17:10 NDRS Bilsport Pro Modified qualifying session 2

Left lane first: Stefan Petterson 7.908/236.02, Gordon Appleton 7.288/329.71, Henri Joosten 6.942/326.80, Håkan Fällström 6.699/334.22, Christer Jacobs 8.062/204.38, Patrick Wikström ntr/319.83, Ulf Rapp 13.606/101.01 bye, Micke Lindahl 6.426/349.66, Seppo Saapola 7.656/317.16, Torsten Kath 8.617/162.89 bye, Urban Johansson 8.720/174.80 bye, Sverre Kahrs 9.596/155.20, Mats Eriksson 6.642/351.89, Tomi Pöntinen 6.684/335.67 bye, Norbert Kuno 6.933/336.43 bye, Freddy Fagerström did not start, Roger Johansson 6.537/350.56, Micke Gullquist 6.616/344.93, Håkan Nilsson 6.452/347.67, Andy Robinson broke

Gordon Appleton pulled a huge holeshot over Stefan Peterson in their qualifying match-up (not that it matters in qualifying), Gordon pedalled briefly with the front left wheel high in the air. Stefan on his first pass in the new car took it gently. Henri Joosten and Håkan Fällström both got into the field with their first passes of the weekend, Håkan's pass partuclarly was hard and straight. Christer Jacobs hit shake again but moved up the standings whilst Patrick Wikström was on a real hard pass but his ET came up as 0.668 seconds. Same again as the last run for Ulf Rapp on his bye, the car leapt in the air and every time he hit the throttle it jumped again. Micke Lindahl found the magic ingredient on his pass, setting a new track ET record and taking #1 qualifier, well done Micke! Seppo Saapola improved slightly. Torsten Kath took a bucking bronco ride, the car banging up on the wheelie bars off the line and then again at the change to second gear, Torsten got off the gas at that point. Urban Johansson left the line very gently and we didn't hear any gear changes, he was off the throttle at half track. Mats Eriksson drove through early shake to set a new track speed record, well done Mats! Tomi Pöntinen moved a couple of places up the standings with a nice straight pass. Norbert Kuno took a bye after Freddy Fagerström's crew could not get the pick-up's engine started, the car started to move around a little at the first gear change and Norbert brefly pedalled. Roger Johansson improved slightly but this run was not in the groove and Roger didn't lift, there is more to come there. An improvement for Micke Gullquist too. Håkan Nilsson improved slightly, a consistent pass, whilst Andy Robinson suffered a big nitrous burp off the line.

The qualifying standings after this round are as follow:

  1. Micke Lindahl 6.426/349.66
  2. Håkan Nilsson 6.452/347.67
  3. Roger Johansson 6.537/350.56
  4. Andy Robinson 6.613/341.97

  6. Mats Eriksson 6.642/351.89
  7. Tomi Pöntinen 6.684/335.67
  8. Freddy Fagerström 6.698/345.10
  9. Håkan Fällström 6.699/334.22
  10. Norbert Kuno 6.801/344.45

  23. Ulf Rapp 11.677/137.20

16:30 FIM/UEM Supertwin qualifying session 2

Left lane first: Cato Waale 10.185/239.93, Kjell Andersson 12.732/150.59, Per Olov Berglund 12.752/105.56, Joakim Riemer 8.337/224.77, Jaska Salakari 12.901/97.20, Ronny Aasen 7.337/322.37, Stefan Junerud 7.723/249.17, Greger Johansson 8.543/267.01, Hans Olav Olstad 7.369/321.35, Ton Pels 6.868/326.92, Svein Olav Rolfstad 7.095/312.19, Hans Christian Nils 7.555/282.14, Trond Alm 7.964/230.78, Anders Karling 7.071/272.34

