first gear, from here you could see the rear wing vibrating, a new PB for Andy and #1 spot at that point, Norbert got away first and his run was very tidy but Andy's run put him in the shade a little. A great match-up between Håkan N and Jörgen, Håkan's strong first eighth very noticeable. Freddy drove through shake and the car appeared to bit a bump and bottom out just past half track but he stayed with it, no sign of the shake which has plagued Mats but off the throttle early - maybe a checkout pass. Micke drove through a little shake whilst Håkan F threw his blower belt at half track. Roger hit shake and was off the throttle early whilst Patrick put in a strong and straight pass.

Qualifying standings after this session:

11:25 FIM/UEM Supertwin qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Per Bengtsson 9.383/180.04 bye, Torbjörn Svensson 8.207/268.23, Greger Johansson 9.470/158.29, Anders Karling 6.703/317.56, Petri Kaltonen no time, Gunther Sohn 9.159/214.83, Tomas Sulek 10.166/221.63, Lorenz Stauble 6.947/286.80, Hans-Christian Nilsen 9.128/273.45, Svein Gottenberg 7.009/312.80, Joachim Riemer 6.856/321.61, Ton Pels 6.737/317.03, Hans Olav Olstad 8.776/183.93, Ronny Aasen 6.805/321.95, Svein Olav Rolfstad 7.222/232.63

Per opened his 2005 account, the bike seemed to be labouring as soon as it left the line, the forward motion not matching the engine note. Greger Johansson started to drift to the right as soon as he left the start line, eventually he had to get off the throttle and pull away from the guardrail. A superb run from Anders to open his 2005 Championship account, straight into #1 at that point and as ever riding on a cushion of nitro flames even in daylight. Petri lost a drive belt and stopped before the finish line. Gunther headed for the centre line and feathered the throttle, pulled it straight and then got back on it but then shut off before the line. Thomas' bike seemed to struggle a little off the start line. A tremendous run from Lorenz, into the sixes again and let's not forget this is only his third race on this bike. Hans-Christian's rear tyre went up in smoke off the line and he stayed with it for a long time before the slick bit and he was off and running. Svein's team were delighted with his straight, hard pass whilst Joachim's team must have been absolutely ecstatic with his six which put him intp #2 spot at that point. Word came back from the top end that Joachim's bike went into the sandtrap, Joachim is OK. Ton put in a tremendous, straight pass to take #2 at that time, Hans Olav shut off early, no visible problem. Ronny Aasen's front wheel didn't come down until almost the eighth, from here it sounded as if both Ronnt and Svein Olav were off the throttle before the finish line.

Qualifying standings after this session:

  1. Anders Karling 6.703/317.56
  2. Ton Pels 6.737/317.03

11:00 FIA Pro Stock qualifying session 1 (left lane first):

Peter Emilsson 7.208/309.42 bye, Jöran Persåker 7.226/306.66, Jan Murén 7.062/317.14, Rickard Sundblom 7.128/307.89, Magnus Hansson 6.984/318.66, Ulf Jonsson 7.241/307.97, Michael Malmgren 7.070/316.22, Jackie Hansen 7.146/313.69, Jimmy Ålund 6.962/320.29

A nice straight run for Peter opened his 2005 account. Jan pulled a long burnout before his match-up with Jöran, and then put in a nice straight pass which took the lead at that point whilst Jöran went the long way round with some smoke from the car over the first 200 feet or so. Magnus pulled a 0.016 reaction time and ran a very nice pass, into the sixes on the new car's first run at Mantorp and taking the lead from Jan, Rickard's run also straight and clean. Ulf was away first 0.079 to 0.207 in his pairing with Michael, not that it matters in qualifying, Michael overhauled him to move into third. One and two in the Championship then matched up for the final passes of this session, Jimmy away first and stamping his authority.

Magnus took it easy on his bye. Solid runs from Anders and new name to us Orjan, both putting down markers. A nice match-up between Chris and Anders A, similar reactions and close at the top end. Roger ran away from Martin in their match-up and took #1 spot by a fair way.

8:00

Good morning and welcome again from Mantorp Park for day two of the Veidec Festival. It's overcast but very mild and we're all set to start at 8:30.

The webcam is on-line and broadcasting a picture every two minutes, you can view it via the event index page. You might have noticed that the camera is not in an ideal position for a view of the start line and track but the proximity of race control to the track limits our scope some and we have done the best we can given that we have one or two other things to do too.

We're due to start with Sportsman qualifying and then today's two Pro sessions are scheduled for 10:30 and 14:25 (readers in England please bear in mind we are on European time).

Stay tuned and as soon as qualifying starts we'll bring you all the news and word from the pits.