A new name to your reporter, Cato Waale put in his first pass of the weekend. He seemed to have a problem staging, the pre-stage went out before the stage went on, and then the red lit. Kjell Andersson and Per Olov Berglund both headed for their respective guardrails and got off the throttle at more or less the same time. First runs out this weekend for Joakim Riemer and Jaska Salakari, Joakim headed for the centre line and got off the throttle and Jaska Salakari's bike started to throw clutch parts all over his lane including some quite sizeable pieces. Jaska is A-OK. Ronny Aasen rode through a fearsome wobble to improve his placing dramatically, a clean run with no obvious problems for Stefan Junerud does the same for him. Greger Johansson and Hans Olav Olstad both moved up the standings with their runs. Ton Pels' run was as straight and clean as you like, Svein Olav Rolfstad rode through a wobble, appearing to have trouble finding his footpegs as well. Hans Christian Nils briefly feathered the throttle on his much improved pass which moved him one spot up the placings. Anders Karling went straight down the middle of his lane but got off the throttle early, whilst Trond Alm headed for the centreline and briefly feathered the throttle.

The qualifying standings after this round are as follow:

  1. Ton Pels 6.868/326.92
  2. Anders Karling 7.071/272.34
  3. Svein Olav Rolfstad 7.095/312.19
  4. Ronny Aasen 7.337/322.37
  5. Hans Olav Olstad 7.369/321.35
  6. Stefan Junerud 7.723/249.17
  7. Fredrik Solheim 7.402/299.95
  8. Hans-Christian Nils 7.555/282.14
  9. Trond Alm 7.778/227.11
  10. Joakim Riemer 8.337/224.77
  11. Greger Johansson 8.543/267.01
  12. Cato Waale 10.185/239.93
  13. Kjell Andersson 12.732/150.59
  14. Per-Olov Berglund 12.752/105.56
  15. Jaska Salakari 12.901/97.20

16:00 FIA Top Methanol Funny Car qualifying session 2

Left lane first: Dan Larsen 6.195/378.27 bye, Jörgen Johnsson 6.025/388.26, Arvid Grødem 6.134/381.81, Urs Erbacher 5.871/399.92, Niclas Andersson 5.908/391.27, Leif Andréasson 6.003/395.99

Dan Larsen hit tyre shake, pedalled once, got out of the groove but stayed with it, a huge cloud of dust witnessed how close he got to the guardrail but he stayed with it. Jörgen Johnsson left just before the green and then it was almost a carbon copy of Dan's run, only not quite so close to the guardrail. Arvid Grødem laid down a baseline for tomorrow. A consistent run from Urs Erbacher keeps him at #1 and an improvement for Niclas Andersson although he stays where he is in the standings. We were not sure that we would see Leif Andréasson in this session but the Kamasa team fitted the spare transmission and Leif put down a good marker.

The qualifying standings after this round are as follow:

  1. Urs Erbacher 5.831/401.74
  2. Ulf Leanders 5.862/393.43
  3. Niclas Andersson 5.908/391.27
  4. Leif Andréasson 6.003/395.99
  5. Jörgen Johnsson 6.025/388.26
  6. Arvid Grødem 6.134/381.81
  7. Dan Larsen 6.195/378.27

15:30 FIA Top Fuel Dragster qualifying session 1

Left lane first: Monica Öberg 7.828/165.84, Lex Joon 5.255/360.07, Smax Smith 5.232/440.49, Thomas Nataas 5.820/251.16, Micke Kågered 7.457/175.65, Jöran Persåker 5.285/441.10, Tommy Möller 5.164/421.86, Andy Carter 6.248/223.89

Monica Öberg marked her return to FIA Top Fuel with a very hard launch but then the dragster's tyres went up in smoke, and did they smoke! The smoke obscured the track and after that point we couldn't see Lex in the other lane, he drove through some shake and when last seen he was heading up the track very strongly, judging by the terminal speed he was off the throttle a little early. Smax Smith and Thomas Nataas were initially side-by-side but Thomas was off it by about three quarter track, Smax looked to be on the throttle all the way and there was a yellow nitro could as he crossed the finish line. Micke Kågered's tyres went up in smoke at about 300 feet, he pedalled, the tyres went up in smoke again and the car threw its blower belt. Meanwhile Jöran was on a very strong pass, there was a little haze towards the end and a flash of flame right on the finish line. Tommy Möller's first pass with his new Danish half of the crew and new set-up got him #1 qualifier, a strong straight pass, Andy Carter in the other lane had no obvious problem but was off the throttle at half track. Andy later called in to let us know that the blower belt came off the GoTalk car but it stayed within the engine compartment.

The qualifying standings after this round are as follow:

  1. Tommy Möller 5.164/421.86
  2. Smax Smith 5.232/440.49
  3. Lex Joon 5.255/360.07
  4. Jöran Persåker 5.285/441.10
  5. Thomas Nataas 5.820/251.16
  6. Andy Carter 6.248/223.89
  7. Micke Kågered 7.457/175.65
  8. Monica Öberg 7.828/165.84

15:05 FIM/UEM Top Fuel Bike qualifying session 2

Left lane first: Jon Leret 6.712/331.00, Robert Karlsson 9.993/150.66, Sverre Dahl 13.175/100.41 bye, Joey Bon shut off, Viep Bloemen broke, Martyn de Haas 8.949/244.63, Mikael Andersson 8.619/259.55, Roel Koedam 6.374/316.09, Shaun Branch 8.798/252.63, Peter Andersson Ström broke, Antonio Ferretti 7.832/301.04, Tommy Jonsson 8.404/244.90

Jon Leret goes into the sixes and there is more left since the bike was quite gentle off the line. No visible problem for Robert Karlsson although he lost a second from his previous pass. Sverre Dahl's rear slick went straight up in smoke off the line, Sverre feathered the throttle and then got hard back on it and three belts and bits of the chain came off the bike as it bucked all over the place. Joey Bon lost fire before he made it to the bleach box in his match-up against Viep Bloemen, Viep didn't burn out before his pass and then the bike shut itself off on the line. Mikael Andersson improved but not enough to change his placing. Roel Koedam's run was straight and true, the run we all knew was coming, whilst Shaun Branch hit shake and the bike was weaving some. Peter Andersson Ström's bike broke its primary belt off the line, Antonio Ferretti's bike hesitated a couple of times on its way down the track. Tommy Jonsson's first pass of the weekend put him into the field so far.

The qualifying standings after this round are as follow:

  1. Roel Koedam 6.374/316.09
  2. Jon Leret 6.712/331.00
  3. Eric Teboul 7.140/237.13
  4. Antonio Ferretti 7.507/303.04
  5. Peter Andersson Ström 7.613/285.64
  6. Shaun Branch 7.811/281.69
  7. Mikael Andersson 8.195/240.42
  8. Tommy Jonsson 8.404/244.90
  9. Robert Karlsson 8.543/259.19
  10. Tommy Jonsson 8.569/244.60
  11. Martyn de Haas 8.949/244.63
  12. Sverre Dahl 13.175/100.41
  13. Viep Bloemen 14.406/185.41
  14. Joey Bon 15.337/102.48

14:45 FIA Top Methanol Dragster qualifying session 2

Left lane first: Arto Höylä 9.508/138.15 bye, Rob Turner 5.909/378.03, Krister Johansson 6.227/264.61, Dave Wilson 5.509/412.11, Peter Schöfer 5.631/393.81

Arto Höylä hit shake at about a hundred feet on his bye, Sharkman said it looked pretty violent as Arto came past him at two hundred feet or so. Krister Johansson's dragster sounded very smooth (as smooth as a nitro car can sound) in the burnout, on the pass vapour started to appear from the headers just past half-track and Krister got off the throttle. Rob Turner drove through tyre shake and stayed on the throttle to move up the qualifying standings. Dave Wilson got a huge jump on Peter Schöfer, consolidating his #1 spot, Peter appeared to back off slightly early although improving his ET.

The qualifying standings after this round are as follow:

  1. Dave Wilson 5.509/412.11
  2. Peter Schöfer 5.631/393.81
  3. Rob Turner 5.909/378.03
  4. Krister Johansson 5.997/306.54
  5. Arto Höylä 9.508/138.15

14:15 FIA Pro Stock qualifying session 2

Left lane first: Ulf Jonsson 7.175/299.57, Tommy Leindahl 7.260/308.05, Magnus Hansson 7.479/297.36, Peter Emilsson 7.163/311.71, Kenneth Soderström 7.422/257.04, Jackie Hansen 7.189/312.73, Eero Knihtilä 7.062/316.60, Jöran Persåker 7.173/310.52, Jimmy Ålund 6.953/320.05, Michael Malmgren 7.033/320.57

A new personal best for Ulf Jonsson made his crew very happy, and a big improvement for Tommy Leindahl. Magnus Hansson improved from his previous pass but this still isn't his best form, whilst Peter Emilsson stepped right up showing this car's form and his own ability. Kenneth Soderström got off the throttle early in his match-up with Jackie Hansen, Jackie improved and moved a few places up the field - it is really bunching now. Eero Knihtilä stepped up to take second place from Michael Malmgren at that point whilst Jöran Persåker put in a very consistent pass. A great burnout from Jimmy Ålund before his match-up with Michael Malmgren, easily a hundred feet, before backing up his new European speed record, well done Jimmy! Sharkman at trackside reports that Jimmy was blackstriping the length of the track. Michael took his #2 spot back from Eero.

The qualifying standings after this round are as follow:

  1. Jimmy Ålund 6.920/321.07
  2. Michael Malmgren 7.033/320.57
  3. Eero Knihtilä 7.062/316.60

  6. Ulf Jonsson 7.175/299.57
  7. Jackie Hansen 7.189/312.73
  8. Kenneth Soderström 7.191/307.39
  9. Tommy Leindahl 7.260/308.05
  10. Magnus Hansson 7.479/297.36

13:50 FIM/UEM Pro Stock Bike qualifying session 2

Left lane first: Remo Nasci 8.060/256.29 bye, Helen Curran 7.730/272.29 bye, Vesa Rautio 7.518/280.34, Herman van Driel 7.852/255.95, Anders Larsson 7.554/284.21, Chris Hope broke, Roger Pettersson 7.348/296.11, Anders Abrahamson 7.925/275.25, Michal Ponca 9.401/217.06, Bo Thorselius 9.531/237.37

More luck for Remo Nasci this time, into the field. Helen Curran's first run of the weekend puts her well within the field for Sunday, a fine pass with no apparent problems. A good improvement for Vesa Rautio and a big step up for Herman van Driel. Anders Larsson improved whilst Chris Hope broke off the line. Roger Pettersson backed up his earlier 297.40 for a new European speed record, congratulations Roger! Michal Ponca improved whilst Bo Thorselius put in his first run of the weekend.

  1. Roger Pettersson 7.343/297.40
  2. Vesa Rautio 7.518/280.34
  3. Anders Larsson 7.554/284.21

  6. Herman van Driel 7.852/255.95
  7. Remo Nasci 8.060/256.29
  8. Chris Hope 8.456/187.56
  9. Michal Ponca 9.401/217.06
  10. Bo Thorselius 9.531/237.37

  2. Håkan Mattson 9.902/241.24
  3. Harry Forsten 9.905/253.37
  4. Morten Tiainen 9.909/243.53
  5. David Vegter 9.912/224.64

13:25 FIA Top Methanol Funny Car qualifying session 1

Left lane first: Jörgen Johnsson 6.841/327.59 bye, Arvid Grødem no time, Ulf Leanders 5.862/393.43, Leif Andréasson broke, Dan Larsen 7.492/201.49, Niclas Andersson 5.950/387.03, Urs Erbacher 5.831/401.74

Jörgen Johnsson was nominally on a test pass, the car jumped up on its rear wheels, Jörgen pedalled briefly as the tyres smoked and then stayed on the throttle all the way down. Ulf Leanders pulled the briefest of burnouts before his match-up with Arvid Grødem whilst Arvid pulled a two hundred foot burnout. On the green there were no problems for Ulf Leanders, a very strong run, whilst Arvid hit shake and was dropping large pieces of rubber on the track, he was quickly off the throttle and didn't get a time. There was a bang from Leif Andréasson's FC at the hit, problems with the gearbox is the theory, whilst Dan Larsen was on a strong pass until his FC threw a blower belt at half track. Niclas Andersson and Urs Erbacher had a great side-by-side qualifying match-up, anyone would have thought it was a race, Urs took #1 spot and set a new track speed record.

The qualifying standings after this round are as follow:

  1. Urs Erbacher 5.831/401.74
  2. Ulf Leanders 5.862/393.43
  3. Niclas Andersson 5.950/387.03
  4. Jörgen Johnsson 6.841/327.59
  5. Dan Larsen 7.492/201.49

13:10 NDRS Bilsport Pro Modified qualifying session 1

Left lane first: Seppo Saapola 7.993/204.17, Torsten Kath 6.968/317.98, Ulf Rapp 11.677/137.20, Stefan Pettersson broke, Terje Hakonsen 8.086/193.10, Urban Johansson 6.928/327.86, Gordon Appleton broke, Christer Jacobs 16.471/74.84, Arnie Lindkvist 8.109/292.72, Sverre Kahrs 6.856/319.10, Andy Robinson 6.613/341.97, Robert Koper 7.669/278.58, Norbert Kuno 6.801/344.45, Tomi Pöntinen 6.714/333.51, Marc Meihuizen 7.096/312.58 bye, Henri Joosten did not start, Micke Gullquist 6.656/340.90, Micke Lindahl 7.323/324.60, Håkan Fallström shut off, Freddy Fagerström 6.698/345.10, Mats Eriksson 7.361/324.45, Roger Johansson 6.539/348.70, Patrick Wikström no time, Håkan Nilsson 6.492/335.82

Torsten Kath runs a new PB, his first six. Seppo Saapola sat on the line for another second and the car didn't sound to be on full throttle during the run. Ulf Rapp's car jumped in the air on the hit, I would swear that all for wheels were off just for a moment and then the rear tyres started to smoke as they came down. Ulf got back on the throttle but got into a wobble at half-track and got off it. Meanwhile Stefan Pettersson in what we understand is his first run out in this car shut off in stage. Terje Hakonsen was rolling as the lights ran but not enough to light the red, he was off the throttle at half track and left something on the surface. Urban Johansson's run looked A-OK. Gordon Appleton started his burnout but then his engine stopped abruptly and he was pushed back, Christer Jacobs hit vicious tyre shake off the line when he took the bye. Arnie Lindkvist pulled a classic huge Pro Mod all-over-the-shop burnout before his match-up with Sverre Kahrs, then his blower pitched its belt at the top end and the call came down to the start line that we had oil right up the middle of the lane.

Andy Robinson and Robert Koper were the first pairing after the cleanup and Andy put in a great, straight pass in the cleaned lane, no sign of shake, we think a personal best speed or very close indeed. A great match-up between Norbert Kuno and Tomi Pöntinen, with a huge speed, we think a PB speed, from Norbert. There was a lot of activity around Henri Joosten's car before his match-up with Marc Meihuizen, eventually the crew told the start line officials to send Marc out on his own. Marc took the long way round, using most of his lane, pedalling briefly after the car went out of bounds off the start line. A great run from Micke Gullquist put him into second at that point, that was with a pedal off the start line, whilst Micke Lindahl hit shake off the line but pedalled and then got back on it. Freddy Fagerström pulled a four hundred foot burnout before his match-up with Håkan Fallström, backing up very quickly as well whilst Hårkan Fallström shut off on the line after taking a long while to back up. Freddy ran a huge top end speed and Sharkman at trackside reports that his door was open again! Roger Johansson took the number one spot from Andy Robinson in his match-up with Mats Eriksson, a tremendous straight pass whilst Mats hit bad shake off the line and the car took a hard turn to the right. Patrick Wikström pulled a five hundred foot burnout before his run but then shut off after a couple of hundred feet whilst Håkan Nilsson disappeared into the distance to take #1 from Roger.

The qualifying standings after this round are as follow:

  1. Håkan Nilsson 6.492/335.82

Fredrik Solheim pulled a tremendous reaction time of 0.066, a very nice pass indeed. Erik Nielsen broke off the line, Trond Alm was on a very good pass but started to drift right, towards the guardrail, so he got off the throttle before the finish line. Per-Olov Berglund headed for the guardrail off the start line and was almost immediately got off the throttle. Svein Olav Rolfstad had a wild ride, the bike leaving the line with the front wheel in the air and heading for the half-track reflectors, Svein Olav stayed with it as long as he dared then put it down and the bike immediately tried to pitch him off, the exhaust sparking on the track surface as Svein Olav held onto it. Per Bengtsson's engine stopped after a nice burnout. Stefan Junerud and Svein Gottenberg pulled a great paired burnout before their match-up, Stefan on a solid pass until he got into a tankslapper at half track, the bike fishtailing wildly, and he got off the throttle. Svein Gottenberg's bike broke off the line. Charley Karling put in a picture-perfect pass, whilst Ton Pels sat on the line for a couple of seconds before leaving, no obvious problem. Hans Olav rode through shake and was off the throttle a little early whilst Ronny Aasen's motor cut and made ominous metallic noises. Greger Johansson got crossed-up off the start line and got off the throttle.

Rob Turner was planning a checkout pass on the new motor, nice burnouts by both cars and then Rob shut off at the top gear as planned. Krister Johansson put in a great pass in his injected-nitro rail, the tyres hazing towards the top end and he was off the throttle a touch early. Krister also set off the weekend's first car alarm. Dave Wilson pulled a hundred-foot burnout before his match-up with Peter Schöfer, was away first and never looked back. Peter's run looked fine, a good baseline.

A couple of Funny Bikes putting in solid passes to start the session, then a bizarre match between Viep Bloemen and Martyn de Haas, Viep's bike died off the line whilst Martyn charged into the distance, Viep's engine lit again and he shot up the track. Shaun Branch had wicked shake off the line, the bike was really bucking, but he stayed with it whilst Peter Andersson Ström looked to be on a good pass before getting off just after half track. Eric Teboul went close to the guardrail and got off the throttle whilst in the right hand lane Jon Leret did exactly the same thing only with a much worse wobble. Antonio Ferretti got into a wobble not far off the line, the bike really fishtailing, but Antonio calmly feathered the throttle and got it straight. Joey Bon gave us a look at the very nice new MPM Oil bike, his first proper run out on the track, a squirt to sixty feet and then idled along the track. Roel Koedam's bike didn't sound right, hesitating off the line and then Roek was off the throttle at half-track.

The qualifying standings after this round are as follow:

  1. Eric Teboul 7.140/237.13
  2. Antonio Ferretti 7.507/303.04

Peter Emilsson was on a very good-looking pass in Jan Murén's car until he got seriously out of shape at half track and got off the throttle, Ulf Jonsson shut off on the line. Jöran Persåker has Jari Konola helping him this weekend, both Jörån and Kenneth Soderström had great-looking straight passes. Tommy Leindahl hit wicked tyre shake off the line and headed for the Tree whilst Eero had a solid, straight pass. Both Jackie Hansen and Magnus Hansson were off the throttle by half track. Michal Ponca had a bit of a wild ride to about three hundred feet, the bike heading for the centre line and getting into a wobble. A nice pairing between Anders Abrahamsson and Vesa Rautio, solid passes from both bikes and Vesa's problems so far this season looking to be leaving his pit. Remo Nasci broke off the line. Herman van Driel could not select third gear whilst Anders Larsson put down a solid baseline pass. Another nice match-up between Chris Hope and Roger Pettersson, the bikes together until Chris got out of the groove and drifted towards the wall, and he had to get off the throttle. New track records and the first half of a European speed record for Roger Pettersson on his first run this weekend!
